  1. Farewell match for Yevheni Aranovskiy?

    1. I would not necessarily describe as a poor game for Makkelie, it's the type of game that the big elites often get in these gets in the qualifiers. Hot atmosphere, teams that can get extremely fed up when stufff goes against team, tough game to whistle

      Delete
    2. Gillett's game isn't a "good" game. It's being played at an empty neutral venue. Sure, Israel is a decent enough national team. But nothing special. On the other hand, Belarus is quite poor and more so having to play away from home without fans.

Games in the Balkans are tough not necessarily because of the teams involved but because of the atmosphere. But other than that, it's nothing special. Kosovo as team is still in development and this Romania isn't the Romania of old. It's an assignment that any run of the mill "elite" should be able to handle.

  3. Good to see that an Ukrainian referee could be appointed again.
Nice appointments for some Second group referees.
Gillett with a game in his "first" FIFA season, which is unusual, but obviously he is a special case with his previous experience from Australia.
Stefanski with a quite important match in that group, where maybe an Elite referee could have been expected.
Makkelie as only Elite referee in a less sonorous, but important and possibly quite challenging game.

  4. Rocchi will go to Scotland on a fact-finding mission about Gillett (I suspect he will be less impressed that my compatriots about the Aussie but let's see) and Swiss law-enforcer Lukas Fähndrich wins a really nice appmnt, where he will surely have to act as a law-enforcer, after his nice 'debutisation' for Schärer in March's SCOESP. Makkelie can go 'back to basics' in his match; the last time he refereed Kosovo (playoff vs. MKD), the Dutchman was superb.

    1. Sorry my mistake, Rocchi game is in Hungary, neutral venue.

    2. Gillett's choice becomes even (slightly) more relevant then, compared to just sending someone 'north of the border' from England to Scotland.

      Delete
    3. I don't rate Gillett particularly highly either

  5. Italian top referees Daniele Minelli and Niccolò Baroni have been caught writing anonymous messages on Italian referee forum arbitri.com in praise of themselves and attacking their colleagues.

You may know that they were involved in a former scandal in Italy. They were relegated together but were reintegrated after it was proven that the votes of the referees were manipulated to their disfavor. Then they denounced the leadership to the authorities.

Certainly they experienced injustices but this is very infortunate.

    1. Something similar cost a very experienced and highly rated NBA an opportunity to do games in the Finals this year.

    2. They should be out for at least 1 year. Who is ready to manipulate the perception of his own matches will be open for much more manipulation in future. Thats why I personally would favour them to start again from basic or end the career.

  6. Jarred Gillets return to international football becoming potentially the first ref to referee games for 2 confederations

  12. Clay Ruperti and Edwin van de Graaf are VAR with Makkelie. I am curious if that will be the future. Ruperti is a respected VAR in NL and did Ajax -PSV with Makkelie.

    1. Makkelie has been with van Boekel for a quite long time, before him I remember Blom. Now it should be the first time with Ruperti.
Also, about VARs, I still don't understand why for some countries (see Bulgaria) they are accepted by UEFA, while for others (Hungary, Austria) no... that's maybe an analysis of the level reached by VAR development in the respective countries, or maybe there are strict rules like a certain time since the introduction.... really don't know and I'm very curious about this aspect.

      Delete
    2. Dutch referees are not allowed to choose their VAR.

Van Boekel really messed up this season, but he has a friend in the Refcom and they kept backing him. If I were Makkelie, I’d prefer a different VAR. Trust is very important if you work in teams.

      Delete
    3. Makkelie did the EL final in 2020 with Kamphuis, originally paired with Nijhuis. Nijhuis was later replaced by Blom, who became main VAR in 2021. Than at EURO 2020, Blom was VAR, but after the opener game Italy - Turkey, where he missed a handball, Van Boekel took over for Makkelie.
Than Blom also got injured so after a few months, rules dictated that Blom was not allowed to be VAR anymore.
I suspect Van Boekel won't go on fir years in the future. In the Netherlands, Ruperti worked with Makkelie before and he has been AVAR in quite some international games already.

But Makkelie had quite a few different VARs.

    4. Higler is a more experienced VMO at UCL level.

      Delete
    5. As a comment on Chefren's answer about nationalities of VARs, as far as I'm concerned not a single time has a Dane been as VAR, despite having used the system since 2020/21

      Delete
    6. @ Elliot: tbf even more strange that Slovenian VMO’s are trusted and Danish VMO’s are not.

To compare: Maribor #148 vs Copenhagen #44.
FIFA ranking: Denmark #19, Slovenia #59.

