  1. Looks like only 5 referees have been called, but maybe the list can be still open, one year ago there were 6 referees. In any case, these are the names at moment.

    1. Good idea, indeed very likely as we had a CONMEBOL guest woman for U17.

  2. Xhaja in both competitions U19 - U21 in the same dates? Maybe some wrong information about the names.
I think the same like ESR maybe a guests from CONMEBOL wll be the 6 name

    1. About this aspect, easy to guess that the Albanian will be used as fourth official only for group stage games, then the closest matches to U19 start are the quarterfinals, in which committee can appoint main referees in that role.

  3. In Belgium it was the last game of the season and 3 teams were still fighting for the title.
The standings for the last day of play began
    1. Antwerp - 46 points
    2. Union - 46 points
    3. Genk - 45 points
    4. Club Brugge - 33 points

The matches were Genk - Antwerp & Union - Club Brugge.

Genk - Antwerp was led by Nathan Verboomen with assistant referees Mathias Hillaert & Ruben Wyns, 4th official Jasper Vergoote and VAR Lawrence Visser with A-VAR Thibaud Nijsen.
Bram Van Driessche whistled Union - Club Brugge with Yves De Neve and Rien Vanyzere as assistant referees. Nicolas Laforge was the 4th official. Jonathan Lardot was VAR with Michael Geerolf as A-VAR.

The first half was boring. There was nothing to do, only 1x was scored in Genk - Antwerp (1-0), Union - Club Brugge was 0-0.
Second half was fun. Union scored 1-0 in minute 46.
In minute 58 Antwerp scored the 1-1 and 17 minutes later Genk scored again the 2-1. 1 minute before extra time started, Club Brugge scored 1-1 in Union

The score before extra time started was Genk - Antwerp (2-1) and Union - Club Brugge (1-1)
In the extra time, Club Brugge scored 2x, the final score there was 1-3. In Genk, Antwerp scored 1x and there the final score was 2-2.

Each team (except Club Brugge) was once in 1st place during this match day.

This was the final ranking in the ranking:
    1. Antwerp - 47 points
    2. Genk - 46 points
    3. Union - 46 points
    4. Club Brugge - 36 points

As soon as possible I will post the most important highlights of refereeing decisions on this blog.

    1. I would say that for a matches with this high stakes, players behaved very well.

Considering that the title and european places were on the line,I have to say that 3 bookings in each match is suprising to see.

So let's praise the players also,as well as we will praise Van Driessche and Verboomen.

  4. Does anyone know the referees for the Maurice Revello that starts tomorrow?

  5. Very challenging match in Rome for Maresca.
11 YC's and 1 RC,awarded penalty, plenty confrontations would suggest that.
On one hand you haveteqm that is fighting for EL.
On the other hand, you had a team that was fighting to survive.
Also,I should say that it seems that Maresca is now if not the, then of the best refs in Italy.
His recovery is amazing, from ref who has easy trigger and was easily influenced by players and crowd you now have ref that has common sense, can feel the game and again is being trusted by Italian Federation.

    1. Who you think will be the ref for the relegation playout? It's interesting because if I'm not mistaken will be the first time since a long time ago and will be played in neutral venues.

      Delete
    2. Yep,I didn't even know about that possibility.

I dont know,Maresca and Valeri are ruled out with handling these 2 teams today.

2 matches this year were handled by Maresca and Doveri,so I wont be surprised if we see Doveri, cause he hasn't had a match in all Serie B playoffs.
Orsato,Massa,Di Bello were all busy,Mariani had Spezia's relegation battle match vs Lecce 2 weeks ago ,so if we're looking by the stats, numbers and trust that Italian Comitee has in Doveri, then I do think that he will handle that match.

Maybe I'm wrong, let's see cause when commentators announced this match I was surprised.

    3. I guess that Doveri is the absolutely candidate N. 1

    3. Nice emotional behavior by Mateu; it means that refereeing is really a passion for us. Congratulation Antonio !!!!! You had an outstanding carrier

    4. It is a big loss for refereeing world, but the most worrying thing is what you said, there will not be again a referee like him. He was the "last one" in our modern era. He paid for being him, he paid a lot, until the end. That's because nowadays a referee must lose his nature to become one like the others.
Thank you Antonio Mateu Lahoz for everything you did.

