Chefren,if we dont see Tello in quarterfinals, can that mean a possibility that he is retained for semis?
ReplyDeleteHe should be home, I don't understand why you insist on him after the Hungary - Scotland performance, to be honest...
DeleteWell, my opinion is that performance at Hungary-Scotland was better than Turpin Germany Scotland. Then,UEFA backed his decision to not call penalty. So,what do you think about referee at second semifinal, becouse its obvious that Vincic will have one.
DeleteThat'r right, but Tello is not like Turpin under the eyes of UEFA committee, for sure :) More in a detailed comment I'm about to write.
DeleteTello has been axed according to this UK report from a few days ago: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13579341/Argentinian-referee-Scotland-penalty-Hungary-Euro-2024-VAR-Steve-Clarke.html
DeleteWow,one more match and test for Orsato!? Turpin is there, what is ok appoitment. Only fact that we know now is that Vincic is saved for semifinal, we will se who will be another one. I count on Tello, but situation about him is a little bit unclear.
ReplyDeleteSorry - how is Vincic retained for a SF a fact?
DeleteI dont believe Orsato needs any test :) This is not test drive. He is good and Italy are out. Good appointment. Best of luck to him.
DeleteSurely Orsato is still recovering from extra time ;-)
ReplyDeleteBest comment here :-)
DeleteI was wondering the same
After today's appointments, I wouldn't be surprised if Vincic is appointed to the final.
ReplyDeleteThat would drive absurdity to a new level...
DeleteWhy? As someone said: "Always expect the unexpected"
DeleteRoberto Rosetti press conference prior to the KO stage: "Some refereeing teams did one match, some two; others will do three and, maybe some, four."
ReplyDeleteSo max 4 games. Then it is clear. Surprising, but this is Orsato's last game of his career. Let's see who will get the final. Either this or Rosetti blatanty lied to everyone. Strong words from me, but I assume them because we are witnessing a clear mess, as it was well said in yesterday post.
Zwayer as 4th for Turpin probably means he's done. Fair enough he had acceptable performances but nothing special from him so SF or even Final if Germany wouldn't qualify are not deserved in my opinion. Turpin getting the QF shows to me that RefCom doesn't care about too many OFR as long as
ReplyDeletea) The final decision is correct and
b) No one is talking about the referee after the game (which for GER - SCO was easy due to the scoreline)
Turpin assignment was expected. He wasn't in the spotlight and is a big name which is usually enough to get at least at QF.
ReplyDeleteThe two Germans as 4th official indicate that no more German refs will be appointed regardless of Germany's progression to the SF.
Not sure what to make of Orsato's appointment to the (on paper) easiest QF. Either Rosetti thought the time between the R16 match and the final was too big or if they actually plan with someone else for the final (which would be shocking - to me).
Taylor - huge risk with England still in it.
Makkellie - home
Turpin - didn't perform too well and France still in the tournament
Vincic - already got the CL final and didn't perform too well either
Marciniak - highly unlikely after RMA - BAY especially with Germany and Spain still in the tournament.
So to conclude - I still think the final is Orsato's too lose but I didn't expect him to get this assignment.
to add: Kuipers indicates that it is indeed a final test before the final for Orsato.
DeleteGuys, you should not count on words of comitee that some will officiate four games. Its last tournamet for Orsato, and, Rosetti appoint Kuipers as an observer. So its obvious that its final test for Orsato. And,yes, final is his. I do not see any other candidate. For semis, its obvious that Vincic will have one semifinal. Its just question who will be in other one.
ReplyDeleteWe have very surprising appointments, at least Orsato, back on the field after the extra times in Portugal - Slovenia.
ReplyDeleteBut... let's start with Turpin. The French is clear example, in this competition, of a referee with a very very strong background before starting the tournament. Belonging to the very top of Elite referees, outstanding career, good performances in recent times, Rosetti observation in CL semifinal. It was clear that he had started this tournament as very storng candidate for the final and big expectations by committee. In this context, the mistakes he made were more "excusable" by committee, they closed definitely their eyes, you understand what I mean. Another referee would have got different treatment, but Rosetti wanted to give him more based on career. This should also suggest us that the exclusive idea of having only Orsato as sure candidate for the final, should have been rather wrong, but for sure they had to keep an alternative. Now, I think that with this assignment he has reached very likely the last game, becuse he cant' get more after the mistkes in the opener, and you can indeed see that he has been assigned to the "best" game among the 4 of this round, including the surprising Turkey (appointment is made based on this national team and not that much Netherlands, still to be considered among top national teams). There is also France still in the tournament, so this seemed to be the best choice, but one should wonder whether after the opener this was deserved. Let's remember, other referees were sent home mostly for a missed hanbdall, but clearly committee, as said, had a favorite name for the tournament there.
