There has been a switch of observers between IRL - SRB and CRO - SVN.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Turpin was originally appointed for the game in Dublin.
Quite normal appointments I think. Palabiyik with a rather weak match for a referee with CL experience. Big names in the two most important matches by current standings.
ReplyDeleteUnusual, that Israel gets two German referees in a row - maybe one of them was a replacement?
Kempter is another example for a non-FIFA AR - which could indicate that another German team (Siebert?) will work on Wednesday (Schiffner and Seidel are currently injured).
How strange 3rd German appointment for Israel in 6 matches. Aytekin v Scotland(H), Zwayer v Austria(H) and Stieler v Denmark(A)
DeleteThis doesn’t seem normal especially since German official again 2 matches in a row.
Good luck for Aytekin in FRA-FIN.
ReplyDeleteFrench press didn't forgot the "remontada" 5 years ago in FCB-PSG.
Obviously a bit biased as a Finn, but I feel this had an effect on him. It was a horrible decision to not give a penalty to Finland in the end (or even properly VAR check it). Clear contact by Pogba, which messes with Pukki's shot.
DeleteOn a more subjective level, I also feel like French players got off a bit easier. Two very rough tackles, but only verbal warnings to the French players.
Don't worry. I am french and I agree with you. Terrible decision.
DeleteIn France, all journalists said : "It was a clear pen".
I don't understand why committee have such trust in Kabakov. For me he is very unstable, sometimes good matches but other times just inexplicable decisions. I still remember Midtjylland vs Young Boys Champions League qualifier from last year (no VAR in this round), there was very dangerous lunge from Swiss player on Danish attacker with the ball nowhere near, it was a "tackle" that would be a red even in the 70-s/80-s. Kabakov saw it perfectly... and issued just a yellow. Unbelievable! Also Antwerp vs Rangers 6 moths ago was a very chaotic match by him, no consistency in the decisions at all.
ReplyDeleteStrongly disagree with you, anty. Kabakov many times proved to be a strong manager for FIFA (ARGPAR U17, BRAMEX in Tokyo), UEFA (ottomh Club Brugge vs. Salzburg, et al.) and even BFU where I guess - understandably (!) - you didn't watch those games. It is true though, he had a weaker 20/21 in Europe.
DeleteOf course we all know that scene you posted is a clear RC - and UEFA internally stated that too - but when governing bodies essentially try to remove SFPs for 'tackles as an attack' entirely, I can't really blame this Bulgarian referee that much for that one decision.
Yes I didn't watch those FIFA matches, if he was excellent there then I can understand this appointment. Austria vs Scotland is a very important match for the fight to finish second, hopefully he 'll come good!
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPmvOhS3mqU&t=325s Watch from 4:53, how can you give just a yellow for this?
ReplyDeleteLots of Spanish referees in this WC qualifiers window.
ReplyDeleteIRL-SRB is a very good game for Sánchez Martínez IMO, and also AUT-SCO (Kabakov), one could have expected Elite referees there.
That does not only count for Spanish referees. It seems like UEFA is determinded to appoint as many referees as possible from countries with VAR experience, either in their home countries or at least in the UCL.
Deletedetermined
DeleteIsrael with German referees for the second game in a row. Stegemann VAR in their game for the second game as well. Feels like this could have been avoided imo
ReplyDeleteOT: I thought Oshane Nation (JAM) had a really good performance in USA-Canada. Disciplinary control was spot on (especially impressive in CONCACAF!) and I loved his body language. Some big moments: excellent advantage on the 1-0 goal, great work probably by the 4O Reon Radix (GRN) to spot the YC to Tyler Adams, and good no-penalty decision later in the game when Tajon Buchanan went down.

Delete@David
ReplyDeleteOsimhen appeal has been accepted, the ban has been reduced to 1 matchday and the player will be eligible for next game. The detailed motivations should be published soon, it is reported that referee has been heard again before final decision. I guess they assessed that it wasn't what referee had exactly described (a full violent conduct).
thank you Chefren. Who makes this decision? In England, it's a referee, an ex-player and someone else. So it happens sometimes, that the reduction does not make much sense for a referee. I remember Vestegaard vs. Vardy (RC) was rescinded, and I thought you could have given a RC for the tackle and for DOGSO..