And there plenty other examples. The VMO’s from smaller football nations are only trusted if there is enough political support, it seems. Call it double standards or favoritism. Whatever. I don’t see any ‘logic’ at all.

      Delete
    7. Makkelie chews up and spits out partners in his referee team. His team is like a revolving door in which only he seems to be the constant.

  17. It seems wrong YC to Ristovski by Faehndrich, MKD players furious with him already.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hardly a big mistake by Fähndrich imo, it's never easy to see such things in crowded penalty areas

      Delete
  19. Wrong VAR interaction and disallowed goal against Turkey 40th min. Bognar made a wrong decision imo.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. IMO supportable to give that as a foul - but not sure, whether that was really a clear and obvious situation.

      Delete
    2. Remember who is in charge in the VAR room!

      Delete
    3. Is Pairetto that much involved with the situations?

      Delete
    4. Pairetto made several mistakes even as VAR in serie A, calling referees for phantom fouls, but AIA continues to appoint him. I'm really speechless.

      Delete
    5. (and I agree, this was a foul expected to be whistled on the pitch, but definitely NO VAR stuff...) in doubt, he always prefers to call!

      Delete
    6. @Phillipp S Turkish player plays with the ball and this foot has to land somewhere. If the Latvian defender's foot remains there, how can this be a foul? Meanwhile, if this happen's at penalty area, the defender kicks the ball first, then hits the opponents foot will this be a penalty?

      Delete
    7. If he can only play the ball combined with stamping on the opponent's foot this can be assesses as a careless (or reckless foul), even if the ball is played first. Normally you don't give penalties for that, but such situations are whistled in midfield not too rarely IMO. Therefore a grey area situation for me.

      Delete
    8. This has to be something adjusted... Foul situations has to be handled everwhere the same. Handball changes being an attacker or defender but foul is foul anywhere on the pitch...

      Delete
    9. Does the turkish player play the ball? If yes, what did he do wrong? no foul for me…

      Delete
  20. Too many excessive use of whistle from Faehndrich, I doubt that Scandinavian Referee and the others who rated Faenhdrich really high are wrong, but this is really not impressive performance from him in 1st half.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It’s likely poor performance from him, especially not showing YC to Mudryk, and so on hopefully someone will assest him in detail

      Delete
  21. Handball penalty for Greece in 11' after OFR.
Goal for Ireland allowed by VAR after offside call by the AR (27').
    Both correct decisions IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Anonymos you don't need to post 5 times about Lukas Fähndrich first half performance. Have in mind that there is 12 games tonight so we can not spam this forum. And remember this is not fan Blogspot, seems like you did not liked any action going against North Macedonia?

I will try to watch this game later and then give comment on yellow card in minute 8, missed penalty call(as I assume from your text that VAR took it) and missed mandatory yellow card for Mudryk.

I saw potential in him for Cat1 yes but this is his first hot game for him in Europe so he might be under impression .

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hopefully you can sum up his performance and I don’t think that my comment was “spam”, I’m only reported some of the incidents that he could do better and don’t get me wrong, I choose to watch his game because positive review of him but maybe he is also under pressure so he didn’t showed quite impressive performance in 1st half.

  23. Handball penalty for France in 45' after OFR.
Arm clearly in an unnatural position, but deflected by the defender's head immediately before the arm contact.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Very obvious sliding tackle penalty for England in 30' directly given by the referee.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Very interesting OFR for Makkelie for an offiside in 70'. It might be a sensational interention by Clay Ruperti.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Kabakov completely lost control in Cardiff

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For what ?

      Delete
    2. Totally disagree!
He was calm and correct in a quite challenging game! Difficult direct RC for N13 home (supported by AR2)
2 of the goals were after possible foul in App but correctly allowed by the R.
For me good performance by Kabakov in a
      quite chalanging game.

      Delete
  27. OFR for handball in Malta, penalty given to England... hand looks close to body, I don't think punishable handling and I think even less that it's VAR stuff

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm not convinced either, but we know how strict UEFA is with these handballs…

      Delete
    2. It's difficult, even in my opinion not a 100% situation, but here with Croatian VAR this should be something related to their domestic assessment, because I'm more and more convinced UEFA can't give consistent guidelines about handballs to VARs from all countries, there will be always something subjective. Nevertheless, I can't condemn the call.

      Delete
    3. Not too wrong IMO, the stiff arm increases the body surface in a manner, that can be assessed as not natural, especially as the arm even slightly moves towards the path of the ball.

