  5. Excellent competition, let's hope the enthusiasm shown by those who took part is matched by the officials for the final 2 games. Regardless of the results, may their games go well & we won't be blaming FIFA for their mistakes.

  6. Congratulations to the winners!
I also want to thank everyone on this blog, although sometimes the opinions are a little different and there are some discussions, we all share the same passion: refereeing.

I started reading this blog on Siebert's work day at ATM-MCI and I fell in love, I found a place where I can see different points of view, I also learn a lot by reading all your comments and I thank you.

Now, let's hope that the next year is as good as this one, that we continue to enjoy seeing good performances and commenting on them, we have 4 great tournaments on the horizon (where we are going to have a lot to comment on :)
    -Club World Cup
    -Women's World Cup
    -Under-20 World Cup
    -Under-17 World Cup

We hope that they will all be exceptional and magnificent tournaments...I am sure that they will be.

I want to reiterate my thanks to everyone and have a happy holiday!

  14. Right, I didn't remember Gomes' retirement. Then I replace him by Selmi - and we don't need a support referee...

I don' think, a VAR needs to be suspended for one mistake. Not using him again at the WC is bad enough. And I wanted an Arab VAR for the Arab referee, I chose.
But of course, they could also try someone different.

  15. Czech Republic:

New male FIFA referees are Marek Radina (1992) & Dominik Starý (1993), they join Jan Machálek, Jan Petřík, Tomáš Klíma & Ondřej Berka.

Interestingly, Machálek, Petřík & Klíma only joined the list last year, huge renovation after turbulent era. A shame that Ondřej Pechanec decided to quit.

  17. I think Jovanovic, Scharer, Maza, Ortega will be in Indonesia

I hope for Peljto too, but it is more realistic for him to be in Peru

Valenzuela and Barton never refereed the u-20 world cup before right? I hope for them to be here too, but more realistic to see them in club world cup

I don't quite expect Grinfeld will be here, because Israeli team qualified

And I really hope to see OFC trio from outside New Zealand. Yareboinen from the neighboring country would be nice, eventhough Kawana-Waugh may have a chance.

  18. I made my list with referees who were NOT in Qatar, because it is very stupid to designate a referee who was in a Major World Cup, sending him to a "children's" World Cup, that is, it does not make sense.
Such is the case of Barton, Valenzuela and Ortega

I feel like Ortega has a better chance because he didn't direct, but who knows...

    ReplyDelete
  19. I believe that if 2021 tournament happened, surely Valenzuela, Barton, and Ortega will be there

U-20 tournament a year after the world cup is the tournament for prospective referees for the next world cup, while u-20 tournament a year before world cup is for seasoned referees to train for the real world cup. Maybe 2023 will be different?

For AFC maybe we need to see the referee appointed for AFF semifinal and final. No strong candidate at the moment, maybe Hoish, Tantashev

    ReplyDelete
  20. Exact.
I really want to see Tantashev at some point, I feel that he has a lot to offer.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I forgot to add, the South Korean referee Ko Hyung-jin may also be in the next process.
Looking at his designations within the AFC, I think they have him highly regarded and he is barely 40 years old.
