Here the situation from Mainz - Arminia Bielefeld:
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/67pjg6
Very good handling with VAR of an unexpected situation.
Looking at the incidemt, I think that indeed something similar to this previous case happened:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/53078033
The position of keeper, covering ball with body, his white shoes and white gloves may have caused a malfunction in the system.
Also in Ligue 1 the similar incident occurred:
Deletehttps://www.beinsports.com/my/football/video/the-first-failure-of-the-goal-line-technology/667458
The incident in England still irks me so so much !!! How can VAR be so robotic when actual humans operate. Fair enough it is a situation never experienced before and probably no prior protocol for that but you have a VAR which protocol falls under the guise of checking every goal action and that was one, without a doubt you recommend a review because it’s always better to do the right thing even if it might go against protocol. What you have done as VAR ?
DeleteDoes anyone who is watching Crystal Palace - Everton right now have any doubt that Mr. Stuart Attwell is a complete idiot and he is dangerous for the safety of the players?
ReplyDeleteIt is clear you strongly feel that he had a bad performance. But simply insulting him without being more specific is surely no way to construct an argument?
DeleteI watched the game and thought he did alright
DeleteExcellent non-penalty call by Orsato in Venezia-Sampdoria (52'): I don't know if Orsato didn't see anything or if he judged the episode correctly, but it looked like a clear penalty, very good not to whistle.
ReplyDeleteIndeed at first glance it looked penalty but replay showed that it was the attacker kicking defender, if we are referring to the same situation. Given that he didn't whistle any foul, I think that more likely he didn't see anything there.
DeleteHigler with a quite ambarassing moment in Utrecht-Groningen today. Blamed the Groningen striker very convincing of a dive, but it was never a dive. VAR corrected him of course.

DeleteComplete video penalty incident
Interesting ref :)
DeleteWell, with VAR in use, it is very difficult to assess such decisions by referee, basically it is more than good that they officiate as before (this is a perfect case), but then being so blatant in reproaching players can cost an extremely poor impression when VAR intervenes for correcting. I would say that nowadays a referee should decide before VAR but then he must try to be as more discrete as possible... or maybe he can do that, but only after the confirmation by VAR of his original decision!
DeleteYeah, I understand that he couldn't see it live. But it's quite hilarious actually how he uses his gestures while he is wrong in the end.
DeleteI really hope he apologized to the player live.
DeleteI really hope he apologized to the player because blatantly put the player to disrepute there which is equivalent to telling a referee he is a cheat and corrupt!!!
DeleteWill Adidas 22 kits be used in upcoming WCQ games?
ReplyDeleteIn Japanese league they are already in use.
Danny Makkelie with a very good performance in the Dutch clash between Ajax and Feyenoord! Crucial match involving the title and full control all over. And IMO a phenomenal 2nd YC decision for goal scorer Antony!!
ReplyDeletehttps://files.fm/f/k5c8rjq9e
In my opinion a good management by Makkelie of a rather unexpected situation, if I understand correctly, he booked the player because he deliberately re-entered the pitch when he was injured and already out, in order to waste time.
DeleteYes, that’s what happened. He fell down injured outside the field of play and, encouraged by the Ajax staff and Tadic, stumbled back inside to waste time.
DeleteHe did manage that situation well, although I think he forgot to add more time, because the whole scene took at least 2 minutes.
DeleteI also wonder what the opinions are on this situation: https://twitter.com/bozekameraden/status/1505570604929409024?s=24. For me it's clear foul by the Ajax player and therefore should have been a penalty. Ball is no longer within his reach and he goes in with a lot of force, blocking the Feyenoord player. Clear and obvious as well if you ask me, so if Makkelie didn't spot it live, VAR should have intervened.
Not a clear situation to me, after having rewatched I think I can understand why not VAR intervention. See the right leg of Feyenoord player, there is a contact with opponent that could have been assessed as foul exactly in the same time of the action by Ajax player. I think this can't be stuff for VAR because the contact is not exclusively from one side.
DeleteFIY team Makkelie (And var) is followed by ESPN with access to their audio the whole match. It will be shown on Youtube on Wednesday. I will share a link to it then. Interesting!
DeleteNice Hans.
DeleteIndeed, Makkelie had full control in a not-so easy game. The high fysical line he applied contributed to a very attractive and open character of the game. I enjoyed it a lot.
I liked the play-on decision in situation shared by Marko23, as the Amsterdam side had possession of the ball and the ball was already cleared before the collision. The Feyenoord player would never be able to reach the ball. However, you can read it as an obstruction (according the book), but in terms of 'the bigger picture', context and high fysical line that was applied in this game, I liked this no-PK decision.
I must say, Makkelie is having a great season so far. Managing and feeling the games very well. Moreover I haven't seen any 'soft' penalty kicks since the ENG-DEN game, which led to many criticism in media (also in the Netherlands). He must have a great mental strength. Awesome recovery... IMO that deserves a big compliment as well.
