Wow: I did not see that coming, Oliver in Madrid. Great match for him.
ReplyDeleteCollum in Munich is not smaller surprise:)
DeleteWith 0-3, not great match.
ReplyDeleteYou please stop... It's a huge match for someone who has been just promoted this January!!
DeleteCollum in Munich
ReplyDeleteSkomina now sure for CL final?
ReplyDeleteAlmost, I think :/
DeleteThe game for Oliver is definitely something outstanding for him, as new Elite referee, directly in a CL quarterfinal. The fact that first leg ended 0-3 is not important. Given the background, this is a very big assignment for him. The signal that committee has a big trust on him, and the need to develop an English Elite at high level, following Atkinson and Clattenburg retirements.
ReplyDeleteSoham, I remember you always asked for that, now we can be sure about the fact that Oliver is clearly more favorite by committee than Taylor.
Surprise to see Collum as well, but the first leg score allows this choice, I think. I guess a not difficult game for the Scottish.
So the big news is that Mazic wont appear in Champions League before semifinals and so he is in Europa League again this week... in a way it is strange, because Ludogorets - Milan was a good performance, there were many appointments of the same referees in Champions League, he could have handled at least one game.
There could be only one reason for that, and you can guess...
Wonderful appointment for Michael Oliver and if he keeps developing like this he can be the best of all time in England... That said, I'm a bit disturbed by Mazic's absence... Certain referees have been very poorly managed this season!!
DeleteCollum is being observed by Trentalange... Something big coming up??
ReplyDeleteMaybe UEL final? All kinds of things could happen
DeleteIndeed... All sorts of strange and weird things are happening this season!!
DeleteAbout Oliver, after the big miss of an English referee at 2018 WC, one must also take into account that EURO 2020 will come soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure, UEFA is accelerating the process for Oliver also for this reason. He has now two seasons to make the needed experience before a big tournament.
He will be 35 at UEFA EURO 2020, it is really gigantic progress for referee who served 199 games at Premier league at his age
DeleteLooks like Taylor will remain more like a Fernandez Borbalan in the Elite group with no real chances of making a big tournament!!
DeleteWith 35 to have more then 200 PL games and very good developing.. He'll have more then 1000 games till he reach 45 years.. Hope he doesnt do the same as Clatenburg after he gets finals..
DeletePlease find the names of match officials appointed to UEFA Under-17 European Championship (England, 4 to 20 May 2018)

What I can say more if not again: many thanks. :)
DeleteMy pleasure :)
DeleteThanks Ray... Very happy to read Higler's name here!!
DeleteI have not seen Oliver much. But I can't stop feeling that this appointment goes more in the line of getting an English referee to the front line as soon as possible given that it has not been exactly good publicity for Premier League the fact that there aren't referees from England in the WC.
ReplyDeleteI see him every week and sooner or later such appointments had to be coming... I thought maybe next season but it has come already... There's not an iota of doubt that Oliver is one of the brightest prospects in modern refereeing these days... As I always say, the way he has developed in the last 5–6 years, if he can continue such development, he can one of the best of all-time given the amount of natural talent he is blessed with!!
DeleteI think you both are right in a sense.
DeleteIf you want the background to Oliver's rise in England (sorry long post upcoming).
His father, Clive, was a solid FL referee for many seasons and Michael inspired by him decided whistling matches was a better prospect for him than being a player at Newcastle United's academy.
At some point, the FA decided he was a talent and head of refereeing was Mr David Elleray. As you know in England, referees are basically really old, in the cases of Dowd, Moss, Wiley and some more that is good, but it does create a problem in terms of international refereeing.
Elleray had the idea to really push a group of four referees (Stuart Attwell, Geoff Eltringham, Michael Oliver and someone else who got injured) when they were very young and upcoming. Some went better than others...
