Good achievement for Madden; I'm regretted that Buquet didn't reach same recognition.
ReplyDeleteMassa, Ekberg, Jovanovic and Treimanis for their potential promotion
Í'm sorry to say this, but Buquet had an absolute nightmare last season in KO Stage (Getafe - Ajax), this was the best example of a referee who wasn't ready for such a game. You just can't afford that as Category 1 ref, so deservedly no appointment I think (he might be a good referee in France, but on European level I think he's actually overrated).
DeleteDoesn0't make sense to me Mauteu Lahoz in a already decided match; maybe, as said by some of you, he is kept in the fridge, away from the spotlight, for the CL final
ReplyDeleteWe will see about “decided” match ;)
Delete+ the first match was very challenging
DeleteNo Zwayer then. Maybe EURO is in trouble
ReplyDeleteor QF next round...
DeleteIMO Lahoz is the most powerful candidate for CL Final in Istanbul.
ReplyDeleteGreat appointment for Grinfeld. He really seems among top10 UEFA referees now. I think he might even be in for a UCL quarterfinal.
ReplyDeleteJovanovic appointment doesn't seem right for me. Wouldn't even consider him for this stage of the competition, given the bad season he's had, especially with the likes of Sidiropoulos, Kulbakov, Zwayer not present in this stage of the competition.
Bad season? Uefa doesnt think same as u ;)
DeleteI find your comment about Jovanović interesting because in my eyes his is perhaps the best example of an appointment on merit in this UEFA KO stage!
DeleteWhat metric do you use to quantify he's had a "bad season"? Three referees you mentioned would be deservedly out after subpar performances in their R32 games.
I've watched him in Real Madrid - Shakhtar, Netherlands - Mexico and Feyenoord - Wolfsberger AC. In all three matches I thought his foul detection was quite bad, with some very disputable penalty's as the best examples. In contact with players he looks very awkward or maybe even arrogant. No visible game management for me. And he just doesn't look like the best athlete to me. So all together, I just don't see a possible elite referee there but of course opinions on that can be different.
DeleteI agree with you that Sidiropoulos, Kulbakov, Zwayer have bad seasons as well. So for me, the fact that performance principle seems to apply to them is fine. My point would be that I don't see why Jovanovic has done any better than they did.
Best example for an appointment on merit for me would be Ekberg. I think he is very convincing in his presentation, manages his games very well, moves well. I would have liked Collum or Schärer or one of the upcoming Turkish referees here instead of Jovanovic.
Thanks for explaining your view - ironically, I would describe Ekberg and Jovanović in the exact reverse ways than you have.
DeleteI can't see how the Swede's performance in Pireas was anything other than "failing the test" to be honest, but indeed everyone can have their own view.
None of the candidates, which we considered doubtful for EURO appointed today - this should finally confirm, that they are out (e.g. Kulbakov, Sidiropoulos, Collum)
ReplyDeleteFurthermore no match again for Bastien, so he probably stays without any KO stage appointment this season.
And Marciniak still not appointed. There are not many European matches left until the EURO and he hasn't had much in this season - so maybe he also has to worry a bit regarding his participation? However still more likely that he is selected than not, I think.
I think Marciniak's participation in EURO may also depend on Karasev's performance today.
DeleteSkomina oh Skomina... Where are youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu?????
ReplyDeleteInjured, it seems.
DeleteI know, but Few month ahead is EURO. We can said it's his last International event (Maybe)
DeleteFun fact: Manchester United were also part of Brych's previous two EL KO stage matches (including the SF last August).
ReplyDeleteMadden, Ekberg, del Cerro and Mateu with rather decided games. It seems UEFA have appointed referees before first legs already.
ReplyDeleteBrych and Grinfeld with the best, still open duels. The game in Prague was very intense. I'm especially looking forward to see how Israeli will handle his game! The same can be said about Mateu in Shakhtar - Roma but here the result of the first leg makes it slightly different, however I still expect a challenging game for the Spaniard.
Btw, you can find highlights of referees performances in the first legs under respective post, attached to excellent notes made by uefa user :)
This would be my summary of first leg performances:
DeleteGözübüyük 7.8 (8.2)
Guida 8.3
Hațegan 8.3
Oliver 8.3
Raczkowski 7.9 (8.3)
Siebert 8.2
Soares Dias 8.0
Vinčič 8.2
In these close rounds (first and second legs in a week), unless extra-ordinary changes, referees for EL are always appointed before knowing first leg score.
DeleteDel Cerro is a very unlucky boy here :)
DeleteIt seems that Uefa/Rosetti this year likes to appoint Schottish referees for Ajax matches.....just a few weeks ago it was William Collum, and now they have Robert Madden, while Madden also had the game in CL group Mydtyilland-Ajax
ReplyDeleteAfter two EL group stages and one Cl group, this is the summary of the appointments:
ReplyDelete23 out of 27 Elite referees have been appointed: Skomina, Marciniak and Aytekin were out for injury or illness but I really can't understand why Bastien was never appointed nor in Cl and neither in 32 EL. Maybe it is a too harsh behavior versus the Frenchman who seems very good in his country.
