  1. Big appointment for Ekberg, given also that his promotion to Category 1 is quite recent (less than a year)... for sure he can replace on next months Eriksson in the Elite list.

    1. He should be the favourite for the next CL debut now.

Also a very good appointment for Gestranius there with a committee member - rather surprising, looking at previous appointments he did not seem to be in the top half of the First Group.

Otherwise no surprises, Marciniak might be watched regarding a potential final this season.

      Delete
    2. Ekbergs appointment is big if you look at other appointments. Most of the A league in nations league have elite referees appointed

    3. Ekberg is a referee that I rate highly. It's definitely a good signal for him.

About Gestranius. I think that he gained many points after his performance on PAOK-AEK. Being observed by Fandel could indicate a CL appointment on MD5-6.

  2. Four Polish referees in one round NL. Wow!

  3. KNVB has revealed Kuipers appointment for Tuesday, Republic of Ireland - Wales. For the rest, we must wait tomorrow.

    1. I would predict:
FRA-GER: Mazic (only Elite referee without appointment in NL so far)
UKR-CZE: de Sousa (no Portuguese appointed on MD3/4 so far)
      NOR-BUL: Aghayev
      SVN-CYP: Aranovsky
      KAZ-AND: Meckarovski
      LVA-GEO: Dankert
      ARM-MKD: Petrescu
      GIB-LIE: Kristoffersen

German AAR appointments indicate another team involved. Otherwise trying to split matches between many different countries.

    2. About de Sousa, I think he is injured? No appointments at all in this season, his last games were in Primeira Liga, last matchdays of 21017/18.

      Delete
    3. Strömbergsson appointed for Nations league on Tuesday according to the Swedish football association.

    4. Jorge Sousa is injured, will return in December.

    5. OK, then UKR-CZE should go to Hategan, wo I missed, when checking for Elite referees.

  5. In Belgium Bart Vertenten has been arrested due to match fixing. In two degradation matches he accorded twice a penalty. One of them fof a fault far outside the backarea. A football agent and members of KV Mechelen are accused too. Sebastien Delferiere is free but also accused. His report according an excluded player was falsified. Møre, together with a football manager he bought a car at lower price. Finally he received money from that manager fir his sport school. In Belgium we think it’s the end for both.

  6. Thank you for your report, I have downloaded the full game, but I think I have no time to watch it and to make a detailed report.
Maybe later on I will try to answer on some points.
To all readers, if you are interested in any of these situations, you can ask, I will post a video!

Bastien is back after an injury, must have been a small one, otherwise he would not have immediately received a game in L1. Turpin is appointed on Sunday, so CL on Tuesday is unlikely. I don't expect him at all this week there, on Wednesday there is not really a game that would fit him IMO.

  10. Yes in most of UEFA competitions group stages, including Europa League, only referee and AR1 must be FIFA. All the rest can be NO FIFA.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Correct first YC by Marciniak in Spain - England, I would say mandatory.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Good ONSIDE by AR2 before England's goal!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Too much leniency Gil's performance.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Is he allowed to book players? :)

      Delete
    2. Terrible performance by both Polish crews today...Clear penalty to Greece was denied by Gill and clear penalty to Spain was denied by Marciniak.....

      Delete
  14. Another good ONSIDE by AR2 for England's third goal.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I‘m watching Ekberg in Iceland-Switzerland. Not much to happened so far, but for me the Swedish missed a clear YC in 40’ for Zakaria for SPA. There were some protests by Icelandic players who seemed quite unhappy with Ekberg. We will see how the game goes on...

    ReplyDelete
  16. That should have been a PK and RC, IMO...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Minute 63': very likely a missed penalty by Marciniak and especially AAR2 who was there. Blatant holding by English keeper. Player would have easily scored.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Incredible mistake. Blatant holding!

      Delete
    2. unbelievable. It was clear penalty fr Spain just in front of AAR 2. Is this the same AAR like in Tottenham- Juventus ?

      Delete
    3. AAR was just 2 meters away!

      Delete
    4. Anyway, such a blatan holding should have been seen (also) by Marciniak ...

      Delete
    5. Lot of problems for Marciniak in detecting penalties last months and many crucial mistakes.

      Delete
    6. No, this time it was Zbigniew Dobrynin, no FIFA referee.
This is because many Polish FIFA officials are busy and have other assignments.

      Delete
    7. This is 3rd penalty not given by Marciniak this year: Tottenham- Juventus, Argentina- Iceland, Spain- England.

      Delete
    8. Better to mention Germany - Sweden instead of Argentina - Iceland, if we want to talk about CLEAR penalties...

      Delete
    9. I didn't say the word "clear" :) . I forgot about Germany- Sweden ...