Anyway Oliver always was a good manager, presenting himself on a level with players, but making quite a lot of crucial mistakes. He had a 'coming of age' in the FA Cup Quarterfinal, Manchester United - Arsenal, at least medially anyway.
My only fear is that Oliver is being pushed too early, and of course Mr Elleray is on the UEFA RefCom. He is the best English option at the moment, but I think having refereed every single PL top clash and now a CL Quarterfinal, I wonder what he actually has left (in terms of week-to-week motivation). I also think he needs time to adjust to the more direct style of refereeing demanded by UEFA, as Howard Webb did so excellently especially at the end of his career.
My favourite referee of all time is Stéphane Lannoy, and I think that attending WC 2010 (basically purely for nations politics) killed a fairly promising referee who needed time, and destroyed his confidence for quite a long while afterwards. I really hope the same does not happen to Oliver.
I think Mikael made a very good analysis.
DeleteLet's not forget that Oliver has the age factor on his side (compared to Taylor).
But he is FIFA since 2012 (6 years now) and that's a long time. Especially on his first years as FIFA referee has wasn't always good. Many crucial mistakes and if he didn't had the FA's backing, he would only reach First Group.
And I definitely don't agree that Taylor will become a Fernandez Borbalan. IMO such statements should be avoided. In my eyes, he is a far better referee than many on the Elite Group.
Fernandez Borbalan is not a bad referee and has been in the Elite group for quite some time but he hasn't been considered for important matches in KO phase... Similarly I think Taylor won't get too many too many big games in Europe because he makes way too many crucial mistakes and you can see that in the appointments as well... That's it, nothing more about it!!
Delete@Mikael By the time Oliver reaches the World Cup he will be 37 so I think he will experienced enough... He needs to continue his development well... Not necessarily he will be a Lannoy, he can be an Irmatov too... And once a referee gets all big games, the challenge becomes to keep up that level and work hard to maintain so that the quality of appointments remains at that high level!!
DeleteTbh, I haven't seen any crucial mistake made by Taylor so far. Also please we shouldn't open that line of discussion because I have the feeling that there are other criteria among referees when it comes to crucial mistakes.
DeleteI don't want to get into an argument either... I've seen enough of Taylor in PL, FA Cup, European games for past 3 years to pass a judgement and I firmly stand by it... Be it in terms of accuracy in decision making or be it in terms of natural talent, Taylor is miles behind in both... That's just my view and not necessarily anyone and everyone has to agree with it :)
DeleteTaylor does have black-outs sometimes, but I really like his firm approach at the moment. No tolerance for SFP tackles (in opposition to many of his PL colleagues).
DeleteWith regards to crucial mistakes, these will become a lot less relevant and other facets like personality and (yellow) card selection will be more important with the introduction of VAR in the next years.
I agree, Soham. And you have made perfectly clear that your favorite ref is Oliver. So you don't need to compare him to any other referee.
DeleteYou have stated your opinion and is accepted. But repeating an opinion many times should be avoided. Just a friendly advise.
One observation : The fact that so many names have repeatedly appeared in UCL KO stage but the Committee hasn't even trusted Karasev with 3 UCL matches in the entire season, let alone a CL KO match... And this clearly goes on to show how much undeserved Karasev's selection is and how greatly unfair it is for certain other referees like Collum for example!!
ReplyDeleteFor me,at least Karasev should get 1 game in UCL ko stage, but i think he won't be appointed again in UCL this season. Maybe surprising semifinal if the committee find a game that has already decided. About undeserved appointment,I can't think it too much, maybe (again) committee choice.
DeleteAlmost surely, Karasev won't get a SF after only 2 CL group games... Moreover no injury concerns, it was all performance related reason so makes it further difficult!!
DeleteMazic sure for CL finals before retiring?
ReplyDeleteRather unsure it seems... I don't think a referee will directly be given a final without any previous KO matches in UCL!!
DeleteHe can still get first leg SF then finals, or maybe we'll see him in UEL finals?
