Absolutely poor by all officials in charge of controlling players in the tunnel, assistant referees and fourth official.
      At WC level, simply unacceptable...

    3. Took them only 42 minutes to notice.

    4. Somebody read the blog and informed AR1. :D

    5. Press officer of Polish team (on the bench) said "I snitched to 4th official" in reply to one of Polish referees spotting that on twitter: (in Polish): https://twitter.com/zawodsedzia/status/1599423868560515073

  2. 32' Wrong free kick and yellow card, admittedly I was fooled real-time too, but the Frenchman's studs were down, it was the Pole committing the foul.

    1. It was not easy to read that challenge, I think all referees would have been deceived, based on how players started the challenge.

  3. 37' should be a caution IMO, forceful contact with the knee to the goalkeeper (and fortunately only the goalkeeper's arms, which blocked the knee from hitting his head).

  4. Well, the necklace was seen. Way too late. Good they intervened, but come on.

On the other hand: you play at WC. You know the rules. Why wear it?

  5. I really don't care about Koundé's chain tbh but - do it at HT when the cameras aren't watching Señor Urrego! Too amateurish and unprepared impression given to the world of the Venezuelan crew in that moment... (referee at my local association would be instantly rejected by an assessor for that!!! :D).

Valenzuela succeeds by his very focused and even slightly chaotic exterior (-> succeeding as a distant authority) in a dynamic game, but the carte blanche for kicking ball away + wrong caution at 32' (what do you think about Mbappé play on at 27'?) not good. Edgy Soto at 38' too?... let's see about 2H!

    1. I think impossible to delay the action about the chain, due to safety reasons for other players. Once seen by an official, should be removed immediately.

It's a good thing the World Cup has assessors with better understanding of what is important and what is not.

    1. I don't think it is a foul - what is the counterargument?

  7. 47', wrong foul and yellow card again in the attacking third. That one looked like a much easier call in real time than the mistake in the 32'. The defender clearly wins the ball.

Yellow card a big problem for the Polish defender dealing with the pace of France on the wing.

  8. Jesús Valenzuela VS Jesús Manzano will be a good speed race (:

  9. Had to be a dropped ball. Was no foul. From both sides.

  10. If the ref stopped it for a head injury then should have been a drop ball. It was restarted with a FK so he must've thought it was a foul. Some really baffling decisions in this match

    1. The attacker was pushing or leaning on his opponent before the goalkeeper was hit by Giroud. So, foul was a correct decision IMO.

    2. Yeah, the push was quite obvious. Correctly awarded FK.

  11. Missed push against Mbappe at 69'.

  13. For me, Valenzuela would actually deserve a QF. I like his performance.

  14. OFR for Valenzuela, clear penalty for handball, correct call by Soto.

    1. A pity that this spoiled the performance in the very last minute...

    2. I do not think that the OFR has any impact on further appointments for Valenzuela. These handballs are difficult to detect on the pitch because the referee almost never has the proper angle to see the touch.

    3. My thoughts exactly, Ref_1707.

  15. OFR now, will be PK.
Correct, expected ball and arm is wide outstretched.

  16. Must be retaken. GK off the line and players to early in PA.

  17. Excellent AR1 detecting infringment by keeper without VAR, but it was really evident at moment of the shot. Urrego: perfect positioning.

    1. Only at the second offense if the penalty had to be retaken again.
First offense is a verbal warning.

    2. No, not anymore. Only the second GK infringement is punished with a YC :)

  19. I'd have liked that OFR to include a view at live-speed as well as the slo-mo, but I'm sure the same outcome would have been reached

    1. For handball on shots/passes, location of arm and point of contact are key. Rest not really that important. Full speed not critical.

    2. Lot of comments above on incorrect fouls & yellow cards (Koundé chain not ref fault though)

      Delete
    3. Nothing supporting the statement "very bad performance". Always in control, essientially no dissent, overall good and consistent foul detection. One questionable YC.

    4. Two wrong fouls that led to SPA yellows (32', 47'), have to delay the whistle at 57', and obviously the missed handball in added time.

    5. I agree, that it was one of the weaker performances of the tournament due to his decision quality (examples above).

  21. I don't think it was a bad performance, with questionable things?
Yes, but it did not influence the result
Good for Soto in the OFR

I will wait for the Venezuelan, maybe, as the fourth official in the next round

  22. Totally agree @diego612!
Overall, on most decisions, he was right. By the way the high level of criticism we see here is as boring, cheesy and predictable as the English Band...it's present in every game