About Orsato, strange assignment, because if he is planned for the final, that's a very risky choice. Not only for possible mistakes, but also for the physical condition, after a very long POR - SVN, he should have recovered more. It was possible to see him directly in final, but I think there are some "troubles" for committee. It will be hard to see the Italian again with Germany so maybe they want to wait and see whether the home-nation will be eliminated by Spain. Furthermore, one should also wonder whether, given that Rosetti pays big attention to that, the appointment of the Italian will be possible even with Germany out (host team, they criticized the referee, and so on). In this scenario, to me, they decided to go with a fourth game for him, as for now that it was still possible. He has more to lost than to gain, but this, differently from the R16, could be indeed the last one in some circumstances, I think. Finally, the argument that in case of final, he would get fifth assignment, definitely many games, but in this regard I invite you to check again 2020 (21) edition, and how Brych was managed in KO stage. One can surely make a comparison in terms of experience between the two, so something still possible for the Italian, but after today, to me the chances decreased a bit.
Now what we can say about the rest of assignments, Vincic is the only sure name as Ref Fot wrote above, and should be a semifinal, because impossible to think that after two group stage, he goes directly to final. Nevertheless, the mystery continues with difficult choices to make about the other two games.
One must also keep in mind that France (Letexier) and England (Taylor) could be still there after this round. So in case impossible appointments for them.
I think the German referees, both appointed as fourth officials, could have a chance in case of Germany out, but hard to believe after this assignment. Then, Marciniak should be considered again for a semifinal.
At moment my ideas are: Vincic and Marciniak semifinals.
Final: Orsato, but with many doubts and with a more than strange treatment so far. Definitely impossible to say. Unless, very big surprises...
Agree with your analysis. To add: I think the comittee would be very happy if Germany loses to Spain because it opens up a lot of options with Marciniak (and possibly Orsato).
DeleteTop comment,Chefren, detailed. I will agree with you about what you wrote, just to said that fifth game for Orsato(final) would not be the first time that comitee give five games to one referee. So in that way, there should not be suprise if we see Orsato fifth time. Also, about the semis name, Marciniak is very possible, but I still keep dream about Tello :):):). So,thanks again for detailed analysis.
DeleteI agree with Marciniak on one SF and Orsato still favourite for Final. The other SF is still very much open IMO. I would find it really strange that no other KO appointment for Vincic to go direct to a SF!
DeleteAlfie, not the first time. Eriksson in 2016 get semifinal after two group stage matches.
DeleteUnless the performance in Spain - Italy was assessed as weak, but well, knowing committee that's impossible. I dislike the style of the Slovenian but as long as no major mistakes and no discussions, OK for them. I think should be quite sure a semifinal for him.
DeleteHe did Ref Fot, under a previous committee though, this com seems to like to appoint numerous times, Brych as an example last time round. Oliver and now Orsato too.
DeleteI'm not saying it won't happen, just strange he wasn't given a Ro16 or QF!
I amy well be wrong - We will see!
Alfie, comitee was the same. Rosseti chairman, members/officers was Damkova,Sajn,Dallas, member was Carballo. Only difference between than and know is that Kuipers is officer/member,not Dallas.
DeleteAllfie, the comitte in 2021 was the same. Same mebers, only difference is Dallas/Kuipers.
DeleteAnd Collina/Rosetti!!
DeleteNo,Alfie.First Rosseti year as a chairman was 2018/2019 season.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThat's what I mean - Collina was in charge in 2016 when Eriksson did 2 matches and then a SF - not under Rosetti
DeleteIn that case, sorry, i thought that we speak about Brych, not Eriksson :)
DeleteNo worries :-)
DeleteFully agree on Chefren's analysis and especially on the statements "that's a very risky choice. Not only for possible mistakes, but also for the physical condition and "Orsato He has more to lost than to gain". Really bad management of assignment to me by comm.
