  1. So the appointment for ISR-SUI must have been changed, because Taylor also had CRO-TÜR on MD7.

    1. Seems so, but it's also expected considering the game becomes more important now

    1. Just because he's currently not a premier league ref well ised as one. hes a fifa registered referee so can be appointed

    2. But if Taylor goes down that is a huge game for someone who has refereed one championship game in the past 2 months

  3. Reckless or even SFP challenge for Kruzliak’s opening caution at 23’? Terrible pitch in Pristina and slightly tetchy match so far for the Slovakian.

    1. Potential SYC for Israel no.12 who committed a step on foot foul (62’) having already been booked. Generally good performance by Kruzliak so far.

    2. 23' is 50/50 borderline IMO. Both decisions would be supportable, but given the context Yellow seems a bit better.
In 62' I prefer no card, because it is quite accidental due to the rather unexpected long step by the opponent, therefore more careless than reckless - also no high intensity.

    3. This player, Revivo, has now been sent off (+94’) for a SYC for SPA. Imo he is a bit unlucky - the attacker stopped deliberately in order that the Israeli would crash into him unable to change his momentum to win a freekick. I think Kruzliak actually wanted to play on but the linesman Pozor flagged the foul and probably gave his team leader no choice but to send off Revivo at that point. VAR even checked for DOGSO, the Kosovo attacker appealed for it too, but I don’t think a RC would have been appropriate.

I’m sure Vassaras will accept the dismissal and it should be a good mark for the Slovakian crew, Kruzliak showing a good performance with his usual style of refereeing. I’ll upload some clips soon.

    4. It seems there are big problems to get a full match record for this rearranged game; that's a pity as there were some interesting situations to assess. In any case, a clip of the late SYC is below:

    5. Indeed it was not aired here, I think that some broadcaster even "forgot" about this one. Thanks for the clip.

    6. Fully agree with you, not a crystal clear YC, but it can be given and supported. As you described.

    7. Supportable foul decision but very clear yellow card if whistled.

    1. Thans, at first let me say absolutely unacceptable to play a football game on a pitch with such conditions!
Then, coming into the incidents, in 22' for me very borderline to RC, a VAR intervention wouldn't have ben wrong, but I think one can still believe player was rather unlucky and given the circumstance I wouldn't assess YC as clear and obvious mistake, but sure, no card would have been huge mistake there. In 62' YC was possible, but what I see is that Kosovo player definitely puts his leg under opponent's studs. Of course this can't allow / explain everything, but still how much fault you can give to Israeli player? Then, as already discussed, the supportable second YC for him came at the end of the game. All in all, if we analyze the full management of the player involved, we can say that he was rather lucky to be still on the pitch until a few minutes to the end, but one can also understand referee's choices.

About Zahavi: in 50' we have definitely a missed YC for reckless challenge, but how much force? Yes it is not so much important given the quite reckless action, but I see opponent making it a bit bigger than it really was. For me best decision still YC, but maybe not 100% for all. To follow, also in the second incident I can see that this contact happens in a rather unexpected way. Kosovo player already trying to kick ball and then in my opinion opponent just walking without particular / dangerous action, can be careless, but mostly in these situations the fouls are even difficult to spot. Rough game, but it seems as Kruzliak did quite well, based on these clips.

  5. Not the best game Kruzliak. Last match CL not Elite level. And now the same impression. That’s my personal opinion

    1. If I see these your comments you must be super biased against him. Six or seven comments in different posts and always the same. Same words, same phrases, same language.

My opinion about these situation is the same as Michael's and Chefren's: maybe some points for discussion but supportable decisions.

    2. Absolutely not. I only give my opinion. Please look at the clips: clear 2/3 yellow cards are not given. Look the last red card CL, no red card. If it is good it is good. At this moment Kruzliak not good

  8. Taylor just rightly disallowed a Switzerland goal for a push at 20’. Defender had the better position and only by fouling him could the attacker head the ball.

    1. Israel appealed very heavily for a penalty in first half additional time (indeed quite clearly mobbing Taylor with multiple players; no sanction) but a foul wasn’t committed. Englishman doing quite well so far in a not-easy game from what I’ve seen.

    3. Very very interesting handball PAI now as Israel appealed again vociferously for a spot kick (53’), this time there was a YC for mobbing. Attwell was checking for a significant period of time before giving the all clear. Look forward to posting the clip of this one!