      Delete
    10. In my opinion only penalty in Tottenham - Juventus was clear.

      Delete
    11. ... and many people here say that Marciniak is favourite for UEFA Cup final in 2019. Terrible 2018 for Marciniak.

      Delete
    12. but Marciniak still shows he's a great referee: 7 minutes of ET

      Delete
    13. Really? Look at the situation step by step:
      1. attackers foul (holding)
      2. Attackers folu number two (elbow on the face)
      3. Golkeapers foul (holding)

No penalty. FK for England for me.

      Delete
    14. @Chefren

Do you think it's normal that, in a game like this, Marciniak didn't have a FIFA AAR ? I'm not interested about other appointments but in a game like this you should send the best officials. Poland has 7 FIFA referees. Don't tell me that all of them had their own games in this midweek ...
I don't want to blame too much the AAR2 because Marciniak should have seen himself that blatant holding.

      Delete
    15. Is there a link to the incident to rewatch?

      Delete
    16. Incident you have not probably not seen yet from the game yesterday involving Ramos and Sterling. Looks like a stamp but little chance for the officials to see it https://twitter.com/twitter/statuses/1052034413012406272

      Delete
    17. And the video of the penalty incident.

      https://twitter.com/ffsgrexlish/status/1051930930754060288

Watching in live speed that's play on IMO, on the reply on the other hand, holding is quite clear. Anyway, it's a grey area, not a clear situation.

      Delete
  18. My subjective feeling

Most of the current elite (but also lower categories) referees are burnt out. Some of them handle too many games nowadays. Some of them are too experienced to be still motivated. In addition, some of them are simply too weak for real elite group and some are still not ready for the biggest games. Many referees are not able to cope with crises.

Extremely difficult, if not impossible, task for Rosetti this season and it's no surprise UEFA wants VAR to be implemented as soon as possible.

However, with VAR system, most referees look like zombies - no motivation, no alertness, the game is just another day in the work. Finally, in case of big mistakes, there is VAR who will help them. They can't find a fun in what they are doing!

Absolutely no-win situation at the moment and it's most likely the end of refereeing we have known for years. Bad times...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. About burn out, for example this season Marciniak already has done 15 games and Skomina 13 meanwhile Turpin only 8. Maybe some referees handle too many games...

      Delete
    2. That's it! Turpin is one of a few who is always fully focused, and motivated.

      Delete
    3. And some of them also officiate in Saudi Professional League now. Whose multiple trips between countries could be exhausting.

      Delete
    4. I think Rosetti came at an interesting time right when a large core of the elite referee group approaches later stages/retirement. I think he is now in a position to implement the new elite generation of referees for a decade to come. Collina had his group of favorites. Now it is up to Rosetti to breed a new core group. In all fairness, his CL appointments first 2 weeks have shown that he is exploring his options and giving newer refs a chance to prove themselves and reach that elite level. As of now, Turpin seems like the only younger ref with true potential yet i am sure more will follow when given the chance.

      Delete
  19. New names are needed for big matches. No more Skomina, Marciniak, Cakir, Mazic...Rosetti must give equal opportunities to refs from other federations to develop their skills by appointing them to big matches..The only promising elite ref at the moment for me is Turpin..WE need more like him...Kulbakov, Agayev, Grienfield, Treimanis, Oliver, Kruzliak, Madden, Ekberg, Kabakov, Mazeika..They deserve a chance..Motivation is everything in refereeing...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. We need Mazzoleni, Strömbergsson, Orsato, Göcek, Aydinus, Blom, etc...

      Delete
    2. IIRC, Aydinus is not FIFA referee anymore.

      Delete
    3. Aydinus has retired from Turkish league since 2016.

      Delete
    4. Aydinus is still officiating in Turkish League and imo he is the best...

      Delete
    5. Skomina, Marciniak, Cakir, Mazic are te problem and German, English, Spanish referees are not? Really? :)

      Delete
    6. If it's about motivation, Blom deserves a chance for years... After all this years, he still acts completely motivated. Also look at the way he supported Makkelie, through the years. As former elite referee, he was 4th official at an U21 match in the cold of Sweden.

      Delete
  20. Why do you against the big names ecperienced names like cakir mazic and skomina. They are at their highest level. Moreover they stil keep their badges form and sustainable standing in terms of man management and they all finis their games without overbooking.

  21. Mattias Gestranius, Bosnia-Herzegovina - Northern Ireland.

    Disciplinary Control (https://streamable.com/ahby2)
Crucial Decisions taken by ARs (https://streamable.com/zq0s2)

Performance around 8,3 area, despite one or the other crudités, Finnish referee had a convincing evening and whistled a good match.

I am interested to see how UEFA treat Gestranius after his positive work in the last weeks, maybe he could even attend CL this season, let's see.