DeleteI don't know for sure... CL final is unlikely, except Mark Clattenburg in the last decade no CL final referee whistled a semi-final... So if Mazic gets a CL SF, he will most probably be out from CL Final... For CL final, I think Skomina is the favourite!!
DeleteI would expect Mazic to be appointed tomorrow (I would guess SAL-LAZ), then debut (!) in a Champions League Semifinal, before being sent to Lyon. Of course, only in case of good performances.
DeleteWhat about a certain Dutch referee?? I'm not taking any name so hope no one will be miffed with me :D
Delete:-D
DeleteI would hope to see him also :-)!
Now official: Jesús Gil Manzano will handle the Copa del Rey final.
ReplyDeleteReferee: Jesús Gil Manzano
AR1: Ángel Nevado Rodríguez
AR2: Juan Carlos Yuste Jiménez
4OF: Carlos del Cerro Grande
RAR: Roberto Alonso Fernández
Obviously, at this time he is the No. 1 in Spain
DeleteMateu Lahoz is not the no. 1 in Spain anymore?? :o
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThere isn't a clear "number 1" in Spain. There is a pool and all of them get important matches. In last years, they try not to repeat the referee in the final. Last year it was Clos Gómez (retiring), and before, del Cerro Grande, Velasco Carballo, Mateu Lahoz, Clos Gómez, Fernández Borbalán, Undiano Mallenco, Mejuto González, Medina Cantalejo and Undiano Mallenco. Only Undiano Mallenco and Clos Gómez have repeated in the last 10 years, with two finals each. Undiano has the chance to have another one next year as he is also retiring.
DeleteOf course, there is a ranking at the end of each season. Mateu Lahoz has not been the number 1 since 2014, I think. Last years they have been, if I'm not wrong, del Cerro, Hernández Hernández, González González and Mateu Lahoz (but I'm not sure).
George, in my opinion he 's n°1
DeleteAnd it is your rightful opinion. But in terms of appointments, there is not a clear number 1.
DeleteAll FIFA referees get very good appointments. For instance, Estrada with Real Madrid-Atlético, del Cerro with Barcelona-Valencia, Sánchez Martínez with el Clásico, Gil Manzano with cup final and Barcelona-Atlético, Mateu with Atlético-Barcelona, Fernández Borbalán with Atlético-Real Madrid, and so on. CTA trusts all of them and it is not very clear if someone is ahead of the others.
In other words, appointments are really well distributed and we'll rotated unlike UEFA who has to appoint same referee in both legs of a single round... Credit to CTA where it's due!! :)
DeleteGeorge, please are you spanish? you are an attentive observer. I am very attracted to the Spanish ref world
DeleteYes, I am, although not a referee anymore. The only info I have is the one provided officially or through the press (and my personal observation too, of course).
DeleteNice to meet you George, follow your thoughts soon.
DeleteI'm also Spanish, which referees do you expect to get relegated to Segunda?
DeleteAlthough you can expect almost everything with the "índice corrector" (corrective index), I think there are two clear candidates -Medié Jiménez and Iglesias Villanueva. I feel really sorry for the Galician one, because he had many notable and clear mistakes from his assistants in crucial matches like Barcelona-Valencia. It would be quite unfair if he gets relegated (would suppose his retirement because of age limit) and at least one of his assistants doesn't.
It will be very interesting to see which referees will get promoted from Segunda, as Álvarez Izquierdo and Fernandez Borbalán (if Sevilla hadn't reached the final he would have been surely in charge of the final instead of Gil Manzano) are retiring in June, so there will be 4 promotion places. There are some talented referees.
Anyway, it will be a good end of season for Spanish refereeing.