Delete
ReplyDeleteWhy were Kovacs and Makkelie sent home? Why wasn't Turpin brought home? Rossetti and Ceferin have made UEFA their private enterprise and literally do whatever they want.
Kovacs is pretty obvious imo. Anyone who hands out 20 cards (incl. 2 RC) will be rejected nowadays. Don't understand why Makkellie has been rejected though. 8 min extra time? Didn't see any other major mistakes in his games...
Delete
DeleteTurpin had by far the worst performance at the opening of the EURO, but he is still there.
Turpin was planned for something very big at this EURO, so the mistakes he made are seen differently than others, that's clear.
DeleteOne can discuss about the ideas by committee, but as long as they are in charge... with good games so far, clearly a candidate for the final (without France).
Yep nowadays if you have high number of cards in your match ,it is determined that you had bad performance and are a bad a ref.
DeleteThat's what happened to Kovac, public and Uefa dont want 10 or more cards and that ref is focal point of the match, however match is challenging.
Looks like it's best to show just 3 cards, let players injure themselves and solve everything by talking to players.
That's what happened to Mateu,Kovacs, Ivanov,Webb and some other refs that were forced to show 10 or more cards.
That's why we see so many yound referees trying to be modern and like their colleagues-show less cards, talk to players and you will be succesful.
Ridiculous.
And for Makkelie...
I prefer not to speak.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Kuipers silent?
I don't understand what should Kuipers say?
DeleteHe probably means that Kuipers was a good referee and could say to Rosetti Something about good appointments
DeleteHe probably means Kuipers should have done more for Makkelie.
DeleteRosetti was excellent referee, Kuipers "only" very good.
@Unknown
DeleteIn my books, mr. Kuipers is (in a worst case) equally good ref as mr. Rosetti :)
DeleteKuipers had to protect Makkelie.
I guess general opinion is Vincic and Marciniak will get SFs and Orsota will lead to final match according to his performance in QF. I wonder what would happen if Orsato blows the QF match. Is there another option for final or one of Vincic or Marciniak would take final and anotherr alternative take SF?
ReplyDeleteOne shouldn't forget Anthony Taylor, always appreciated by Rosetti.
ReplyDeleteIf England out before final, another option. Maybe, strong option? Rosetti will observe him, but the game is very big and there is a chance to burn...
All expected the English in Champions League final, but he wasn't assigned.
You may all be mistaken about Marciniak's role in this tournament :)
ReplyDeleteYes, he will officiate directly the final :)
Deletedirectly? :)
DeleteA big surprise is coming... Think about witch referee (and is team, including VAR..), are out of the appointments, even like fourth official...
ReplyDeleteA relative surprise can be surely Letexier, but for me, at maximum in semifinal, this would be very deserved, but France must be out against Portugal, otherwise impossible to make an appointment.
DeleteVincic :)
DeleteSlavko Vincic
DeleteI have strange feeling about Vincic. No match for him for 2 weeks. Not even as 4-th official. Quaterfinale was the last chance to give him something but again nothing...
DeleteThese are strange appointments.
ReplyDeleteWhy some Referees (Oliver, Orsato) get Ro16 + QF (directly after each other)
and the referees for Semifinale and Finale didn't have any KO game before? (Vincic, ...)
Orsato really 5 games? (Ro16, QF + Finale). This is strange
Completely agree
DeleteMarciniak's management may be very similar to the World Cup, one match in the group phase, one match in the 1/8 and then the final. We know how fantastic he did in the grand final, maybe the committee thinks the same way to be sure of the most important match.
ReplyDeletePossible that if Orsato is to get fifth match, i.e. Final, it would be third time with England after Serbia and now Switzerland.
ReplyDeleteAnd if Switzerland goes to final also 3th time Switzerland not to forget... Germany-Switzerland, England-Switzerland
DeleteFinal arbira Artur Soares Dias
ReplyDeleteIMO, to not appoint Soares Dias again after AUTTUR and to appoint Vincic directly to the SF after ESPITA would be a scandal. We should remember that Rosetti's "only target is to take correct decisions based on meritocracy, quality and our values." ;)
ReplyDeleteSoares Dias arbitra a final com a eliminação de Portugal amanha
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised about Orsato's appointment. This is his last tournament as a referee and Rossetti is willing to send him of with as much matches as possible and of course with the final as well, and maybe it will not be undesrved but certainly won't be fair.
