Contrary to UEFA, whom much to their credit ordered strict policing in this regard at the summer course, FIFA took the benches laissez-faire at the World Cup to the extreme. Broken windows indeed as Giroud ran fully twenty yards onto the pitch before trying to sneak off...
Video of the scene is here:
The perfect image of a World Cup which has too-often had very little to do with real refereeing...
Where did you get this camera view from?
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed a trend at this World Cup. Occasionally half the bench was inside the field as were the substitutes. The only solution for this is to consistently give everyone yellow. So in this case also the warming up players above.
ReplyDeleteExactly, this behavior tolerated by the referees bothered me a lot, especially in the KO stage.
DeleteThank you for this footage. I think it shows a clear difference between an offence worthy of proper sanctioning and an "offence" in which the spirit of the game suggests it was nothing in reality (in reference to Argentina's 3rd goal). However, this is just my personal opinion and IFAB should thoroughly clarify this situation, IMO.
