The predictions game continues with the second semifinal to be guessed.
You have to guess the exact referee for each game by filling in a form. Just insert your name, or, if you want, a nickname (it must be always the same for all your future predictions) and then for each game just select the referee.

In order to give you more time to send predictions, we have decided to split some KO stage rounds, this is the second Semifinal, to be played on 14 December.
Appointments are expected on 12 December. When published, the predictions will be officially closed. The predictions sent after that (official time will be checked) will not be accepted.
Points will be assigned according to the following pattern:
10 points for having guessed the exact referee of a match
5 points if a guessed referee for a game will be appointed as fourth official
3 points if the appointed referee is from the same confederation as the guessed referee
2 points if the guessed referee is in charge of the other game in the round
Starting from semifinals we have also decided to introduce the predictions about VA, according to following scheme:
10 points for having guessed the exact VAR
5 points if the guessed VAR takes another role in the VOR
3 points for correct confederation
2 points for VAR at the paired match
A special thank to Philipp, who once again is here to help us and he will be responsible for collecting your predictions.
The modules for next rounds will follow in due course.
Now, Rapallini, Tello and Turpin are out. Elfath?
ReplyDeleteThe race for final this year is really interesting. I have the feeling that this impression is caused a overall weakeness of referees... Apart from Orsato and Marciniak we haven't a big amount a top referees.
In previous editions we had excellent Pitana (18, 14), Ricci (conmebol), Faghani (18), Irmatow (10), Nishimura (10) (AFC), very good Mexicans (Rodgiuez, Archundia) and specially a big amount of great UEFA referees like Kuipers, Cakir, Brych, Rizzoli, Webb, Kassai etc.
My overall impression is that average level of refereeing is decreasing, so in this year we have "a race of turtles", with connections to politics.
My bets for SF: Orsato, Marciniak. Final?
Elfath is born in Morocco. He can't do it.
DeleteI know, but I in case final ARG/CRO - FRA, Elfath can be in the middle, or not?
DeleteThe truth is, Collina caused all of this.
DeleteAppointing referees "madly" and in the end he put himself in that position of not knowing what to do for the final
No,becouse Moroco semifinal means that he is gone.
DeleteI see no reason why Elfath or Turpin should be out for.
Deletefor the final. FIFA just will wait which team will go for the final.
DeleteI see only Ramos, Orsato, Makkelie and Marciniak for semifinals and final.
ReplyDelete3rd place have more possible candidates
Why not Oliver?
DeleteI would like to see him again, but I am not so sure
DeleteMy minds are not going in way of see Oliver or Ramos in finals. I saw Orsato and Marciniak in semifinals, final definetley Lahoz or Sampaio.
ReplyDeleteYou really think that Lahoz is going to referee the final after he handed out out more than 15 cards and lost control completely? Both countries complaining about bad refereeing after the game. No way he is gonna be appointed in this tournament again.
DeleteAnd Sampaio had a bad foul detection and needed VAR to safe him, a rather shaky performance...
For me Marciniak for final. Orsato and Makkelie for SF. Ramos 3rd place match.
Here goes:
ReplyDeleteARG-CRO: Orsato
FRA-MAR: Ramos???
Final: Marciniak
Honestly, I thin Orsato deserves the final the most. If it was possible I would switch him and Marciniak. But since that seems to have been ruled out...
For VARs, I'll go with Iratti and Fischer on the semis, respectively.
DeleteHow about Turpin?
DeleteARG-CRO: Elfath
ReplyDeleteFRA-MAR: Orsato
Final: Marciniak
I have one more predictions:
ReplyDeleteARG-CRO - Orsato
MOR-FRA - Ramos
Final - Marciniak
Imo this will be the most predictable, Marciniak has a trust commitee and Collina, but at this WC he didn't get a big game or test before the biggest appointments in football...
Agree completely. Elfath is a bit 'unlucky' but his first game 'rejected' his oppotunity to get sth, even if they were to weave around the Morocco factor. ARGCRO could easily be a war. Valenzuela or even Makkelie as alternatives for second SF? Would have been better to see Marciniak one more time in case he gets the final, but he was more-or-less absolutely flawless in both games (ARGAUS was actually quite a tough gig IMO).
DeleteA baseless conspiracy theory: Seneme was 'given' both QFs today in compensation for supporting Orsato's final candidacy? ;)
Dont think so, Mikael W(full of respect about your opinion), but we should said that at last WC, Conmebol have two QF,one SF,and Final. And, I still belive in Lahoz or Sampaio in final, becouse I think that Orsato is planned for hot Argentina-Croatia match.
