  1. Many observers who have become important in Rosetti's era already in this round. The only Second Category referee (Simović) observed by Rocchi. All games would be worth of watching :)

    1. Yes, I would say the Italian pool of trusted observer by committee (you can read "Rosetti").
Trefoloni gained big credit in recent times, now Rocchi is immediately getting quite interesting assignments as new UEFA observer, and Messina, who has been always in this position in recent years, observing promising referees, working also as mentor for some of them.
The big game is for Nyberg (SWE), but there are also many other interesting choices, I would indeed like to watch all games and to have all reports...

    2. I was searching for loan to sort out my bills& debts, then i saw comments about Blank ATM Credit Card that can be hacked to withdraw money from any ATM machines around you . I doubted thus but decided to give it a try by contacting { cyberhackingcompany@gmail.com} they responded with their guidelines on how the card works. I was assured that the card can withdraw $5,000 instant per day & was credited with $50,000,000.00 so i requested for one & paid the delivery fee to obtain the card, after 24 hours later, i was shock to see the UPS agent in my resident with a parcel{card} i signed and went back inside and confirmed the card work's after the agent left. This is no doubts because i have the card & has made used of the card. This hackers are USA based hackers set out to help people with financial freedom!! 3. Just wanna say a big thank you Neme Amber for introducing me to Dr Emmanuel the great HERBALIST that helped me prepare home remedies that cured my herpes (HSV 2).
I was infected with HSV 2 for the past two years and i was unable to get a better job cos all the company i was to get employed checked our blood test and found out that i was positive to GENITAL HERPES and i loosed employment.
So i was desperate to get a cure so that i can live normal and get my job training.
i earlier made some research and i contacted some doctors online but they keep on asking for money for courier after that they'll tell you that tax and so more so i became broke and frustrated.
One day i was less busy so i decided to make latest research on herpes cure and i found a site were everyone was talking about DR Emmanuel and herbs ability to cure herpes.
So i discussed with Neme Amber and she explained to me that its very easy working with Dr Emmanuel so i contacted DR Emmanuel via email ( nativehealthclinic@gmail.com ) and he helped me just as he has helped others now im cured and different medical centers has tested me and approved me cured.
so i decided to thank Neme Amber cos she made it possible for me.
and i can also assure you that he can also help you. so if you need the service of DR emmanuel, ill put his details here so that you can easily get in touch wif him.

    1. Big homework for Kassai to raise the level of Bulgarian referees, I think I see things and problems that are typical in Eastern European football refereeing. VAR in above incidents worked well except for the handball incident which I thought was passive and of course the second yellow card which was clearly a fatal error from the referee (VAR couldn't intervene), whereas the last minute incident (chaos) IMO was definitely not a foul (supportable, penalty can only whistle by the referee)

This comment looks like personal attack against Viktor Kassai and Bulgarian referees. In our country we also have ex Ref Co members who are out now and try to create preasure and scandals as this one. This comment look quite much the same.

VARs did a very good job for my taste in the clips mentioned . Of course, in some of the situations the best decisions were not taken by the Referees but I would never say big scandal.

It seems to me that, the Anonymous 10:25 and Anonymous 14:35 is the same person and I would suggest him to read more carefully the LOG and the VAR protocol in order to be more familiar with them, using the correct considerations.

  12. Polish readers: Why has Piotr Lasyk and Jaroslaw Przybyl, such good referees, never been on the FIFA list?

How do you consider the future of Polish refereeing? Who has future:

    - Damian Sylwestrzak
    - Damian Kos
    - Lukasz Kuzma
    - Pawel Malec
    - Lukasz Szczech
    - Piotr Urban
    - Patryk Gryckiewicz

    1. Kwiatkowski, Lasyk and Przybył were discovered too late, when they were already experienced referees. Przybył was 38yo when debuted in Ekstraklasa, Kwiatkowski and Lasyk 36yo.

I don't see nothing 'FIFA' in Lasyk, to be honest. He isn't a proactive referee. He just reacts to incidents and lacks in charisma. Przybył is a natural, expressive referee but always has a tendention to allow too much (maybe not to such an extent like Musiał - how is he still FIFA?! - but still...). Kwiatkowski has a huge natural authority and is loved by players but the referees committee didn't decide to nominate him for FIFA list when he was 38yo. His weak point is, like Przybył, being very permissive. His brilliant leadership compensate that very well, to be fair. He would be loved by Rosetti, I guess. :D His style reminds me Vinčič but he's even more expressive and friendly than the Slovenian.

Sylwestrzak (30yo) and Kos (33yo) are young and quite talented. Kuźma (31yo) is also young but should develop his decision making and soft skills.

