Standard appointment for Çakir, another big game for him. Vincic with another excellent game, to be honest: I think he's already being treated like an Elite referee, I'd be more than surprised if he doesn't get the nod in January. He deserves it!
ReplyDeleteOn another note: very particular to see with Felix Zwayer an Elite referee acting as AAR. Also Grinfeld as AAR - having recently made his CL debut - looks a bit particular for me.
One can expect the Belgian appointment to be changed. Big scandal in Belgian football. Delférière and Vertenten arrested among others.
ReplyDeleteDo you have some details about what is happening?
DeleteAt this point no names are officially confirmed, but some top referees in the belgian league are being questioned. Big case concerning money laundering, fraud, possible matchfixing. Police is searching at clubs and talking to several high profile figures in the competition.

DeleteIt seems as Vertenten and Delferière have been arrested.
DeleteIt’s confirmed: they are both being questioned.
DeleteArrested or detained (brought to the hearing)?
DeleteIf I understand it well, they are being questioned and later today it'll be decided whether they will be arrested or not.
DeleteHonestly I can't believe that 2 FIFA referees are involved in something like this.
DeleteIn any case, my feeling is that UEFA will replace the Belgian team.
DeleteUPDATE 11/10 17:30
DeleteFollowing the case in Belgium.
Sébastien Delferiere has been released under conditions but is charged, indicted.
For Bart Vertenten, the judicial investigation is still ongoing.
The boss of Belgian referee Johan Verbist has just announced to the press that the 2 referee are suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
IIRC, Delferiere refereed a pretty strange match between Zenit SPB and Dynamo Minsk (Zenit won 8-1)...
Deletehttps://www.uefa.com/uefanationsleague/season=2019/matches/round=2000959/match=2024059/match-info/index.html?iv=true
ReplyDeleteDelferière has been removed. Waiting for the new referee appointed by UEFA.
It's Trattou (CYP) now.
DeleteShocking about Belgium. The last words in my report on Bart Vertenten just weeks ago were "future looks very bright for him"...
ReplyDeleteAn another note, very good signal for Fedayi San, in my opinion.
Surely, without replacing Schärer in PAOK-Olympiacos, UEFA would not have assigned the Suisse belonging to UEFA Third Category, a match in Nations League.
I know in Swiss media his performance was reported as "very good", did any of our Greek readers (Edward?) manage to watch the match?
This can be another example of a referee taking advantage of his moment of 'luck', for instance, surely without his (9,0ish, IMO) performance in 2016 Copa Final, Carlos Del Cerro Grande wouldn't be standing on the cusp of Elite like he is now.
Referee careers can turn on one match, in a positive way, as well as a negative like what is well-reported in the media.
I did watch the match Olympiakos - PAOK, Michael.
DeleteIndeed his performance was at least expected level. Match difficulty was surprising normal but the Swiss made a good impression regarding foul detection and match control. He was respected by players and technical staff and that helped him a lot.
The only minus was his positioning. He was often too close to play and IIRC he was hit by the ball a couple of times.
minute 20 clear missed red card for Oliver.
DeleteThey have been interrogated and after maximum 48 hours, there Will be a decision what whill happen. It’s a questionof match fixing. The trainer of Bruges stays in dungeon during this night. Tomorrowland there will be a further decision. Belgian football is shocked. Let’s hope that all becomes good, orherwise there’s a big problem.