      Delete
    4. Or in other words: Maybe not, what football expects, but probably, what UEFA expects based on the decisions during the season. Therefore also the OFR for a missed incident was justified IMO.

      Delete
  28. Two OFRs for Gillett in Belarus - Israel, to be rewatched to first one, while the second is fully correct for a clear penalty and reckless action. Really sorry to say that after Taylor and Oliver I don't see any strong English referee to follow at moment!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. First one is one of those, where the player behind runs completely normally, but his knee is touched by the foot of the player in front of him. So the question is, whether such actions are careless or not. IMO, there is not really a clear interpretation, so I have some doubts about the OFR.
IMO the second one is equally difficult, because the defender plays the ball much earlier than sliding into his opponent. Yes, they can be given, if one still thinks, that the reckless aspect of the action is prevailing, but is it really a clear situation?

      Delete
    2. Brooks is the only hope based on age and showcase of ability

      Delete
    3. Brooks was poor in the last game I saw him

      Delete
    4. Nope. IMO the only hope for England is Michael Salisbury.

      Delete
    5. Darren England and Brooks were considered to be the future of Emgland’s refereeing, however England’s development seemed to stall last season. Probably now he has even been overtaken by Rob Jones in the pecking order.

      Delete
  29. The second YC in Latvia - Turkey should have been straight RC.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For me, there is not enough intensity for a RC. Dangerous and reckless, but in the end just a normal "high boot" situation and nothing too excessive, I think.

      Delete
    2. I'm not sure there was a contact with the head of Turkish player, maybe it should have been just an IFK.

      Delete
  30. Well, at the end of this set of games, let's say VARs have more freedom than UEFA club competitions. Many OFR and some of them very controversial. You can see that consistency is an impossible aim in this context.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Extremely long VAR check in DENNIR and in the end a disallowed goal for Northern Ireland for offside. I personally don't understand why it took so long time, it was tight yes, but still pretty clear when you pause at the correct frame. On the other hand, a very easy game for Stefanski, no big incidents to report

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Maybe they checked the possible attacking foul first?
But yes, over 5 minutes (!) is certainly way too long for a VAR check.

      Delete
    2. Yeah probably. But I think it was quite clear that it wasn't a foul. Unfortunately everything seems to take at least double the time with the cheaper VAR systems used in Qualifiers and UNL GS compared to those used in the UCL and UEL...

  32. 2nd YC against North Macedonia in 72' completely undoubtful for a clear SPA offence.

Check this OFR for Makkelie that I was writing above at 22:18

This is pretty much the only interesting moment from this game. The speed of the game was very low because of the pitch, many techincal mistakes by the players, thing that helped the Dutch a lot. A good performance by the referee, he had full control. The players acknowladged him from the beginning as one of the best referees in Europe and respected his decisions.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, interesting situation.
First question: Is the attacker active before the defender gets the ball. IMO clearly not, because he doesn't make any challenging movement towards the defender.
Second question: Can the defender play the ball in a controlled manner?
Not so clear. The ball comes rather slowly and on the floor. However the player is still sitting on the ground, which can be a good argument against controlled play. On the other hand, this is not one of the criteria outlined by IFAB (https://www.theifab.com/news/law-11-offside-deliberate-play-guidelines-clarified/).
So overall, I would support Makkelie here, but for me onside would be the slightly better decision.

      Delete
    2. Totally correct OFR for gaining an advantage after opponent last played the ball. In such kind of situations its a subjective to decide whether its controlled and delibarate play by defender or save(raction).

      Delete
    3. In my opinion offside is more for the fact that the KOS player is challenging the ROM player for the ball. I think you could argue that the actions wasn't done in control but I think that is more subjective

      Delete
  34. RC against Ireland in 90+5` for violent conduct, strong bodycheck against the opponent when play was already stopped. Decision is OK, but I didn't really expect it given the high bar for VC, we have seen in recent times

    ReplyDelete
  35. RC against Wales in 78' for violent conduct, reported by the AR after an altercation with the goalkeeper off the ball. Looked quite suspicious and like a possible kick, but I couldn't really spot the clear VC action so far.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. All I see there is simulation.

      Delete
    2. Imo it is clear Violent conduct and the body language of N 13 Wales shows that he knew what he did.

      Delete
  36. I hope someone could sum up full Bulgarian crew performances in Cardiff because I watch another match and I’m curious about their performance, full crew from “small countries” take an action in former EPL venue.

    ReplyDelete
  37. And also Kazakhstan got a handball penalty after OFR in 64'.
This one is rather (but not clearly) wrong IMO, as the arm position appears quite natural and relatively close to the body + the movement tends to be away from the ball. Whether the ball would have hit his body or not without the handball seems not completely clear from the angle shown.