-Sánchez Arminio quits after 25 years in office. His successor will depend on who is the winner of Spanish FA Presidential elections that will be held on 17 May (Juan Luis Larrea or Luis Rubiales), because CTA President is directly appointed by President. The elections were to be held today, but Rubiales appealed to the TAD (High Administrative Court for Sport in Spain) because a single member of the assembly (Oscar de Marcos) could not go to Madrid and vote because today there's an Athletic-Villarreal. He wanted the match to be put-off, but TAD decided that elections were those who had to be put-off. FIFA and UEFA are just fed up of this case, cause RFEF is still provisionally ruled since Villar was arrested on July.
-Mateu Lahoz in World Cup.
-Overall a good season for FIFA refs, specially Gil Manzano (brilliant season, hope he will put the icing on the cake with a good performance on Copa del Rey final) and Sánchez Martínez (well managed Clásico in a tough game)
-We will have VAR next season, so the already low mistake-percentage will likely shrink more and more.
Greetings
I only expect one referee to be relegated at most. I guess Álvarez Izquierdo will fill the other spot. About who... difficult to say. I would not relegate Medié Jiménez because of a single match in his first season. Unlike Ocón Arraiz last year, he has still options of development. I also think that Iglesias Villanueva has a lot of trust, but to be honest I think he has been one of the worst this season so far. I don't follow LaLiga 123, so I don't really know who could be promoted.
DeleteAnd yes, it has been a good season for spanish refereeing in general. In fact, the most controversial decisions have been those ghost goals and that is hardly a failure of the referees but LFP's, given their decision to not implement goal-line technology.
-----
The same, emiro!
So I had a good feeling...
ReplyDeleteNo Mažić and Skomina for CL :)
Very happy to see Oliver in CL
You had one feeling accurate :D
DeleteThis is getting rather funny ... Now Vincic has been removed from his domestic appointment on Friday. Skomina nevertheless in EL?
ReplyDeleteSlovenian football federation is causing all sorts of confusion for us :D
DeleteThe web administrator must be one lazy man ;)
DeleteAll not well in Slovenian website, bad management by federation
DeleteWeb administrator is one man lazy :D
It's clear that PLC has learnt from his mistakes and gives a 2nd chance to both officials.
ReplyDeleteGiven that both matches are already decided, he had the chance to make such an experiment.
Bayern v Sevilla is not decided although it's highly likely that Bayern wins... What mistakes of Collina are you talking about here, btw?? :/
DeleteI was talking about mistakes on the past. Not here.
DeleteYes which mistakes of PLC?? That is what I'm asking :/
DeletePredictions for Europa League
ReplyDeleteSalzburg 2-4 Lazio, Mazic
Marseille 0-1 Leipzig, Skomina
Sporting 0-2 Atletico, Kuipers
CSKA Moskva 1-4 Arsenal, Zwayer
No Rocchi??
DeleteI was working on the premise that he would be saved for a direct CL Quarterfinal.
DeleteBut I could easily imagine him, especially in place of Kuipers.
DeleteMy predictions for EL:
Salzburg-Lazio, Sideropoulos.
O.Marseille-Leipzig, Eriksson
Sporting-Atlético, Mazic.
CSKA-Arsena, Zwayer.
@Mikael QF appointments are done :D I think you mean direct CL Semi-final for Rocchi :D
Delete@Alberto Eriksson has 0% chance after that shocking penalty award in Arsenal v Milan... His season is over!!
Yes indeed :-)
DeleteNot a crucial mistake surely :D Small point of improvement only :D :D
DeleteWhy Mažić never in CL KO stage so far? This is the question one should try to answer. Since there were many repetitive appointments for the same referees, the choice seems to be more than strange.
ReplyDeleteYes and as I said I'm disturbed with it... And in this context the double appointment of Brych in R16 looks even more strange and meaningless... World Cup bound referees being such poor practice before the tournament beggars belief at times!!