Malec is already 37yo and rather a weak referee, both technically and regarding personality, imo. Same speech could be made about Szczech, 38yo. He was quite perspective when entered Ekstraklasa but his form decreased.

And I didn't see enough of Urban and Gryckiewicz to give a verdict.

    3. Thank you @Euro Soccer Ref.

      One more question:

Dismissal of Zbigniew Przesmycki - was this related to his court case with Mr Jaroslaw Rynkiewicz, former referee and controversial figure - mistreated in opinion of some and illoyal behavior in opinion of some?

      Delete
    4. I rather tend to think that after 10 years as a head of referees (wow, what an achievement by Mr Przesmycki!) and election of new president of Polish FA (Boniek couldn't have been elected for the third time), it was something natural. The new president opted for the new opening.

Now, we have Mikulski in charge. And so far, I fear the leadership isn't even close to what was under Przesmycki.

Zbigniew Boniek, former Polish FA president, when clubs protested against refereeing and Przesmycki, once said "you'll miss Przesmycki when he retires". He was 100% right. To be honest, such devoted experts are needed in world refereeing, especially nowadays when being a head of referees means being a puppet of clubs and federation that hires you.

Przesmycki's logical thinking abilities, extremely professional analysis, very strong leadership and charisma, being 100% against clubs influencing refereeing were invaluable. You are not going to see such a head of refereeing anymore, I think. Of course, nobody is perfect and if you have to make some decisions in such a weird environment like a group of referees, it's sure that you'll have enemies. But Przesmycki was a great leader.

  13. Midtjylland goal was ruled out for offside, a very close call, probaly just onside. Ib those situations again such a pity that there is no VAR

    ReplyDelete
  14. Tough match for Serbian crew, many difficult situations. Apart from that offside call there were 3 penalty shouts for handballs 2 for FCM and 1 for Larnaca, all of them not given but with the VAR all 3 probably would have been given. Overall Simovic performance wasn't bad, liked his demeanour and foul detection but again in those crucial decisions he was probably wrong

  20. Ferencvárosi - Slovan Bratislava, Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea:

Regarding the teams involved, one could expect a challenging game played with much passion in a hot atmosphere.
This being said, the recenlty promoted 1st Cat Spanish referee has been appointed in this very interesting match.
I was quite surprised to see his name at first, I expected a more experienced official (eg his countryman Hernandez Hernandez, who already made his CL debut).
We can read this as a quite important test for the Spaniard, where his ability to deal with high pressure environment will be in focus.

De Burgos started well in 1H, especially in his assessment of what is a foul (4',13',17') and what isn't (clean tackles in 18',20'). He correctly rejected a penalty appeal for handball in 22'.
He chose to open cards in 26' for a reckless use of arms, without the most optimal replay shown, I personally found it quite soft (not an isolated incident, arm/elbows infrigments were not his strongest suit)

The most interesting moment of the 1H was in 30', where home fans threw plastic cups near the corner area where a slovakian player was about to kick. While there was good teamwork between referee and AR2 to ensure no one was close to the incident, the mass confrontation which occured right after was not optimally managed, at least could (should ?) have been prevented: De Burgos correctly cautioned FTC10 for UB, therefore a more proactive approach (separate the two players arguing right away ATM instead of standing next to them and let them talk) and the Spaniard would've avoided this YC: lack of anticipation IMO.

Then his foul detection dropped quite significantely: missed careless use of arms in 36', missed stamp in 45' (there are arguments to deem it as careless or reckless), missed YC for reckless elbow in 45+2' (much more bookable than the one in 26').
He rightly rejected another penalty appeal in 42' though.

2H was much calmer, referee was almost unchallenged. He gave some good advantages in 53', 60' and 84'. Besides another careless vs reckless use of arms in 64' and a possible missed SPAish foul in 90', no casualties (only 10 fouls in 2H)
The most remarkable event of 2H was actually right before its beginning: when home fans used some fireworks, where Spaniard sent the Hungarian captain to talk with the fans at the other side of the pitch (where the fireworks were lighten). A less challenging half for sure.

    1. (2/2) Ferencvárosi - Slovan Bratislava, Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea:

De Burgos' style is quite special. Not a charismatic leader by any means, not relying on personality (I'd even call him shy at times) but on a very empathic image, very keen to connect with players and co at all times, his head injury dealing in 44' is the perfect example: he actually took the time to talk with the Hungarian coach, doctor and physiotherapist and explain why he checked himself if the injured player was ready to come back. (I thought he'd lecture everyone in the bench :D)

When it comes to disciplinary control, he adopted a quite lenient approach: he could've issued cards in 36',45' and 64', but chose not to and credibly so: he maintained a good control throughout the game.
The YC missed in 45+2' for reckless use of arms was the only clear error.
In general, the Spaniard struggled with the arms offences, he simply couldn't assess properly when there was no foul, and distinct careless and reckless challenges.
That's quite unfortunate, as he had a good foul detection in other areas (especially in tackles).

