    1. Yes, we will see about appointments, maybe, given that it will be a particular management in these preliminary rounds, they will not appear on uefa site. Also, not a case that we have three referees coming from countries with VAR.

    2. You don't think they will show up two days before the games as usual?

  3. While in Italy Allard Lindhout has become the new Byron Moreno, we learn from newspapers that it was also Gabriele Gravina, FIGC president and UEFA Vice president, to invite committee to introduce VAR at U21. But maybe this would have happen even without his words. About the Dutch referee, today's game will be the last one for him and then he will go home (but not difficult to guess that).

  4. But meanwhile, he has been promoted Cat1.
    IMO, not deserved

    1. Sorry IMO you are biased, you can’t decide promotion/demotion only by single match and ignore many good match from him.

    2. Yes indeed, in this case the timing is the worst possible for Lindhout, but we can't judge based only on one game. I'm curious now about his next appointments in UEFA after today.

    3. It's the exact same case like with Kuĺbakoŭ. The Belarussian was promoted to Elite before the U21EURO in 2019 and then made a serious technical mistake at the tournament. RefCom obviously didn't draw conclusions after that.

    4. They didn’t?

    5. No. They still make summer recategorization before the U21EURO.

    6. They actually drew conclusions after that technical mistake and did not appoint Kulbakov as they did it before that.

    7. The treatment afterwards is one thing but to make the same mistake of deciding promotions before this tournament is something different.

    8. If you meant drawing conclusions that way, yes, RefCom should have not made the same mistake.

    1. So, VAR appointments indeed to be released two days before the game. Interesting choice for Danish officials, not even at this level, committee allows Danish VARs. Dutch crew sent to Iceland, I think that it will be difficult to make all these appointments on next round, then it will start also for Europa League, but we will see.
About Manschot and Ruperti, it is now very easy to say that they could have helped Lindhout at under 21...

  6. Is VAR really needed in these matches? It's barely a professional match if we are being honest...

    1. To be honest, the U21EURO showed that most referees are not longer able to referee without VAR. Some mistakes are understandable, of course, but some of them are disqualifying. I know Roberto Rosetti was really upset with the amount of VAR interventions last season, demanding from referees to be focused and referee like there is no VAR. But we all can see the old times have gone and won't be back anymore. It's totally different refereeing nowadays. Much weaker I would say. And in such case, VAR is a must...