DeleteMon 16th Apr 2018
ReplyDeleteWest Ham United v Stoke City FC
Premier League
Referee: Michael Oliver
Assistant Referee: Stuart Burt
Assistant Referee: Dan Cook
Fourth Official: Craig Pawson
This will be the 200th Premier League match in the middle for Michael Oliver... Congratulations and hopefully he can keep adding many more to it :)
Congratulations to Marc Oliver, he's the present but even more in the future
DeleteDoes Oliver has his usual ARs like Webb had(Cann,Mullarkey)?
ReplyDeleteCurrently his European team has Simon Bennett and Stuart Burt as his ARs!! In England, we works most often with Bennett, Burt, Cook, Beswick and Hatzidakis... In England they don't have any fixed teams!!
Deletethank you,Soham!
DeleteIn Premier League, each referee is assigned five ARs whom they will be appointed with in the season.
DeleteMikael,thank you
DeleteCity-Liverpool, goal bad cancelled by Matéu Lahoz.
ReplyDelete*Mateu Lahoz :D
DeleteNot goal bad :D Goal was good :D :D
Delete
ReplyDeleteMatéu Lahoz always very bad.
Indeed a very bad performance at that level. Even a lack of psychological feeling of the match. Very riscfull to give this man important matches
DeleteWhat I dislike mainly about Mateu's style is that he makes the game all about himself... Even yesterday the eccentric theatrics, touching players sooo much, way too much mad gesturing... All that is apparently fun as long as it's backed up with good performances... Once a crucial mistake is made all these things come under even more criticism!!
DeleteOT
ReplyDeleteHicham Zakrani was excellent as Fourth Official last night in Rome, and it's not the first time that he has been good functioning in this role. And this left me pondering...
Who would be the best Fourth Official in the world?
I can remember excellent performances by Serge Gumienny (in BAR-INT he would have gotten the highest mark of all four officials!), Florian Meyer, Carlos López López and Bibiana Steinhaus. I am irritated by the passivity of Fourth Officials here in England, but Atkinson and Marriner seem best at exercising this role.
Any suggestions?
I'm wondering whether Michael Oliver is the youngest referee in a UEFA CL quarterfinal ever.
ReplyDeleteAt the age of 32, Michel had a QF in 2000 and Cakar in 1995 even had QF + SF.
DeleteIn recent years, Moen had a QF in 2012 only one month older than Oliver is now.
Eriksson says in an interview that FIFA told him that one of the reasons he didn’t got selected for the World Cup was due too his age. He says that FIFA for the first time is thinking ahead to the next World Cup with the referee selection. He also says that it’s not the top 10 European referees who’s going to the World Cup.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but if he really said that, he was not honest.
DeleteWhat about Kuipers, Rocchi and Mazic, who are older than him?
Of course the speech about top 10 referees is questionable, in this field everybody is entitled to have his opinion.
But I'm disappointed by such statements...
Eriksson seems to be experiencing a form of the Dunning–Kruger effect...
DeleteWhat is the Dunning–Kruger effect? :/
DeleteIf Eriksson has really said these words, I'm sorry to say but it's complete bonkers and the evidence to that has been provided by Chefren very well... Eriksson is just trying to hide his shortcomings by feeding the media with completely incorrect information... By the way is any link available to the interview?? :/
@Soham it’s in swedish, but here is the link: http://mobil.nsd.se/sport/besviken-arg-ledsen-frustrerad-och-irriterad-nm4807533.aspx
DeleteLet's see if I can decipher something using the Google translator :) Many thanks for the link :)
DeleteIn German TV the reporter just said, that William Collum is going to be the only British referee at the 2018 WC... How poorly informed the media are about referees. Incredible
ReplyDeleteIs he going to replace Szymon Marciniak or something? :o
DeleteIsn't there going to be referees chosen to be VARs?
DeleteExcellent onside by AR1 before Juventus goal.
ReplyDeleteWrong offside by AR2 that led to a goal for RMA in 13'
ReplyDelete14' in RMA - JUV: AR2 with a crucial offside call, goal disallowed. I think very tight but correct.