IMO this is a blatant penalty and YC
DeleteIf impeding offences returned to being IFK offences as they were before the LotG re-write in 1997, I'm convinced that referees would stop turning a blind eye to them!
DeleteWhen UEFA assesses 41' from EURO's SWEUKR as "clear play on", then you can't blame Makkelie or which ever referee for not penalising it. The new guidelines try to remove this foul completely from CL/EL games, too.
@ Mikael W, of course you CAN and you SHOULD blame such referees. Any referee should manage their games ONLY according to the LotG and not according to some dubious guidings by some committees or even more so by UEFA itself. The only legimate body in regard to the football rules is IFAB. If a referee chooses to follow other orders, they should take all the blame when they mess up, because football people and fans practice/watch football in accordance with the LotG, not in accordance with Rosetti, Ceferin or any other functioner.
Delete@ Anonymous:
DeleteYou don't have to scream :))
I guess you are the some person who wrote numerous times that ‘refereeing’ has been killed by Rosetti / FIFA and their modern approach.
You care about missed Yellow Cards. Nowadays football lovers do not. I’m on the side of the modern refereeing. I like games to be fluent and fast. I want the obvious clear-cut fouls to be called; not the contacts or a soft brush. I don’t like referees to micromanage games with the Laws book in the hands or issuing loads of unnecessary cards.
Unknown, it is really funny how you speak by the name of "nowadays football lovers". Actually I am a nowadays football player and lover, and I can tell you that most of my colleagues look at referees like some kind of clawns and football parasites, because most of the referee haven't got even a basic football understanding.
DeleteGood/expected performance by Martínez Munuera in Clásico at HT.
ReplyDeleteMy only complain, I'd have liked to see Vinicius booked for one of the worst PK simulations I've ever seen, Martínez Munuera played on.
Also, missed YC for Aubameyang. Good performance apart from that, and wonderful advantage before Vinicius' simulation (which I agree, clear YC).
DeleteI think he should've booked Aubameyang as well, in 11' for a reckless challenge with studs on Kroos.
DeleteOtherwise I agree, satisfying display and good control in a dynamic game.
Good control, but missed 3 YCs (Aubameyang - 11' - reckless, Pedri 36' - LoR/SPA, Vinicius - simulation).
DeleteBarcelona fourth goal: I'm really sad that players don't know that a raised flag doesn't mean anything. The game is stopped only with referee's whistle. Having said that, poor mistake by AR1, who had in all cases to delay his call.
Delete@ Quilava, apart from the three blatant YC missed (which were mentioned above), there was also a shocking challenge by Eder Militao in the first seconds of the game which could easily be a straight RC and he wasn't booked at all. Also Martinez Munuear was surrounded and attacked quite seriously several times by both sets of players for missed fouls and cards - he again didn't do anything for such blatant dissents. After all these incidents, if you still call it a good performance, I cannot imagine what would be a bad performance for you. If we all do not demand more from a referee soon this profession would be available to all kinds of idiots.
DeleteAhahah, Anonymous 10:48 is one of the rare lotg purists left. Most “football people and fans” detest the referees who handle their games with the book in hand. They want fluent games and just consider the refereeing in the bigger picture. They’re not busy with every “missed” yc or “missed” foul according to the letter of the book.
Delete@ Anonymous 10:02:
DeleteI guess you are the same person who wrote numerous times that ‘refereeing’ has been killed by Rosetti / FIFA and their modern approach.
I’m on the side of the modern refereeing. I like games to be fluent and fast. I want the obvious clear-cut fouls to be called; not the contacts or a soft brush. I like strong and natural authorities. I also like dissent to be punished because it ruins the game. I don’t like referees to micromanage games with the Laws book in the hands or issuing loads of unnecessary cards.
@Unknown, I see you think that all the "Anonymous" are the same person. I can tell you for sure that most of the Anonymous are the regular reeders of the blog when they want to express their disapproval but just don't want to enter in direct conflict with their collegues and that's why they don't use their blog profiles.
DeleteAs for me, I can tell you that I always write under my nickname.
DeleteBut, on the contrary, it looks like it's the same person who praises 'modern refereeing' or rather quasi-refereeing and writes the same phrases about 'micromanaging games with Laws book in the hands', 'not whistling every fart/soft brush', etc. under several posts.
I would like to ask: why are you so determined to defend this UEFA stupid strategy here that you post the same phrases and even falsely accuses people that they are the same person? What is your agenda?
Possible RC at Boavista x FC Porto. Artur Soares Dias gave an YC but the VAR (João Pinheiro) called for an OFR. Artur Soares Dias didn't change the decision after the OFR, YC for Mbemba.
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/7viv7j
Correct decision by Soares Dias IMO, as the opponent moved his leg outward and Mbemba tried to minimize the impact as soon as he recognized he would step on opponent’s ankle. Rather unfortunate and no excessive force, clearly endangering opponent.
Delete+1 - very good decision by Soares Dias, especially after the angles it seems(?) that Pinheiro showed him at the OFR.
