Tantashev on France-Argentina? Oh boy...
ReplyDeleteNo comment on this appointment...
DeleteCircus 🎪🤡
DeleteWell, as it happened I watched both France-Guinea and Paraguay-Mali in this tournament and, being fair, I thought he did a decent job both times (with the rightly raised exception of the confrontation management vis VAR). Maintaining confederational neutrality, I don’t think there was a better option for this game to be fair. Meanwhile I can imagine that Beida is being lined up for the final?
DeletePenso would be a better option.
DeleteThe canadian crew (Fischer) Could've been used as well
DeleteI'm curious what FIFA thinks about Canada. Was the 6 points sanction oriented to be sure about the elimination of the team? Well, this didn't happen. Now, what if they will win a medal, after all was made public? For sure a very poor image for FIFA. If they think that the national team got a benefit from what they did, they should have disqualified them from the tournament. To be honest, that's a middle way I don't understand and agains the spirit of Olympics (that is indeed different from the classic football).

What do you guys think about this penalty area incident (video starts when the sequence begins) resulting in penalty and RC for SFP. Imo penalty is very clear but I'm very on the fence on the RC, yes the way defender lands on the ankle surely looks very bad and indeed could've resulted in a bad injury but I'm not sure the challenge in it self merits a RC. What's your thoughts? :)
For my taste this is neither a penalty, and also no red card, but just unlucky touch!
DeleteYes you can make a case for a penalty but it’s never a RC, for me no requirements to consider SFP has been achieved and going only after the consequences of a tackle is a dangerous move.
DeleteGood appointments by the ladies QF...
ReplyDeleteGarcia a promising referee
Pointless OFR in Egypt - Paraguay, beginning of first Half in Extra Times. I must say that Bebek calls too much referees to monitor! This time I didn't even understand reason.
ReplyDeleteThis is also why UEFA didn't appoint him for the Euros. Usually perfect for FIFA's lower bar, even if this will likely be too much for Collina
DeleteWhat was that? Unbelievable to call over, for a shove on natural corner kick jockeying, or some phantom shirt grab. bebek needs to consult and review more, this was bad to ask for OFR me. Good for Nyberg to deny.
ReplyDeleteTantashev struggling to stay ‘afloat’ in France-Argentina… curious for comments from someone able to watch the game in more detail as me?
ReplyDeleteI will watch the 2nd half for sure if the score remain same it will be hard to mange the last minite
DeleteReally? I think he’s had an excellent game. Good style too. He’s not Irmatov but he’s a decent referee
Delete49min ghost free kick
ReplyDeleteGame heating up as he chooses to be nore lenient and in the shadows.
ReplyDeleteDont know for how long he will be able to do that.
I saw the same plot in his previous game to be honest!
DeletePlayers seem to be free to do what they want, but surely at this Olympic tournament we can't see scenes like other big tournaments, and this helps the referee. Nevertheless, I can't see any skill there, if the game didn't explode, it was only because the players acted rather fairly.
2nd goal for france desload after ofr
ReplyDelete
Deleteridiculous decision
Correct decision. It doesn't matter that the contact was glancing, it was still studs to the shin
DeleteWhats your prediction for semi
ReplyDeleteMAR-ESP: Martinez (HON) - Al Naqbi (UAE) - Guzman (NCA), Pacheco (MEX)
DeleteFRA-EGY: Abatti (BRA) - Calderas (VEN) - Muniz (BRA), Gonzalez (URU)
Abatti seems relatively obvious, in the other game it is a close call between Martinez and Fischer (with the other one probably remaining a candidate for the medal games).
I wonder if the last two games could be awarded to a certain extent due to sports political considerations, for example Tori Penso as the current most successful lady for the gold medal game and François Letexier as the host country's referee for the bronze medal game (unless France is involved).
DeleteAR1 Lahoz xD with a couple of wrong offsides. Tantashev, for me, is a lighter Faghani, with similar qualities in foul detection but allows the players a bit more freedom. That made for an excellent game, well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat end
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to be harsh on Tantashev but - again - I didn't understand his game and players management.
ReplyDeleteSecond mass confrontation in a row: it's not a coincidence...
This time referee and his assistants standing alone on the pitch while all players were rushing to the tunnel where something happened (?).
I watched the second half and I think Tantashev was good, not great. He’s not the flashiest referee in the world, but he was steady today. His disciplinary control was very good, and he was alert to potential flashpoints. He manages everything with a very calm expression—this can be a good thing or a bad thing. It helped him deescalate some situations in this game, but you could also argue that he could have been even better with a more dominant “I am the Boss here!” presense a la Marciniak. His VAR announcement was rather confusing/chaotic and I wonder if his communication with players on the field is of a similar vein.