ReplyDeleteDifferent observations by Chefren and Jovan... Can we have some videos please? :)
DeleteIt looked like an extremely tight offside, however to be sure it should be rewatched.
Deletetight but i saw leg from Juve defender kept Isko onside..
DeletePjanic booked for holding in the midfield. Not blatant foul but supportable card.
ReplyDeleteCorrect YC to Carvajal for reckless challenge.
ReplyDeleteIn the replay of the first goal Atkinson just seems to be standing behind the goal not moving closer and take position like the AAR normaly do. No critic, just an intresting observation
ReplyDeleteWhat about the YC in 2' Munich? Still supportable or a mandatory DOGSO-RC?
ReplyDeleteSimply coin flip. You can't know whether Lewandowski would have been fast enough to avoid a second tackle with another defender. YC and RC because of DOGSO are both supportable.
Delete34’: offside (tight but clear) missed by Bennett against Isco.
ReplyDelete45' : Real Madrid penalty appeal waved away by Oliver... Correct decision at first glance!!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHe dealt with the rising pressure excellently and has stayed very calm and unimpressed.
DeleteI think he could be a little more sociable, but his firm distant approach seems to suit his optic.
Atmosphere could get yet hotter...
Little bit firmness and distance works well, Mikael :)
DeleteOliver is one referee good ;)
DeleteWe need to wait for one confirmation proper from our one blogger reputed Alberto :D :D
DeleteSoham :DDDD
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpUj973V5I4
ReplyDelete0:16 disallowed goal for RMA
This is not a straight angle so unfortunately can't say anything from this... We have to wait for a better clip, I'm sure Ray will get it for us 🤠
DeleteIf mistake, almost impossible to detect. Isco by his body blocked ARs view and from ARs position it was offside.
DeleteThe SPA vs DOGSO incident from Bayern - Sevilla.
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/nlbwe
Considering the large distance yet to cover between the striker and the goal, I tend towards SPA :)
DeleteFor me DOGSO and red card. Lewa had control of the ball, he would clearly reach it and would be alone in front of GK.
DeleteIn 12' Collum gave good advantage, but after that missed at least YC (rather orange, for studs) for foul on Lewandowski.
In my opinion RC, attacker would heva reached and controlled te ball, having an OGSO.
DeleteRC for me, I admit it's difficult, but...
DeleteRC for me, too.
DeleteReal Madrid asking Oliver for a second YC to Mandzukic, but in my opinion OK to whistle without issuing it.
ReplyDeleteDealt well with the immense pressure applied by Real Madrid players... This a fairly difficult game for Oliver!!
DeleteCommittee never expected that, something like Aytekin one year ago, but so far Oliver definitely good...
DeleteCould Oliver ever expect such a big eventful debut in CL QF in his very first season as Elite referee?? :)
DeleteNo easy game in CL KO stage, no matter 1st leg result. Everyone should know that. Sometimes it is much easier to handle final, than 1/8 final match, one never knows what kind of match could be.
DeleteCollum excellent management of players so far. Can anyone make clips? Good Management in 52nd of SEV 11 and BAY 26 as well as in 54th between SEV 10 and BAY 8. Really good job so far
ReplyDeleteWill cut these situation for you this night.
DeleteYou can add possible 2nd YC for Nzonzi in 76' :)
DeleteThanks Ray :) I was wondering if you could tell me how you make these clips, so I would be able to do so as well.
DeleteThanks, Philipp, just give me the minutes of interesting incidents.
DeleteSpiritofTheGame, I record it live using a bandicam or download a game and cut situations with Avidemux programme.
Other incidents are
Delete15' + 48' possible penalties SEV
and of course the RC
Minute 72 Costa (juventus) SFP. Studs right on the calf with force.
ReplyDeleteSorry but I'm more than satisfied with a YC... Not enough force at all for me!!
DeleteForce doesn’t even matter. Studs right on the calf straight leg. Endagers the safety. No attempt to play the ball even. My opinion.
