  1. Interesting situation in the Hoffenheim vs Mainz match, both players pulling the shirts of each other, referee Schlager issued a red card to Mainz defender. If its a foul then of course its DOGSO, red card and penalty. But seeing it several times I doubt it cause again attacker also was pulling the shirt of defender. VAR (Welz) supported red card decision.

    1. I think, it's technically correct, because the defender is pulling/holding first and only stops in the penalty area, which means that is has to be a penalty. The fact, that the attacker is also holding at some point is not really relevant according to the LotG and its current interpretation.
However it's an interesting situation and worth discussing, whether this should be changed.

    2. I haven’t seen the video but most Elite referees decide to play-on when it’s a holding from two sides.
If I remember correctly there, even is a specific gesture / body language to communicate when it’s a a two-sided duel

  2. Bayern Munich vs Stuttgart. Referee Christian Dingert
Penalty given after an OFR for stamping on the foot. It seems not only in European matches but even in National Championships every stamp on the foot won't be tolerated without punishment.

    1. While again I think this is a soft call (because hardly reckless), if you intend to compare this situation with the Virgil situation in Napoli-Liverpool is disagree with you again. Here De Ligt makes a CLEAR action, and is too late with his action, while Virgil did not make any action but just has to put his foot on the ground while running.

  3. Hi. what do you think about this position? Red card True or Not?

  4. Some big calls in Sampdoria-Milan by Fabbri including tight offside, second YC for bicycle kick hitting the head of defender, penalty to milan for handball aswell as touchline drama at end with what I think had 2 RC’s

  5. how can the 4th official and UEFA Referee Liaison Officer be the same person

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Liaisons Officer makes sure all is organised and the referee and his assistants are well supported. Why could the 4th official not do this role too? He's from The Netherlands.

    2. In most matches the liaison and 4th official are the same. In case not: I assume the person has no time or no driving license? :)

      Delete
    3. Nonsense in this type of match the 4 official will do both jobs
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this as this can help the team of officials get to know each at this level—-m

    1. 69' More simulation than penalty but most likely correct no VAR intervention as initially there is slight holding

86' Penalty to be given, I would also like VAR intervention to have a uniform approach regarding such incidents.

90' Clear reckless tackle, 2YC to be issued.

90+1' Very difficult to send a player off for this when you touched him first. Of course, normal action by the referee and clear disrespect towards referee shown by the player. But you know - if the referee sends him off, media and fans will start their "hey, but the ref touched him first, so he is entitled to do that and the player is not?!".

      Delete
    2. Well, I have to be frank and say that this complete scene in 90+1' is disgusting for me. The whole attitude of certain players towards referees, managers, even teammates has really gone too far. This is nothing but a normal action by the referee, as Euro Soccer Ref correctly stated. Of course, if the player wanted to protect his personal space and/or doesn't want to be touched, there are more than enough ways to communicate it in a respectful manner (assertive without being aggressive) and I'm sure any referee would respect that, or be deemed accountable if they don't.

However, and Euro Soccer Ref is again fully correct, if you send a player off in this particular situation, you immediately become some sort of a condescending bully and the player becomes a victim. And I am also pretty sure that the player was fully aware of that and doesn't even realise that he was wrong here, just because of the almost non-existent boundary on this type of behaviour by the so-called "stars" these days.

Sorry for some stronger statements, but this was fully unnecessary, hugely disrespectful and is the most usual way in which any stupid fight starts: a hothead with complete disregard for anything other than himself.

  7. Chefren have you seen Ayroldi JR yesterday? What do you think about him? What about OFR revoking RC

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes I saw the game, Ayroldi had a good game, unless the red card incident. He is a very good referee, but sometimes he has this attitude to make extremely quick decisions based on his IMMEDIATE perception, without elaborating too much the incident. This could be described as great skill, because it confirms that referee doesn't have any problem in taking every possible decision, even if unpopular, but sometimes this can bring to big troubles. He did something similar in his serie A debut, when he issued a RC for DOGSO being very far away from the incident, in a hurry way, then VAR intervened. He has a big will to take decisions in any way and that's what one can like. About yesterday, the context of the game and the incident suggested not more than YC, people were astonished by that RC...

      Delete
    2. The RC issued by Ayroldi is never a clear and obvious mistake... An opponent in the field of view, leading arm, clenched fist are big arguments for sending off.

  8. Lengthy VAR check in Bologna-Florentina for 2-1 goal, it looked like it was going to overturned for a foul in the buildup but even after it said check over on the screen it was another minute until Orsato confirmed the goal, thought it was rather strange how long it took them once the check had been complete