    5. This is how a really bigone leaves. One who always stayed true to the game and himself. Thank you, Antonio. It would be great to see especially you working with young talents, encouraging them to develope their own style and in doubt always choosing the game, not conformity.

    6. I guess that Mateu Lahoz and Del Cerro Grande will be the only elite referees to leave the stage now. Orsato seems to go on, Hategan fortunately should be back. Is Collum retiring or does it continue ? Of course Karasev is still out. For 1st class i guess Buquet is leaving, isn't it ? Other names ?

    7. Thank you, Mateu. An inspiration for all of us, a fantastic referee!!

    8. @Chefren you nailed it with this;

"He was the "last one" in our modern era. He paid for being him, he paid a lot, until the end. That's because nowadays a referee must lose his nature to become one like the others."

I think there are no better words to describe him, these words are pefectly summing him up.
His achievements speak for what kinda ref he was, on of the greats.
CL Final,Copa Del Rey Final, plenty El Clasicos,Madrileno,Barcelona,Sevilla derbies,Supercopa de Espana,WC matches, crucial CL and EL matches and many others.
      These past week Jose Mourinho has been one of the more talked football figures and it is interesting to see what he said abou Mateu in the past;
      Source:wiki
In 2012, he refereed in the Supercopa de España.[5] It was around this time that he first became known for a particular style, as it was commented on by then-Real Madrid manager José Mourinho; this response was praise, with Mourinho finding it a pleasant difference that Mateu Lahoz preferred talking to players over immediately disciplining them, and that what he did kept the game moving.

So once again, thank you Mateu for entertaining us over the years and falling in love with refereeing every time I was watching you perform.

  8. Very controversial NO VAR intervention yesterday in Milan - Verona, referee Valeri, VAR Mariani.
    https://streamable.com/ezzupf
Should be a clear handball, even more for what we saw during the full season.
This could have been crucial for relegation (but it wasn't as Milan won the game later on).
About Valeri, the information has made public, both him and Irrati will retire as referees, this was a choice they made, otherwise they would have continued. Especially for Valeri, the form of recent years was impossible to accept, always injured, always late in following play. He has had at least an OFR in almost all games he officiated, and in last season he is surely at first place regarding technology's intervention.
I think that both will focus as professional Video Assistant Referee, joining this panel. That's very good.

  9. UEFA Nations League Final Four semi-finals observers

    NEDCRO: Gianluca Rocchi ITA
    ESPITA: Björn Kuipers NED

    Replies
    1. ESPITA: Vincic
      NEDCRO: Turpin
      3rd Place: Kuzliak
      Final: Dias

      My predictions

      Delete
    2. I agree on some names you mentioned, indeed Soares Dias very likely for the final after his CL big assignment, and the recent management of Kruzliak can suggest us that it will be possible to see him at least in third place final. Small chances even for NED - CRO, but quite unlikely and I think he would have had a different observer, not Rocchi.
The name for Spain - Italy can be Schaerer, if available, he should definitely return to officiate in UEFA, after having missed last calls due to injury. Any info from Switzerland?
Kuipers would suit as observer for Schaerer in Italy's clash.
I don't think names like Turpin and Vincic will be used once again, rather I would even say that there are chances for maybe some referees from U20, if they are already planning their return (final of U20 on 11 June). Some of them clearly back before.. we will see. In case, I would bet everything on Letexier (instead of Turpin).
No chances for Jovanovic who already had this stage, while I think another option is Kovacs, but rather in doubt. I would focus on other names.

      Delete
    3. My idea for ESPITA with Kuipers as observer would be Zwayer. Germany will need a referee for EURO 2024 and - at least for me - it is not that clear whether UEFA currently trusts Siebert or Zwayer more. They could think about appointing Zwayer instead of (or in addition to) Siebert next year.

  10. Maurice Revello tournament appointments for today's matches (asked by Diego)

France U18 vs Saudi Arabia U23

    Referee: Tess Olofsson (SWE)
    AR1: Chrysoula Kourompylia (GRE)
    AR2: Lucie Ratajová (CZE)
FO: Marta Huerta de Aza (ESP)

Venezuela U23 vs Costa Rica U23

    Referee: Daniel Portelli (MLT)
    AR1: Duncan Spencer (MLT)
    AR2: Kurt Saliba (MLT)
    FO: Karim Abed (FRA)

I remember that last year this tournament partnered with FIFA and became a WWC preparation tournament with all female (and non-UEFA) referees selected.