DeleteI'm more lineant ;)
DeleteWhat I don't like about Oliver this evening is a certain tendency to delay the showing of a card. One can have the (wrong) feeling that he is influenced by players who are protesting. It happened when he booked Alex Sandro, but also in first half, when YC are clear, he should not hesitate. He should always book as he did in 73' with Douglas Costa. But maybe this is a habit of English officials... I know that he already wanted to show all the cards he issued.
ReplyDeleteThe ex-referees in England are always adamant that referees should give themselves more thinking time before reaching any decision... I've seen Poll, Hackett and Halsey repeatedly give such advice to Oliver when earlier he rushed a bit with his decisions... In this match also I think more often than not, Oliver did have the card out and then calmly dish it out slightly late :)
DeleteYeah, it's common with English referees. Their motto is often "take your time". Watching EPL games you can observe how calm and phlegmatic they are at mass confrontations, etc.
DeleteAt the end, it's really nice that we have Mateu Lahoz on the one hand and Oliver, Brych on the other hand in elite group. :)
Diversity is great ;)
DeleteHaving in mind the DFB verdict, I sincerely hope the YC to Marcelo won't be rescinded by UEFA ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Tobias Stieler incident? :/
Delete84' Possible reckless challenge by Vallejo? No card by Oliver.
ReplyDeleteWell, with these results: Very unfortunate Antonio Mateu Lahoz. Indeed he would have been in the race for the final again if there wasn‘t this single offside call...
ReplyDeleteand couple of missed YC that could lead to couple RC.
DeleteAntonio Mateu Lahoz will be very sad in case of eliminations for all Spanish teams... he spoiled himself.
ReplyDelete91' Collum missed clear foul just in front of Sevilla's PK area and YC for guest player.
ReplyDelete90+3' : Ugly scenes at Madrid :o Penalty whistled by Oliver... Excellent, superb call by Oliver... Buffon manhandled Oliver and is sent off!!
ReplyDeleteGreat call: advantage + red card to Corea - absolutelly corect by Collum
ReplyDeleteTHE MOST IMPORTANT CALL OF MICHAEL OLIVER'S CAREER.
ReplyDeleteSorry for capital letters, but that's epic.
This has to be a 8.7 or more ;) I can't even sit down ;)
DeleteEpic and correct. That's personality.
DeleteCorrect??? Missed YC for Ronalfo undressing.
DeleteI feel very sorry for Buffon. He deserved to win CL, and Juve deserved to pass through. Real always has enormous amount of luck.
DeleteAccording to uefa.com Ronaldo was got his YC for undressing.
DeleteThx for that info, since it was not seen during the play.
DeleteAnd missed RC for Benatia...
DeleteWellll for me very debatable PK. I always ask the same question: would any other team except Real Madrid receive such a penalty in 93'? I don't think so.
DeleteWhen you are in doubt - always in favor of Real - that's something we are seeing in CL for years! That is my opinion in you can consult many other blogs - people are saying the same.
Barca got it in 95min last year...
DeleteSorry Teo but that's a 100% legit, stonewaller penalty... Any referee not whistling it would've been wrong... Don't smell conspiracy theories everywhere in everything, it's a very bad habit!!
DeleteThe same goes for Barca.
DeleteSorry for me not 100 % and nobody would have talked about that situation if Oliver didn‘t whistle the PK
DeleteNo mistake but also not a great decision
I partly agree with Teo. I will never want to believe that a referee decides something based on the shirt of the player, that's the part where I disagree. But I agree about the penalty. I have MANY doubts. Both players go for the ball. Yes, Benatia puts his leg in front of Lucas Vázquez, but not in a manner in which he trips him. I think it is a fair challenge, both with the leg and with the body. Lucas was absolutely going to the ground, even if no contact at all had occurred.
