1st YC was correct.
ReplyDeleteNow maybe in 22'missed one for follow through tackle?
Letting the roughness. I like that
ReplyDeletei think not to give YC is correct, the tackle is clean on the ball tnen he touch the leg as collision.
ReplyDeleteFantastic first half IMO
ReplyDeleteVery good 1st half. Surprised there aren't more comments
ReplyDeleteAll 3 YC's were correct,all for SPA
ReplyDeleteIf this result stays, tougher match for Dias but low nimber of comments should suggests you how he's doin it.
Yes, a very good 1H, I'm really glad for Dias. Honestly, I would have preferred a YC for a follow through by AUT20 in 21', but apart from that, a really strong performance. And I'm sure there are many with the opposite opinion for the 21', so it's certainly not something terrible. I actually like his foul detection line, it's contributing to a really good game. Let's hope for the best in the 2H.
DeleteTwo sides who generally want to play. Allowed contact. YCs spot on. Not s difficult game but judging involvement well
ReplyDeleteThis is showing the inconsistency between referees ,Dias has let fouls go that have been yellow carded in previous last 16 encounters .This will probably mean this will be the end of his tournament
ReplyDeleteOutstanding officiating till the moment. A master class of selection from contacts in the borderline, that is excelent for the game
ReplyDeleteVery good officiating in the Round of 16.
ReplyDeleteOnly three VAR interventions, two in Germany - Denmark, one in Romania - Denmark. Committee can be satisfied, as for now.
These 8 games wee clear better than group stage.
Predictions 5 July:
ESP - GER Taylor
POR - FRA Marciniak
Today, Soares Dias had a normal difficulty game, but he was fully on focus, that's clear, by far better performance by him than the previous games.
4. One in England vs Slovakia
DeleteDias performed very well today. Almost flawless and creating a really good flow for the game. He can be very happy with his and his teams performance today.
DeleteESP-GER Taylor
ReplyDeletePOR-FRA Tello
ENG-SUI Siebert
TUR-NED Turpin
Marciniak, Vincic, Orsato for SFs and Final.
I don't see Vincic doing a SF without a previous KO game if I'm honest.
DeleteI never thought I would say this, but masterclass from Dias!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if the corner kick leading to Türkiye's second goal was right call but overall outstanding performance by Artur Soares Dias. Fully respected, contributed to the game flow with many play-on calls (along with Orsato he's a master of this) and one has to highlight great fitness of the Portuguese. I think the RefCom have no other option but to appoint him again!
ReplyDeleteWell, for what he has been sent he did. Extremlley good performance by Soares Dias in lets say harder game than it was expected. Excellent criteria, fitness, positioning, and control of player emotions. This will be the game that I will remember by plenty excellent no calls also. I strongly belive that he can be on pool of candidates for semifinal, but we will see.
ReplyDeleteAlso I would like to say that officiating in Round of 16 was outstanding. And, finaly, prediciton for Netherlands-Turkey, as I wrote today, Facundo Tello!
ReplyDeleteSpa Ger Taylor
ReplyDeleteFra Por Marciniak
Net Tur Turpin
Swi Eng Vincic
We can clearly see the impact of referees on good matches. Previous match Kovacs Now Dias..
ReplyDeleteThank you Dias....
You just have to admire those referees like Artur Dias who work extremely hard at making what is a difficult job seem so effortlessly easy. I salute him for his contribution in overseeing what was an excellent game of football, tonight.
ReplyDeleteFor me there are actually only five options for the next round: Taylor, Tello, Turpin, Vincic and Siebert, although with regard to Turpin, Taylor and Siebert it should be noted that the respective national teams are still in the competition.
ReplyDeleteSo if you left one of these three out in the quarter-finals, you might not be able to use them in the semi-finals because their national team is also in the semi-finals.
