  2. Musial is normally avar by matches of Marciniak, but i guess after the alcoholic issue... its done?

Does anyone know what the polish commity has decided?

    1. Musial and Frankowski are suspended by Polish FA for 3 months.
I suppose that their career in UEFA has ended.

    1. He was AVAR in previous CL qualification rounds this season, but hasn't done play-offs (or more) before.

  4. The focus on Kružliak continues. Regardless of the performances, it seems as Rosetti is extremely happy with him. I think, with some Elite about to retire indeed, committee is trying to create strong alternatives for big matches, now after EURO one could say they are still working with the Slovakian.
Nyberg: very liked by UEFA and we already knew that. The very well-known English observer for him, for a further development. We can expect this game as challenging, after having watched both games of the Azeri team on previous rounds.
Then, Marciniak: probably the famous mistake will cost the Champions League and the goodbye to Polish team for he assistant referee involved, while now we have Radosław Siejka, 50 years old and former FIFA. We must wait to know whether he could be the new name at the Polish side, but generally the assignments for Play Offs in CL and not Group Stage games, seem to be more flexible. In this regard, we can mention indeed Dankert assistant VAR, Pfeifer. He should be a choice by German federation and not UEFA. We must wait for the next assignments for knowing who will accompany frequently the Polish referee. I think he was assigned to this game also to start a new path, indeed, after having ended in a very negative way 2023-24 season (apart from EURO 2024).

    1. Both are possible, there are many options.

    2. - It obviously can’t be Meler or Schärer.
      - Not sure about Vincic tbh. He has not refereed a game in PRVA Liga yet?
      - I doubt Makkelie is appointed this week when Dieperink works on Thursday (considering that VAR’s are at the stadium).
      - Kovacs, Taylor, Zwayer not possible for obvious reasons - UEL appointments.
      - Guida not likely after his last game abroad?
      - It won’t be Marciniak or a German when their VAR’s work on Tuesday.
      - Domestically, Gözübüyük has not returned from summer break yet and he’s ethnic Turkish. Don’t expect him in the play-offs at all.
      - I think Letexier has not refereed a game in Ligue 1, he could enjoy a break after long summer? Same could apply to Eskas

Turpin is possible, although it would be a busy schedule after his Saudi game and a Ligue 1 game yesterday. But at least he’s back and running ;-)

Regular observer, no clues. I’m leaning towards a Spanish referee, Michael Oliver, Turpin. Or indeed Peljto, but I kinda expect a bigger name in Bern.

Perhaps more interesting is the return in Turkey: heated atmosphere and observer Rocchi (ITA) which indicates a bit more focus by the Refcom.

  7. I have one more question.I'm sorry I asked so many questions, but how many days advance are the referee appointments made today or tommorrow determined by the referee committee how many days before the match are the refeerees informed about the match to which they have been appointed?

    1. There is no a standard time, in the case of these Champions League play-offs the appointments were evidently made once known the pairings, between last Thursday and Friday, however basically it is possible to make appointments even two weeks or more before the date, only those who are directly involved know about it , while the federation of the officials is informed of the international duty at the specific day.
For example, given that observers are now already appointed for Nations League on next month, referees have been already assigned, games starting from 5 September.
Then, as you probably know, most of UEFA assignments are confidental so revealed only two or, in some cases, three days before the date of the game and they are made public.

  8. Please find below a report about Peljto in Twente - Salzburg, a very exciting game with the final score open until the very last minutes. This already gives us the confirmation that it wasn't an easy takk for the Bosnian. But, after having watched it, one must say it wasn't the most challenging game for him. Normal difficulty for an Elite referee, with some key moments. He showed a totally strict approach since the beginning of the game, with a very early card, without using warnings and communication. He kept a stict approach with the players until a certain moment, but then I'm sorry to say he failed when this style of refereeing should have resulted in a sending off in first half, for a clear dissenting gesture against assistant referee 1. You can read below. Then in second half a penalty assigned after OFR, VAR needed about a minute to decide, it wasn't an immediate call, but I think one can have doubts. Both arms raised above shoulders and maybe for UEFA this is enough, but this action was clearly made to protect the face. Can be seen as naive action but I don't think all VARs would have intervened. Peljto in that occasion had a very good view and he could have whistled it by himself. Let's remember that the Slovenian Kajtazovič was the VAR. I think a call you can't question, but not a 100% clear penalty to me, given to the context. To follow, a potentially crucial incident in 90'+1 but I think you can support the Bosnian here. Excellent work about offfsides by both assistant referees, faultless, there were also other situations not shown in the clips (because too many), but one must say that AR1 was also responsible for closing his eyes under the missed sending off of Twente player. All in all, not the best performance by the Bosnian, I don't want to say he made it complicated by himself, but once you select a certain style, you must go deep with it... otherwise..
3' Correct delayed offside flag by AR2
    https://streambug.org/cv/2f0578