ReplyDeleteSo I am rather surprised people are make it seem as though his chances with the final have reduced with this appointments. Not a chance. Except he does something extraordinarily wrong in the match of course. But in my opinion, even with a weak performance like in Ger-Sui, he will still be appointment for the final.
How much longer will Rosetti the allmighty?
ReplyDeleteAre you guys sure that Vincic will get the semi-final appointment?
ReplyDeleteMy initial thought was, Yes he does based on .. *cough* politics. However, we haven’t seen the Slovenian VAR in the VAR Booth for a while.
That is at least a bit odd, if you see how much Irrati is (over)used as AVAR.
Well, it will be very odd if Vincic doesn't get SF or final
DeleteSemifinals:
ReplyDeleteVincic and Dias (if Portugal out)
Vincic and Letexier (if Fra out)
3rd option: Vincic and Marciniak
Final: Orsato/Dias (as a surprise)
As someone above mentioned, if Eng is eliminated, I can see Taylor as a candidate for the final...
Orsato’s appointment is quite odd. Is there any update on who are the referees that are still in Germany now with the quarter finals appointments realised and with only 3 games remaining. Who is still there and has there been anymore recent departures
ReplyDeleteVincic a semi-final because he was excellent in Spain-Italy or because he’s Slovenian? 😉
ReplyDeleteWithout joking, where is Nejc Kajtazovic? On a mini-vacation or what?
Irrati has 5 VAR/AVAR appearances in R16 and QF.
Kajtazovic zero. How do you explain that?
+1
DeleteThat's a very good point. No appointment for Kajtazovic should mean, he is already home.
DeleteAs there was no obvious mistake by him, the only logical explanation would be that Vincic (who hasn't appeared anywhere in 2 weeks since ESP-ITA) is also gone.
This would be deserved based on EURO performances, but still surprising given his pre-tournament status.
A R16 match with the chance to prove himself for more would have seemed like a good choice instead.
So if Vincic is really out (and Soares Dias as well), the options become really small for the SFs - especially, if Germany, France and England (and Turkey, if you see a chance for Meler) progress.
Marciniak should be nearly sure, but the other one?
OT: Belgian FIFA referee Jonathan Lardot (40) quits active refereeing and becomes the new technical director of the Belgian Professional Refereeing Department. He replaces Betrand Layec.
ReplyDeleteThe Belgianh FA also parts way with Frank De Bleeckere in mutual agreement.
More: https://www.rbfa.be/nl/nieuws/jonathan-lardot-nieuwe-technisch-directeur-arbitrage
is he confirmed to officiate the preliminary champions league match between THE NEW SAINTS FC (WAL) - FK DEČIĆ (MNE) ? It will most probably be his last international match
DeleteSoares Dias is out.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.jn.pt/1981096833/arbitro-artur-soares-dias-deixa-campeonato-da-europa/
Unbelievable and scandalous by Rosetti. So all those blah blah blah about meritocracy was one big lie. Again nice "thank you" gift for the best performance of the tournament, just like Çakir three years ago. Shame on this RefCom...
DeleteThe problem with this committee is that they don't care exclusively about performances but they have already certain ideas in mind. This EURO was not a tournament where referees got what they deserved game after game, rather, committee was only worried about the reactions by teams and in addition to that, they started the competition with already planned intentions in their minds. No matter that somebody was very good / outstanding...
DeleteWell have to say I'm surprised. The reason for this is that Dias has already worked with the teams in the opposite bracket to Portugal (Ned, Aut, Eng).
DeleteSo why is Orsato refereeing for the 2nd time Switzerland & England?
Nonsense
Orsato repeats ENG and SUI, although he even had controversy in GER-SUI.
ReplyDeleteSo wouldn't it have been more logical to give him NED-TÜR and to use Turpin (who had a clean ENG game on MD3) for ENG-SUI?
Furthermore NED/TÜR are less likely to reach the final (and see Orsato there again?) on paper.
Is there any argument for the chosen order of games except protecting Orsato more, because NED-TÜR is expected more difficult?
