Schärer, Ekberg and Dabanović with top games this matchday. The Swede with Konrad Plautz observing him in this potentially explosive TURCRO. Perhaps Ekberg will have to show what he lacked in AUTMKD at EURO20 - anticipation, prevention and focused approach. Standard games for Treimanis, Kruashvili, Lindhout and Gishamer.
ReplyDeleteI would add, quite important game for Lindhout as well, given the observer and the condition of the Dutch referee. Very easy match on paper, but I think one of the final tests before this expected promotion to Category 1. Still, NED without a Cat. 1 by a very long time...
DeleteI really haven't seen anything in Lindhout so far. Extremely lenient and passive approach. It feels like he's pushed only because of nationality, just to promote any Dutch to the first category. Between both, I would prefer Higler but he has tendency to make basic mistakes in key situations... One can discuss whether UEFA RefCom do the right thing with such political moves...
DeleteAlso important and potentially hot match for Treimanis, Georgia and Norway will fight with Scotland for second place in this group.
DeleteBenfica x Inter Lahoz
ReplyDeleteInter x Benfica Oliver
City x Bayern Makkelie
Bayern x City Marciniak
Real Madrid x Chelsea Turpin
Chelsea x Real Madrid Orsato
Milan x Napoli Taylor
Napoli x Milan Manzano
Sorry, but you are wrong. Makkelie can't be in City game first leg, because there is Kuipers. Also, Lahoz is not posibble in Lisbon because there is Carlos Velasco Carballo. Also, not Manzano in the second leg for Napoli with Milan, because is a spanish observer. I think you didn't watch all the post for this games with the observer appointmenst. And you forgott Kovacs and Vincic.
DeleteTell me please, where to find appointments U-21?

Do you know why Ekberg has new assistants?
ReplyDeleteNyberg is part of Ekbergs team (as his former AR Hallberg quit refereeing a year ago), while Culum has dual nationality and can not referee Turkey and is therefore replaced for this assignment.
DeleteThank you so much SomeRef! I didn't know Culum has dual nationality.
DeleteThere was an interesting penalty claim for Norway when the forward had a delayed fall as he tried to stay on his feet. Haven't seen a replay of it
ReplyDeleteRobertson bumping the Spanish player. Silly action but absolutely nowhere near enough to warrant the reaction from the Spanish player
ReplyDeleteCan we say "violent conduct by shoulder"? :)
DeleteAn interesting one for the argument of where the arm ends. Contact was below the face luckily for the Scottish player
DeleteVery challenging game for Schaerer, concerning the behavior of players especially at set pieces. A few minutes ago he just gave up and allowed them to do what they wanted, he tried to give some warnings, but players absolutely not interested...
DeleteA player who, when not challenging for the ball, deliberately strikes an opponent on the head or face with the hand or arm, is guilty of violent conduct unless the force used was negligible.
DeleteIt was the head and force was not negligible.
Quite difficult match so far for Schärer. He's working hard to manage players but sometimes he doesn't win - see the corner kick management in 36', for example.
I dont get it why in that corner set piece he did not book both players.
DeleteThere was long delay,he just gave up is correct term.
Agree with lukas, Robertson should have been dismissed, totally unnecessary strike at an opponent's head. VAR-given caution, too...
DeleteFor UEFA, I think Schärer's performance is actually optimal: always talking to the players, very good management skills, cards only as a final resort, 'enough' match control but the game is still exciting. Sort of officiating which earns you affectionate hugs in nowadays :P. Personally I would rather ask "Is the match really under the Swiss's grasp and what could he have done differently to achieve a better level of match control?".
OFR for Dabanovic in Switzerland - Israel. A penalty has been annulled, the contact was rather caused by attacker who hit defender while trying to kick ball, the latter without responsibilites or clear movements to commit a foul.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. Dabanovic, well positioned, deemed to see Lavi clipping the heel of Itten, because the latter one fell to the ground. Right intervention by Mariani. All in all, a game dominated by the Swiss, and we sterted to count garbage time just after seven minutes of the second half, after the third goal had been scored. However, one should commend ar Simonovic, who was perfectly positioned in line with Widmer and two defenders and see the Swiss player was onside and let the goal stand. Had he not been where he stood at the time, Simonovic might have wrongly raised his flag.
DeleteVery hot game in Glasgow. The longer Scotland lead the more challenging for Scharer it will be
ReplyDeleteScharer unable to continue
ReplyDeleteReplaced by 4th official
DeleteHopefully nothing serious, he is needed for quarterfinals in 2-3 weeks...
DeleteMuscular strain according to the TV commentators. He's continuing as 4th official
DeleteFähndrich's international experience so far: 1 WC qualifier (ALB-SMR), 1 Youth League game, otherwise only youth and EL/ECL qualifiers.
DeleteDespite that 'limited' resume, quite impressed with Lukas Fändrich! Very respectable fitness level, typical 'old school' firm style with a good level of natural authority/firm gestures, ready to make decisions and card when needed (besides missed yellow for reckless tackle in 68', which resulted in DtR booking immediately after), etc.
DeleteUEFA could easily make a solid 1st Cat out of him IMO.
Rather Fähndrich, apologies. :)
DeleteAs a Swiss, I’m very very glad for Fähndrich being in the spotlight. In terms of appointments he is (together with San) the second most trusted referee in Switzerland after Schärer. I really like watching him in Swiss Super League. Let‘s see what he possibly can achieve in UEFA!
DeleteMuch quieter 2nd half so far in Glasgow
ReplyDeleteJust as I say that, Aspas is cautioned
DeleteVery good performance from Lindhout, not a very challenging game, definitely not a real test but what can you request more? He correctly assesed almost all the fouls and always had full control, being accepted by players. All disciplinary sanctions correct. I especially liked his body language. Frankly, he looks like a solid Cat. 1 referee (even better than at least 3 Elite, I won't name them). His promotion is iminent.
ReplyDeleteNow that might sound a little bit confusing: I felt the passive aproach that ESR was writing above; but not leniancy. He preferes to be discret most of the time, or at least this is the sensation - which is a good thing many times; but he is NOT afraid to use his cards when needed - 6 yellow cards tonight. If he is assigned to the right games, you will be more than happy with his performances. However, this style will amost never work when it is involved a Portuguese, Turkish or Serbian team for example. But this doesn't change my opinion that he deserves a place in First Category.
The only interesting incident:
43' - Possible penalty for BLR. The ball deflects from the defender's hip, so play on is ok
Well done for the Dutch then! It's not that I'm against him, just haven't seen a really good game of him. Maybe I should watch this one :) Thanks for the report!
DeleteHe will referee semi cupfinal Feyenoord-Ajax wensday 5 april. Biggest game in his career. Worth watching
DeleteCompletely agree with your assessment Matei14. Fitness excellent. Couple of impressive sprints. Positioning excellent - always up with play. Discipline very good, agree the cards given, maybe a touch lenient a couple of times but it worked. Man management very good to back it up. Very good use of advantage. Good awareness of play developing. The goal ruled out for offside was closer than it looked in real time. One corner given that should have been a goal kick 41st min from memory. He can be very happy with that performance & he and his team enhanced a very good game to watch with their performance.
DeleteMy Polish friend @ Euro Soccer Ref is it to much to ask for a video from the game @ Metropolitano in Madrid where Munuera Montero showed two red cards. Friendly game Marocco-Peru.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
https://youtu.be/KhYisxkBfU8
DeleteThank you M! I see the referee is Martinez Munuera and not Montero as they had in their stats. Both red cards are correct, well done from the referee.
ReplyDeleteHere the main incident from Scotland - Spain. Should the Scottish player have been sent off for violent conduct? The answer is clearly yes if we look at the book, but...
ReplyDeletehttps://streamff.co/v/iiWJO3TKh8
And the subsequent corner kicks management, at a certain point he definitely gave up with warnings...
Deletehttps://streamff.co/v/s9zyHtS0qa
For me it should be a RC. Probably also with VAR - intervention. Off the ball, he wants to leave a mark.
DeleteNaughty from Robertson but not enough force to warrant rc and too much play-acting from Spanish player. YC for both is the right decision in my view.