    ReplyDelete
  38. How many OFR in total tonight?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nine OFRs, then you can add three factual interventions to that as well. Not a very strong day for the referees, with only two games without the need for VAR intervention

      Delete
  39. Weak performance by Grinfeld in POLGER friendly. His style and fitness were good but I don't know why he's changed his once strict style to such lenient one. It doesn't suit him completely. Three mandatory YCs missed to Polish side in the first half (very reckless studs tackle by Bednarek in 3' and two SPA/LoR holding offences by S. Szymański and Kamiński in 32' and 36' respectively). In the second half, wrongly guessed penalty for non-existent handball overturned after OFR.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thats the problem, when a law enforcer feels to be driven to play a smooth ref just to please the comittee instead of staying true to his unique own style. Sure everybody needs room for improvement, and many great refs ended their careers more leniant than they started, but the more experience you have the easier you can adapt your style to the character of the game. Brych was a very good example for such a development. But Grinfelds body language looked strange, like s.o. not being fine with his own role.

      Delete
  40. All VAR interventions tonight:

GREIRL (Lechner): 2 VAR interventions - PK for handball for Greece, then an intervention for a factual decision (Irish goal wrongly disallowed for offside)

GIBFRA (Aranovsky): 1 OFR - PK for France for handball

MLTENG (Pajač): 1 OFR - PK for England for handball

MKDUKR (Fähndrich): 1 OFR - PK for Ukraine for handball

LATTUR (Bognár): 1 OFR - Turkish goal disallowed for attacking foul in the APP

DENNIR (Stefański): 1 VAR factual intervention - Northern Ireland late equalizer disallowed, missed offside by AR1

BLRISR (Gillett): 2 OFRs - Israeli goal disallowed for attacking foul in the APP, then a PK for Israel + YC for an initially missed follow-through incident

KOSROU (Makkelie): 1 OFR - Kosovo goal disallowed for offside, referee invited to OFR to assess the attacking player's involvement

SMRKAZ (Papapetrou): 1 OFR - PK for Kazakhstan for handball

If I'm not wrong (didn't follow closely FINSVN & ANDSUI) only 3 out of 12 referees this evening (Cuadra Fernández, Kabakov & Berke) ended their games without VAR interventions to change decisions. If I was Rosetti I would be very disappointed.

    1. That’s many OFR’s indeed, but how many should be spotted live?
Especially handballs are not always easy to detect and are often not blameworthy or leading to a lower mark

    2. ANDSUI had a factual VAR intervention on Switzerland's first goal, wrongly flagged offside by AR1

    3. I think an OFR in Kosovo is a perfect solution. The kind of moment where you want the referee to decide. I also see there the acceptance of the players and also that its nearly impossible to assess this live.

    1. Still we didn’t had BLR officials despite their teams can compete in UEFA next season.
Interesting to see that 3 Israeli officials has been appointed, especially for Leibovitz, I think it’s debut for him, debut in Balkan will be more special, same like Faehndrich.
Siebert with one-sided match but it was a Euro match replay, still good and will be suit for him.
      Stavrev with farewell match?
Istvan Vad with good appointment given the context rising of Scottish and Georgian football recently, better than one-sided match for Beaton, Nobre, and Glova, especially for Glova, if I’m not mistaken, in recent times he quite got many shameful appointment.
Interesting to see Pawson in Balkan, would be very challenging game on paper for him, I don’t think this is good strategy from UEFA to appointed ENG ref to Balkan side.

  42. Hey there, I'm a professional hacker with extensive experience in the field. I've worked with various companies as a hacker, and after retiring from that, I'm now working independently.

If you're looking for someone who can help you gain unauthorized access to a social media account or ANY OTHER SYSTEM, I'm the right person for the job.

It has been widely recognized for a long time that finding a legitimate hacker on the Dark Net Market (DNM) is extremely difficult, despite the high demand for their services. It is also not uncommon for people to fall victim to scams when attempting to pay for hacking services. A true professional in this field would not offer their services for less and anyone who accepts less is either inexperienced and likely to fail, or a fraud.

The cost of the service depends on the complexity of the task. If you require assistance, you can contact me and I will let you know if I can help.

    I specialize in

    •Website hacking
•Facebook and other social media hacking
    •Database hacking, & Blog Cleaning
    •Phone and Gadget Hacking
    •CREDIT CARD MISHAPS
    •Clearing Of Criminal Records
