  1. Disappointing to see Bastien again in UECL. Why not just demote him when they're treating him as a 1st category referee anyway?

  2. Good ebenin Fellas.. i just wondering Will Joey Kooij in Euro U-21/U17?

    1. Euro U17 possible, Euro U21 no way.

    2. Given the development of Kooij, I personally think that he is a closer to a exit from the UEFA list than at a youth tournament. I hope that the KNVB intervenes at the end of the season and replaces him and van der Eijk

      Delete
    3. @Hans Don't agree. Kooij and Van der Eijk are both big talents and developing very well.
In a way everybody is always against Kooij in The Netherlands. The same as Higler had the first few years, but now he is a respected referee. The same will happen to Kooij eventually.

Looking into it from another angle. If you remove Van der Eijk and Kooij from the FIFA list, who would you replace them with?
IMO they're obviously the biggest talents at the moment

      Delete
    4. That is typically Dutch. Every referee makes mistakes. Kooij made a mistake with that harsh 2nd yellow card and is immediately bad. But people who observe him every week see the progression. Besides Kooij and Vd Eijk, Marc Nagtegaal is a very talented referee.

      Delete
    5. Yea Marc nachtegaal so far so good

    6. @Ref_0307 Agree to disagree but In my opinion they were put on the list way too quickly because suddenly a large number of referees stopped internationally.

Their development is imo not going well at all. They have not taken any steps forward compared to two years ago. They are still used a lot in the 2nd division and for the bigger matches they are not even close to an appointment. There are several examples, but just look at the last 4 red cards that Kooij had given and 3 of which were dismissed!

As a replacement I thought of Nagtegaal indeed. And I would keep the other place vacant. Don't make the mistake of promoting too quickly again. In my opinion, first be a good eredivisie referee and then maybe Europe is in sight

@NL Don't make a caricature of it. It is a broader development. Not 1 incident at Feyenoord-Groningen.

    7. @ Hans: I don't see a problem with young promotions. Gozubuyuk and Makkelie were both very young promoted.

What I noticed about Marc Nagtegaal is that he is one of the few referees who can actually connect with players (in a good way!). That is very rare nowadays. I hope he gets a chance.

The criticism towards Joey Kooij is too harsh imo:
      - He is the son-in-law of a former football player. As a result of that, he receives heavier criticism than others. He needs to prove himself even more.
      - In NL, people often find a referee too pedantic and authoritarian. Most people prefer background-minded, invisible, lenient referees like Lindhout, but in international games I'm certain that Kooij's confident (slightly arrogant) body language will help him a lot (refer to Kuipers).

    8. completely agree with anonymous, and to add... the referee department is since Dick van Egmond is the boss not a flexible department.... always and always the same names for "classicos", before it was Kuipers/Makkelie and sometimes Gozubuyuk, and now it is Makkelie/Gozubuyuk, and sometimes Higler, its to boring! Why they never give chances to Manschot, van den Kerkhof, van de Graaf, Kamphuis.....all very experieced national referees, it gives also less problems when lets say Makkelie got unexpected injured, its in my thoughts not something wich is very future oriented.

      Delete
    9. Alex Bos, Martijn Vos and Marc Nagtegaal are also big upcoming talents in the NL. Its boring to see that they dont give them the chances they deserve. Its what other users are writing on this forum. Always the same names in de Dutch premier League..

  3. Do we know the Referees at euro 21. Here in Denmark it has vin announced that Morten Krogh will be a head Referee.

    1. I don't really understand his second coming given he never really showed any development or skills in years and only goes to Greece because he is equally mediocre for both teams and available, but Russian vote maybe(???); a bit overrated due to too chaotic foul recognition and no huge personality skills but solid enough in the end I guess; incredible how this guy manages to fall upwards and upwards, some of the messes he made at U17s were remarkable...; solid enough name, it seems he adapted to a worse style than before (see Turpin et al) but okay, deserves a chance; quite big talent but still rather 'raw', at least the last time(s) I saw him, and not the guy for modern football/reffing *maybe*; a similar speech here, probably even a bigger (rather huge) talent but idk about his recent progress; sooo mediocre IMO, very weird they like him so much, why not eg. Verboomen?!; probably a bit overrated but I wait to give a decisive judgement here; very talented ref from a small nation, good; hmmmm decent enough I guess...; huge talent, I'm sorry for this email thing, hopefully it all blows over now; not my favourite style but good enough, deserves a chance. ALL-IN-ALL on merit there should be minimum three and max six future elites there IMO.

      Thanks for names, Anonymous! :)

    2. Sorry but I didn't understand who comes to Greece and is mediocre for both teams.
      Can you please explain?

      Delete
    3. Sorry Mickael are you talking about Krogh ? Who are you talking about?

      Delete
    4. Sorry if it was unclear what I wrote. My order is the same as anonymous :). Ağayev is the guy who goes to Greece - he doesn’t show many skills and is quite weak IMO, but at the end neither team can complain too much about his decisions disadvantaging them, so HFF are satisfied.