ReplyDeleteHalf-time of the first half so to say. Nothing to report concerning Vinčič. First YC given just now, blatant dissent and a mandatory caution. Outside of the World Cup that is. ;)
ReplyDeleteOT from Stieler game, I post the incident here to give more visibility.
ReplyDeleteCrucial incident in 90'+5:
https://streamable.com/nohqa
I think there are reasons for both decisions. Not a clear 100% punishable handball, but one can whistle penalty because player had all the time to remove arm and avoid contact. As observer, I would back referee, but for sure very difficult... it is also important to underline that before hitting arm, ball hit also the body, this can be in favor of play-on because ball was unexpected. In any case, given all the circumstances and the minute in which the incident happened, well, this contributed to create a very difficult situation for the referee.
For me, quite clearly no penalty:
Deletea) The ball cannot be expected there, because it is deflected from the leg. b) The player moves his arm away from the ball and not towards it. c) Not even sure, that it touched the arm
Anyway, it seems, Stieler did not see the (potential) contact, because his view was blocked.
Solid performance from Vinčič in an average difficulty match. 6 YCs in the end, all of them correct or at the very least supportable. He wasn't in the centre of attention and that's what's it about, I think.
ReplyDeleteI think Trattou just booked an Andorran field player for throwing intentionally a ball to the pitch in order to distract the Georgian defender who was initiating the attack.
ReplyDeleteTrattou played on and after the ball went out, booked the Andorran player in a very strong and "agressive" manner, pointing out with his finger to the "Respect" banner on player's shirt sleeve (Gözübüyük vibes hahaha)
Desperately looking for a video, I think I should download the full game... :D
DeleteHere the video of straight RC issued in the last minutes of the game, in my opinion a fully correct decision by referee.

Missed PK from Çakir in NED-GER?
ReplyDeleteI think, the defender slightly played the ball, therefore rather no clear penalty - but still debatable (67').
DeleteMore like a dive. Did the defender even touch him?
DeleteImo it was penalty. The defender didn't touch the ball (but hard to see for Cakir) but he touched Ginter (who needed medical treatment)
DeleteThe Ginter situation is a second penalty appeal (82'). IMO again grey area. Yes, there is some contact, but not clear, whether it was the reason for the fall.
DeleteOverall, Cakir managed the game without cards (and none was missing) and solved some conflicts in the first half with words. Second half then was no problem regarding match control.
These were the penalty appeals:
Delete67' Tackle Van Dijk

81' Challenge Groenevelt
https://streamable.com/p1nj2
Thank you for the great clips, DutchRef. For me, the 81' incident with the challenge by Groenevelt is judged superbly by Cakir as a no foul. I think he managed a not-so-easy game very well this evening.
DeleteBoth situations are very difficult to judge, I think we must analyze the real contact between the players, in my opinion not 100% clear in both cases. Attacker falls, but one can't understand whether this happens for a clear foul by defender.
DeleteI would back Cakir, maybe the first incident more penalty than the second, but just based on my feeling. For sure, not clear.
Not convinced by Estrada, missed 2-3 YCs for my taste despite it being a tame game - his line was not very consistent in that regard. Open stud challenge by Hendrick (88') went without a card, it was an absolutely mandatory one.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Not his best game tonight. I've already seen him better.
DeleteIn my opinion, Cakir did not have a really good match. No real mistakes, but quite a lot of smaller mistakes in his judgement. Some very, very easy free kicks, for example. Also, he seemed a bit uninterested.
ReplyDeleteNot bad, 8,3 or so, but not pleassant to watch.
The same opinion here..... i was live at the stadium....some strange free kicks.... ans also his 1st assistent looked some moments quite unsure, i'm not sure but there was a moment in 2nd part off the game Ronald Koeman got angry on Cakir, everey unsure moment of Duran (1st assistent) looked to go in favour off the Germans.....
DeleteI don't know. Watching it on TV, it seemed as if both teams got some easy balls at times. However, I read that James thought it was 'brilliant.'
DeleteApperently we judge it differently. I didn't like his man-management too much. Of course, his verbal warnings are good. But too often, they were after debatable decisions.
no, I wasn't convinced.
Lovely officiating by classical Cakir. Fabolous man management technical punishments and no cautions. Brilliant. When it comes to the penalty area decision on 81st minute. Both feet on the ground and the contacts are reciprocal not enough for a penalty call.
ReplyDelete+1. Fully agree
