Congratulations and well deserved!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to everyone who has been promoted.
ReplyDeleteIrrati and van Boekel are out !?
ReplyDeleteIrrati and van Boekel had already retired as referees from FIFA list, they are only FIFA VAR.
DeleteYes, sorry. I was just checking the second part of 22-23 season and remebered
DeleteWell, I think that no doubt about Nyberg and Peljto promotion, everybody expected it. If we would like to be precise I guess that Nyberg got much more sonorous and important matches than Peljto which can better justify his promotion respect to the Bosniac, but probably, despite the appointments, if we look the score collected during their matches both granted high scores.
ReplyDeleteAs I said three days ago I was expecting the promotion of Hernandez too, but I'm still convinced that it is a merely political reason to allow Spain to keep three referees after Mateu and DCG retirement. So to me no big surprise on promotion.
What is unexpected to me are the missing names..... especially Pinheiro and Mariani. I'm really surprise that they have been excluded and I really cannot understand the reason, so thanks if somebody of you have an explanation. I would promote Visser and Ekberg but as come of you said, my bad, I'm wrong.
And finally on elite I will never understand the need to have about 30 elites and never trust on Sidiropolus, Collum and Kulbakov. It would be better to relegate them in 1st.
Regarding promotion to first class I'm happy to see Xhaya, Lindhout, Delajod and Saggi; For what I saw they really deserve it.
Ekberg and Pinheiro hard done by the committee. Surely they deserved to be promoted more than Hernández Hernández whose performances were really mediocre in UEFA last seasons.
ReplyDeleteBut you know, with two Spanish Elite retiring, having the slot for an access was expected, this is how it works. The referee from Canary didn't have to stress too much to get this promotion, nothing against him, of course, but the condition of two countrymen retiring made almost everything... is that fair in regard to other referees from different countries?
DeleteOf course, I expected this promotion as for Spain to have 'only' two elite referees would be bad.
DeleteAnd of course, it's not fair but it's how it works as you said.
Ok, but it doesn't happened for Italy or England; these countries has "only" 2 referees as Elite and Mariani or Guida or Kavanagh didn't get an easier pat to be promoted.
DeleteIt seems that Velasco Carballo is really powerful.
DeleteAbout England, it would be hard to say that Kavanagh deserves a promotion, in reality there are no names at moment after Taylor and Oliver.
DeleteThe situation of Italian referees is particular, indeed in this update one could have expected Mariani promotion to Elite, after the management by committee, but he clearly disappointed in some games, and, maybe more important, he was very poor this season domestically in serie A and B, making many crucial mistakes.
Guida with that long injury that prevented him for getting something and so you have this situation.
I think that now Guida can start from an advantage in the fight to Elite, than Mariani. The former is definitely a better and more solid referee, but he has to solve the physical troubles.
Having said that, in recent times Italy and England never had four Elite referees, so the situation with Spain is different. They had 4 and 2 retired. It is a high number, you maybe understand what i mean. Basically there was some work and focus on Hernandez Hernandez but not in recent times and definitely less if compared to other referees, but in this case this was definitely enough.
The fact is that once you join Elite, differently from other categories, you never get demoted, so committee is very careful, but in the case of the Spanish there wasn't this problem, because even if he shows certain performances, they have other two Elite...
Some demotions in Category 1. Buquet and Vad are main names.
ReplyDeleteSorry would have prefered to publish this with my account - Adrien
DeleteAfter appointed in quite sonorous match in certain terms, Vad demoted? Why he appointed in that match?
ReplyDeleteSorry I just see the demotion to second category. I think it's really unfair the demotion of Ruddy Buquet; if I'm not wrong he is still N.3 in France behind Turpin and Letexier and probably before Bastien. Undeserved. What do you think about Costa Verissimo and Jovic ? I guess they are not worse than Aranovskyi or Dabanovic or Weinberger or Beaton, who never performed or never have been appointed as Cat 1
ReplyDeleteBefore you comment on Buquet you should watch the Slavia Prague - Panathinaikos match last August. One of the worst performance I have seen.
DeleteFor having followed the French championship throughout the season.
