ReplyDeleteSpain-Germany:Taylor

DeleteAny info about refs who already went home?
ReplyDeleteDelay again. I guess they will announce all 4 appointments within an hour.
ReplyDeleteConfirmé, Taylor
ReplyDeleteESP # GER
Confirmed where?
DeleteAccording to IG-Schiedrichter, Taylor confirmed for GER-SPA
ReplyDeleteIG-Schiedsrichter also confirmed Orsato gone after group stage...(ofc this time they are correct)
DeleteHas istvan Kovac been sent home?
ReplyDeleteAfter 18 YC YES
DeleteYep,everybody is talking about 18 YC's.
DeleteNobody is saying and analizyng whether they were deserved.
That's the modern refereeing-stay out of focus, show less and you are great.
18 YC, and everyone of them was deserved!!! He would have been better off to give himself a RC at the start of the game!
Deletehttp://refereeingworld.blogspot.com/2024/07/dutch-referee-makkelie-dumped-by-uefa.html
ReplyDelete"However, the referee does not determine how many extra minutes are played, but the VAR in consultation with the fourth official."
DeleteReally? I didn't know it works like this. Frankly, it sounds stupid, the referee should be the one who decide the amount of added time.
"However, the referee does not determine how many extra minutes are played, but the VAR in consultation with the fourth official."
DeleteReally? I didn't know that this is how it works. It sounds stupid to me, the referee should be the one who decides the amount of minutes added to the match.
Could someone please explain how it works? @Chefren
DeleteI thought there is a stopwatch that timed the time lost through substitutions and injury stoppages, and the referee has nothing to do with it
In the LOTG it's clearly stated the the referee is the only one in title to determine the play time (2 half of 45 min) and the extra time
DeleteNope.
DeleteShortly before the end of the 45th and 90th minute, the referee says what the stoppage time will be for him, and then the VAR room informs the referee what the stoppage time will be for them.
In the end, the referee will decide what the stoppage time will be.
Also, the referee cannot whistle the end until he receives feedback from the var room whether a check is in progress.
SPA - GER: Makkelie
ReplyDeletePOR - FRA: Taylor
Semi final: Marciniak
NED - TUR: Vincic
ENG - SWI: Turpin
Semi final: Orsato
Final: Vincic
Soares Dias had very consistent games, and if Portugal loses on Friday, he may shuffles all the appointments for Semis or even the final.
Makkelie has been sent home apparently.
DeleteSpain - Germany: Anthony Taylor (England)
ReplyDeleteUEFA.com
France - Portugal: Michael Oliver
ReplyDeleteSource: UEFA
With both English officials in the quarter finals does that indicate that will be the end of there tournament
ReplyDeleteFor Oliver, I think so, and Taylor might still get the semi-final.
DeleteOliver confirmed for POR-FRA and Taylor for GER-SPA
ReplyDeleteProbably mean that UEFA retain Marciniak for one of semifinals!
ReplyDeleteWhy 2 English referees in 4 quarterfinals? That's not particularly balanced and Oliver has only just had a round of 16 match
ReplyDeleteMarciniak fourth official, POR - FRA was on paper a game for him.
ReplyDeleteI think they selected Oliver because they didn't want to appoint Marciniak for another game, difficult to see him main referee again after fourth official duties. If so, all the rest should be already planned. Still no Turpin, that's normal based on performances, but then why he was kept...
What did Marciniak worse than Oliver?
DeleteI don't understand why two games for Oliver straight after each other.
Marciniak had no bad performances so far (or worse than Oliver)
The discussions about the Polish are not related about his performances at EURO, we know.
DeleteTo me, it's possible committee had a discussion (delay with appointments) not agreeing about appointing Marciniak and at the end they just selected the English to make a different choice. We will see whether the Polish, as I guess, will not guess another game. Oliver appointment is too strange, immediately on the field again after a few time, with committee having other options on paper, and two English in Quarterfinals...
Brych had a Ro16, QF and SF last time I believe, so no problem for Oliver to have 2 games however, I had Marciniak as referee for that match. So, they keep him for a SF 2 in my opinion.
DeleteKruzliak 4th official at this stage is a strange one considering he wasn't used in the Ro16.
Frolich observer for Oliver again is also a bit strange for me.
Would not be the first time that 4th officials was latter appointed in quarterfinals/semifinals. In Euro 2016 Brych/Kuipers/Eriksson was 4th officials in round of 16, and latter, they was appointed in quarter/semifinals! Everything is possible, but I dont see Turpin in later stages.
ReplyDeleteMaybe UEFA just felt, that both English referees were so good, that they must get another game. And with the English team still in the competition, those were the only options.
ReplyDeleteMarciniak could still get a SF though, I think. Or the final...