Among Elite Kuipers got 3 matches, confirming his top quality. Most of them had 2 matches, while is quite strange that Orsato and Hategan had only one. Collum, Taylor and Oliver too but we now that it's due to travel restriction from U.K. for Covid.
Zwayer and Stiler (who are probably fighting for one place at Euro) got both only one match, even if Stieler in CL can have some advantages.
Concerning 1st class it's impressive that Ekberg got 3 matches like Kuipers. Probably this is the green light for his promotion.
Good situation IMO for Guida, Raczowski and Gozobuyuk which received two appointments, unexpected to me.
Delusion for Sanchez Martinez, Treimanis and Scharer with only one presence
I guess Orsato has been punished for its poor performance in CL Group Stage MU-PSG, where he decided not to give a RC for the headbutt. However, it was crazy to appoint him for a top clash in CL right after one month off because of Covid, he could barely run...
DeleteFor Hategan, we all know that ridicolous story
DeleteInteresting set of appointments, first of all I want to underline that Rosetti doesn't want to take any risk with Italan teams, so the appointments of Mateu Lahoz and Brych can be explained also by that. However, in case of Brych game, we are also talking about the most sonorous match of this round, so an Elite referee of high level was expected. This also gives the opportunity to understand how much important was this assignment for Vincic in first leg.
ReplyDeleteMateu Lahoz still in Europa League, but for sure he will get a CL game in quarterfinal when possible: at the same time del Cerro appointed for the important game in Greece means that he had a positive assessment after Porto - Juventus. What one can underline is that Gil Manzano (but this can be also due to the fact that there are three Spanish Elite referees) still doesn't find a good path in UEFA. One could have maybe read his name instead Del Cerro, but maybe another appointment for Gil Manzano will come.
Normal appointments for Massa and Ekberg, the latter is surely in a good position regarding a possible promotion, despite some mistakes in Olympiacos game, but the main path is consistent.
Jovanović seems to be a bit out from the spotlights after the very controversial game he had in Netherlands, but still trust by committee, the time to recover. Molde - Granada is the least sonorous game of this roumd, if you ask me.
Regular assignment for Grinfeld after Lazio - Bayern, I think Rosetti was overall satisfied and I'm glad to see Madden back after the troubles he had.
Not a good signal for Zwayer indeed, maybe the wrong penalty assigned didn't convince committee about a further appointment, I'm really sorry for him.
Treimanis is another disappointment, but this was quite expected after that blatant mistake, his season in KO stage is definitely over. I don't know if Kabakov on the other hand has chances to get another game, his recent performances have been a mix of very good decisions and some clear mistakes, but overall, one could say still better than the Latvian...
Bastien got a very harsh punishment by committee, it is very rare to see a referee skipping the whole round of a tournament, while one could have expected Buquet but I think committee decided to give priority to Letexier in order to make experience.
Marciniak will be back for European qualifiers and in my opinion after that an appointment in EL quarterfinal could follow, but maybe not more than that because committee will focus on referees who are already getting games and working on merits for the next assignments.
The punishment for Bastien is not harsh at all, but fully deserved. What he did in that UEL match in December 2020 no other referee did at this level. And it was not his first time, if you remember 2019. So, all in all, he removed himself from the ko stage.
DeleteI like Bastien, but, yes, I think his last match was very bad, with that unbelieveable penalty. I'm sorry for him, but possible demotion at the end of the season.

UEFA posted some clips in their RefNetwork. The most important ones:
ReplyDelete1) PSG-Barcelona (Taylor/Attwell): VAR intervention required after penalty kick execution, encroachment by a player directly involved in play after save by GK
2) Salzburg-Villarreal (Treimanis/van Boekel): correct VAR intervention and wrong YC after OFR, should've been a RC for violent conduct
3) Crvena zvezda-Milan (Sidiropoulos): wrong penalty kick
As expected.
DeleteCompletely agree
DeleteIncredible errors by Tremanis and Sidiropoilis
DeleteIt's over for Marcianiak, I think he won't get a match in Uefa this season
ReplyDeleteI see you are Marciniak No fans🤷♂️
DeleteBut I think, you cant read, I will tell you, he will back to WC Qualification ;), of course is Over🤗
DeleteWhy didn't any french referees refereed ucl finals from Michael vautrout on 1986 until now ?
ReplyDeleteBecause Bastien and Buquet never impress in their games, Turpin looks like a high school kid who is very nervous for the presentation he is about to have (which is not a good look for a UCL final referee) and others are not pushed by French committee. It says enough that the best chance for UCL final is based on gender and not on quality.
DeleteFor me, Quiniou deserved a Champions League final. Batta was also a good referee, but he was only a short time in the elite, in his later years. Veissiere, Lannoy, Sars or Poulat, in my opinion, had no level for a Champions League final. I think there is finally a serious candidate, which is Turpin. I am sure we will see him soon in a great final.
