  1. Surprised Andy Madley (England) got quite a big game. Latvia vs Holland. Believe its his debut in qualifying. Does that mean we'll see Coote and Bankes (both England) at some point.

  2. Russia with the third Spanish referee in the last 5 games.

Rather weak matches for Oliver, Sidiropoulos and Frankowski, while I agree, that Madley gets a quite good game for his debut.
Important match for Aytekin, he seems to back in "real Elite".

Rest are normal appointments, I think.

  3. so taylor will handle nations league final ..

  4. Matching two different information, we have the proof that VAR for Cakir was replaced by UEFA.
Romanian Federation had revealed some days ago the appointment:
Cüneyt Çakır va fi ajutat de conaționalii săi Bahattin Duran și Tarik Ongun, alături de al patrulea oficial Alper Ulusoy, în vreme ce arbitrajul VAR va fi în sarcina lui Abdulkadir Bitigen și Huseyin Gocek.

Reporting Bitigen as VAR, now you can see that Kalkavan is appointed.
So a signal that indeed the final decision in Milan was wrong.

    1. Chefren,
How do you read this appointment then?
Considering that it is probably made before the match in Milano, and the committee didn't change it afterwards, they only changed the VAR team.

IMHO, I think RefCom is overall satisfied with his performance in the field otherwise I wouldn't expect another appointment that early. What are you thoughts?

Can we assume that the committee is overall satisfied with Cakir's performance in Milano and the last minute mistake was considered as pure VAR mistake?

      Delete
    2. Yes, this is the most likely analysis we can make, based on what we can see. It is impossible to deny that overall Cakir did well in Milan, in my opinion he had a quite good performance, I liked all his decisions and the control of the game. Regarding the final call, surely he can't be blamed at all because handballs are always difficult to detect and understand, so maybe committee wanted more by VAR in that case.
Apart from that, I can't remember any single fault for Cakir.

    3. Bitigen was VAR by Galatasaray - Rizespor in turkish Superlegague. After big mistake(s) the turkish referee commision banned Referee Ali Palabiyik and Abdulkadir Bitigen for 4 weeks. Maybe this is the reason for the replacement by Cakir-Team

      Delete
    4. @BarisA. Bitigen was incredible in Rize. I think something was said to him because of the match in Milan. Because his concentration was zero.

  5. Big appointment for Aytekin. This match could determine the PO spot.

Weak match for Oliver, even worse for Sidiropoulos. MLT-SVN could go to a First Group referee or even a Second Group one.

    1. Not so important. Both teams will go to PO, one as 2nd place, one from Nations League. From Nations league there will be 2 teams in PO: Austria and Wales/Czech.

  6. OT:
Miloš Gigović and Antoni Bandić are new referees from Bosnia who are suggested to be internationals. Bilbija, Kaljanac and Peljto (Cat1, soon Elite?), they are also there.

Miloš Gigović is one of the most controversial referees in Bosnia. Ylu can Google his name and read many articles. He is so, so bad.

Bandić has one very bad decision few years ago and he was punished by 2 years out from the Bosnian Premier League. Now he is right next to the Peljto.

Bilbija deserves to stay int. referee more than Kaljanac.

  7. I'm regretted that at this stage Brych will not be recognized with NL Final match

    ReplyDelete
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that Felix Brych being that he's soon gonna stop he wasn't going to take International matches.

I also noticed that Danny Makkelie didn't have any matches recently which I thought that It's a bit weird being that he is considered one of the best.

    Any thoughts? :)

    1. I thought Brych will stop after 2021.

Makkelie had a game in Dutch second league last Friday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSTRwzqaBAg
I don't think this is a punishment (FIFA refs are often appointed in Dutch 2nd league) but maybe NL ref watchers can tell :)
Internationally I think we saw Makkelie on MD1 (CL). And on MD2 we only saw refs that were not appointed on MD1. Nothing strange I guess :)

      Delete
    2. No punishment indeed. Every referee has to whistle some matches at the second division every year

      Delete
    3. Thanks :) already thought so. It also looked like a potentially hot game in the video, with the fireworks etc

In general, it must be a real benefit for Makkelie working at the police. They face tough situations in daily life. He usually keeps his head cool in big matches when the tension is high

      Delete
    4. Indeed in my opinion a factor that contributed to Makkelie success in his international career is his job.

  10. Looks as though VAR will be coming to the Scottish Premiership. Likely not next season given the time it would take to train officials. Only 3 referees are currently trained in it according to bbc. Collum, Madden and Beaton.
However I have noticed that Scottish cup competition rules this year mention using VAR in the semis and final so possible well see it this season in the cup

  11. LATVIA - NETHERLANDS
    Assistant Referee 1: Lee Betts
Assistant Video Assistant Referee: Neil Davies

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Very late change. Probably injury in the warm up.

      Delete
    2. That seems unlikely, because where should Neil Davies come from on such a short notice? In case of a late injury one could rather expect a switch between Betts and Hussin.

      Delete
    3. Betts was assigned to be a AVAR in the Nations League on Sunday. Davies must have been flown in from England.

      Delete
    4. PGMOL had reported this change earlier in the day on their Instagram, so seems likely that it was done a few days ago and just not communicated.

  12. Cakir with a penalty for Germany in the early minutes. VAR in my opinion should confirm, but not a very clear call.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. OFR now. I think because there was very few contact. And Cakir takes back the PK, correctly I think.