Taylor’s appointment expected Oliver’s appointment quite out of the blue, I’m not sure if this was the original appointment by the committee and then maybe something had to change. Also what do we read into if anything Rossetti observing Taylor ??
ReplyDeleteI think, if Taylor performs well again and England are eliminated, Rossetti will decide between Taylor and Orsato for the final. The other gets a semi final along with Marciniak
DeleteWould have been more sensible to have the VARs the other way around to avoid Attwell repeating Germany (who even had some "VAR helps Germany" headlines) and van Boekel repeating France.
ReplyDeleteTip
ReplyDeleteSemifinale 1 Vinic
Semifinale 2 Marciniak
Finale Orsato
Be a bit strange to see Vincic in a SF without any previous KO matches imo.
DeleteIt's strange, but it was made on Fifa world cup 2014
DeleteAfter excellent performances, which is not the case of Vincic with all due respect
DeleteOliver's appointment is strange and rather undeserved imo. He had missed a clear handball penalty that was not difficult to spot. And his performance was criticized by media, so I don't understand on what considerations they appointed him. Taylor's appointment is expected, nothing to add here, and Rosetti presence there should not mean anything particular.
ReplyDeleteThat handball wan't actually easy to spot live imo. They have appointed him on politics and a decent scores from observers. The media may have been critical, however, his decisions were correct!!
DeleteOverall the performance was satisfactory. The handball was very difficult to see, as the referee was positioned correctly but covered by the body of the player touching the ball with his arm.
DeleteWill UEFA announce the nominations for the last two quarterfinals today or only tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteWith Oliver appointed again after R16, one can wonder, whether Letexier is also an option for the QF. Double French on Saturday maybe?
ReplyDeleteWell That wouldn't surprise me at all!!
DeleteLetexier is leaving for the Olympics, so it is unlikely that he will referee anything else and that they will keep him there like Nyberg
DeleteOlivers's performance was Not so good that He deserved another Game. Rosetti should finally disappear.
ReplyDeleteWow. Oliver appointed is a shocker, even more so with Marciniak as 4th Official. I think it is fair to say committe is completly lacking names. FRA-POR in a quarter-final looks quite big for Oliver not only with his profile, but also his tournament performances (neither good nor bad imo).
ReplyDeleteAlmost all "big" names seem to be rejected or doubted.
Makkelie dubiously rejected, Orsato probably saved himself. Turpin with a bad start and an average recovery game. Maybe we see him Saturday but I am not so sure. Kovacs was impossible to keep after a war game he at least managed badly. Vincic could also have been rejected for ESP-ITA, surely tho he missplayed his cards to get something really big (Friday QFs bigger then Saturday QFs). Marciniak very harshly not given any chance over a single error prior to the EURO.
I´d guess now Letexier should be save. And either Vincic or Turpin (who missplayed it less in committes eyes) for the other game. But who the hell gets the semis. Now Soares Dias? 3 months ago Chefren didnt even predict him to attend the EURO. And repeating Taylor in a semi, hoping England are eliminated? Also after a mediocre season. Maybe even Nyberg with a semi-final which would be way too much for him.
Either way it is save to say. It is all a big mess.
-> "Either way, it is safe to say it's all a big mess".
DeleteExactly.
That pretty much sums it up.
DeleteThere is no logic, there is politics somewhat.....
We can now expect everything….
5 games without assignments: Orsato, Vincic, Diaz, Tello and still Marciniak
Agree, it is a total mess at this point. It all started to go wrong with the appointments in MD3. There were a lot of dubious choices that narrowed by a lot the number of options for the KO. There were still options for the first KO round but now they are really in trouble. The MD3 had the worst / uninspired set of appointments in a final tournament in the recent history. I highlighted the problem even then, but to my surprise some defended the Com for their choices. The appointments were poorly made and the performances were poor in general, maybe as a consequence. The Com made the mess, I am really curious to see how they will solve it. If they can.
DeleteThey can't in my opinion...
DeleteTo me, the choice with Oliver looks like something made up at the last minute. I think Marciniak was there and something happened at the last minute.
For MD 3, some things happened the same way.
A forecast for tomorrow is also difficult, precisely because of this. I allow an agreement with the South Americans for at least 1/4 final of Tello, Diaz deserves one more match....I guess the last three matches are : Vincic, Marciniak and Orsato.
The nominations today make it very clear that referee for the final will come from this round. I guess Vincic and Turpin will be announced tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteOrsato and Marciniak for semis.
Rossetti preference would probably be an English referee (they are the best managing emotions, either their own and the players).
If England make it to the final, then Turpin or Vincic, whoever performs better, if France doesn’t go the final.
*Soares Dias can’t be discarded, I think he has been the best referee so far, and after seeing Oliver appointed today, he could be appointed for England vs Switzerland, or be a choice if no good alternatives/ performances are left for the Final
I really dont know(I respect what all speaking while it is constructive), but someone still waste time about speaking who will be in the final, when all of us know that it will be Orsato. Better to spoke about tomorow and semis.