DeleteQuiniou was an excellent referee but he didn't referee ucl final why ?
ReplyDeleteHe had at his time a strong competition: Vautrot, Fredriksson, Ponnet, Igna, Kaizer, Agnolin, Casarin, Christov, Courtney, Pauly, Roth, Galler, Kohl.
DeleteAmong referees who have officiated UCL match during his age, I think that only Daina (SWI, 1985) and Tritschler (GER, 1989) were lower than Quiniou
But quiniou left fifa list in the end of 1995 and he was better than referees the finals 1991 and 1992 and 1994 and 1995
DeleteWho was the best in France Michael vautrout or Joel quiniou ?
ReplyDeleteChapron, Lannoy, Gautier, Buguet
DeleteBuquet, not Buguet.
Deleten ° 1 Gilles Veissiere, n ° 2 Turpin, n ° 3 Vautrot, n ° 4 Sars. saluti dall'italia
DeleteInteresting that no one mentioned Poulat, who was chosen over Sars for WC 2006?
DeletePoulat instead of Layec for WC 2006
DeleteRobert Wurtz!?!
DeletePoulat instead of sars for wc 2006
DeleteDefinitively Michel Vautrot; I've appreciated him so much

Great yellow card for simulation by Mateu Lahoz. I'm really enjoying him tonight. The great outgoing manager that he is. Among my top3 referees in Europe at the moment for sure!
ReplyDeleteFor me, he is the top candidate for CL final this year
DeleteTop Mateu! Simulation man!
DeleteAgreed! I still think he should have had the final last year, but he will definitely be one of the ones to look at this year. Taylor as his most important competitor I think.
DeleteMolde-Granada
ReplyDelete1st half
Good job by Serbian team. Not challenging first half.
Two good calls by AR2 (20'offside, 23' onside). Good foul detection by Jovanovic. Few nice advantages for Granada. One YC (Granada) for SPA.
Molde-Granada
Delete2nd half was more intensive than 1st half. Jovanovic did it well with his team.
We could say it was good ,,training" for them.
Good decisions by AR1:
-46' Offside call
-62' he signalised foul and YC for SPA
-86' offside call
The most important decision was penalty for Molde (89 min). Jovanovic saw it very well and whistled it. No doubt about that situation.
Penalty for Molde (89')
Deletehttps://vimeo.com/525772700
0-1 by Olympiacos: possible punishable offside, last replay showed that attacker didn't obstruct keeper's view, however he made a movement when ball passed. Rather no influence on keeper.
ReplyDeleteYesterday Orsato, today Mateu Lahoz. The referees took Rosetti's messages calling for avoiding harsh penalties very seriously!
ReplyDeleteWhat Del Cerro Grande did with Ba in Arsenal - Olympiacos must be in my opinion the expected management of protests - dissent by players and I will be very happy to see that in all competitions including the next EURO. Referee shouldn't be afraid of issuing a second YC / RC in case of such blatant behavior.
ReplyDeleteThis is - along with avoiding harsh penalties - the current trend introduced by Rosetti. We will surely see more brave cards for dissent in the nearest future. :)
DeleteInteresting because being Del Cerro Grande one could expect him to ignore those kinds of dissent by action. Glad that he issued that 2YC.
DeleteHowever, I guess that UEFA's recent instructions of zero tolerance against dissent might have had an effect.
DeleteGood management by Mateu, but for me, it was more a penalty than play on. Let's see if UEFA thinks it is a crucial mistake and it costs him the chance of the final. Probably not because it didn't have any effect on the outcome.
ReplyDeleteGrinfelds pink Jersey clashes a bit with slavia
ReplyDeleteWhen the selections for EURO 2020 will be published?
ReplyDeleteUnknown, I wish soon.
DeleteAlmost the whole bank of Zagreb was standing in the pitch. Massa should have take actions on that
ReplyDeleteBank = Bench
DeleteExcellent comment, tells that Massa did a good job when you point out such details. IMO 1 missed and 1 wrong YC, seemingly one wrong offside call and a bit too passive style, but no problems for him at all.
DeleteYes he did a good job
DeleteMissed penalty in YB - Ajax by Madden for hand ball. Very strange no VAR intervention. Arm was clearly away from the body.
ReplyDeleteMissed penalty for handball by Madden in 37' IMO. Don't really understand why VAR didn't intervene either, arm was in a clearly unnatural position away from the body.
ReplyDeleteQuite easy to understand really. English VAR's. That's the explanation.
DeleteA possible penalty in Bern, there was a VAR check, no intervention.
ReplyDeleteOne can discuss, arm was not in natural position, but I think it was assessed as consistent movement with the action of defender. Whistling penalty by Madden wouldn't have been questioned by VAR, for sure. In Italy this is mandatory penalty and VAR must intervene.