    6. 20' maybe another (missed) foul before the one called by Taylor, when SUI gained the possession? For sure this double situation made things very easy for Attwell, nothing to hesitate about.
45'+1 Correct decision by Taylor - nothing to report here.
53' Extremely interesting incident, I remember Eriksson UEFA Europa League final when he had to assess similar situations. Well, weird position and movement by player, but arm is not in a natural position, so should be penalty, but I think VAR was unsure due to this strange movement. Should be penalty, nevertheless, and of course in Italy all people would expect it.
Still a long story between Taylor and the handballs :)

    2. Where was the ball played? Again anonymous comments that clearly come from biased fans, trying to butcher the referee…

      Delete
    3. The action can be deemed as reckless for the intensity of the challenge even if the main target is ball, but maybe this makes not a clear mistake the decision of Taylor to whistle without booking. Nevertheless, the expected decision here is YC in my opinion.

    4. No one trying to butcher him. He is one of my favorite referees but he made huge mistake..

    5. Not a yellow card for me. Got the ball and I think the defender didnt go through the man

  12. Well… that should be a clear deflection in the new interpretation and therefore offside right?

    ReplyDelete

    1. What a game in the end! Correct RC for SFP but I think Taylor can also be responsible for the attitude on the pitch heating up (eg. no action against very blatant DtR by Israel in +92’).

      Delete
    2. Was the offside position itself clear though?
We don't fully see the defender's leg and don't have the best angle in the best replay, so one would need some lines to be sure.
And Taylor not being sent to the OFR to evaluate it himself, could suggest, that it simply wasn't an offside position.

Otherwise, I also think, it's a deflection, but not that clear for me. One could argue, that the defender had a chance to control the ball here.

    3. indeed, onside position is possible.

  15. Tough game with big controversies in second half. I'm not sure about the handball, but according to the last years in UEFA, this should be whistled: expected ball, open arms.
Big mistake is the missing 2YC and the offside decision. This should never be interpreted as deliberate with the new rules.
RC is well seen and rightly given.

  17. What happens in substitutino incident?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Clearly a deflection before the offside, so it had to be punished, we saw many situations in serie A this season, all similar incidents were assessed as deflection, there must be something more even in terms of time for reaction for considering it deliberate play. It is an evident mistake by VAR.

Good red card decision at the end, clear SFP, excessive force, even without considering the possible point of contact, but the game was full of controversial situations in second half, as most of you wrote...

  19. Regarding Taylor, I’ve seen many Premier league KMI’s reported here this season and in both Croatia-Turkey and yesterday’s game, the referee and his management were responsible for the game turning into a ‘heated’ one.
However, let’s emphasize that it is completely understandable that Taylor’s form dropped after the Europa League final. Very tough circumstances to deal with, from a human and mental perspective.

What I don’t like is the not-so sensible appointment strategy by the Refcom. When a referee is recovering/searching for his form early season, maybe you should not give him very important or even decisive games for qualification.

Curious what will be his next game. I think one of the English referees will be assigned to Atlético Madrid. Taylor won’t be the best choice with Atlético’s dark arts at the moment, and once again, a very tight group with 3 teams are still in the running. But there aren’t many games available for Taylor, if they want to avoid him with Italian teams. Any idea where he could be assigned to?
Many referee observers for UCL week 5 have been released yesterday.

    1. I agree about the missing sensibility. Similar to what the spanish federation did with Mateu a few days after the famous ARGNED, referees (also top ones) must have times, in which there are not focussed on and can handle easier matches. But Taylor is in very low form and still assigned to top clashes in the premier league and decisive ones by UEFA, that is surely hard to handle.
Nevertheless, I don't think that ISRSUI must have been that hard and in the first half, Taylor was in full control, correctly sanctioning the dirty challenges and rightly disallowing a scored goal. I don't know, why he hesitated that much then, not giving a quite clear penalty (that he evidently saw) and not having the courage to issue a very clear and expected 2YC. Then the match boiled over and it is bad luck, that a difficult offside position happens and Taylor is let down by his VAR. But the heatening up could have been prevented, and that should also be expected from an elite referee in bad shape.

  20. All observers MD5 UCL are released except for Lazio-Celtic, Shakhtar-Antwerp and Bayern-Copenhagen. That’s interesting, the latter two games are suitable for a debut or category 1 and apparently cause more discussion than the most important games for qualifying :)
Vassaras is observing Arsenal’s game, Kuipers @ Sociedad.

    1. Sociedad might also be an option for a debut given the group situation, I think. Actually more than Shakhtar and Bayern, because there one team still fights for R16.