DeleteSorry, but the argument about Elfath's first game is not valid. If there would be a problem with his first match, he would already be sent home.
DeleteMaybe I'm wrong! It is just my idea that Elfath will have lost the trust of Collina/Busacca to handle such a hot clash as *(this)Argentina vs. Croatia* in a WC SF after sub-optimal performance (we agree it wasn't a good one, right?) in PORGHA.
DeleteMikael W: I have a problem only with the penalty. FIFA probably doesn't. The rest of the game was not so bad as some blogers try to present. Elfath's management of potentially hot situations was excellent in my opinion.
DeleteI agree on Marciniak. I think he is the second most deserving of the final behind only Orsato, but mostly by default... he is the "last man standing," but perhaps part of the reason for that is that he's only had 2 games so far! Normally I would be looking for something more to convince me.
DeleteSemifinals:
ReplyDelete- CRO x ARG: Elfath (USA) or Barton (SLV)
- MAR x FRA: Marciniak (POL) or Ramos (MEX)
- 3rd place: Makkelie (NED) maybe as a consolation award or maddame Frappart FRA (only if france is in the final) as a reaffirmation of women's participation in football.
- Final: Orsato (ITA) repeating what happened to Pitana in 2018 who was in charge of the opening and the final matches. Promoting thus rotation between CONMEBOL and UEFA with the same criteria
Italian mafia on duty... After FWC14 again Italian referees at the final. Sorry but FIFA must be stay clear...
DeleteI made a mess of the VARs.
ReplyDeleteARG-CRO: Orsato/Irrati
MAR-POR: Ramos/Fischer
Didn't realize Fischer had already displaced Guerrero on the last Ramos game plus been on ARG-NED.
I think Orsato is the only suitable referee for that SF and Collina will have to cross his fingers for a CRO-FRA final. He's made the mess by not keeping a 3rd South American country in play.
*MAR-FRA
DeleteI agree with @fest about the refereeing level at this WC. In my opinion after the bad 2002 edition we had a quite good level, with some excellent performances and also without OFRs...
ReplyDeleteIt's very crazy, but why not?
ReplyDeleteARG-CRO: Orsato
FRA-MAR: Ramos
CRO-MAR: Marciniak (3rd Place)
ARG-FRA: Elfath (Final)
I am going to go a bit brave with my predictions and say:
ReplyDeleteCRO-BRA: Orsato
MAR-FRA: Valenzuela
3rd place: Ramos
Final: Sampaio
Sampaio joke
DeleteThat’s an extremely brave prediction! Do you really think Argentina, as a consequence of the notified disciplinary proceedings, will lose their semifinal spot to Brazil ;p
DeleteARG-CRO will be either Orsato or Marciniak. MAR-FRA will be one of Ramos, Valenzuela, or, with a slightly more outside shot, Makkelie or Taylor. Important to note that the last time UEFA got both semifinals was in 2002 – since then they've never had more than one. However, I also don't think the referee of the final this year will have done more than three matches, which is also slightly extraordinary.
ReplyDeleteIt very much depends how FIFA interprets NED-ARG. Orsato is their #1 referee in terms of being a clean name, experienced, and his nationality helps – he is the safe choice in any match. Does FIFA want the safe choice for Argentina's SF, knowing what happened in the QF? Or do they want the safe choice in the final?
ARG-CRO: Marciniak (4th: Taylor)
MAR-FRA: Ramos (4th: Valenzuela)
Final: Orsato (4th: Barton)
ARG-CRO: Orsato
ReplyDeleteFRA-MOR: Marciniak
3rd Place: Barton, Gomes, Oliver, Frappart (I believe we could get another big surprise here. With how everything went so far I cant see an expected (final possibility) ref handeling it. Either performance reward and preparation towards 2026 for Oliver / Barton or a political appointment for Gomes / Frappart
Final: Ramos
Orsato looks to be the biggest name left while Ramos is entirely free of mistakes, has the experience of 6 (also hot) WC games and is a politcally save choice keeping confideration neutrality no matter who advances. I am rather sure they will handel ARG-CRO + the Final. Who will do what looks both quite reasonable to me, I go for Ramos in the final simply because he got a knock-out game before.
Furthermore 2 questions/ideas up for discussion.
DeleteDoes Marciniak and Valenzuela getting only 1 GS match before going into the knock-outs mean we will see both of them again?
Is it possible for Collina to be so scared now that Orsato gets both a semi and the final? Has that ever happened?