A very challenging game concerning managing the players and the game in Glasgow. Grinfeld is very calm and composed but I think he should have issued more cards in order to stop the rough way of playing and unsporting behaviours (Morelos is one of the biggest troublemakers I have ever seen). In my opinion, Hațegan was tactically better prepared than the Israeli, applying a typical by-the-book style, not allowing players to cumulate bad energy. Could be a very feisty second half.
ReplyDeleteNot the best half for Grinfeld imo. He has an excellent presence on the pitch and interfered with some minor confrontations very well. However Slavia committed a number of late and cynical fouls which could have been yellows. Furthermore I think slavia should have had a penalty at the end. No contact on the ball in the sliding challenge
ReplyDeleteYes, it looked like a clear penalty, VAR should have intervened there...
DeleteGrinfeld is appalling at applying the rules consistently. He has allowed slavia to dive and cheat the whole half with no action whilst booking rangers players for innocuous fouls
ReplyDeleteNothing interesting in Milan so far. Got no call on the two penalty situations. Otherwise, very easy game for Brych.
ReplyDelete*Good
DeleteIn my opinion the possible penalty in Grinfled game was not VAR stuff, absolutely correct to support referee, but penalty could have been whistled!
ReplyDeleteAnother missed penalty for handball by Madden in 48', correct VAR intervention. However, it really makes me wonder why VAR did not intervene in the first half.
ReplyDeleteNow in 48' another handball in Bern, this time VAR intervention and penalty whistled by Madden after OFR. After save by keeper, ball on the arm of defender. Comparing these two decisions by VAR should help us to understand more about VAR criteria for intervening regarding hanbdalls.
ReplyDeleteBasically, one could have decided the contrary: penalty in first case and no penalty in second case, or maybe whistling both.
Yet another VAR intervention in Bern, now in 55' for offside. Feels somewhat harsh to me, because player was not involved in the play, but a supportable decision at least.
ReplyDeleteNow a Young boys goal cancelled, IMO incorrect. Player in offside position did not intervene. Another very debatable situation in favor of Ajax, they are surely very lucky this season.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the player in offside did not influence an opponent, I think correct by VAR to invite referee to rewatch, but then better decision would have been allowing the goal. In both VAR reviews, I had the impression that Madden was about to change original decision without thinking too much, indeed he spent just a very few time in front of the monitor.
ReplyDeleteCorrect red card from grinfeld. SFP
ReplyDeleteCorrect Red Card for Rangers. Right decision from Orel Grinfeld.
ReplyDeleteI just saw the foul, terrible. This was a very mandatory RC!
DeleteGood decision by Grinfeld, who can allow a certain physical play, but definitely this was too much!
Terrible challenge, studs frontally in the goalkeeper's face. GK had to be taken off directly to the hospital...
Delete@Chefren : 100% approval !
DeleteRe to Marko23. Ok, we will agree that Matey is top candidate for Cl final this year, but I can not imagine how can anybody see English(full of respect) referees as top competitiors with Matey. If Mateu do not be in Cl final, I m pretty sure that there will be Makellie.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that Makkelie deserves it more based on performance, but since he is still only 38 years old, I think it's a bit early for him.
DeleteWhen I look at an alternative for Lahoz I think Taylor had had the best appointments and following the logic of the appointments I think it would be likely to see him there.
Marko, I think age should not be a problem to prevent any outstanding referees go to the final. However, as you said, committee may take it into consideration. I would be surprised if Mateu is still not appointed in CL final this year.
DeleteFor EL final, I think Taylor and Turpin are the biggest candidates. If I am asked who has a bigger chance, I would say Turpin because either Man United or Arsenal (maybe both) are likely to be in the EL final.
In 73. minute a completely wrong YC to Rensch (YB-AJA). If a foul, it was the opponent infringing the Laws.
ReplyDeleteCorrect second YC to Rangers by Grinfeld.
ReplyDeleteA few minutes before this incident missed possible DOGSO and RC (i think outside the penalty area), no VAR intervention.
DeleteCorrect RC again from Grinfeld. Much better 2nd half from him
ReplyDelete#6 Rangers should have been sent off. Another mass confrontation in Glasgow.
ReplyDeleteI fear we will be reading about this mass confrontation (and what was potentially said by the Slavia player) quite a bit in the upcoming days...
DeleteWhy? What is it that you "fear"?
DeleteAfter all, racism doesn't exist at all in UEFA, right?
Well the Rangers player obviously shouted "racist" after the comments of the Slavia player. Either it wasn't racist, which would make it said that the Rangers player accused him of racism or it was indeed racist which would be even worse. I think it's a sad incident in any way. So "fear" is the right word in my book...
DeleteNo need to fear. UEFA recently determined that racism isn't racism. It's nothing more than "inappropriate behavior" that can be corrected by simply attending an "educational program".