Now we have on one hand a UEFA Elite female refereeing crew - btw, Huerta de Aza handled a Spanish 3rd tier promotion playoff game on Saturday evening (!), and on the other hand a non-FIFA referee from Malta.

  11. On decision of UEFA president Ceferin, Taylor and his family have been invited to CL final, as signal that all referees will be always protected. Also, according to a journalist close to Nyon sources, the performance has been assessed as quite good in a very challenging game, unless the penalty that he had to revoke after OFR.
Not the same positive assessment for Oliver... (still I don't know how much the information can be 100% true).

    ReplyDelete

    1. I can easily imagine UEFA being angry with Oliver as during the last seminar Björn Kuipers once again reminded to strictly punish any bad behaviour of coaches and benches. And during this final it was exactly the contrary...

Very much doubt this is true. If it is then Rossetti has to go

      Delete
    3. I feel bad for Oliver, in many ways he couldn't win. If he applied the law strictly, most the Roma bench along with much of the Sevilla bench could have been dismissed very early on. Then he'd be blamed for not keeping control, and for being stricter than the rest of the season. Alternatively, he could act with large gestures and strictly, without any cards being shown. I can't see how this would have led to any more control. Or he could do what he did, trying to remain calm and keep peace between everyone, resorting to suggesting cards only when necessary. Even with this I think 5/6 cards were shown. I think any of these approaches would have led to him being criticized by some stakeholders. I'd much rather see Uefa condemn and punish the action of the staff/teams who couldn't control themselves

    4. According to ESPN and Dale Johnson, UEFA is not unhappy with the performance of referee Anthony Taylor in the UEL Final after reports in Italy claimed his performance was being questioned.

  12. I don't say good bye to Mateu Lahoz yet because I am sure that he will get a final game in June in Euro 2024 qualifiers. A last dance. My prediction is in England-North Macedonia. This way Rosetti solve two problems once. Giving England a top referee after the dissapointing performance by Jovanovic in Italy-England; and offering Mateu Lahoz a great farewell on a legendary stadium - Old Trafford, "The Theatre of Dreams". It would be a beautiful end of a great story.

    4. I only remember MCI-LIV, I think still supportable performance, I can understand if MCI didn't like Lahoz performance, but their tendencies it seems like influenced by Pep vs Lahoz story in La Liga in the past.

  14. U20 World Cup semi-final appointments:

    Uruguay - Israel

Referee: José María Sánchez Martínez (ESP)
    AR1: Raúl Cabañero Martínez (ESP)
AR2: Íñigo Prieto López de Ceráin (ESP)
    FO: Ramon Abatti (BRA)
    VAR: Juan Lara (CHI)
    AVAR: Guillermo Cuadra Fernández (ESP)

    Korea Republic - Italy

Referee: Yael Cristian Falcón Pérez (ARG)
    AR1: Maximiliano Del Yesso (ARG)
    AR2: Facundo Rodríguez (ARG)
    FO: Mohamed Marouf (EGY)
    VAR: Tatiana Guzmán (NCA)
    AVAR: Adonai Escobedo (MEX)

FIFA breaks confederal neutrality for the first time in the tournament, Sánchez Martínez gets QF and later a SF.

Nyberg should be #1 candidate for the final, regardless of who qualifies.

  15. OT:

Article from calciospezia.com about possible refs for Italian remaining playoff matches:

    Google translate says:

A very "hot" and current theme is the one that will see the Designator Rocchi assign the direction of the match for the safety play-off between Spezia and Verona.

Everyone hopes that Daniele Orsato, the best Italian referee, will direct the match, capable of not being influenced by anything or anyone in his direction of the match.

Not as happened too many times this year just think of Chiffi with three sensational mistakes in the recent Verona-Empoli.

And it seems that Rocchi has decided to choose Orsato for Spezia-Verona and Mariani for the first leg of the Serie B Play-Off final between Cagliari and Bari, while for Sunday's return the choice should fall on one of Doveri and Guida .

However, the official designations are awaited for confirmation.

  17. During AIA press conference held yesterday, the chief of committee, Rocchi, didn't list the name of the referees dismissed end of this year. It will be announced the 1st of July. Anyway all Italian newspaper say today that Irrati and Valeri will retire (as anticipate by Chefren) joint with Serra, Maraviglia, Paterna, Mele, Maggioni and Gariglio. Orsato and Doveri will continue until June and 2024