9' YC for reckless / SPA
    https://streambug.org/cv/54159f
Late challenge with raised leg / stopping the attack. In my opinion the decision can be backed but the feeling is that one could have survived without a yellow card in this case. How much contact with opponent is not fully clear.

    17' ONSIDE AR2
    https://streambug.org/cv/5c71f7

24' YC for kicking ball away
    https://streambug.org/cv/d9b1a8

    34' Offside AR2
    https://streambug.org/cv/d474da

37' YC for SPA - Impeding
    https://streambug.org/cv/f23c04
Good decision by referee, clearly a deliberate action to stop opponent, close to penalty area.

39' Missed second YC - blatant dissenting gesture
    https://streambug.org/cv/d4f013
If you give YC for kicking ball away to the same player, you must then take this decision as well. No reaction by AR1, when player made the gesture, but Peljto was looking in that direction and I think he saw. You can be sure the gesture was directed to officials decision and not as a personal reaction for having lost the ball, because it happened after having noticed the goal kick flag. Once again, we have discussions about the strict style of officiating: you can start with it without troubles, early cards are a good signal, but then when it comes to have such incidents early in the game, well, you should continue with the same criteria. Really sorry... would have been an extremely crucial and important decision, at the end not important for the outcome because Dutch team was eliminated, but still..

41' Normal collision, correct play on
    https://streambug.org/cv/1eb238
Defender trying to protect keeper's save, then nothing to report with attacker.

    1. 46' ONSIDE AR1
      https://streambug.org/cv/6ae2c1

      51' YC tactical foul
      https://streambug.org/cv/c53a32
Player was impeded from reaching ball by teammate. This card confirms the style of the Bosnian referee.

72' Penalty for handball after OFR
      https://streambug.org/cv/49d3eb
      https://streambug.org/cv/e8ddd4

79' YC Keeper time wasting, not shown live in the broadcast

      82' YC reckless challenge
      https://streambug.org/cv/c488c0

      90'+1 Penalty area incident
      https://streambug.org/cv/e8597e
A penalty call could have been very crucial but I think that, watching and rewatching it, referee can be backed. You have both players jumping and looking for the ball, maybe you can perceive more movement by attacker then defender, nevertheless, I think it stays as grey area. If a referee if convinced about, at least, a careless action and gives penalty, the VAR should just support. The crowd asked for the whistle, but then the afterwards allow us to think that referee's decision was at least OK.

      90'+8 Time wasting - Management
      https://streambug.org/cv/b42cb8
I think in this case referee could have been more active instead or leaving only fourth official to deal with the player. However, good decision with 7 minutes of added time, then also extended.

    2. I have to disagree with you on the second yellow card for the dissenting gesture.
No card there is fine to me. Yes, he makes a gesture, but I don't think it's overly blatant and I think that there can be some space for emotion. A public warning maybe (Or better: personality, showcasing the limit has been reached) would work much better for me than a second yellow card.

      Delete
    3. I don't even see why it needs to be addressed at all. I'm shocked a yellow card is suggested, nevermind a second one. It's a quick emotional outburst and then a conversation with the AR, he then turns and walks away. It's nothing.

Also, I don't see why 9' should be backed. Even if there's contact on the side of the foot, it's not with studs and it's not significant force. I don't see reckless or SPA here at all and, again, I'm not even sure it's the type of foul that needs much management (unless there was already something in the first eight minutes involving this player or similar in nature).

  9. In the Netherlands (Eredivisie), Gözübüyük had no appointments so far (MD1-MD2-MD3). I assumed it is an extended summer break as he hasn’t worked as VAR as well, but this should normally rule him out for international duty next week and the first Classico of September the 1st (MD4).