DeleteI mean, if you are reffering to the Colcescu situation, it was made very clear it was just a misunderstanding and not racism. Which is very different from calling some on by the N-word, which was probably the case here
DeleteThat's what I am saying. In UEFA, there is no such thing as racism, only "misunderstandings" or "inappropriate behavior". I'm sure that yesterdays supposed "N" word usage was just another case of a "misunderstanding", or "inappropriate behavior", or "cultural differences".
DeleteOff to the "educational program" for the racist player who isn't a racist just a misunderstood individual.
No, those situations have literally nothing in common. The Colcescu situation was a case of the referee using an innocent word from his mother language which is similiar to the N-word in English. A textbook case of misunderstanding, and I think the right action was taken.
DeleteIn this situation however, if proved, it is by definition a racist incident. By the latest accounts, the words "a fucking monkey" were used, which is very serious. The intent was clear behind this
But you simply cannot compare the two situations.
Case A = A Misunderstanding
DeleteCase B = Cultural Differences
By the standards set by UEFA itself. Neither are a case of racism.
If only other Confederations were as proactive and assertive as UEFA is in confronting and combating racism. What a footballing world that would be.
I don't quite understand what you are getting at. If the words "fucking monkey" are proved, I guarantee you there will be an action. Nobody is denying that would be racist. But as in all civilized cultures, innocent until proven guilty.
DeleteOh come now, as UEFA has shown time and time again. Words don't matter because words are just words to them. They don't carry any sort of significance or are simply "misunderstood". It doesn't matter if the "not racist" individual should have used other words. So as long as UEFA maintains this posture, it'll never have a racism problem. And for not having a racism problem, I "applaud" UEFA and its "firm" approach.
DeleteCan you please show specific situations where UEFA did not take action against PROVED racism accusations (the Colcescu situation was not racist looking at the facts). It regularly closes stadiums and issues heavy fines against any action like this coming from fans. And after all, these accusations have not yet been proved, so we have to wait for their decision.
DeleteOf course, everybody seems to forget a potential career-ending tackle on Kolář (10 stitches), vicious and brutal attack right before the eyes of Gerrard and UEFA delegate outside the dressing room, together with the very agressive playing style of the Rangers showing no class at all and being sore losers throughout.
It definitely does not justify the potential racist comment, but I think we should also look at the things that everybody saw, yet nobody cares about because someone maybe said something racist.
You're right. It's Rangers fault that the "not racist player" racially abused one of their players. How dare Rangers players feel enraged at the not racist player for maybe saying just some words. The Rangers players should've understood like UEFA does. That words are just word and that words aren't hurtful. Unfortunately the Rangers players believe in the "talk s**t get hit" mantra. It's all a big misunderstanding anyways. UEFA just needs to send them all to the UEFA re-education camps.
DeleteI am sorry, do you have any proof of the alleged racism? If it proves to be true, I will happily acknowledge the racist comment, but so far it is only a speculation. You do not seem to care however, you take a word of one man against the other. What happened to the "inoccent until found guilty"? And again, I am saying we should also focus on what potentionally kicked it off (tackle of Kolař, Rangers' style of play) and what has been proved (the attack after the match). You cannot just forget about all this and immediately go off on a one man because he was ACCUSED of saying something racist.
DeleteGlasgow Rangers - Slavia Prague (Grinfeld - Hassan, Yarkoni - Reinshreiber)
ReplyDelete7' YC considered (not given) for a reckless tackle - hard trend to keep up with if not given
11' Good offside call by AR2
16' Another harder tackle, another warning
20' A second harder challenge by Pedersen - YC has to be given
26' Another harder challenge, not reckless, but the reaction from players and Gerrard tells you all you need to know - not 30 minutes in and players are already frustrated
35' Good YC for SPA
38' Good YC for a reckless charge
45+1' Good PK no-call for me, but a case could be made even for a PK, no VAR intervention supportable either way
45+2' Mandatory YC for Illegal use of arms not given
Very tough first half for Grinfeld, he has not helped it by his hesitancy to show cards.
51' Very hard challenge near the sideline, YC not given, let's give Grinfeld a benefit of doubt due to almost no contact made
56' Supportable YC, but A LOT of theaterics by Morelos
61' Very clear RC, an extremely dangerous challenge
70' Borderline challenge for a possible RC/PK - have not seen a good replay
73' Correct 2nd YC, altough with a bit of confusion surrounding the call
81' Very good offside non-call by AR2
86' Good YC for a reckless challenge
88' Mass confrontation at the end as a result of a benevolent card-giving, but good management of it overall. Mandatory YC for both teams not given, onnly one for the home team
Very good game by Grinfeld only slightly brought down by an unsure first half (2 mandatory YC missed and a few more could have been easily given). Great work on both RCs (the second one with a little help from ARs/4O in identifying the player) and a supportable PK call at the end of the first half. Great field presence and foul recognition coupled with a satisfactory positioning. The late mass confrontation came as a result of the game management and there should have been at least one YC for both teams. Overall, Grinfeld started out a little weak, but despite some troubles, he showed why the UEFA believed him in such a big and sonorous match.