Also, why not swapping Siebert and Zwayer, when the latter had NED in the last round and TÜR before...?
Quite frankly the appointing in these quarter finals are baffling to say the least and with some simple checks, repetition of officials could easily be avoided.
DeleteIf Eng, Fra & Ger all win their QF's - I'm not sure who else is left (I'm presuming Vincic) - the comm are leaving themselves very short in case of let's say a poor performance from Orsato!
Completely agree with the arguments.
DeleteWould be more “logical” to appoint Orsato to NED-TUR. However, I assumed that the RefCom considered it a risky appointment. Two teams with a reputation, many hotheads etc, and a high number of cards when things don’t go smooth. Things could easily run out of hand and that could burn his final chances.
I think, this RefCom identified ENG-SUI as the most safe game for Orsato.
Honestly the whole appointment strategy is a mess. Like Chefren stated, as if the referees in the final 3 have been pre-decided before the tournament started.
Semi-Finals: Marciniak - Vincic
ReplyDeleteFinal: Orsato
(Source: UEFA RC)
After we all saw how UEFA works I think there will be big surprise in final. I think at these appointments:
ReplyDeleteSPA/GER - POR/FRA - Kovacs (who is still at the tournament btw!!!)
ENG/SWI - NED/TUR - Marciniak
Final - Vincic (and then Ceferin could left his position in glory) ;)
Kovacs was sent home after 18 YC 2 RC
DeleteVinčić wouldn't be the biggest surprise imaginable for me. It would be a big surprise for me if Danny Makkelie were flown back in to officiate the final (if the Netherlands don't qualify for it).
DeleteOT:
ReplyDeleteDemiral suspended for 2 matches after his fascist wolf salute.
Bellingham fined for 20k after his "kiss my balls" gesture.
UEFA seems to mean business
ReplyDeleteOliver, Taylor, Orsato and Turpin! Top level indeed, am very happy
Committee completely lost the plot in managing of big names:
ReplyDelete#1. Orsato - main contender for final, now get a tricky game 5 days after 120 min match with his fitness, he is not saved for final - to be honest I can't see a logic
#2. Marciniak - only 1 GS game, 4O in QF, mobbed by Committee
#3. Turpin - if any other referee had a opener as Frenchman, he will be in home. He get another game for recovering, and now he get a possible hot QF with chances for final
#4 Vincić - directly for SF?
#5 Makkelie - in home. If Turpin had a second chance, why Makkelie didn't get specially in case lack of crucial mistakes. No big reasons
to be rejected
#6 Kovacs - great season, now he is in home, after war game
#7 Taylor - only logic appointmens, with the biggest game at euro tournament
#8 Oliver - average referee with R16 and QF! Not too much for Englishman specially in "performance principle"?
In managing of second half of referee I can find a logic:
Tello - rejected
Guida, Scharer, Kruzliak, Siebert - two games
Letexier, Nyberg - three matches, good material for future, now going to Olympics
Meler, Dias - good tournament
Only Gil Manzano is a another story, not related to EURO.
A big names? Very big mess, I can't find a logic. Now I think that everything is possible - Turpin, Marciniak or Vincić directly for final? Why not?
Big finals for referees CL, EL, ECL, WC, CWC, SC (only active at Euro tournament):
ReplyDeleteMarciniak 4 (WC, CL, CWC, SC)
Taylor 4 (EL, CWC, NL, SC)
Turpin 2 (CL, EL)
Vincić 2 (CL, EL)
Kovacs 2 (EL, ECL)
Orsato 1 (CL)
Makkelie 1 (EL)
Soares Dias 1 (ECL)
Oliver 1 (SC)
Letexier 1 (SC)
Zwayer 1 (NL)
And bonus!
Kuipers 6 (EURO, CL, ELx2, ConfCup, SC)
Cakir 2 (CL, CWC)
To be honest - for me Taylor is already over(finals)appointments!
Why 2 English referees in QF (England still in tournament)
ReplyDeletebut 0 German referees in QR (Germany still in tournament)??
Performances were equal.
1 English & 1 German would have been more fair?
How some guys here still believe appointments are made according to performance-based principle or with any logic is frankly baffling :)
ReplyDeleteIt's all politics, Ceferin interferes and the most powerful teams do have to validate the referee, otherwise he's out.