My mark for his performance is around 8,1-8.2.
Overall, he showed some good abilities (game management, coolness, player acceptance), nevertheless I think he still needs more time to develop. Still a decent game for him, he can be satisfied of his work tonight, IMO.

UEFA with rightly focus on Hernandez Hernandez as the next Elite from Spain: the latter is simply a more mature and skilled referee. Nothing catastrophical though, de Burgos is younger (1986 born) and still has a few years to go.

By my reckoning, De Burgos' peak in UEFA will be as a top 1st cat (like eg Jug, Buquet). When it comes to personality and game feeling, the Spaniard simply hasn't (yet ?) an Elite potential. Perhaps he can catch the train later, but right now there is a lot of officials with more qualities.

    2. @Upstylon, 100% agree with your analysis and I couldn't have described his style better myself! :D (though I couldn't watch the 2H since I fooused in ENG-ESP from 21:00 onwards)

De Burgos comes from having probably the best season of his career, with regular good performances in LaLiga including Sevilla-Betis derby in Copa del Rey and several decisive relegation matches, like Mallorca-Granada. In fact, he was awarded the Vicente Acevedo trophy at the end of the season (i.e. the best referee according to CTA-RFEF board)

I like a lot his shy but co-operative style, but indeed his UEFA 'ceiling' should be to become a top/safe-pair-of-hands 1st Cat à la Jug/Petrescu/Buquet (or previously his compatriots Estrada Fernández or Clos Gómez), and Hernández Hernández be in focus for a potential Elite promotion.

    3. @Quilava thank you for your words !

I fully agree with the fact that de Burgos had his best season: I was especially impressed in his handling of the Sevilla's derby in Copa del Rey: excellent human management and faultless foul detection, immense senerity considering the incidents which occured in the match, his performance was on a 8.8 level in my book.
Atletico-Getafe in LaLiga was also impressive: huge amount of KMI in a tense game, not always the right outcomes chosen but a very strong and clever officiating on a perception accuracy level.

BTW maybe you will be able to enlighten me: does the Vicente Acevedo trophy means that he finished 1st in LaLiga referees' ranking this year ?

I know for a fact that in France, a similar award is given, but is given by a vote from the referees themselves: it's more a courtesy than a reliable indicator of the best referee of the season.

Moreover RFEF-CTA sadly don't publish the annual referee ranking anymore, so I don't really found a way to answer my question.

    4. Yes, there are two 'relevant' referee trophies in Spain, the Vicente Acevedo and the Guruceta, that sometimes get confused each other.

Vicente Acevedo trophy is awarded by CTA-RFEF to the best referee and AR, the n°1 for them.

Guruceta trophy is more 'prestigious' among the general public but its ranking is based purely on MARCA journalists' personal marks for every referee performance during a season, so its meritocratic nature is more dubious.

    5. IMO, Hernandez Hernandez has achieved his current performance level in the last 2-3 years. Before that, I remember very poor performances by him in La Liga. De Burgos is still young, so he still has 2-3 years to improve, for that he need to start managing more mediatic matches in La Liga (he has not had any other "big" match in Spain since his very poor performance in the Clasico years ago). As Iturralde Gonzalez said some days ago, is not understandable that the referee awarded with the 1st place for CTA, only has managed one match between the first four qualified teams of Spain (Sevilla-ATM). Sounds strange...

  21. Reports now that referee boss Terje Hauge in Norway might leave the job soon after 7 years!

    Candidates to take over:

    - Dag Vidar Hafsås, Roy Helge Olsen or Espen Berntsen who are former FIFA referees, Eliteserien observers and very well respected. "Safe" choices. Berntsen and Olsen are also in the referee’s committee.

    - The female option, Marte Sørø, would be an interesting choice. Former FIFA referee now leading the women’s referee project and in the referees’ committee. Perhaps the stronges personality of all.

    - Geir Åge Holen, working as Hauge’s vice today, a former FIFA assistant referee and Eliteserien observer with a lot of experience and a good standing.

    - Jørn Thomas Smedsrud is the most unknown name, he is the other vice of Hauge in the NFF office. A very hard working, knowledgeful and dedicated person who has dedicated his life to refereeing despite finishing his career at a young age, in the 90s, as an Eliteserien assistant referee.

    - One final possibility is one of Tom Harald Hagen, Tore Hansen or Svein Oddvar Moen retiring to take over the position, the most likely probably the first (he lives much closer to Oslo, and already has a day job in the local association today).