DeleteFor me it's a RC. Endangering the opponent. But it's always hard to assess the force in a challenge in a video, so probably Dias had a better feel for it on the pitch. Point of contact says RC for me.
DeleteFor me it's a RC too.
DeleteIt was said today that Mike Dean will retire at the end of the season. He might get an FA cup final? Probably, FA cup Final referees are selected from refreess who officiate in the quarter final with Craig Pawson happen to be the most expected choice but Mike Dean retiring and the only ‘’1 cup final for a referee rule’’ broken by Taylor and Oliver he might just get it this year to end his long service.
ReplyDeleteIf Mike Dean is retiring surely Atkinson, Marriner and Scott will as well??
DeleteSome situations from one of the most challenging matches seen in a while: FC Arges - FCSB 2-3 (Romanian Liga 1).
ReplyDeleteRef: Horia Mladinovici (38 yrs old)
Min 34' (0-0) - Missed penalty for FC Arges (handball)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9jOpLWXq7M
Min 41' (0-1) - Correct penalty for FC Arges but possible offensive foul missed in the build-up (1:51 in the video):
https://youtu.be/QJYseW7XHLM?t=89
Min 54' (1-1) - Penalty for FCSB, no YC:
https://youtu.be/nB3ABhawtzY?t=485
Min 67' (1-2) - Potential RC for FC Arges missed (intentional hitting the opponent).
https://youtu.be/nB3ABhawtzY?t=589
Min 68' - Mass confrontation immediately after the previous situation, 2YC and 1RC awarded:
https://youtu.be/1rt2KR4bz7k?t=51
Min 71' (1-2) - Possibly incorrect penalty for the home team:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDUxOCuycP8
Min 73' (2-2) - Missed penalty for FCSB (foul):
https://youtu.be/itrEGljg8C8?t=1625
The general consensus of the local media was one of the most catastrophical refereeing performances in a long time. Mladinovici made several other 'smaller' mistakes, 2-3 YC missed for the home players for barbaric fouls, poor management of the added time (only 4 minutes in the 2nd half) and complete lack of authority in the last 25-30 minutes of the game.
Prediction
ReplyDeletePATH C
-Portugal - Turkey: Siebert
-Italy - North Macedonia: Turpin
-Final: Taylor
PATH B
-Sweden - Czech Republic: no idea :)) Perhaps Marciniak or Vincic
-Final: Orsato
Prediction for the PATH A final in June would be Makkelie.
Committee member for Cheryl Foster (WAL) in Turin, it looks like she has the opportunity to convince the committee for a EURO call, even more after the forced retirement of Pustovoitova. Indeed in my opinion she was among the candidates, but not 100% sure like other colleagues.
ReplyDeletePustovoitova retired?!
DeleteI meant due to Russian facts, she had to "retire" from EURO selection!
DeleteIs UEFA preparing multinational trios for the Women's Euro or is it just a coincidence?
DeleteI think all Russian refs can be considered as retired(
Delete50' OFR in Real - Barcelona: penalty whistled for a careless challenge, knee hitting attacker, live it looked like a very soft contact, not worthy of penalty, a close replay says that you can surely give it, but I'm not still 100% sure about VAR stuff. I don't have the perception of something blatant and extremely clear.
ReplyDeleteMaybe assessing it as reckless with YC would have enforced this call.
I can't give big responsibilities to referee for having missed it live.
Juventus - Lyon:
ReplyDeletehttps://streamja.com/k2XOA
Straight RC for DOGSO confirmed by VAR. I think it can be supported, but expected decision here nowadays is always YC, considering the position, very far away from the goal, and the possible intervention of the other defender, not 100% out.
An "old school" decision in this case for me, not wrong though.
For me I feel it’s more of a red card, how I judge my DOGSO in cases like this because distance to goal is a very subjective call as the laws of the game do not give in meters the distance one can call a very clear OGSO, I usually first state that it’s from a corner and the attacking player has crossed his/her halfway line I am usually inclined for a red especially as there is no player in sight, then if it’s not from corner like the one above I take into account the distance from the Penalty area and players . Finally thank you Chefren, I saw there was a red card but couldn’t find a video so I said to myself Chefren would have posted it and voila I wasn’t wrong. Thank you for all you do.
DeleteWas the ball out of play for the second goal ?
ReplyDeletehttps://ibb.co/t2JxPGC
DeleteThis is the only angle from which the ball appears to be out, but I think we can easily argue that it was not fully out. VAR checked.
did the gk have ball control or did she drop it? very tough to assess i would say. a "clever" whistle maybe optional to avoid controversies about a potential offensive foul?
DeleteYes indeed, I agree with you. For me no foul is brave decision because it goes against the "wrong" overprotection of keepers in modern football, a whistle would have been only a way to keep away from troubles. It is not clear how much attacker disturbs keeper before she loses ball. In my opinion it can be normal contact of play. Ok by VAR to support.
DeleteAfter watching the game I think Foster has done enough to make the cut for selection in Euro's...