With Vincic and Tello you are much more flexible, but on the other hand I don't see either of them directly in the semi-finals. That's why I predict:
GER - ESP: Vincic
POR - FRA: Tello
ENG - SUI: Siebert
NED - TUR: Turpin
SF1: GER/ESP - POR/FRA: Marciniak
SF2: ENG/SUI - NED/TUR: Orsato
Final: Taylor
Should England qualify for the final, it would be very annoying for Taylor as he would be left without a knockout game then, although he certainly deserves one. Then for me Zwayer would be the candidate for the final. If that is not possible because England is playing against Germany in the final, then it will be much more difficult to appoint a suitable final referee.
NED-TUR may be for Kovacs IMO
ReplyDeleteGER - ESP: Taylor
ReplyDeletePOR - FRA: Vincic
ENG - SUI: Dias/Zwayer
NED - TUR: Tello
SF1: GER/ESP - POR/FRA: Marciniak
SF2: ENG/SUI - NED/TUR: Turpin/Dias
Final: Orsato
An excellent performance by Soares Dias for me, it was a real pleasure to watch his refereeing tonight.
ReplyDeleteHe chose a rather lenient line in foul detection, but it was perfect for this match IMO. Dias managed to maintain this line consistently throughout the match, with many nice play on calls (e. g. 39', 68', 88'), thus letting the game flow and contributing to a really entertaining piece of football. I don't remember any major mistake in this aspect. His match control was excellent, with clear body language and applying his usual distant, cool authority, which the players respected a lot. Along with some nice prevention skills, this enabled him to calm the game down in key moments, and this style was clearly accepted by the players (there was no actual challenge to his authority even from the most problematic individuals). It is especially worthy to mention some strong warnings before the last CK in 90+5', as a good example of high prevention skills applied in this match until the very end (no loss of concentration among the crew). To be honest, Dias sometimes reminds me of a walking diazepam with his calm and cool demeanor (said with all due respect), and I think this is exactly the style this game needed after the chaotic events of CZE – TUR.
A well chosen, balanced and, for the most part, consistently applied disciplinary line was one of the key aspects of match control tonight, along with the aforementioned body language and prevention. All 4 YCs issued were absolutely correct IMO: 11' (TUR6, SPA), 38' (AUT18, LoR), 42' (TUR16, SPA/tactical) and 52' (AUT15, tactical blocking in an SPA-like scenario). Dias managed to adeptly recognise the right fouls to caution (all but one, IMO), but also the right moments, and I'd argue those three YCs from the 1H cemented his control over the proceedings in the 2H, enabling him to manage most of the situations effectively and without cautions. There was a number of possible YCs as well, but I think only one was missed, for the follow through tackle by AUT20 in 21' (at least for my taste). Other instances present good no card decisions for me. To add, the very presentation of cards gave an impression of a referee sure about his decisions, confident and without self-doubt, which is another skill this game needed after CZE – TUR, IMO.
PAI situations were dealt with optimally IMO: 5' (no penalty for AUT, without a really significant contact on Baumgartner); 67' (no penalty for TUR, with Yildiz rather falling on his own); 84' (no penalty for AUT, Arnautović also fell without any significant contact). As for the CK decision before the 0-2 goal by TUR in 59', while I cannot be 100% sure about it being correct, at least from the available replays, I have a feeling Dias and AR1 managed to solve a tricky situation correctly.
Both ARs had some nice and correct onside/offside decisions (48', 53', 56',89'), with the offside in 89' by AR1 being an excellent spot in a tight situation.
Taking everything into consideration, as well as the excellent level of fitness shown by Dias tonight, it is well possible that Dias booked his ticket for one of the remaining QF or SF matches with this performance. He certainly finished an otherwise very good R16 from the refereeing perspective. A really positive performance by the whole team indeed.
@Dukat192
DeleteMany thanks for your very readable and informative analysis. Your level of detail is compelling!
(Sincerest apologies for my incorrectly naming Soares Dias in my comment above. I used the details provided in the list of officials at the top of this page.)
