  1. You can see that UEFA has already taken some decisions against the Danish AR2 who made mistakes in CL MD1. She has been replaced by a Welsh assistant referee.
While AR1, who was in the possibility to cooperate wth Frida Klarlund about the penalty call wrongly assessed outside, has been kept. I can agree that offside mistake was more evident (there were two mistakes also another during the game, very evident, but not a crucial situation).

    1. Actually it's other way around. :-) They replaced the AR who had wrong in-out penalty assessment and kept the AR in the team who was involved in the last minute offside situation.

    2. You are right, the benches were on the other side than camera in Real - Chelsea, that's why I thought it was the contrary.

      Delete
    3. I feel the Offside was supported in some ways because there is something there that one could support!!! Sam Kerr was offside and made contact with a defender… ideally not really punishable but one can shove that under the guise of interpretation and if that’s what was conveyed as the reason why the Chelsea’s goal was disallowed, I am sure UEFA would support her!! I wasn’t expecting the Danish team to be appointed so soon because that penalty gives was horrendous to say the least, all I can say is that The AR on that side was the one that reported the penalty and that’s why the referee is spared and the AR removed

  2. It goes to show how corrupt the appointments are across men and women. Ref from big country makes big mistakes it’s “never mind, learn and dont do it again, here is another big appointment to learn” if ref from a small country it is “this is completely unacceptable, no more uefa games for you”

    1. The same on this forum. Some referees always protected, some referees always killed. Marciniak doesn't need to show cards because he is so good. Others are too modern, very bad, leniant.

    2. Definately. Orsato/itilian refs, Marciniak and Spanish refs cant do wrong, whereas there is not enough opposition against the unfair treatment of Taylor and Makkelie, who imo should get PSG games asap

    3. Oh come on!
I've been following this blog for years now. I am not a regular contributor but I can say that I am a regular follower since the old "The 3rd Team" days.
People have opinions and their own cognitive understanding of events. You can't expect someone to be always objective on the referee decisions. But I can't agree that there is a systematic negativity against certain referees by the admin team.
There were always so called 'fan boys' of referees from time to time here in this and former blog, who sometimes exaggerated the positive performances of the favorites and vise versa of the others. But the most of the time major contributors tried to focus on the performance not the name. There was always unfair treatment against some referees in the international stage. And people on this blog explicitly wrote about it the past. There were several opinion pieces written about it, for example Cakir's case, or PSG-Makkelie case. This an amateur blog and this is what people can do about this, not staging a march in Nyon.
Nobody is faultless, not even Marciniak. Several years ago he hit the bottom. You can imagine what how negative people wrote about him here in this blog. And today he is simply the best. Makkelie was the rising star couple of years ago. He was also doing mistakes in his matches which were overlooked here in the comments. Now his performance declined due to the obvious reasons. Turpin was bashed to the ground after his performances couple years ago.
Every big name had his fair share of negative comments here, Kuipers, Cakir, Rosetti, Webb...
On the other hand, if the RefComm has their favorites, it is their problem not of this blog.

    4. Skystar, thank you so much for this post. I hope that all anonymous will read and understand, to sum up what you said in a few word, in my opinion the most important concept, take it less seriously! This is a free blog that we are trying to keep always active for pure passion of refereeing. We are not UEFA, we are not an official body of the European football government. What we write here are just opinions. The same referee has received (and you make many examples) some positive comments in certain periods and the contrary in others. But still, opinions of readers. The opinion of the admins have the same value of the opinions of the readers, another important thing I want to repeat again. In my opinion the problem of some people is that they read only what they want to read, that's typical, on the other hand they don't read when there are contrary opinions.
But, as you can see, I gave up in answering anonymous comments, they do everything by themselves, really nothing to add...

  3. Can I ask,
    1. Who is Voĺha Blockaja from Belarus? Bibiana Steinhaus as observer and will refereeing in Italy (Karasev last performance also in Italy).
    2. Do you think Kulbakov will refereeing in UCL/UEL and not UECL again in MD 5/6?

    1. That's for sure an interesting appointment to highlight, indeed.
As Category 1, she officiated two Women's CL group stage game on last season one year ago, so it seems as there was already a certain focus on her. Now, a game like Italy - Switzerland and an observer like Steinhaus. The game not important for qualification in the grouo, but still absolutely under the spotlights for a Belarusn official. We know how much rare is to see them nowadays, so this should say us something about the observation. Fortunately this game will be aired in Italy, so I will be able to say at least a few words about performance, if not fully detailed report.

    1. French refereeing at its finest ;)

    2. But excellent game from him. In France, we traditionnaly keep cards for ultra clear offences, that’s what we are taught when we begin refereeing. Other offences should be managed with the referee personalilty. I must say, although my opinion is biased since I’m a French referee (amateur level), that I agree with this approach and Bastien’s game tonight was a top-class performance to me. Cards stayed rightfully in the pocket.

  6. Just wondering if Felix Brych continued his international career, would he get Euro 2024 final on his home soil as farewell match?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Felix Brych was never lucky at big tournaments regarding the officiating in KO stages. It s indeed possible in case of continuation of FIFA career and good performance, he could have got definitely more at EURO 2024 at home, but who knows, all is only on paper...

      Delete
    2. Speaking of Brych, he refereed his 344th Bundesliga game tonight (Frankfurt-Stuttgart), equalizing Wolfgang Stark's record.
Unfortunately, he went off injured at half-time and was replaced by 4th official Patrick Schwengers, who debuts in the first division.

      Delete
    3. "Felix Brych was never lucky at big tournaments regarding the officiating in KO stages". Excuse me, but you just can't ignore Euro 2020 like this. He had no less than 5 games and appeared in every single KO stage except the final: Round of 16, QF and SF. Which is suomehow unusual and definitely not recommend in terms of management. But he received this games thanks to his great reputations within the Com in the spite of other referees (e.g. Cakir). You can't call this a dissappointing tournament and him being unlucky at all.

      Delete
    4. Yes, he wasn't unlucky in this regard at EURO 2020, but still if we talk about a referee with his palmares and about the chance to get a big final, he never reached that. I also agree that some KO assignments at EURO 2020 were rather choices by committee based on his reputation and not performance (for me Belgium - Portugal definitely too poor), and for this reason in a detailed analysis we can say that at the end of his international career he was missing in something on big occasions.

      Delete
    5. Brych's big issues were at the World Cup, where he could not find hinself and ended his stay at the group stage.