DeleteSo overall a good / not bad performance in the second half that I saw, and it’s important to remember that, given the history and the context of the racism allegations that have flown back and forth between these nations in recent weeks, it was probably the most difficult game of the tournament in many respects. I don’t think we can blame the referee for the mass con after the final whistle in this context; actually, the fact that nothing like that happened during the game itself is a credit to the referee’s disciplinary control IMO.
Only 5 different VARs used in the 8 QFs, i.e. 3 of them working twice.
ReplyDeleteAnd 4 of them already worked twice on MD3.
Seems like FIFA doesn't really trust many of their VARs.
Collina and Busacca at stadium watching Olofsson.
ReplyDeleteWell, saying that the first half was boring is even a compliment for the game.
ReplyDeleteIn this extremely soft context, three incidents to be reported:
7:25 missed step on foot, foul + YC when Japan regained possession of the ball, clear foul and YC, but the Swedish didn't notice it, one can maybe justify this miss because live it was very hard to spot it, but replay was very clear, irregular action by Japan
25:25 Free kick at the edge of penalty area, correct decision, not that much for the first and original tackle, but following a second movement that defender made when she was already on the ground, clearly impeding attacker from reaching ball. But in my opinion for this reason it was a clear YC, missed.
41:40 late and reckless challenge, with ball away, in this case referee very aware about the foul, but still no card. I think she had to issue it.
Easy and lazy officiating, but so far, given the nature of the game, it is not so much visible.. so one must still wait for possible "big events" to make more detailed assessments... we will see second half.
About second half, I couldn't watch in full, missed some minutes in the middle part, but I think the game continued as described.
Delete49:25 very dangerous tackle inside the box, could have resulted in penalt in case of reckless challenge, but ball played before and then maybe not so much intense contact with attacker, the replay was not shown so one can judge only the live sequence, VAR check was visible, so we trust Bebek.
56:00 it was definitely impossible not to book, for both SPA and reckless, mandatory card by Swedish referee, also reported by AR1
Injury time of second half: correct play on, USA player falling inside the box between two opponents, but nothing relevant there, correct by Bebek to stay silent.
All in all, it seems the performance is OK about the crucial incidents, but the Swedish has her own style about disciplinary management. Now the game continues with extra times...
Nothing particular happened during extra times, referee was very attentive with added time, follwing Collina guidelines.
DeleteOnly saw it now, but appearently the official Olympics website report a SVAR/AVAR2 for all games in the KOs

USA-Japan: Ovidiu Hategan ROU
Spain-Colombia: Sivakorn Pu-Udom THA
Canada-Germany: Carlos del Cerro Grande ESP
France-Brazil: Khamis Al-Marri QAT
A very challenging first half for Tori Penso.
ReplyDelete1' correct and manatory yellow card for reckless challenge
12' very clear penalty whistled with elegant gesture and movement
28' correct YC for reckless, after having played the ball, unfair contact on opponent, protests by French coach, Yamashita invited the US referee to book him as well
SF appointments thanks to Arbitrointernacional:
ReplyDeleteFRAEGY - Martinez (HON)
MARESP - Tantashev (UZB)
Eskas for the final?
DeleteOk, there should be some plans for Tantashev... I give up.
DeleteWhat happen, the german captain could make the choice if the goal for the penalties!! Unbelievable!!
ReplyDelete16 minutes add time in France X Brazil... 😳
ReplyDeleteGenuinely appalling how bad Penso managed +92’ (not respecting the distance, DtR, dissent towards the lineswoman… all let go). Female Elfath!
DeleteNow it's kinda losing control of the match...
DeleteWell, in the end everything was probably okay. Borre is right in what he says but YC is the best decision imo. Penso tries to solve too much with facial expressions (-> actor, ‘female Elfath) rather than real refereeing for my taste, but in general she is one of world’s leading female referees on merit.
DeleteWas that a closed fist punsch??
ReplyDeleteThere was this possible conduct violent as reaction indeed, but I would have liked to see more replays.
DeleteThere was also a simulation by a Brazilian player and this game at the end was 100% like a Men's one, you surely understand what I mean. Some behaviors you rarely or never see in Women's matches... as Mikael said, at the end I think the performance was still OK, but surely she could have done more. Nevertheless, one can see that she has some skills, but rather, she prefers to "keep" herself than using a very harsh style.
A difficult game for sure and I agree that Penso's style was probably adequate in this occasion. I really would've preferred VC though, at least to show that such outbursts have no place in a game of football.