ReplyDeleteWell, I will also said that based on qulaity deserved appoint of Oliver. Taylor was logical. Still unkonwn what was with Marciniak, possible save for semis!
ReplyDeleteWhy is experienced Romanian referee Hategan at Olympia and unexperienced Catalina Popa at Euro?
ReplyDeleteAny chance Hategan will return on the big stage? So sad what he had to go through the last years
UEFA RAP 2024:1 : https://we.tl/t-QL2ZLlDkam
ReplyDeleteWhat about Siebert? Can he get a QF?
ReplyDeletePrediction:
Letexier or Siebert ENGSUI
Vinčić NEDTUR
Semifinals
ReplyDeleteESP/GER-POR/FRA: Halil Umut Meler
NED/TUR-ENG/SUI: Slavko Vincic
Final: Orsato or Marchinak
No penalty?
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/w_YVI35NtTc?si=zubPO9kYM5Vffwra
J.Valenzuela was main ref,VAR were Mauro Vigliano ARG)and Jonny Bossio(PER)
Now,in Brazilian media stories are and will be that argentine var did not give penalty on purpose.
I cant see how this was not a penalty.
Copa America refereeing this year has been controversial, to say the least.
Also,no RC was shown in Costa Rica-Paraguay match for blatant elbow off the ball.
But I guess elbows off the ball are pretty normal.
We in Europe should be thankful for level of referreeing that we're seeing cause just look at other federations
Scandalous refereeing.
And he ended the match with a possible penalty not been checked by var because he ended the match... a lot of players around him, was a very difficult match. Unfortunately it's been very difficult to watch Copa America.
DeleteFeels like Copa America has had too many controversial decisions/non decisions from every round of games. Can’t see how VAR justifies this tackle, it seems like a very clear and easy decisions to make.
DeleteNo penalty confirmed due to "defender touching the ball with the lower part of his foot on the ground", I don't know if I should laugh or cry tbh
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_YVI35NtTc
As i sad before ... Oliver deserved another match.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Swedish website Fotbollskanalen (lit. The Football Channel), Nyberg has been sent home: https://www.fotbollskanalen.se/em-2024/glenn-nybergs-em-over-har-lamnat-tyskland/
ReplyDeleteNot really surprising, I don't think he was ever getting another game regardless of his performance in FRABEL. Maybe he could've stayed as a 4O, but it's probably better for him to home and prepare for the Olympics. Very good first big tournament for him though, hopefully many more to come!
Wow! I'm really surprised with Oliver's appointment for big clash like Portugal-France.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I think that Oliver is #9-10 in UEFA ranking, and now he gets very sonorous game! Marciniak in FO role - for me is another form spitting for his face.
Taylor's appointment - deserved and expected.
In UEFA competitions Taylor is clearly ahead than Oliver, but:
Big tournaments:
EURO24 - Oliver 4 games (max QF), Taylor 3 games (max QF)
WC2022 - Oliver 3 games (max QF), Taylor 2 games (only GS, no KO!)
EURO20 - Oliver 3 games (max QF), Taylor 3 games (max R16)
Simultaneosly big finals:
Taylor 4: EL 2023, CWC 2022, NL 2021, SuperCup 2020
Oliver 1: SuperCup 2022
Oliver has a more big and sonorous matches in tournaments (every time he was better than Taylor in terms of appointments), but Taylor has 4 big finals!
Big finals for referees CL, EL, ECL, WC, CWC, SC (only active at Euro tournament):
DeleteMarciniak 4 (WC, CL, CWC, SC)
Taylor 4 (EL, CWC, NL, SC)
Turpin 2 (CL, EL)
Vincić 2 (CL, EL)
Kovacs 2 (EL, ECL)
Orsato 1 (CL)
Makkelie 1 (EL)
Soares Dias 1 (ECL)
Oliver 1 (SC)
Letexier 1 (SC)
Zwayer 1 (NL)
And bonus!
Kuipers 6 (EURO, CL, ELx2, ConfCup, SC)
Cakir 2 (CL, CWC)
To be honest - for me Taylor is already over(finals)appointments!
Predictions 6 July:
ReplyDeleteEngland - Switzerland: Turpen
Netherlands – Turkey: Tello
There are many people who do not like Ronaldo. A very good soccer player but many consider a spoiled brat. Who thinks the game revolves around him. Is Rosetti trying to punish Ronaldo by assigning Oliver to this game? Oliver is a straight
ReplyDeleteBy the book referee who has little room for discretion and little room for the emotional responses of southern Europeans. Ronaldo will not last the entire game unless Oliver goes into his withdrawn and passive self. Has Oliver learn from his RM vs Juventus experience?