My full predictions
ReplyDeleteARG-CRO: Barton, Moran (both SLV), Nesbitt (USA), Al-Jassim (QAT) - Fischer (CAN), Villareal, Atkins (both USA), Gallo (COL)
FRA-MAR: Orsato, Carbone, Giallatini (all ITA), Valenzuela (VEN) - Irrati, Valeri (both ITA), Sokolnicki (POL), Hernandez (ESP)
Remarks
1) IMO those two were the best referees (besides Turpin) in the tournament
2) If it should be two UEFA referees, I would put Orsato on ARG-CRO and Oliver on FRA-MAR
3) Main final candidates for me are Ramos, Oliver and Marciniak
4) I don't think, Elfath is prevented for ARG-CRO by MAR in the other SF, but I just feel he deserves it less than others based on tournament performance. The US could be satisfied by Nesbitt, Villareal and Atkins working in the SF though.
Orsato for France Vs Maroco
ReplyDeleteElfath ARG vs CROTIA
FINAL MUHAMMED UAE
3rd Oliver
It could be Orsato for CRO-ARG, Ramos or Claus for MAR-FRA, final for Elfath or Turpin. Third place game maybe Marciniak, Barton, or Mohammed. Lots of options.
ReplyDeleteAfter semi finals matches known who will referee i think orsato for Croatia vs Argentina and marciniak for France vs Morocco and the 3 rd place aljassim and makkiele for the final
ReplyDeleteMistakes: selecting 2 BRA + 2 ARG + 2 ENG for the tournament while knowing that all 3 teams would probably reach at least QF (so it happened). Bad selection of GER referee, and after what we have seen, also of SPA one (Del Cerro Grande forever....). With at least 3 elite different referees from countries not involved in the tournament or not going to the final round all would have been easier and less conflictive. ARG-NED and POR-MOR are leaving serious doubts regarding all the process.
ReplyDeleteMakkelie will never be accepted if ARG is in the final
ReplyDeleteThe only three remaining possibilities without generating further discussion and "plot theories" are Orsato, Marciniak and Ramos. For the third place final one can choose any of the remaining referees. I still consider that no referee of the remaining 8 finalist countries should be selected for QF, SF and F. To avoid conspiracy theories.
ReplyDeleteI'd do as follows:
ReplyDeleteArgentina - Croatia: Ramos
Morocco- France: Makkelie
Final ARG-FRA: Elfath (Muhammed)
Or alternatively, without Croatia, Marciniak (Muhammed).
The best choice in ARG-FRA final is Marciniak. He refereed both teams without controversy.

ReplyDeleteOT: Robert Schröder (37, 54 1.Bundesliga games since 2018) is the new German FIFA referee, replacing Deniz Aytekin (44, 21 CL games since 2012)
ReplyDeleteI honestly would not rule Danny Makkelie out of getting the final.
ReplyDeleteHe's the go to guy for UEFA on big/troublesome games and puts in masterclass upon masterclass. It's very rare he has a poor game, to the point if he only puts in a superb performance it causes a shock and gets talked about for weeks. I know he's not had a QF but the refcom already know they can trust him to deliver. Argentina like and respect him, which also helps. He's a superb referee and deserves another game.
Collina knows he has messed up with some of the appointments, he knows his reputation is tarnished by that as well. He needs to appoint the SF & F on merit and merit alone to restore some credibility.
I'm going for Marciniak and Orsoto for the 2 SF, Gomes for the 3rd place game & Makkelie for the final!

DeleteArgentina - Croatia: orsato
ReplyDeleteMorocco- France: marciniak
final: makkelie
Oliver maybe will be keep for 2026 for record FA Cup(3rd time), UCL, and World Cup in same year, as legendary referee with 14 years FIFA license...
ReplyDeletePrediction for final
ReplyDeleteOrsato/Marcinak/Lahoz(UEFA)
Elfath/Ramos/Raphalini(non UEFA)
I hope if Morocco not advances to final the referee final is Elfath, and if Morocco advances to final Barton make the history as youngest referee in final in terms of age(31 years old) and in terms of seniority(4 years FIFA license-> since 2018)
Arg x cro Orsato
ReplyDeleteFra x Mar Ramos
Final Lahoz
If Makkelie gets the final I won’t watch it
ReplyDeleteIn that case I’m sure Collina will refrain from appointing Makkelie :)
DeleteOrsato will referee first semifinal: italian referee association gives this piece of news.
ReplyDeleteFor the sake of completeness :)
ReplyDeletemy predictions for the SF:
ARG-CRO: Orsato // Irrati
FRA-MOR: Ramos // Fischer