Leave fantasy world aside, please.
Refereeing is one of the most political worlds outside of parliament.
DeleteImmediately after the quarter-final appointments in EURO2020, the referees of the semi-final and final matches were disclosed by the Turkish Press days ago. We also discussed it here. Now the situation is the same. UEFA has clearly determined the referees for the semi-final and final matches...
ReplyDeleteCOPA AMERICA QUARTER FINAL APPOINMENTS:
ReplyDeleteM. Mariani (Italy - Uefa) has reached quarterfinal; it's wired he was not promoted to elite two weeks ago.
Uruguay-Brazil
Referee: Dario Herrera (ARG)
Assistant referee N°1: Juan P. Belatti (ARG)
Assistant referee N°2: Cristian Navarro (ARG)
Fourth official: Ivan Barton (SLV)
Fifth official: Henri Pupiro (NIC)
VAR: Guillermo Pacheco (MEX)
AVAR: Erick Miranda (MEX)
AVAR 2: Tatiana Guzman (NIC)
Referee assistant: Leonel Leal (CRC)
Quality Manager: Victor H. Carrillo (PER)
Colombia-Panamá
Referee: Maurizio Mariani (ITA)
Assistant referee N°1: Daniele Bindoni (ITA)
Assistant referee N°2: Alberto Tegoni (ITA)
Fourth official: Kevin Ortega (PER)
Fifth official: Michael Orue (PER)
VAR: Marco Di Bello (ITA)
AVAR: Aleandro Di Paolo (ITA)
AVAR 2: Gery Vargas (BOL)
Referee assistant: Olga Miranda (PAR)
Quality Manager: Gustavo Rossi (ARG)
The next six months must be crucial for Mariani promotion to Elite category. After Orsato retirement, he is edfinitely planned to become Italy third Elite. He didn't manage to do that so far, with rather poor results impeding him from making the big step. We will see how things will go in UEFA competitions on next months for him.
DeleteIt is also interesting to spend some words about this exchange UEFA - CONMEBOL, as I'm reading on Twitter, there is a big dissatisfaction by South American refereeing experts. While at EURO one of the best CONMEBOL referee was sent (and directly selected by Rosetti), it wasn't the same for CONMEBOL, who got a Category 1. Maybe CONMEBOL heads of refereeing are not so expert about UEFA refereeing, like Rosetti is expeert about CONMEBOL. Nevertheless, the result is still that Mariani was better than almost all referees, one could say, with so many mistakes we saw in all games. This must be a point for big reflection by CONMEBOL. We could be allowed to say that UEFA, in this exchange, appears to be the "major" confederation, while CONMEBOL the minor one. Shouldn't work in this way in my opinon.
Best referee from CONMEBOL must mean the same from UEFA.
UEFA could really have sent Makkelie to the Copa, if they don‘t want him at the EURO anyway…
DeleteBTW, any chances for a Tello SF?
Tello is in Argentina
DeleteDrMr,what is your source for Tello?
DeleteThe management of Vinčić has been really baffling.
ReplyDeleteFirst, Champions League final after a hidden path.
Followed by: EURO 2024: MD1 + MD2.
“Smart” managed by keeping him away from decisive MD3 games as those will trigger most headlines, especially when losing sides will just focus on a referee performance (*cough* .. Makkelie).
Vinčić hasn’t worked since June 20.
His VAR Kajtazovic hasn’t worked since June 22.
What have they done in the meantime?
UEFA: “dear Team Vinčić, we think you have done an excellent job! Nobody talks about you. Enjoy your time-off. Oh, and make sure you are ready for a semi-final July 9-10.
🤦
Sure, a semi-final is pretty much his ceiling and apparently that’s what he gets. Thanks to a nationality…
UEFA is more than happy to mob its referees and/or burn them as sacrificial lambs, in order to pave the way for Orsato (F) and Vinčić (SF).
Ceferin better resigns before 2027, because we can’t take him seriously anymore. And the “mobbing” referees (e.g. Marciniak, Makkelie, Cakir, Lahoz) is scandalous.
Could be interesting to see what happens when Germany proceeds. German media were not happy with Orsato’s performance at all. Moreover, Marciniak is better than Vinčić and should always be the top candidate for the semi-final in upper bracket. If Germany proceeds, it will be Vinčić in Germany vs France/Portugal? Yikes.
