I think he will get the chance to rise quickly, cause Rosetti is not convinced by Siebert, Zwayer and would be happy to develope a new German Nr. 1 during next years to be ready to officiate in 2025 CL and in 2026 WC. Early to make predictions, but he will get the chances he needs - and might be in a race for that ag. Osmers.

If Jablonski had waited, the game gave him a perfect opening caution for really blatant SPA holding, but instead he pulled the trigger on a deliberate foul from behind on the lesser side of the careless-reckless borderline a couple of minutes prior. I can understand why he wanted to make a point after the pretty foul-laden start to the match though.
ReplyDeletePortugal start to put the German under pressure: well-seen PAI play on after a challenge by the Italian goalkeeper at 28’, he played the ball fairly and the attacker feigned injury trying to influence an unimpressed Jablonski.
DeleteJablonski is doing okay but I think he can feel his grip on match control / acceptance waning and is having to fight quite hard to stay on top - the final of four first half bookings was a rather bogus one (SPA careless tripping on a player running away from goal on the edge of the box), often protests by players and some decisions trying to keep control which only inflame them further (eg. killing the game at 32' and not playing advantage there).
DeleteThree very blatant Portuguese dissents in a row (52’, 54’ and now 57’), all ignored. In the last scene one Italian player was annoyed at a ‘protester’ and a conflict nearly ensued between them.

I thought that a confrontation was likely in the 2H and Jablonski was lucky as the moment for it to come was +94' - Italy no.13 screamed very unsportingly and provocatively at Portugal no.7 but, contrary to expectations, the Portuguese player acted in a very sporting (or perhaps more accurately, resigned) manner and didn't retaliate. After a very late foul at +95' -- where Jablonski should have issued a booking having playing advantage -- probably another flashpoint was possible, but everything remained tranquil enough.
The 'German referee not really ready for Mediterranean clash' story is maybe a slightly cheap shot at Jablonski, but I think this match revealed fairly significant areas of development for him. Still, it is a youth tournament which constitutes a learning experience for both players and officials, and overall as referee Sven Jablonski delivered the final (no KMI trouble and match control ensured) in a way which should satisfy UEFA and Björn Kuipers.

Yep,missed clear YC at the end for late foul,but rest of the are alright.
But what he lacked and he was not prepared well enough are those verbal flashpoints,too much complaining being allowed and he can only be lucky that Por players were not more upset or frustrated like in previous years .
Looks like that has been and will be the problem for German officials.
You dont see that type of pressure on ref and complaints in Bundesliga.Temperamentaly wise they are not so hot like Italian,Spanish ir Portuguese so when that situation happens in the match they really dont know how to solve it,they dont have that consistency .
Zwayer,Siebert,Stieler,Steggemann,even Brych have struggled in the past with that Latin mentality so that's nothing new.
Either way,we can describe this performance in 2 words:

My friends... the refereeing in Brazil is a chaos.

DeleteHe has that style that is close to European and last couple of years I think hr is one of the best.
Of course,Klaus and Sampaio are pretty high too,but from personald standpoint,Machado is my favourite.
I dont get it why Daronco is given so much trust.
He reminds me of Doveri in Italy-both get big matches,show cards when someone is killed and would rather forgive than punish.
Same goes for Goncalves Lima in Brasil.

When I see that they are in charge,I just know what will happen.
I watched this game more to see what the atmosphere was like rather than watching Pereira Sampaio, but I must say I was deeply unimpressed. Just hands out yellow cards, not that they were wrong but still not really trying to manage the game in any meaningful way. Also looked very unimpressed by the OFRs but still followed them. Regarding the KMIs:

I would say correct OFR again even though better angles would've been preferred. When you look from the angle behind the dugout you can see a push in the back that makes the Flamengo player able to head the ball forward unchallenged.

Wrong OFR. I think a red card maybe could be supported if given on the field but never VAR stuff if not given. There is absoultely force in the tackle but there is no studs showing and I don't see a scissor either.

DeleteBut VAR can't intervene for that.
So they went for mistaken identity and changed the YC to another defender, who at least made contact, but also didn't commit a foul.
The VAR intervention would be correct, if indeed Martinez confused the two players and wanted to caution the player, who made the contact. But in the context of the situations this seems quite doubtful.
So more likely, they prevented a wrong 2ndYC with a wrong VAR intervention.
It was confusing and did not look good in a continental final. If red cards are reviewable, second yellow cards leading to red (same outcome) should also be reviewable.

ReplyDeleteAbout disallowed goal, in my opinion it can be extremely tight offside maybe with the tip of the foot, but impossible to be sure. In such case no blame for AR, but expected decision without VAR is NO FLAG.
DeleteThe goalkeeper takes a risk in the first case more than second incident. Still to me not clear whether he slightly touched ball before, but penalty could have been easily whistled by referee. Second incident, quite risky but at least we see he got ball.
It seems he touches the boot rather than ball, penalty could have been whistled.

ReplyDeleteWell, after Said Belqola (technical/tactical approach) and Gamal Al-Ghandour (soft skills) it seems that Africa might again now have an official who could actually be able to savour trust from FIFA on quite a high level - Dahane Beida from Mauritania.
ReplyDeleteIf he can learn English to the level that he spoke (probably Arabic?) to the players, improve his lost time compensation considerably and foul recognition a bit, and finally show as secure an impression on the top world stage as he did refereeing the second leg of the 'African Europa League' final a few weeks ago: then CAF can after >20yrs provide a ref who can compete with Europe and the Americas at the World Cup.

Some interesting incidents to discuss there, imo. I would invite FIFA to call up Dahane Beida again -- having appointed him previously as a reserve official at the Tokyo Olympics -- and take the Mauritanian ref to the upcoming U17s World Cup in Indonesia.