Hassan with no work at all, Yarkoni with two great offside calls, Reinshreiber with a good no-call for a PK review .
R - 8.4
AR1 - 8.3
AR2 - 8.4
VAR - 8.3
Thank you for the summary!!
DeleteNo problem, if someone has a link to the highlights, I would appreciate it

DeleteAnd anonymous 04:26 made a 30min highlights video of all the clips :)
Thank you :)
DeleteI already expected this game to be the most interesting one after watching all the first legs and taking results into considerations. But I never expected such a war. And, unfortunately, I have to say that Grinfeld did nothing to prevent the rough and even brutal way of playing.
ReplyDeleteMore cards should have been issued in the first half. No visible reaction against cynical and reckless kicks and studs-up challenges of Rangers players and persistent infringing by both teams.
Grinfeld was calm, composed and elegant through the whole game, it's true, but he is also indirectly responsible of what we experienced in this game. I fear it can be even something like 7.7 mark for him from observer.
However, in the RC for SFP incident Grinfeld is too late in calling for assistance, I think that in those cases that must be done immediately, even before showing RC to offender. Slavia GK had to be substituted.
ReplyDeleteapparent racist comment by Ondřej Kúdela towards Glen Kamara in Glasgow. 4th Official was informed by Kamara who shouted racist racist after incident. No immediate response from Grinfeld. UEFA will have to investigate
ReplyDeleteSo, afterall we can suggest that Collum for UCL final and Buquet for UEL final
ReplyDeleteHighlights of Orel Grinfeld's performance in Rangers - Slavia Praha:
ReplyDeletehttps://ok.ru/video/2761932606060
Incredible hard game to manage, with lots of fouls. I think Grinfeld did well, 1st and 2nd half. He let play flow if possible, but there were just so many fouls still.
DeleteI think he is a bit too far away from play sometimes (like YC for Kamara at 38'). I know that he does it, because the assistant is on this side, but it's too far for me.
According to the media, Ondrej Kudela (who was accused of rasicm during the match) was attacked violently in the stadium tunnel after the game and beaten with fists. The police was called, everything will have the third halftime it seems. :/
ReplyDeleteJust a thought - imagine if UEFA had reversed the first and second leg referee appointments...
DeleteHaha very dark humor, man
Delete"dark" indeed
DeleteHahaha!
DeleteWhy would they attack him?
DeleteThe racist player isn't a racist person. He's just a "misunderstood individual" who is probably only guilty of "inappropriate behavior".
We all know that racism doesn't exist in UEFA.
Your comments don't add anything to conversation and don't help in any way Sheriff!!!
DeleteI was thinking the same thing, Mikael, my word it is a dangerous time for UEFA referees’ careers...
DeleteJackson,
DeleteI would agree with you. But then we would both be wrong. Furthermore, I am simply "praising" UEFA for being a racism free confederation. That IMO deserves to be acknowledged. So with all due respect, I hope that the rest of your day is as pleasant as you are.
I disagree with the users stating that Grinfeld did well. I will explain why.
ReplyDeleteWe have three unpunished cynical late challenges from behind in 04', 16', 20'. It should've been a strong warning in 04' and yellow cards in 16' and 20'.
We have a very reckless trailing leg tackle in 07'. This is a mandatory (dark) yellow card, a very dangerous tackle.
We have another mandatory yellow card not given in 45+2', this time for reckless use of arm.
Start of the second half and we have another malicious and reckless studs-up challenge in 50'. OK, there is no much contact, but the atmosphere is very hot already. It would be just smart to issue a YC here. Again, no sanction.
In addition, no good management in these scenes. These are mandatory yellow cards and no even public warning is given.
So, we have HUGE deficiencies with regard to:
1) prevention - nonexistent
2) disciplinary control & players management - not even a warning while 4 mandatory and 1 preferable yellow cards had to be given
3) game reading & management - persistent infringing the LotG by several players, no management of Morelos after his provocations
4) match preparation - after tense first leg and knowing the result of it, the referee chose a wrong laid-back style and was not prepared to change it even when the game was becoming a war.
Sorry, but it's nowhere close to doing well. In contrary, it was a disaster with regard to all above mentioned aspects. The game wouldn't look like that if the referee was well prepared and alert. I remember Hațegan's long warning against Morelos after his FIRST provocation in the first leg. It shows how well prepared for that game was the Romanian and how bad the Israeli.
And I write this all without being happy to criticise Grinfeld as in overall I like his elegant style. But yesterday it was simply not enough.
I watched the 1st half again and I do agree with you, that Grinfeld could have done better in a few situations.
Delete7' I think if you set a high bar, no YC is a good option. The player played the ball. Compare this with Brych ACM vs. MUN (34'scizor, 88'late) who also didn't give YC for similiarly dangerous tackles.
For me Grinfeld should have given the first YC at 25'40, for persistent fouling of the whole team.
