The final announcement has been made by UEFA. VAR will be used starting from CL  round of 16 on KO stage.

    1. She is from home-country but my early prediction is that Stéphanie Frappart could be a strong candidate for the final.

    2. If France doesn't make it to the final, it may happen (as Steinhaus in 2011), but I have my doubts since it would be the 3rd time in a row that UEFA gets the final (Steinhaus in 2011, Monzul in 2015). And in UEFA, we should not forget Esther Staubli...

Other candidates from other confederations are certainly Chenard and Venegas from CONCACAF, Ri should be the strongest candidate from AFC. And OFC still have Keighley, who can be in the middle for the final.

    3. It's basically all referees from U20 and U17 tournaments this year. Only Sara Persson is missing
(Considering the actual participants in U17WC with Braz participating instead of Miranda, Mularczyk and Vulivuli)

  3. Now it makes more sense to appoint Elite ref's with VAR's to friendlies such as Cakir in ITA-USA.

  4. On Wednesday (5 December) a meeting of UEFA Referees Committee is planned. Categories will be updated and very likely we will know the new FIFA referees for 2019 for all European countries.

  5. So the next interesting questions are, how many (A)VARs will be on one match and who will be chosen for this role.
I think, there are approx. 40 referees, who have either participated at one of the VAR seminars this season or at the World Cup. Half of them come from countries, which have VAR in their league.
So an idea would be to select the VAR from those approx. 20 with domestic VAR experience and make the others available for the AVAR role to gain experience.
The names would be: Buquet, Turpin (FRA), Dankert, Stieler, Zwayer (GER), del Cerro Grande, Martinez Munuera, Sanchez Martinez (ESP), Gil, Marciniak, Raczkowksi (POL), Gözübüyük, Makkelie (NED), Irrati, Massa, Orsato, Valeri (ITA), Tiago Martins, Soares Dias (POR) and maybe Göcek (TUR).

    2. Has that been written somewhere already?
It makes sense, but is it confirmed?

    3. I wonder which will be the appointment structure from now on.

Of course, referees will use their regular international ARs, but as 4th official...maybe a less experienced FIFA referee, who used to act as AAR1 until now? (e.g. De Burgos Bengoetxea as 4th official of Mateu Lahoz, Van Boekel as 4th official of Kuipers, Guida as 4th official of Rocchi, Papapétrou as 4th official of Sidiropoulos...)

As VAR and AVAR, I think they will promote "international" appointments, so, maybe only "field" referee crew will be from the same nation, specially if it appears to be Královec, Sidiropoulos, Skomina...

  7. Hopefully VAR will be used better than in Rome yesterday

  8. Unfortunately, VAR introduction comes too late to bail out Viktor Kassai and save him from worldwide humiliation. But that sure was a "great tackle" by that blade of grass ;)