DeleteThe appeal has been discussed by the National Sports Court of Appeal, it is a body inside FIGC, mostly jurists, often experts in sports law. No referees and/or former players.
DeleteThat is very weird for me. Why should they be able to make a better judgement than the referee? What are your thoughts on this?
DeleteJoke of a decision from Georgi Kabakov booking SCO 10 Adams nothing in it at all
ReplyDeleteNow correct penalty after OFR. Clear holding offence. Question arises if a second yc could/should have been given for Austrian defender? I think ok with no card but the defender is lucky…
DeleteI agree certainly nothing in it and Austria #4 should be sent off now for 2 YC
DeleteI also agree regarding SCO#10.
DeleteGood use of VAR at the penalty. Not so easy to spot in real time, but with the replays the clear holding became obvious.
2nd YC for it is not that clear IMO. I think, it wasn't (clear) SPA because of the direction of the players. Then, one can still caution a player for unsporting behaviour for blatant holding - but IMO not the typical situation for it. So yes, a YC is more expected there, but not mandatory for me.
should clearly be a second YC for AUT4
ReplyDeleteOrsato with an outstanding performance so far till now. Correct all the ycs issued (4 IIRC) and now a PK in favour of Netherlands with a strange dynamic: the foul is committed when the ball is going to a player in offside position. The foul is previous the offside position so correct PK. Also physically talking, Orsato seems to have recovered after EURO's problems.
ReplyDeleteIf someone else is seeing, let me know your thoughts.
I'm watching the game and I fully agree, one of the best recent performaances so far, however regarding the penalty foul on player who had passed the ball to a teammate in offside, but when the contact occurred, the ball was close to player in offside and one could say that the offside was materialized in abstract at the same time of the foul on the other player.
DeleteSo what happens in this scenario? I admit that I'm not 100% sure but penalty looks the very correct and expected decision.
Now a clear, blatant, crystal 2nd YC to Suyuncu. Nothing to say about it, just it's a +0,10 ;)
DeleteVideo:
Deletehttps://streamye.com/vczvt
Excellent first half from Orsato
DeleteRegarding offside, I would say, even without the foul, the correct decision would have been to play on, because the defender got the ball without intervention of the attacker.
DeleteSo the offside never materialized and the penalty is correct.
Soyuncu’s first caution after causing the penalty is a rather inappropriate sanction IMO. There’s no promising attack stopped (as the ball was already passed) nor was the sliding tackle of a reckless nature.
DeleteGood point, I agree with that.
DeleteAnd even for SPA, it would not be a YC, because the tackling was ball-orientated.
I think that for reckless challenge the decision can be supported.
DeleteKabakov penalty (foul is shown after penalty execution):
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/p9bz1b
He's having a stinker. Missed a penalty for austria. Literally thrown to the ground and nothing.
DeleteYep, I think this half time break will be good for him, seems like he was losing control.
DeleteI think, if Kabakov sees that correctly, he gives a penalty for Austria there, given the context with the penalty on the other side.
DeleteAs isolated incident, it probably was just not clear enough for the VAR, because there is no holding or pushing but "only" blocking with the outstretched arm.
In my opinion the penalty to Scotland should have been whistled directly by himself, he was well positioned. I wait for further videos from different cameras, but in a scenario of a holding in the box (not a genuine attempt to play ball), NO CARD is a rare decision.
DeleteShould be only supportable in case, I think, the perception is that a YC should have been issued for SPA.
Good VAR intervention from Dimitriou in first half extra time of Norway-Gibraltar after a penalty given to Norway for handball. Arm was clearly in a natural position and Neokleous rightly corrected his error
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed. Good intervention for a subjective decision - I am afraid, not every VAR would have done that on UEFA level.
DeleteCan't find a video, I read that the arm was in support for the player on the ground. In this scenario, what Philipp writes is right, we have always seen such penalties supported by VAR, so "brave" decision from VAR, I'm curious to see.