      Delete
    2. I don't see any legs contact, maybe a slightly push with hand.

      Delete
    3. Cakir was called by Kalkavan, Cakir after a long review changed decision. I think that, based on VAR protocol, this OFR is wrong, but looking at the soft penalty whistled, a good decision for the game.

      Delete
    4. I‘m curious what UEFA thinks of that. Based on what we saw during EURO, I think it was wrong to call Cakir over for the OFR. (It is a similar situation like the Sterling PK against Denmark.)
But in my eyes the final outcome was correct and better for the game.

  13. Andorras var tomorrow might be out of action as a fire has damaged the monitor apparently.

  14. Germany - Romania is the game selected by Italian brodcaster today for WC qualifiers, commentators are blaming Cakir from the kick off, reporting all his previous games with Italian teams and just whishing to not see him again. Then the OFR happened and they continued to talk against him. That's shocking and I absolutely disagree with such words.

  15. In german TV Cakir is well accepted and praised for the PK decision, even if it wasn‘t in favor of the german national team.

  16. 42' Possible RC for SFP in GER-ROM; Cakir issues a YC, supportable decision I think.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 45' Possible 2ndYC for the same player now (reckless stamp); I would have liked a stronger warning but no card is sensible.

      Delete
    2. Yes, a warning would have been nice. As a signal to team and player and also to sell a possible 2YC later on.

      Delete
    3. All in all, a good first half by Cakir; penalty IMO correctly overturned (German media sees the decision as clearly correct), otherwise not too much to report..

      Delete
    4. Yes. Not much trouble for Cakir. He is well accepted by players, one can feel his reputation.
But second half could become hot and therefore more difficult.

      Delete
    5. Second half didn't offer too much room for discussion as well IMO, simply solid/expected level refereeing by Cakir tonight.

      Delete
  17. #23ROM is on thin ice now. Here I missed a strong warning by Cakir.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I wasn't watching the match with full concentration and am happy to be corrected by someone who was, but I saw a strong 1H by Felix Brych in Istanbul:

    - prepared, preventative start with clear warnings, took the initiative in the game
    - interesting penalty appeal at 31'/32', Brych missed a running-too-close tripping on Yilmaz, but I think the contact was outside, also what Brych seemed to gesticulate what VAR Fritz told him; worth a rewatch
    - Norway's equaliser was correctly played onside by Stefan Lupp
    - good verbal warning at 45', no caution, challenge was only late and careless

In general Brych very well accepted with his experience and in control.

  20. Penalty after OFR, LIE - MKD, Bartosz Frankowski (POL)

    1. Quite clearly wrong IMO; the attacker puts his leg there unnaturally on purpose because he sees that the defender is in a unstoppable movement to kick the ball away; the contact is totally 'accidental'/unambigious..
I don't know whether committee has a different approach regarding these scenes but this one is NEVER VAR material for me

      Delete
    2. IMO the attacker doesn’t put his leg there to earn the penalty, but to play the ball. He actually, and clearly, plays the ball before the (slight) contact. Nevertheless this is no penalty for me and especially no intervention.

      Delete
    3. I understand what you mean, defender is already trying to kick ball, then attacker puts leg there (with intention or not) and contact occurs. So, clear penalty or not? You can hear the commentator who says "clear penalty", according to most of people, having such contact is enough to assess as penalty because factual situation. But if we indeed analyze the action, we find that this is not defender's fault.
I think that it becomes a difficult topic, because these assessments can be different country by country, for example in Italy most of people don't make such deep analysis, they just look at contact, so they would agree with Polish VAR there.
However for sure we can say that VAR will be never perfect, we all can have very different ideas about what is a clear and obvious mistake and what not.

      Delete
    4. The fact that the attacker clearly plays the ball makes this a clear PK for me. In other instances (SVKESP in Euros) it's a different story IMO.

  21. For the sake of completeness:
In CYP-CRO the first goal by CRO (23') was disallowed for offside after a rather long check.
And the penalty for CRO (53') was given directly by Oliver and looks supportable - although it's a bit hard to determine the exact offence.

    1. Penalty: https://streamja.com/XQM64
Disallowed goal (player who made assist was offside): https://streamja.com/EZAzb

I think indeed the penalty is questionable, not clear what exactly referee punished but VAR was right in supporting.

      Delete
    2. GIB-MNE: Penalty to MNE (41') for a reckless challenge by the GK was correctly given by Glova

      Delete
    3. MLT-SVN: Second goal (49') given by VAR after the initial decision was offside.

  25. Hi viewers online, I'm here to share my testimony about how I was helped to get my husband back. I was a cheat and my husband caught me several times. I tried fixing myself and each time I ended up cheating over and over again. I guess I didn't realize what he meant to me until he had left me alone. I began to find a way to get him back but nothing seemed to work out perfectly until I came across an article about Lord Zulu who helped a lot of people globally to get their relationships back. I made contact with him and he assured me that my husband will come back to me within 48 hours with his powerful magic. After I did all he asked me to do. Surprisingly, my husband came back home after 2 days saying that he still loves me and I swore never to cheat on him anymore. All thanks to Lord Zulu. You can have a chat with him on his WhatsApp number or you can contact him on +1(909) 781-4612.