45+2' is actually quite interesting, I would not have given a YC, because the defender wants to get hit (look at his eyes). But I would understand being in the minority there.
I'll watch the second half later, really interesting game! :)
I have to agree with Sergio - this was a distaster in my view.
DeleteThe match temperature escalated due to the referee not issuing cards early in the game. Rangers were fouling recklessly and repeatedly, and this should have been managed.
I'll add that the referee was:
- Slow to signal after some incidents, which adds to player frustration
- Should have shown more presence where players are on the floor. In the foul leading to the alleged racist comment, the referee is simply walking to the foul when the foul itself is 1. Reckless+ (stomp near the ribs after the first foul, and another player kicking the ball on the player already on the floor) 2. Near benches 3. After a history of everything that happened before. Getting there more quickly could have prevented a lot of the things that happened afterwards.
All this to say: the match temperature is a direct consequence of the referee's management in my humble opinion.
Bayern-PSG in Cl QF
ReplyDeleteLahoz and Makkelie waiting for the letters from UEFA?
In fact Taylor or Oliver for sure in one leg, as the other pairs are so unfavorable for them.
DeleteBrych to Real Madrid - Liverpool? Is he possible?
DeleteManchester City - Borussia Dortmund
ReplyDeleteFC Porto - Chelsea
Bayern Munich - Paris SG
Real Madrid - FC Liverpool
Manchester City - Borussia Dortmund: Turpin/Del Cerro Grande
DeleteFC Porto - Chelsea Cakir/Orsato
Bayern Munich - Paris SG Makkelie/Taylor
Real Madrid - FC Liverpool Brych/Kuipers
Lahoz get a EL game and is reserved for the CL final
Lahoz...and what do you think in case of entering Real Madrid to UCL final and Villareal to UEL final?
DeleteHe will get nothing
Who was the best in Germany deter pauly or volker roth or aron shimudhoper ?
ReplyDeletein my opinion Aaron Schmidhuber, then W. Roth and finally D. Pauly
DeleteVery unlucky draw for English referees in Champions League. Only one English appointment is possible and, given the game (Bayern Munich - Paris SG) it will be Taylor.
ReplyDeleteAfter that, maybe English referees wont be possible in CL anymore.
I would make the following choices:
Manchester City - Borussia Dortmund
Turpin / Mateu Lahoz (del Cerro Grande if not possible with Guardiola)
FC Porto - Chelsea
Çakır / Brych
Bayern Munich - Paris SG
Taylor / Makkelie
Real Madrid - FC Liverpool
Kuipers / Orsato
However, in any case, the eight mentioned referees are definitely all the eight I think we can expect on next round.
Chefren taylor refereed recently psg and barca in paris it's not logic taylor refereed again psg
ReplyDeleteGiven this particular draw and how Taylor reffed the match there is simply no other option than Taylor in München. He has shown the capability to do so, Oliver hasnt. There is no doubt in my mind that the match in München will go to Taylor
DeleteMaybe rosetti could wait a semifinal without english teams. But is very dangerous and Taylor risks to be without a game in CL
DeleteThere are still restrictions on people from the UK going to Germany
DeleteMy prediction in case Skomina and Marciniak will recover;
ReplyDeleteCHAMPION LEAGUE:
MANCHESTER CITY - BORUSSIA DORTMUND
1st LEG: C. DEL CERRO GRANDE (IV: Estrada Fernandez VAR; Sanchez Martinez)
2nd LEG: D. SKOMINA (IV. Jug VAR: Irrati)
PORTO - CHELSEA:
1st LEG: O. HATEGAN (IV: Kovacs VAR: Valeri)
2nd LEG: s. MARCINIAK (IV: Razcwowski VAR: Gil)
BAYERN M. - PSG:
1st LEG: A. TAYLOR (IV: Kavanagh VAR Attwell)
2nd LEG: C. CAKIR (IV: Palabyik VAR OZkhaya)
REAL MADRID - LIVERPOOL:
1st LEG: C. TURPIN (IV: Buquet VAR Letexier)
2nd LEG: F. BRYCH (IV: Aytekin VAR: Dankert)
EUROPE LEAGUE:
GRENADA - MANCHESTER UTD
F. ZWAYER (IV; Aytekin VAR Dingert)
I. KOVACS (IV: Hategan VAR: Valeri)
ARSENAL S. PRAGA
1st LEG: T. STEILER (IV: Siebert VAR: Fritz)
2nd LEG: O. GRINFELD (IV: Reinsrheber VAR: Van Beckel)
AJAX - ROMA
1st LEG: S. VINCIC (IV: Skomina VAR: Irrati)
2nd LEG: A. MATEU LAHOZ (IV: De Burgos VAR: Hernandez HZ)
DINAMO ZAGREB - VULLAREAL
1st LEG: W. COLLUM (IV: Madden - VAR: Pawson)
2nd LEG: S. KARASEV (IV: Koulbakov VAR: Meshkov)
keeping Kuipers, Makkelie, Oliver Orsato and Soares Dias for semifinals
@Chefren why Del Cerro is in conflict with M. City ?
