  3. Stuart Attwell with Rocchi, previously Rocchi with Gillett? What do you think? Is it normal assignment for Rocchi if I’m not mistaken 2 ENG referees in a row.

  7. Albanian VAR, but not Swedish VAR?

    1. Indeed there is no VAR in Sweden, however I am pretty sure Ekberg worked as VAR for Al-Hakim in a UNL game last summer, but maybe that was just a one-off

    2. Romania uses VAR, so why not Romanian VARs with Romanian refs?

      Delete
    3. As I said quite often, some choices about the nationality of VARs are really strange and there aren't explanations.
On a collateral note, the development of Nyberg, coming from a country still without VAR, is even more important, because he could have faced troubles for that.

  8. VAR should be changed or abolished in my opinion.

Why not use it this way:
    - Each team has 1 VAR "Challenge" per game that the captain can request
    - The Referee can use VAR on his own initiative to make a decision in potential red card situations

    1. Challenges wouldn't work that well in football imo considering it's much more subjective than other sports

  10. 75' I'd say a supportable penalty awarded by England. There was contact, but was it a trip or did the attacker find the defender? Hard to tell from the angles but seems right for the VAR to support. Good to not award a penalty for a non-punishable handling seconds before.
On a seperate note, amusing that there is VAR but doesn't seem to be any vanishing spray in this game

  11. OT:

Wow,what an ending to Wilmar Roldan's match.

Deportes and Corinthians are playing, hosts are chasing result and COR scores a goal, dagger as some would say.

Then goalscorer takes off his jersey, provokes players and crowd and some players lost it.
Even police had to protect COR players from fans and players.

Result of that altercation:5 RC's,but I have to praise Roldan for his calmness and his leadership in this very tricky situation.

No panic at all, sure in himself and that's why he is so long one of the best refs in CONMEBOL.

  13. Correct early PK by Smajc in Ferencváros - KÍ.

The Faroes are ahead, the game took a very interesting turn...

  14. Easy enough game for Attwell. Only incident of note was a possible penalty in first half additional time, but the attackers head was low, unsure if clear contact with the boot, and that appeared to be after the ball had gone out anyroad. Only yellow was to the bench near the end of the match, not sure why as there was very little for Attwell to do so not sure what anyone could complain about. I like Attwell and think he is probably the one English official that deserves a chance in some bigger games