Additionally, Higler just officiated Ajax, so the options for the Classico are limited. First of all, the boring choice Makkelie, who already officiated 7(!) Classico’s in his career and then secondly, Allard Lindhout. I suspect and hope we will see the latter because it’s still early season and KNVB left him out from the MD3 appointments which could be a clue. Let’s see.

Excellent Marciniak. In 62' he disallowed a goal scored by Slavia after a handball very difficult to see.

Well, one should wonder how he did that because definitly hard. Also for assistant referee 2... maybe a bit of intuition based on the movement of the ball.
Very determined gesture when he got confirmation by VAR!

    2. It's quite obvious he whistled a (non-existing?) foul and got lucky there was a handball so VAR was able to confirm a disallowed goal.

  12. Some clips from Nyberg game.
In first half, he tried to use his well known style.
Second half: he had definitely to change because the match turned into a challenging one.
I think he totally missed the crucial incident of second half, but in case assistant referee should have cooperated.

2' Disallowed Goal AR1, correct decision
    https://streambug.org/cv/669d30

    44' Possible YC, Management
    https://streambug.org/cv/d2cfc0
Challenge on the ball, but also dangerous contact with opponent, possible to assess it as reckless, referee opted for careless, management of coach with the cooperation of fourth official.

    56' YC for SPA
    https://streambug.org/cv/5c3664

62' YC after advantage, very good management
    https://streambug.org/cv/67b876

    69' YC for reckless challenge
    https://streambug.org/cv/995d9a
Mandatory. Possible RC but intensity can allow us to support YC.

84' Possible penalty for handball and possible YC for reckless
    https://streambug.org/cv/15b077
    https://streambug.org/cv/96e4b7
Maybe a lack of concentration by referee, I think he should have booked the player from Qarabag for the foul, before that, well, I think this looks like a rather punishable handball, but maybe outside? Impossible to say. VAR didn't intervene. For sure Nyberg couldn't see anything, and all about the call was in case expected by AR1 with a frontal view, nevertheless, we can't know whether he made this assessment or not. No further and closer replays.

    90'+4 YC Coach
    https://streambug.org/cv/bf68f4
At the end of the game, the coach from home-team was booked, after having been warned in first half...

  13. Serie A appointments: Massa will be AVAR in two games, on Saturday and Sunday in the evening. His assistant referees will have a game on Sunday at 18:30 with another referee. This should rather mean that in case of Champions League assignment, they are planned on Wednesday and not on Tuesday, otherwise I think they would have appeared on Saturday. Guida is out, no appointments for him, after having worked as AVAR in two games (same as Massa) on MD1. I think that Guida will be directly appointed in a big match on next serie A turn, there will be at least three interesting games, but at the same time I believe that in case of no European appointment maybe he would have appeared again in serie A and B in some roles. So very curious to see next week's Champions League choices.. after having missed all appointments so far during the summer, Massa must definitely have one game, but I think it would be possible to see Guida as well (despite of Rangers game?). Let's wait and see... on paper all second legs CL play offs are OK for Italian referees, unless Galatasaray, where Rocchi is appointed.

  14. Ivan Kružliak, Bodø/Glimt - Crvena zvezda.
Not a challenging game for the Slovakian referee.
A few fouls, correct cards when needed, regular performance.

    13' Free kick for handball
    https://streambug.org/cv/dd4778
Still not 100% clear, very quick and no very close replay, but I think that given the position of the arm this can be rather a wrong decision, nevertheless I observed very often that when a player makes this movement to extend his body to a certain side, he can be punished. To me not 100% clear the exact point of contact, but Slovakian referee to be praised for the calmness and even the smile while selling the decision.

    21' Penalty area incident
    https://streambug.org/cv/f209b8
To me even a simulation, absolutely unsporting behavior by attacker, one can blame the Slovakian for the missed card, but of course never penalty and that's most important thing.

44' Disallowed goal AR2, correct decision
    https://streambug.org/cv/0b106f

    45'+1 YC for reckless challenge
    https://streambug.org/cv/bb0f78

65' Quick reaction after potential head injury by keeper
    https://streambug.org/cv/027115

70' YC for kicking ball away, frustration

    77' YC for pushing