    5. Falling upwards and upwards... is that Delajod or Eskas?

  5. Where is Glova?

    1. Indeed he is the only Category 1 among the referees called for the Winter Course in Rome, without assignment so far.
About Elite, Kulbakov in the same situation.

    2. Dear Chefren.
Do you know if there will be VAR in the euro U21?

      Delete
    3. I don't know, sorry. I'm trying to collect some info about that.

      Delete
    4. Looking at his terrible domestic form, I'm not surprised that he hasn't been assigned yet.

    5. About the missing names attending UEFA course, I think we should also add Kruashvili, not appointed if I checked correctly.

  6. Is Ivan Bebek debut as VAR on UEFA competitions directly on KO stage? Is it a crisis or just normal?

    1. And also is it this appointment indicate Strukan at the moment is in pole position than Jovic?

    2. This is for sure Strukan before Jović.

  7. Minute 32' in Sivasspor - Fiorentina: possible double violent conduct with both players off-the-ball. No intervention by Osmers.

  8. RC for DOGSO after OFR in DIFLPO

    https://streamable.com/ix7dcq

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. IMO correct RC for DOGSO, other defenders might be in line, but too far from the attacker.

      Delete
    2. Not convinced by this OFR, there is still too much doubt about whether or not the other defenders could challenge the Poznan player before he would've got the shot away

      Delete
    3. I strongly prefer RC over YC, but I'm surprise there was an OFR for this (assuming Strukan initially gave YC-SPA and not a missed incident)

      Delete
    4. Ah, I see he initially gave a YC, I only watched a link uploaded on reddit.

Interesting that he ran for OFR backwards in order to not lose the overview of Fop :D

      Delete
    5. Not a clear and obvious mistake: wrong OFR by Bebek.
YC for SPA should have been supportable.

      Delete
    6. IMO, there is no valid argument to support YC for SPA if you freeze the frame at the moment of foul, therefore correct intervention by Bebek. Nice to have a good discussion here!

  9. RC for VC by Dabanovic in Sivasspor-Fiorentina.

His late reaction suggests it was after AR2 output.

  10. Unfortunately, the idiotic trend to look for ultra-high force when assessing off-the-play striking and kicking in order to issue a red card continues. YC Szymczak (LPO) for delaying the restart, YC Andersson (DIF) for kicking an opponent.

    1. Clear VC from Andersson of Djurgården imo. Unfortunatly as you said, not expected in UEFA competitons

      Delete
    2. VC. Not high force, but not negligible either.

  11. 5’ AZ-Lazio Roma - How the crystal clear knee in the back in front of the 4th official can be missed by the entire Slovenian team is beyond me… A dark yellow card as well!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In 30’ another yellow card for Lazio missed after a reckless stamp by Milosevic Savic.

      Delete
    2. And a blatant corner kick missed by assistant referee (38’). Too many mistakes by the refereeing team so far, though the match is under control.

      Delete
    3. Yes the pressure from the Italian side is appareantly too heavy. Now 2 unbelievable goalkkck decisions from the AR

      Delete
    4. 42' Absolutely correct yellow card for a reckless stamp by Lazio #5 Vecino, seems to have been some confusion regarding who actually made the foul though (don't think there was any VAR intervention)

      Delete
    5. Agreed, mandatory yellow card for Lazio’s #5 issued

  12. Someone the highlights of Lawrence Visser's game?

    1. I don't think it was that interesting tbh. No cards, no Penalty's. I watched the UEFA highlights, no incidents on that.

  13. Jug incidents in first half.

    6' Missed YC
    https://streamja.com/e5Rl2
I mnust say fourth official too muxh relaxed here. No cooperation with referee. His body language after the incident is not good.

    31' Missed YC
    https://streamja.com/51LR2
Here only referee could have spotted it.

38' Missed corner kick, goal kick given
    https://streamja.com/OprRn
Evident save, either assistant referee or referee had to see it.

    42' YC for reckless challenge
    https://streamja.com/0Z6Qj
In this case, a very good decision in a complex situation, at first glance it could have looked like foul by AZ player, but it was a step on foot. I think the officials elaborated the decision before taking it.

  14. OFR for Kabakov in London, straight RC for SFP:
    https://streamin.me/v/f9bd6fd8
Correct decision by VAR to call him. I must say, extremely quick action by Cypriot player, difficult to assess live.

    1. Is the West-ham player complaining about the red card given to the opponent? Or am I seeing that wrongly?

  15. Dabanović was in trouble in Sivasspor - Fiorentina, poor perfomance, he didn't control the game and there were many rough fouls and confrontations. What happened in the second half, was clearly predictable for the facts occurred in the first part of the game.
Minute 31' and we have a mutual violent conduct in an off-the-ball incident.
    Video:
    https://streamja.com/BKzR2
An elbow by Fiorentina player, with a kick from opponent as reaction. Not seen by officials, Osmers decided not to intervene.
I think the reason was the lack of closer replays, with ball far from the incidents, but still...
In second half close to end of game referee totally missed control of the game, I must say he doesn't seem to be at the level for handling such clashes.