DeleteOh, and to add: Cristiano Ronaldo should have been booked a long while before for simulation. Three situations in the penalty area which were not penalty, he fell too easily and even asked for penalty.
DeleteAgree guys. When i see replay from behind the goal, i’m not really convinced about a potential foul. But we have to be honest. At natural speed of football playing, normal decision to whistle PK. But sorry, pushing meant RC for Benatia, as Piqué was too.
DeleteAll credits for Real, but should I start to count here debatable (rather wrong) crucial decisions, all in favor of Real, only in last 2 years? You could name it as conspiracy theory, but simply it is truth. It can not be coincidence - Real is the biggest club on the world ant that should be "normal". I don't ask you to think same I do, but believe me - millions of people are with me.
DeleteNever a penalty in a million years. Defender knows that his opponent is coming and decides to fell. The fall is so easy.
DeleteA mistake that affects qualification.
Fully agree. It is not nice to see that some players are special also for booking
DeleteI’m pretty sure there have been decisions that went against them as well during that time period, but *it’s* always better to pick and choose to suit your narrative.
DeleteBut also related to the penalty; it is not so 100% stonewall penalty for me please take into account that force ftom behind was really border to fall like”bitcoin “
DeleteName one crucial Dani, and for every crucial mistake against Real I will immediately name 5 in favor of it. And that only in last two years. If we go further in past...
Delete90+2 Red Card and Collum slightly losing control now. Maybe to relaxed and lenient in the second half
ReplyDeleteSorry but disagree. As Clément Turpin has to exclude Piqué, Benatia must be red carded too (almost at minimum second YC).
ReplyDeleteBenatia tried to play the ball. Look from the angle behind the goal. Pique didn't.
DeleteYou whistle penalty for pushing, and that's intention to play the ball?
DeleteNo Teo. If there is pushing, it’s Red card. And at minimum YC. So automatically RC.
DeleteIf there is pushing... Is there??? Just a small one, and Benatia tried to play the ball with his left leg. I don't know if Oliver gave a penalty for pushing or for alleged kicking.
DeleteTeo...never for kicking because Lucas felt down before allegated foul with leg. So this was pushing...
DeleteGreat decision in 90+3 to award a penalty to Real. But why no red card for the offender, Benatia?
ReplyDeleteLet's talk about reality, guys.
ReplyDeleteYou whistle that penalty, in that moment, with under 20 seconds left in the match and then face abuse and assault that requires you to send off the goalkeeper and the captain of the defending team.
How many referees in the world are going to ALSO go back and then send Benatia off, too?
If you can honestly say that a lot of Elite referees would, then you can criticize Oliver.
But I don't think you can.
It's not objectively correct. But it's reality.
I understand your point. But Benatia had to be sent off. And Buffon too because he pushed Oliver. That’s reality too. Easy to say i know but he ´s an Elite ref.
DeleteExcellent Oliver, his approach to allow tough but fair tackless led to high speed and dynamics of the game and number of chances to score, but equally important, prevented (well known Italian and Spanish) players to dive, lay down and waiste time. Need to see the PK again, but at the moment, dare to say it was not in line with foul detection criteria held during the match,i.e. no PK. Obvious communication with AAR (which is a positive action) and slight delay in decision making makes me doubt the rightness of the PK call. My mark 7.9 (8.7)
ReplyDeleteNo way this is penalty in 93rd minute for anyone except Real and Barcelona
ReplyDeletePerhaps, but this is all just speculation. If this had happened the other way would it have been given? If two different teams were involved would it have been given? Who’s to say? Well, unless you subscribe to conspiracy theories.
DeleteIncredible interview by Agnelli, Juventus president.
ReplyDeleteHe is against Oliver, he wants immediately VAR in Champions League, he also blamed Collina and he wished that committee could be changed soon.
I'm known for posting strongly worded posts criticizing referees. However the words that I am feeling and that I would use to describe the situation would be below me. Oh well. It is what it is. #LebronStatus
