  1. The most important observer is former committee member Fandel in Greece for Visser, to follow I think that Kavanagh can also have a special eye by committee, with Trefoloni who could report about him to Rosetti.
I'm very curious about the next English Category 1 referees in focus by committee, to be honest at moment after Taylor and Oliver it is difficult to have any idea.
As Peter wrote on last December, the appointment of Lechner in KO stage is the return of an Austrian referee in this stage of a UEFA club competition after 7 years (Robert Schörgenhofer was the last one).
Kabakov in Serbia still needs to gain trust by committee after rather poor performances.
Peljto in this competition I think mostly to VAR, maybe he needs more experience before using it in KO stage of EL. We will see whether he will get an assignment, but I rather think he will stay in ECL, and maybe with good chances to reach quite late stages.

    1. What do you think about Ivanov appointment?

    2. In my opinion a rather "normal" appointment for him, more generally I think that the development of Russian Category 1 referees after Karasev as Elite, is a bit slow. I would have liked to see more options, with Levnikov, why not, promoted as well. We will see. If I'm not wrong, both Levnikov and Ivanov have the same age.

    3. I hope to see Levnikov promoted as well, btw Ivanov is one year younger than Levnikov, latter is 39

    4. Chefren, you mentioned Harald Lechner above - what is you opinion on other Austrian refs (Schüttengruber, Jäger, Altmann, Weinberger ...)? Do you see anybody coming closer to an elite level?

    5. I'm sorry, I didn't watch any game of them to say something more about that.

  2. Bad start from Kabakov. Wrong YC, after that missed very clear corner kock, then missed clear foul,, and after that gave totally wrong corner kick followed by the goal scored directly from that corner kick. Everything in 23 minutes. Very far away from elite referee performance.

    1. After, I re-watched all the mentioned situations, I CAN NOT say the YC for N 11 home team is wrong as, we do not have clear evidence. The action by N11 are clearly unsporting. IMO the decision should be supported as, it was not black and white mistake.

Yes, the corner kick was clear but very difficult to spot on by the Referee live.

Also, not clear evidence for the situation goal-kick or corner kick. It would be a touch by the knee of the defender after attacker kicked the ball - follow the trajectory of the ball.

  3. Qarabag scored by arm. Frankowski in trouble in Baku.

    1. The goal is disallowed, after a chat with the Qarabag captain it seems.

    2. Very good fair action, Qarabag coach applauded.
This is the new course in games without VAR, hopefully!

    3. I watch this game, but I knows that Frankowski changed his mind.

    4. The break in the game was 5 minutes. I think coach Qarabach said: admit she arm ...

    5. IMO, I didn'd observe any YC for QAR #25

  4. Lechner interrupted his game

    1. Unidentified object was thrown close to AR2 and a player who was about to kick.

    2. In the first 30 minutes also twice objects were thrown

  5. Wrong second YC from Kabakov. Striker from Partizan didnt even wanted penalty.

    1. Watching the clip, I can't see a reason for that easy falling down of number 11. He surely try to deceive the referee. I like curagiuous referees, so I totally support that second YC

    2. The youtube link doesn't work in all countries.
      Here the second YC:

I think that this YC is very harsh, live it didn't look like a dive, replay shows that before falling, player has the defender ahead of him. So to me normal contact of play, not penalty, OK, but the simulation seems harsh. This is a classic situation in which all would have accepted play on. However, I can't say 100% mistake.

    3. Both legs banded at the same time, contact is not corresponding with the fault, good decision by Kabakov IMO

    1. Nice idea :)
But it is just following UEFA's idea, that referee socks need to have a different colour than the player socks.
Blue is the most sensible kit colour, but one team has blue socks (and the other team black ones) - so they had to choose yellow or red socks.

    2. Sorry, but he is looking like clown. It is very rare situation, they should allow him to wear blue kit with black socks.

  8. Any word on the perfomance of Lawrence Visser?

  9. I can report a good game by Kehlet at Vitesse-Rapid Wien. With some excellent offside decisions from the AR´S. The first game got out of hand a few times but Kehlet was completely in control except for 1 mass confrontation (3x YC given)