Irrati certainly not for Roma
DeleteGrinfeld not possible for Arsenal v S Praga, he refereed S Praga yesterday in Glasgow
DeleteIs Skomina healthy?
DeleteAlso, I notice that there's not place for Taylor in this round besides on PSG-Bayern... he's had PSG so often, but I guess if there's no other spot, maybe he'll see them again.
For me in EL we will see
ReplyDeleteOliver, Grinfeld, COllum, Karasev, Stieler, Zwayer, Kovacs and Vincic
In CL
Orsato, Taylor, Brych, Cakir, Turpin, Hategan + Skomina and Marciniak (if recovered, if not recovered: Del Cerro)
Skomina, unfortunately, will be out of last european matches. Stop writing his name in prediction
ReplyDeleteSource?
Deleteintuition
DeleteHello
ReplyDeleteManchester City - Borussia Dortmund
ReplyDeleteHategan / del Cerro Grande
FC Porto - Chelsea
Vincic / Turpin
Bayern Munich - Paris SG
Makkelie / Taylor
Real Madrid - FC Liverpool
Brych / Cakir
Kuipers and Orsato semi-final CL.
With Cakir there is a conflict of interest. If Liverpool will not finish the top-4 (a real possibility) and win the Champs League then Turkish champion will lose their automatic place in next years group stages. So I doubt they will give him this match.
DeleteI think English referees are done in the UCL this year. I don't see Taylor having another PSG game – it would be at least the 4th or 5th time he's had them in the past two seasons (correct me if I'm wrong). The only way Taylor gets another game is if there's a full non-English semifinal (and non-PSG too, if you ask me).
ReplyDeletePredictions:
Man City – Borussia Dortmund
1st leg: Turpin
2nd leg: Orsato
Porto – Chelsea
1st leg: Hategan
2nd leg: Cakir
Bayern Munich – PSG
1st leg: Mateu Lahoz
2nd leg: Makkelie
Real Madrid – Liverpool
1st leg: Brych
2nd leg: Kuipers
My predictions: Bayern Psg Makkiele and Mateu, Real Liverpool Cakir Brych, Porto Chelsea Turpin and Orsato, City Dortmund Vincic and Del Cerro.
ReplyDeleteI agree with someone else that Mateu will not be in CL until the final. It is also very hard to see Kuipers not in any CL game next round. Finally, Vincic has a good season but I think he will be in EL instead of CL in the rest of the season
DeleteMy prediction is the following:
ReplyDeleteMan City – Borussia Dortmund
1st leg: Del Cerro
2nd leg: Orsato
Porto – Chelsea
1st leg: Hategan
2nd leg: Turpin
Bayern Munich – PSG
1st leg: Cakir
2nd leg: Makkelie
Real Madrid – Liverpool
1st leg: Kuipers
2nd leg: Brych
For EL,
first leg: Oliver, Grinfeld, Karasev, Kovacs
Second leg: Mateu, Taylor, Vincic, Stieler
Given the fact that there is a very real possibility Brych can only be used on one particular semifinal (if Bayern or Dortmund go through, he is out of the other semi), I would think Brych would be saved for that semifinal. Otherwise, he would be reffing the same team back-to-back in QFs and SFs, which is risky.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, I expect Brych to have a UEL QF and then a UCL SF.
Okay, my prediction is this:
ReplyDeleteMan City - Dortmund
1st leg: Del Cerro Grande
2nd leg: Kuipers
Real Madrid - Liverpool
1st leg: Brych
2nd leg: Orsato
FC Porto - Chelsea
1st leg: Turpin
2nd leg: Mateu Lahoz
Bayern München - PSG
1st leg: Makkelie
2nd leg: Taylor
Europa League
Granada - Man United
1st leg: Grinfeld
2nd leg: Soares Dias
Arsenal - Slavia Prague
1st leg: Stieler
2nd leg: Marciniak
Ajax - Roma
1st leg: Vincic
2nd leg: Cakir
Villarreal - Zagreb
1st leg: Hategan
2nd leg: Oliver
My prediction:
DeleteMan City - Dortmund: Turpin / Hategan
Real Madrid - Liverpool: Brych / Orsato
FC Porto - Chelsea: Mateu / Makkelie
Bayern München - PSG: Oliver / Cakir
Granada - Man United: Marciniak / Stieler
Arsenal - Slavia Prague: Sidiropoulos / Soares Dias
Ajax - Roma: Grinfeld / Vincic
Villarreal - Zagreb: Taylor / Kovacs
Chefren in your opinion who referees candidates this year for ucl final ?
ReplyDeleteLahoz or del cerro but in condition real Madrid in the final who will referee the final ?
ReplyDeleteMakkelie should be the first option according to performance principle so far. I don't see del Cerro, to be honest, in case of Spanish assignment, it is clear that it will go to Mateu.
DeleteThanks