DeleteBuquet is even outside the top 5 in France behind Turpin (n'1), Letexier (n'2), Bastien (n'3) in terms of refereeing matches, even Pignard, Brisard, Delajod and Millot are ahead of him.
His demotion to Cat 2 and his age could mean that he will no longer be a FIFA referee in 2024.
Given that Abed (long injured) has been demoted to Division 2 for 2023/2024, he will logically lose his FIFA badge.
I’m also quite shock with demotion of Jovic, after only last year he got chance to be promoted.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, one can understand Buquet's, Vad's and Boyko's demotions -> age, perhaps also performances.
DeleteSchüttengruber and Veríssimo most likely performances.
But difficult to understand what is the reason of Jović' and Palabıyık's demotions. I don't think they were thaaat weak but of course I didn't follow all their games. We have to believe UEFA had their reasons...
Tbh I do think Palabiyik's performances were weak.
DeleteIn fact, the Turk is the only referee that hasn't been 'replaced' by a compatriot in this category updates.
UgurB (I can't login my Google account with my new device so I appear as Anonymous) - I can understand situation of Ali Palabiyik in domestic league he had so many problems and probably he won't continue as a referee in Turkish League. If he wants to, he might have chance in Middle East. But I can't understand Rosetti's approach (Ceferin is also a factor imo) to Turkish Referees. Apart from Halil Umut Meler (I also think he is not treated fair in the elite category), no proper chances given to cat 2 Turkish referees. Last Euro 2024 qualifying games, Arda Kardesler has been appointed to a very low profile game, but no other Turkish ref got an appointment. If there is any problem with Turkish Committee UEFA has to declare that. Otherwise I will keep thinking, there is some political reasons in UEFA.
DeleteFábio José Costa Veríssimo - António Emanuel Carvalho Nobre
ReplyDeleteFran Jović - Igor Pajač
Are indeed particular movements, that in recent times were not made, demoting a referee from a Category after a not so long time in favor of other names, we must draw conclusion that both extremely disappointed committee. Can't be for age reasons...
Very particular situation in Croatia, I cannot completely understand it. Obviously something has happened with Fran Jovic. Unfortunately I dont have insider information, but a huge fall has to have some reason. After few very good seasons, this spring he was domestically appointed last time in matchday 27/36 in March and then not for 9 consecutive rounds (only 4OF and VAR), with the exception of one 2nd league game. At the same time, Igor Pajac had a terrible performance in a crucial game for european competition spots, only to be appointed for another derby match the week after and then Croatian Cup final. My guess is that it was already clear that he is waiting for the promotion (maybe even previously communicated switch with Jovic) so the committee didnt want to damage his reputation by suspension.
DeleteI completely agree with one of the comments above about Dario Bel as a much better candidate, if not this, then next summer. He had very convincing and very consistent performances domestically and also internationally, he was a part of the mentoring program (working with Kassai) etc.
Dario Bel has been at a high level of refereeing for the last couple of seasons in the domestic championship, but he is also excellent in UEFA competitions. He is currently in the UEFA mentoring program and it would be nice to see him progress to a higher category.
DeleteVery strange promotion of pajac, very bad performances in Europe
DeletePajač is one of the worst referees in Croatia, simply he is just not talented... But Uefa leaders like guys like Pajac...
DeleteI think the two most interesting areas are demotions from First to Second (men) and promotions from First to Elite (women). I really expected Shukrula to make the cut, she seemed to be getting some really good games (and seemed more in focus compared to some other referees who have been promoted), any opinions?
ReplyDeleteDeserved and expected for Nyberg & Peljto, more surprising/political for HH - but very happy for him nonetheless, and I think he's good enough for the category.
ReplyDeleteVery surprised to see Berke & Pajač instead of their talent & mentored compatriots Bogár (goes to U19) & Bel
Balakin, very good referee but I think he was 'forgotten' by UEFA until they realized Ukraine was getting no Second Cat representation (Boyko demoted, Aranovsky is on his last legs) and Monzul was a mess.