DeleteOrsato has lost the badge, the FIFA patches and he is now a man in full black.
ReplyDeleteAnybody an idea why the VAR needed so long to confirm the Dutch 4th goal? To me it was quite clear that there could not be an offside offence. Something else to check?
ReplyDeletePossible goal scored by arm I think, looking for the best camera behind the goal.
DeleteAh yes, that should be the reason.
DeletePenalty for BIH (71'): Not the clearest foul; some pulling at a set piece with a delayed fall. But certainly a supportable decision an no VAR stuff.
ReplyDeleteVery, very soft penalty by Ygal Frid in BIH-KAZ in Min71. IMO a wrong decision, but VAR supported the Penalty after a 3min30sec check. Very strange situation.
ReplyDeleteHandball penalty for RUS (82'): I am not too convinced by it, because the arm seems to be stretched out due to the ball contact, not before it. But not completely clear.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore the referee booked the wrong player first, and then corrected it after a few seconds (without really making clear that the first player wasn't booked anymore), probably after input by the AR.
Strange decision to allow this 6-1.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, the goal should have been disallowed IMO. Defender slides in clearly hitting Van Dijk on the foot and it’s Van Dijk playing the bal to the attacker’s leg instead of the attacker playing the ball. For me e clear foul in APP.
DeleteBIH - KAZ penalty by Frid:
ReplyDeletehttps://streamja.com/yNEzm
Was the referee looking at the fouled player?
Strange late reaction with that whistle...
Fantastic onside decision in 90+4' before a goal for 3-0 in Cro-Svn.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise easy game for Turpin and his team, no problems at all.
93' Very harsh handball and free kick in promising position to Austria. Kabakov rather unconvincing all evening unfortunately
ReplyDeleteAlso in the second half there was a shoulder to the head barge from Arnautović, very dangerous and clearly deliberate. Should have been a red or at least VAR should have advised Kabakov to watch it again.
DeleteRUS - MLT
ReplyDeletePenalty by Palabiyik for handball.
https://streamja.com/W60qE
Still not clear in my opinion. Maybe VAR supported missing the evidence of the contrary.
Looks lilke a PK to me, as it didn't hit the front arm (tucked in), but the other arm (behind)
DeleteIn Azerbaijan - Portugal (played at 18:00) there were two pitch invasions, the first one a few minutes before 90' and then the second immediately after final whistle. What was shocking was that nobody from security intervened in the first case and the invaders left the pitch by themselves after having asked players for taking some pictures. Then, another strange thing was that this invasion was fully shown by cameras, contrary to UEFA and FIFA guidelines to avoid such incidents to be aired.
ReplyDelete93' Russia-Malta
ReplyDeletePhantom goal? Neither GLT nor VAR went for goal here:
https://twitter.com/rostovfc/status/1435343161447026703/photo/1
There is no clear evidence. It is correct to support the decision on the field. There was an angle that looks as if the ball did not pass the line completely.
DeleteAfter more than 3 years (Inter - Juventus April 2018), finally Daniele Orsato will officiate again FC Internazionale. Time has come, on Sunday he will referee Sampdoria - Inter. This choice has been made by Rocchi, I would easily say that it was Rizzoli that until the last season didn't want this to happen again... and I must say finally everything has changed.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, really finally, but I wanted to ask in your opinion with the designation for a match on Sunday at 12:30, do you think he will be designated in the Champions League? I also say that one of his assistants is him in Genoa and the other is AVAR on Monday in Bologna if I'm not mistaken
ReplyDeleteI don't think that he will get CL on next week, because then it would mean having three games in less than a week and this would be too much. I guess we will see him rather on MD2.
DeleteTo add, Chiffi appointed for Milan - Lazio should confirm that he is the first candidate for FIFA badge in 2022. My prediction about Italian FIFA list is Valeri out and Chiffi in. The spot was about to be taken by La Penna, but then you know what happened...
Ok grazie Chefren, Chiffi avevo immaginato che potesse diventare internazionale, si so cosa è successo a La Penna...
