Why no VAR on WC qualification matches ?

DeleteYou are right; it should be in charge to Uefa body and government. There isn't any plan to develop refereeing in the poor countries (from soccer point of view).
DeleteFor example, in the shoes of Uefa, I would impose high level countries to assign on their domestic league referees coming from neighbors poor countries.
Spain and Pourtgal should assign referees from Andorra and Gibratler, Italy referees from San marino, France referees from Luxemburg, and so on...
Let's remember that the development of VAR in all UEFA competitions is at moment blocked due to COVID reasons, before thinking about World Cup qualifiers, an earlier step must be Europa League group stage, this was postponed as well. So, before the reasons you mentioned, for sure you must now consider that. Then, coming into the argument of small federations, I don't know how it could work in case in future VAR will be used also in qualifiers. For sure many stadiums, not only the ones from small federations, will have to be adjusted for the use of technology. I don't see this possible in a close future.

According to the club, the attack was planned and brutal, with evidence being covering the cameras at the place where it happened. It was witnessed by a UEFA delegate and Steven Gerrard, along with the Slavia delegation. From anonymous source, Koudela has apparently called Kamara "a fucking monkey" on the pitch, but it is not comfirmed. The Rangers' manager did not critizise the attack and called the foul on Kolář "clash with the goalie".

The possibilities for great Greek Referee like Kyros Vassaras seems like an unattainable dream for Greece at the moment.

ReplyDeleteIf you follow Greek refereeing, you know that this is not possible. Most of the teams don't trust Greek referees and the Ref Committee. So, unfortunately, bringing foreigners is the only solution in order to avoid worse scenes.

DeleteI disagree. Greek refs should be in charge of 85% of games, and foreign referees have to be an exception for some (not all) big clashes. It is completely unacceptable that greek referees are seemingly good enough to officiate one league game, but not the other. I would compare this to Turkey: we all saw those scenes in Turkey of molesting referees and fights, but again from that atmosphere you still get Cakir, Palyabik, Meler and so on...

DeleteAnd unfortunately refereeing organization is one of the biggest problems in Croatia. Every few years someone in the Executive Committee (who is also related to one of the clubs) is unhappy with one performance on one match, he initiate dismisal of Referees Committee and then they do it. Furtheremote, despite Referees Committee is responsible for creating lists at the beggining of the season, Executive committee has the power to overrule Referees Committee and add or move someone of the list. And again, some committee members are related to clubs, then referees are afraid to referee to those clubs, and so on and so on.

Deleteit is 2021, and people still do not know that the designations for the qualifiers are made by the confederations that send them to FIFA and are then approved or rejected (something very rare to happen) by FIFA.
DeleteAppointments are made by UEFA, confirmed by FIFA. In FIFA matches all match officials must be FIFA listed. On UEFA matches AR2 and 4O don't need to be international listed referees.
Delete@superstar0110 yes exactly. although i have never in a qualifier seen any rejection of an appointment made by uefa. i think this is just "outsourced" by fifa to uefa (and all other conferedations alike). i dont even think that the handfull of people who work for fifa referee department even have time to check every single appointment (how many would there be, probalbly more than 100 per match-day...). in uefa matches it is not always that ar2 and 4o dont have to be international listed...

DeleteI agree with you @Upstylon but as a grassroots referee in Spain I use Macron and pockets in both shirt and shorts are too short and should be deeper. In order to keep and issue cards/notepad Adidas is much better.

There is a handball but not deliberate and arm is in natural position. Even there was VAR I don't think this is a penalty.
DeleteI think, "when a player falls and the hand/arm is between the body and the ground to support the body, but not extended laterally or vertically away from the body" could be applied there, although there is some arm to ball movement.

DeleteIMO missed goal for Netherlands following a corner. Replays didn't give clear angle. Before the corner there was a clear foul missed against Turkey. Oliver was very good till 45th min but one clear missed foul and following that missed goal by AR2 will drop his mark.