I can’t believe this UEFA circus.
German media would be way less happy if Marciniak were to get a Germany game. Haven't seen a ref criticized as much in the German media as he has after the CL SF.
DeleteIn other words, Vinčić will be on Germany’s semi-final if they proceed..
DeleteI think you guys still haven't thought about what might have happened to Orsato. I guess he was planned by Rosetti to get the final (he did not deserve it anyway), but most probably Ceferin didn't like that penalty given by Orsato against his country in POR X SLO. I'd say he made it clear to Rosetti that Orsato couldn't be awarded the final or even a SF, so Rosetti decided to appoint his compatriot for QF fixture between ENG X SUI and it'll be perhaps his farewell match.
ReplyDeleteVincic should be the one getting the final. I don't know if there's ever been a UEFA president like Ceferin. This is way too much.
Its almost imposibble for Vincic to have a final. Forget on that. Semifinal is his maximum. President Ceferin can like/or not like the clear penalty, but I think that thing what is more impritant for him is to not like on exapmle Sesko missing etc...Than three penalties missed. Final is cleared for Orsato .
DeleteNot true. If Orsato is out for the final, they would give him a semi-final instead.
DeleteNow he’s appointed to QF with Kuipers observing him, and it’s probably the least “risky” QF on paper. So he’s definitely still in the running. The reason why he has to work on a QF after the exhausting R16 game - idk. Perhaps lack of trust of other referees. Perhaps there is still some sort of ‘battle’ between Orsato, Turpin and Taylor.
In my honest opinion, there have been too many Italian officials in UEFA- and FIFA finals this century. Orsato will be the 4th (!!). That’s 4/13, which is more than 30% of the UEFA/FIFA finals the 00’ century.
ReplyDeleteTaylor, if he gets it, would be the 3rd English after Webb and Clatts.
And talking about political power, Argentina has some massive influence within FIFA. Their refs always go deep and when their NT didn’t like the referee, he’s sent home. Period.
Kuipers had the EURO final at EURO 2020 (2021), and the other Dutch, Makkelie had a semi-final.
Quite obvious what happened to the latter afterwards. UEFA didn’t want to see a Dutch official anywhere near a final probably at least until 2025 or so. Between 2022-2024 they were happy to burn Makkelie in high profile games whenever they could.
Turpin would be the 1st French in a WC/UEFA final this century. He’s always blocked by his NT. But he’s certainly under a special focus now by Rosetti, since the UCL semi-final game in München. Unfortunately he didn’t help himself with 3 OFRs. At the same time, when Turpin gets the EURO final now, or in 2026/2028, it will obviously decrease the chances of his compatriot Letexier ever holding that final whistle.
*Side note: when Björn Kuipers and Carlos Velasco have entered the RefCom as referee officers, the level of refereeing and Spain and the Netherlands didn’t improve. Rather the contrary.
Perhaps, they should care a bit more about that - and support Manzano and Makkelie? It’s quite baffling how they are managed by UEFA tbh.
To clarify, I’m just talking about EURO- and World Cups finals. Not the club competitions.
DeleteHave you seen who runs the Referee Committee?
DeleteAccording to kicker, the EURO dissent guidelines will also been used in the European club competitions next season.
ReplyDeleteWhich dissent guidelines? (Watching ESP-GER right now)
DeleteIndeed, it is mostly like before, with the exception of some referees who were already used to that.
DeleteAs already noted Orsato will have the final. Already signed and sealed.
ReplyDeleteThe plan is to give him as many games as possible and the QF is the warm up for the final.
The referee for the final has to meet a profile.
ReplyDeleteIt is nothing to do with the nitty, picky 'he missed a yellow card' or the 'he missed a throw in' stuff expressed here.
The referee for the final has to be someone who Ceferin approves of as it is he who wilk shake his hand on the podium in Berlin.
So, to be clear the referee for the final needs to meet a 'profile' a professional profile.
That profile will be a mix of esteem, popularity, standing in the game, affiliation to UEFA, FIFA and the FIGC.
Moreover it will also be an appointment made that is a 'thank you'.
The path has been laid - Italy lost to Switzerland.
