  1. Good signal for Ghorbal to get this early game, I think, differently from the past in which most of the times CAF referees were assigned to the first game, a play off (there were less teams, if I'm not wrong), but then very often nothing more than that if not third or fifth place final. I think he can be a contender for a very big game after that, including the final.
As we saw with Hauata in other FIFA competitions (he handled France national team), FIFA doesn't care about the nationality of the teams from French Polnyesia and so we have Turpin as fourth official.

  2. OMAN - AUSTRALIA

DOGSO or SPA? Referee booked the player, I guess for genuine DOGSO.

And, what do you think about this penalty?

    1. More arguments for DOGSO, I think.
And IMO DOGSO-YC is correct, because it is a tripping offence - and not holding. But surely debatable, whether it is really genuine.

Penalty looks soft, but not wrong. There is a clear kick by the defender against the opponent's leg, but with low intensity, it seems.

    2. to add to Philipp's assessment, I think the striker goes down early, before the kick by the defender IMO. Surely nothing for VAR, but not a PK for me.

    3. Interesting. I'm Australian and I think that is 100% a penalty.

    4. Fitst one DOGSO while attempt to play the ball, so PK and YC is correct. For me the second one is rather not a penalty cuz the challenge is slight, but the give of PK and no interruption is also acceptable.

  3. Yellow the first and penalty the second

    1. I agree, that this is the most likely scenario.

    2. That is the most likely scenario in match appointments. Hoping Mustapha Ghorbal gets another chance if he has a very good performance in First Rd match.

  6. 38' OFR to disallow 3-0 goal for handball, attacker scored with the hand as he tried a header.
Correct and quick decision, Ghorbal totally missed the incident live.

  7. Al Jazira - AS Pirae
    Disallowed goal after OFR 36'

Very particular that the first OFR of this edition is for disallowing a goal after a handball, something missed in the last final by CONMEBOL VAR in 2020 (decisive goal by Bayern M.)

    1. Why OFR? I thought attacking handball is a fact in this case?

      Delete
    2. Yes, I also don't see a reason for OFR there.
      Maybe some new FIFA instructions?

    3. To decide whether to book player or not (if punishable by law or not).

    4. OK makes sense and seems to be in line with the protocol.
But it's something new for me, I don't remember having seen such a process before. Mostly, those decisions are taken without OFR.
I wonder, whehter an OFR would be required, if the VAR thinks, that the handball before a goal is a clear YC.

    5. According to Japan Referee Committee, FIFA recommend an on-field review in attaking handball situation.

  8. Would have thought Lahoz would have gone as UEFA Champions League referee like the previous edition. Is Turpin being reserved for the semis

    ReplyDelete
  9. To be fair unless Concacaf has a very special referee the 2 semis are usually refereed by Europe and South America.

  10. Only 2 referees in the VAR for the next two games? :)

  11. Turpin and Rapallini will get semifinals, who do u think will get 5th, 3rd place and final? My predictions are - Ramos for 5th place, Ghorbal for final and Beath for 3rd place

    1. Reasonable predictions. Before the start of tournament (without knowing the early appointments) I would have indicated Ghorbal for the final. Let's see whether this will happen.
Turpin and Rapallini indeed seem already planned for the semifinals. Third place for Beath and fifth place for Ramos.

    2. Beath very good so far. He could be a candidate for the final this year.

    3. Thanks, any particular info on this game? Anything interesting to report about refereeing?

      Delete
    4. No KMIs, no VAR interventions. Normal difficulty match.

    5. My predictions for referees
      Semifinals - Rapallini and Turpin
      Fifth Place - Ramos
      Third Place - Ghorbal
      Final - Beath

    6. Monterrey is in the 5th place game, so Ramos is impossible there.
Really not a good idea to select a referee from a participating country as it limits possibilities.

      Delete
    7. The fact that Ramos was selected as second option can suggest us that indeed committee had thought about that but then for some reasons they had to change.

      Delete
    8. Well, it wasnt likely that Monterrey will lose, isnt it? :D Now its clear that Ghorbal will oversee 5th place match. I think no chance for Yareboinen to become non support referee role

      Delete
  12. Why Yareboinen is not yet appointed as 4th?

  13. Anything interesting in today's match, besides the big score?

    1. I share the question. Unluckily, no broadcasting for this tournament here. And I also notice that year after year this CWC is definitely losing importance under the eyes of fans.