Thank you for your appreciation.
DeleteYou weren't wrong at all. IIRC, his full name is Artur Manuel Ribeiro Soares Dias. If I understand Portuguese customs correctly, the last three words should be the surname, formed by adding mother's family surname first and then the father's family surname. Therefore, for practicality, it should be fully OK to use just Artur Dias. Of course, if any Portuguese readers can correct me, it would be great.
What a brilliant performance by Soares Dias tonight!
ReplyDeleteFor the quarterfinals I go for
ESP-GER Taylor
FRA-POR Marciniak
ENG-SUI Guida
NED-TUR Turpin
Guida?!
DeletePrediction basic on performance + seniority
ReplyDeleteESP-GER : Marciniak FO: Tello
FRA-POR: Nyberg FO: Meler
ENG-SUI: Dias FO: Siebert
NET-TUR: Vincic FO: Turpin
Semi 1: Taylor
Semi 2: Letexier
Final: Orsato
I doubt that Marciniak will het such a big game involving germany.
DeletePredictions 5 July:
ReplyDeleteESP - GER Taylor
POR - FRA Marciniak
Netherlands vs Turkey could be that warzone game.
ReplyDeleteTwo teams with a high YC/RC average when things don’t go smooth.
IMO most of the R16 all over prediction was good with significant change of quality of refereeing compered to opening. Now as I have already said there will be Vincic and Taylor for GER-SPA and POR-FRA respectively. On the other hand there will be Turpin and Dias(replacement of Makkelie) for his excellent R16 match. Orsato's POR-SLO performance and Italy's absence almost make him final candidate. For SF Marciniak is a an automatic choice and other will be one of QF referee after performance.
ReplyDeleteYour predictions are IMO very good. I'd prefer Taylor for GER - ESP (like many others) and Vinčič for POR - FRA. Then ENG - SUI should go for Soares Dias (maybe he wasn't planned for quarterfinal but his performance in AUT - TUR is difficult to ignore) and for TUR - NED is Turpin safe bet for me. Absolutely agree with Marciniak for SF and Orsato for final (OK, his poor performance in SUI - GER is forgot and forgiven). And yes, we can't determine the referee for other SF without knowing which teams will be involved. Good candidates for me would be Vinčič, Oliver and maybe Turpin.
DeletePredictions:
ReplyDeleteESP - GER Taylor
POR - FRA Vincic
NED - TUR Nyberg
ENG - SUI Turpin
I think Marciniak will be saved for SF. I excpect the other SF spot will depend on teams advancing and performances, options Taylor, Turpin, Vincic, Letexier, Soares Dias.
Orsato for the final seems crystal clear
It makes sense Marciniak and Dias/ last night was brilliant/ To be reserved for the semi-finals. We assume that the finale is now clear for Orsato. But purely politically I guess one semi-final is reserved for Vincic. We will find out from this the nomination for the second game on Friday. However, a lot will also depend on who will continue.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is my prediction in a purely political aspect.
ReplyDeleteSpain – Germany: Taylor
France – Portugal: Marciniak
England - Switzerland: Turpen
Netherlands – Turkey: Tello
DeleteI don't know where you got the idea to predict Turpin for the quarter-finals or semi-finals, when he had by far the worst performance of this championship in the championship opener. He had to be sent home immediately after the Germany-Scotland game.
I think I wrote political appointments correctly. He should have, but he didn't and he led the next game decently.
DeleteI think the referees still possibile to be appointed for the final are:
ReplyDeleteTurpin, Orsato, Vincic, Zwayer and Taylor
Argumenting in a conspirative way:
1. Zwayer (if no Germany in the final), is the referee of the hosting nation.
2. Orsato is in his last competition and Italy is out.
3 . Vincic is a favorite UEFA referee and Slovenia is out.
4. Turpin ans Taylor are the less favorite but who knows ...
Soares Dias is out.
