  1. Be the worst referee at the tournament, miss two stick-on red cards in your second game but award four penalties to Italy in the first: and you will get a semifinal! :)

  3. Not strictly about Yael Falcón (ARG) but an observation about guest referees in UEFA and CONMEBOL games so far.
If I'm not wrong, it never happened that an invited referee ended the experience after group stage (please correct me if you remember an example), so the choice of the Argentinian for a semifinal could have been expected, but... I think that if UEFA and CONMEBOL go in this way, they will continue to make appointments based rather on courtesy (guest referee) than real merit. The technical assessment would be obliged to have a secondary role, and that's something I don't like. I can easily imagine somebody afraid of sending home a guest after a poor performance just because he is from another confederation. A management that I don't like, because this doesn't help. Hopefully in case of very poor performances by guests (this is valid for both UEFA and CONMEBOL, to be clear) the heads will have the courage to stop the referee after group stage, if needed...
All about that can belong to the modern era of "politically correct"...

    1. Yes, especially if there are only 3 KO games like in this tournament.
However in this specific case, Falcon just did an U20WC semifinal (probably making him a candidate for 2026), so he should be clearly above the other referees at the tournament regarding their standing on the "career ladder".
BTW I assume, that on the other hand, a guest could never get the final, even if he is the best performer at the tournament.

  5. Why ARs and FO are not from the same country in the second semifinal (as in all other matches)?

  7. I try to write down a recap of the UEFA - CONMEBOL refereeing exchange, in case of miss, you can add the information, thanks.

Fernando Rapallini (ARG) UEFA EURO 2020 ROUND OF 16
Jesús Gil Manzano (ESP) COPA AMERICA 2021 QUARTERFINAL
Emikar Calderas (VEN) UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2022 GROUP STAGE
Maria Marotta (ITA) Copa Libertadores Femenina 2022 SEMIFINAL
Anahí Fernández (URU) UEFA WOMEN'S UNDER 17 2023 SEMIFINAL
Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi (ITA) Sub 20 Femenina 2023 FINAL STAGE
Sandra Braz Bastos (POR) Copa America Femenina 2022 GROUP STAGE
Yael Falcón (ARG) UEFA EURO UNDER 19 2023 SEMIFINAL
António Nobre (POR) Sudamericano 2023 UNDER 20 FINAL ROUND
Simone Sozza (ITA) Sudamericano 2023 UNDER 17 FINAL ROUND

    This should be the list.
We have the following countries represented by referees:

    UEFA in COMEBOL
    Italy (3)
    Portugal (2)
    Spain (1)

    CONMEBOL in UEFA
    Argentina (2)
    Uruguay (1)
    Venezuela (1)

One should add some VAR from Spain who attended Copa America with Gil Manzano, but we had by far more UEFA officials travelling to South America, than the contrary.
Furthermore, some referees attended the courses by UEFA or CONMEBOL, without officiating at tournaments, like Luis Godinho (POR).
To be mentioned as well the appointments for Finalissima, both Men's and Women's with some mixed crews, but I don't list them as real exchanges, because single games and officials from both confederations.

Maybe we will have better replays but questionable decision, how much open is arm and how much innatural the movement?