DeleteWe can’t be sure if the ball crossed the line completely with the images available. So even with VAR in place a goal couldn’t have been awarded (based on the footage shown so far).

The handball before Turkey’s first goal was a typical case of support arm IMO, so correct to play on.

ReplyDeleteAnother penalty, this one correct as well. Extremely challenging game for Oliver, who I think did very well. The only mistake (probably) was the missed goal, but hard to detect and no proof. Well done to Oliver!

DeleteAgree, good to see Oliver with a good performance, I think he has been quite unfairly downgraded at UEFA scale in recent times.
DeleteAbout the possibly missed goal, broadcaster didn't show a picture clearly answering whether it was a goal or not. If it should've been a goal, this is the proof that at least GLT must be used: Such crucial games need the better tools to be played in optimal conditions.
I agree with the above comments, excellent game by Oliver. Testament to his calm demeanour that the game never spilled over. 2 good penalty calls and a couple of good no penalty calls.
ReplyDeleteThe goal/no goal is difficult, no definitive angle and the AR is well positioned, even though it looks probably in. I don't think it would be fair to criticise such a close decision.
Contrary to most Oliver fans I do understand UEFA considering Oliver not ultimate top of elite. Tonight all KMI’s correct or at least supportable, but I didn’t really like Oliver’s foul detection/selection. He whistled nearly every physical contact, when in several cases play on would be perfectly OK, and some calls simply incorrect. Free kick before Turkey’s 4th goal was a soft one, as IMO was the penalty awarded to the Dutch.
ReplyDeleteAnd his appearance/body language, as usually, looked rather disinterested. Some people like that style, I don’t, it’s a matter of taste.
All in all obviously not a bad performance, but in my view this performance exactly underlined UEFA rating him as below the ‘real elite top’.

Alain Durieux not with a bad showing, he could be something if he is given his chances. However, brutal SFP tackle only punished with a YC. Even for today's UEFA scale this has to be a 9 at least.

He could show YC to Irish player at the begining of the match (for reckless start) but he chose verbal warning and that was good choice.
Problems began in the 2nd half. Two missed penalties (52' and 55'), as I reported previously.
Apart from that he had big, big problems with positioning (to far from play, bad angle, bad anticipation).
I really expected more from the Serie A referee.

In my opinion two clear penalties, indeed.
DeleteFirst case: I didn't like that Massa, despite of a player blocking his view, didn't try to react to better see what was happening, I think indeed he had an obstructed view and he assessed the challenge as fair on the ball. However, most of all the replays are very tricky. It seems that defender hits ball, but that's not true, because last replay is decisive. Clear penalty.
Second case: another very clear penalty for careless challenge. In this case it seems as Massa is looking at another direction, maybe the ball, and doesn't see at all what is happening. He doesn't react as requested when the incident happens. Maybe a lack of alertness for a while. This was very clear penalty. In both cases, explanation is that he didn't see well (at all) what happened.

55' I would have whistled that. But I can see this not being whistled in a CL-KO-stage game, where UEFA only want very clear PKs.

ReplyDelete52' From the footage it's just not possible to tell who played the ball. Ball clearly changes direction so I can see why Massa thought it was played by the defender.
55' Player accidentally slips and blocks the way of the attacker. No deliberate tripping. However, since he's so clearly blocking the attacker's way to the goal I would prefer a penalty here.

DeleteI understand that countries like Andorra and Gibraltar don’t have the financial resources to implement GLT. But a country who host the CL FINAL this season and don’t want to use GLT is a shame.
Nowadays football is all about money and politics, but fair play should be no. 1. IMO GLT and VAR are part of fair play.

de Ligt is the world's most expensive defender (€ 85.50m). But after each position he screams and opens his arms and protests against the referee. This situation negatively affects his concentration. He always makes big mistakes in defense, as he did yesterday and Juventus. If he wants to be a big player like Maldini, Ramos, van Dijk, he should only concentrate on the match.