Martínez Munuera honestly was the best Spanish option for First Cat (well Soto Grado might be better but his UEFA parcours is 'special' due to his age), no-nonsense referee who isn't a 10/10 in nothing but a 8/10 in everything, maybe UEFA were impressed by his good performance in the Clásico Copa del Rey SF 2nd leg
Lukjančukas & Delajod... guess the Frenchman convinced in his UYL final but let it there, but I'm not convinced, specially the Lithuanian when there's already Rumsas. Papapetrou doesn't convince me, either.
Saggi, Lindhout, Krogh, Nobre, expected & deserved. Very happy for Xhaja, I was a bit afraid that Albania couldn't have two referees in First Cat and Jorgji's presence could harm his chances, glad I was proven wrong.
Boiko only demoted? He currently referees in MLS, which is outside UEFA...
DeleteI think that's because he has been kept on the Ukrainian list as FIFA referee, just as name, so a demotion because he will not get any game. I think you can also link the promotion of Balakin to this decision. I would give a try to the still relatively young Ukrainian referee...
DeleteCongrats, well deserved for Peljto and Nyberg, and not surprising for Hdz Hdz.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know, why Swiss Referee‘s like Schnyder, Faehndrich are not promoted? Switzerland has a good level of football and good league.
ReplyDeleteYes thats true. The swiss level of football is very good. I saw that 2 women referees are promoted to first category. So three women are in the first, one in the elite and no men promoted. Surprise. Men only one elite and the other one second category. Surprise that also grundbach is not promoted. She is one of the strongest referee including men in switzerland. Lets see the next few years.
DeleteGuys, what about FIFA refs demotions and new openings in second cat. When will them be defined?
ReplyDeleteI believe it will be in the beginning of the 23/24 season or maybe only for the second part of the season.
DeleteAbsolutely agree
DeleteCongratulations and well deserved promotions for Nyberg, Peljto, Saggi, Lindhout, and Xhaja. Totally understandable about the political background on Hernández Hernández promotion but to be clear he is still a good referee. The vacancies of Lahoz and Del Cerro understandable created a vacuum and needed to be filled. He deserves it if people think so or not.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Are the Assistant Referees categorized the same way as referees or is it based on the working partnerships those ARs have with the UEFA category referees?
UEFA often organizes courses for top assistant referees, but they have never been categorized like it is for referees.
DeleteWith the recent change on payments, as far as club competitions are concerned (CL, EL, ECL), the fee depends exclusively on the stage of the match they go to officiate, while in other cases (national team matches, qualifiers) on the category of the main referee appointed for the game.
Could someone please let us know what exactly are the current referee fees for UEFA club finals, semi-finals, Quarter-finals, Round of 16 and group stage matches?
DeleteIt would be better to categorise assistant referees, maybe the better assistant referees could work with different country referees like before
DeleteWhy UEFA is still not seeing how good referee Georgi Kabakov is? Ok i see that now he is far for promotion but since long time he doesnt even get chances to get it.
ReplyDeleteIf I’m not mistaken he got his chance last year, similar with Jovic and he missed it. His situation now similar with Treimanis and even Ekberg.
DeletePajac for Jovic, for me very, very unusual decision from UEFA (Roberto Rosetti), it is higher politics in coalition domestic federation and Uefa... I don't know what is happened with Jovic, but Pajac without any important match in first category, this is realy big power from him personaly and his federation friend. Also his shape in domestic league were very, very bad not jusz this year, already all years before. Totally undeserved. My choice would be Dario BEL.
ReplyDeleteKarim Abed was demoted, but still on UEFA list?
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a special situation for him.
DeleteHe hadn't refereed a match since the 2021/2022 season following a long injury and illness.
During the 2022/2023 season, he refereed mainly 3rd division matches. A few 2nd division matches and 1 1st division match at the very end of the season.
His demotion to the 2nd division for the 2023/2024 season will result in the loss of his FIFA status.
I would add that Buquet, having been demoted to Cat 2 and given his age, could also lose his FIFA status.
For France, this means the possibility of one or two new FIFA referees for 2024.
I my want need for referee Euro 2024 final tournament
