Good game for Sánchez Martínez
ReplyDeleteQuite surprising to see Aytekin here, who had his last domestic game at the end of February.
ReplyDeleteDel Cerro Grande and Orsato completely missing from the quarterfinals in all competitions is another surprise (unless there are specific reasons like injuries).
So Makkelie is going to get UCL Final, 90%

DeleteI would say all will be tough to officiate cause it's elimination match, but in my mind the toughest ones for sure are going to Aytekin and Makkelie.

ReplyDeleteGiving the extremely poor level of refereeing and even worse management by the committee I wouldn't completely rule out Orsato's appointment for the CL final for the second time. At least, it would be truly deserved.

ReplyDeleteOrsato is injured, he has been appointed for the third time in serie A only as VAR. For sure some choices in Champions League have changed due to him out. I would dare to say he was planned for Real - Chelsea.
ReplyDeleteComing to this set of assignments for Conference League, I think that it will be a very hot game for Makkelie and that's the most sonorous assignment, considering Marciniak for first leg as well.
To follow, Sánchez Martínez in Rome. Still, I think nobody could have expected such a first leg, let's see what will happen. Quite convinced that Roma should easily managed a win, but you never know.
Observer, Garibian, never changed, he was appointed, like all the others, before first legs, so we can't say whether there was a change only for referee, but I don't think so. The assignment is similar to Gozubuyuk, new Elite, in first leg in Norway.
Normal appointment for Aytekin, about the fact that he was out from Bundesliga for a long time, no matter for committee in this competition, but he wouldn't have got an Europa League game, in case.
Bastien in Eindhoven with a good assignment for him as well.
When Orsato was entrusted with Sweden-Poland, I wrote that I found it strange that the Italian referee would direct five matches in the space of three weeks, counting the match in EL and the three consecutive matches in Serie A: considering his age and his constant physical problems, I considered it risky. It turns out I was right, not great management by Rosetti and, especially, Rocchi.
DeleteOh, I also remember a charity match between referees and Italian politicians: I hope they weren't so crazy as to risk Orsato in that match, it would be really stupid...
DeleteMaybe you are right, there isn't a direct confirmation about that, but indeed Orsato is out from appointment since that charity game (Saturday 26 March).
DeleteIn addition, Aureliano and Fabbri are confirmed as injured after this event as well. I think AIA will not repeat that again! Very stupid during a so crucial period of appointments for referees.

DeleteI think quite opposite, that Sanchez Martinez will have difficult match, cause Bodo is no joke, they are serious team and Roma is not consistent at all this season with their performances.
To add, it's difficult to manage some of their players who make plenty fouls and are protesting plenty decisions such as Mancini, Kumbulla, Karsdorp, Oliveira and Zaniolo.
And to add, there is also genius Mourinho who never had any problems with refs :).
For sure this game will be quite challenging for Sanchez.
I hope nothing serious for Orsato. Indeed, he had a very busy schedule in March.
ReplyDeleteImagine that Liverpool and Villareal survive and reach the semi-final of CL. In the other semi-final might have a Spanish and English team as well, for instance Man City and Real Madrid.
Committee faces serious issues if Orsato, all English refs, all Spanish refs + the anticipated CL final ref are OUT.

DeleteNot difficult to guess that after all what happened in previous games, this time no story between Roma and Bodo. Norwegian team reached the maximum they could do. Very easy so far for Sanchez Martinez.

ReplyDeleteSo far, so good for the Dutch crew in Thessalonika, who have to cope without both video assistance and GLT tonight. Makkelie has applied the UEFA22 guidelines (very generous line in assessing body contacts; cards at a WC14-type minimum) both effectively and consistently. The most important individual call was actually in the first minute - correct play on, no penalty for PAOK, after a non-deliberate handling offence.
ReplyDeleteI report that Aytekin is doing a very good job. A respected authority on and next to the pitch. A potentially hot match, but Aytekin has it under full control and takes good decisions.

ReplyDeleteMakkelie did a very good job. Is a remarkable testament to the Dutchman's skill that he is able to succeed in such games with de facto no disciplinary control as we know it (varied whistle tones, warnings, etc), and still not be PASSIVE on the pitch. Assistants were always proved right by replay when determining offside evaluations. Strong performance by the Dutch trio. I think they crossed the final hurdle to Saint-Denis tonight.
DeleteTo answer your question directly - it is kind of hard to say. The atmosphere was very tense and the players were quite nervous, but on the other hand, there weren't that many challenging / scenes incidents. However, Makkelie should take a lot of credit for that. We saw last night what can happen when no preventative action is taken by the referee.
Totally agree Mikael. It’s no luck any more that all his games become calm without problems. He let the game flow, good personality and his tactical approach is high level. He’s really one of the best referees of the world.

DeleteAccording to what I can understand from your words, green light for the Dutch if committee has in mind to appoint him for CL final. You are right, let me add, when you say that when potentially hot games are mostly fair, it can be also thank to referee's presence, communication with players and soft skills.
I think this could have gone very easily wild, thinking about first leg. Also, important remark, having such approach, but being active and not passive, this is what Siebert can't still reach at moment, in my opinion...
Marseille-Feyenoord could be a very hot game and needs an A++ Elite referee.
