DeleteStrange appointments by UEFA, I'm starting to think about some surprises, if fourth officials are not appointed on next week, well...
ReplyDeleteOne thing we can say is that Del Cerro will not get Conference League final, and I think that Taylor can become a candidate but only in case of Roma beating Leicester City... otherwise there will be other options. The appointment of Oliver with him as fourth official is too much particular.
What I think about the appointment is that this is possibly the last appointment for English referees, hence Taylor as 4th official and he not given the Semi Final as a Wild card in case Leicester is eliminated, I feel it’s a win win situation!! Taylor get to have an appointment incase every English team progresses. Not to take away from Oliver’s Appointment as well, deserved in his own right!!! Oliver has made great strides in UEFA this season and is becoming the A++ UEFA referee. Got a WC qualifying Semi Final and I am sure he would have gotten a UCL semi final if it was possible because in all this season Uefa ref com have found a way to appoint him even when all factors and odds where against him.
DeleteJust to mention: Taylor also had Feyenoord in R16. That would not have him excluded as other appointments show, but could still have been an argument against him.
DeleteNevertheless I agree, that Oliver deserves this match and that Taylor remains a candidate for any final without British teams.
I really can’t follow all the appointments done by Rosetti and his crew. With Collina it was easy to predict and logical.
ReplyDeleteYou think so???😂😂 this is the first season that appointment from Rossetti has been unpredictable!! Previous season it was always Certain to be Brych, Kuipers, Skomina and co. People kept shouting we needed new names and that the Elite category is there for fun, then all the names above retired and Rossetti has decided to change the whole appointment scheme. Abolishing the 3rd category, promoting about new 8 Elite referees which has never been done and then immediately making use of all of them. He his making use of all his referees especially this season that factors have forced him into doing so like Hategan and Orsato’s injuries, not been able to appoint English or Spanish referees in the UCL Semi- Final. I am liking this new method, you would never have thought after the conclusion of last years Euros where Istvan Kovac got only one match will be officiating Man City vs Real Madrid in a UCL Semi Final.

Soares Dias indeed seems to be injured, being replaced during a Portuguese match and as 4th official in CL tonight. Otherwise he should indeed get a match, probably instead of Schärer in my set.
Two Spanish referees in EL might seem unusual, but it looks like the best option to me. The alternative would be using one of them in Marseille and Jovanovic in Glasgow.
Regarding Makkelie, a lot has been written already. The main factors for doing it this way: RMA-MCI needs the best possible option & Turpin is used as 4th this week, but Makkelie isn't (and could easily have been for Gözübüyük) - this suggests to me that Makkelie rather than Turpin works next week.
I don't disagree, that Makkelie would deserve the CL final though.
Vincic is one of many options for the ECL final. If he isn't planned for it (or the EL final), he should get one of the six semifinals.
And now I've seen the discussion in the other thread and have been reminded about Kuipers observing in Madrid...

DeleteI firmly believe that he's Spain's #1 (other than Lahoz) based on physical appearance and not actual ability. Gil Manzano may not have the prototypical look that Ref Comm's unfortunately over emphasize nowadays. But his ability and quality as a referee is beyond what del Cerro Grande will ever have.
Anything on Oliver? I have heard nothing about his performance, all I have seen is another strange referee kit combo :)
ReplyDeleteOliver with a very good performance in a tence atmosphere. Have watched full first half and 2nd part of the 2nd half. Stadium exploded some times.
ReplyDeleteFully accepted by the players and staff. No mobbing or what so ever. Good foul detection. Was just as lucky as Kovacs on tuesday that both teams wanted to play football and went full on the attack. YC's issued were totally fine for me.
Both assistents were doing a good job. AR1 with a very thight but good call on the 2-0. Was very good aware that on the other side of the pitch one player of OM was standing on the same line as the attack of FEY.
Oliver can be very happy after yesterday. Return will be a hot one. Crowd in Marseille is famous for the atmosphere they created. No real favourite in one of the teams. So no easy return, needs a very experienced Elite ref, not in terms of LOTG but in terms of man management.
Agree. Oliver did great job yesterday. He managed the game well and was accepted by both teams. No controversial issue. Firm gesture but still kind a friendly with players at some parts.

The only thing that looked strange was the color of Ref’s socks.