ReplyDeleteStéphanie Frappart will referee next week's Women's Finalissima between England and Brazil at Wembley Stadium in London.
no surprise, right?
DeleteWell, maybe a surprise that a WC referee gets WC teams in the year of the WC - this is mostly avoided in men's football.
DeleteAnd for men's Finalissima it was not one of the very top referees, but more a prospect for 2026 (Maza, CHI).
So maybe Projkovska could have been expected.

DeleteOT: FIFA officially removed Indonesia as U20WC host due to their refusal to let Israel compete.
ReplyDeleteIt is said that Argentina has already submitted a bid to host it, without changing the dates (they'd like to do it as a) Argentina is a candidate to host 2030 WC so they will want to show off their stadiums to FIFA and b) Argentina didn't qualify to the tournament and now would do it as hosts)
thats hard but the only acceptable logic by fifa! good decision! a "host" country that does not acknowledge a guest, is not a real "host", right? only qatar and argentina are possible - germany would be a country who could organize it perfectly within weeks, however due to their political issues during world cup, i think they are no choice
DeleteUSA probably would be able as well. Or maybe Peru can switch with U17 and there will be more time to find someone for U17 in autumn.
DeleteYes due to political issues with Israel.
ReplyDeleteArgentina the latest show interest.
Cyprus is once again sending referees to the Danish Superliga. Highly controversial due to the fact that:
ReplyDelete*Cyprus dealt with corruption for the last decade or two
*Cyprus league is clearly inferior to the Danish
Antoniou Menelaos had a very good game in Horsens-Viborg earlier in March, but now Cyprus is sending totally unproved Athanasiou with just 13 Cyprus Premier Matches to referee relegation encounter between Lyngby and Silkeborg.
Athanasiou has NEVER whistled a Cyprus Premier Division Game between two Top6 teams and is now going as a completely new FIFA-referee with two U17 matches under his belt.
I cannot recall any other exchanges in the world, where inferior referees are refereeing games above their normal level.
'Cypriot league is inferior to the Danish'
DeleteWell, only four places of difference in UEFA ranking - DEN 17th, CYP 21st. Both federations have five spots in European club competitions.
