Penalty given after VAR review (M'gladbach-Berlin): I like how fast the review was made and final decision was taken.

    1. 1st situation
This is offside only with VAR, without VAR- play on

      2nd sitiation
0:58- you can see the reason why Steinhaus didn't saw the contact. Her view was completely blocked, only AR could have help her.
I agree, VAR review was fast but body language is something I really don't like :) To much hectic walking, like in the 1st situation.

    2. 1) Offside, good decision - but I am afraid in case of no VAR DFB would have said it's "too close to call", as it happened in similar situations during the last weeks.
      2) nothing to add
      3) Handball penalty is OK, but I have some doubts whether it is clear and obvious by the recently strict application of this condition - maybe...

    3. But it's really too close to call, realy small ofside.
I know, offside is offside, 1 cm or 100 cm it's the same but sometimes we should follow common sense

    4. With VAR this really is a difficult question. There have been already some discussions in Bundesliga, because in those tight situations the VARs seem to sometimes intervene and sometimes not.
Are there similar issues in other VAR countries?

    5. There was a goal denied for Offside by VAR too at the league cup final in France.
RayHD already posted it few days ago

Disallowed goal due to offside. Offside? Handball? (VAR)

    6. DFB published statements:
      Referee Stegemann on 3):
"In this situation, although I perceived on the field that the Wolfsburg defender has touched the ball with his stretched out arm, I could see from my point of view no active movement of this arm to the ball. Accordingly, I have - also in view of the short distance and the line of sight of the defender - decided to continue playing the game. In the next game interruption, I then described my impressions to (VAR) Bastian Dankert, whereupon he told me that my perception and the present images would not match and therefore a review would be useful. On the monitor, I was able to see a short, active movement of the outstretched arm in the trajectory of the ball, so due to this circumstance I came to the conclusion "punishable handball". I then changed my decision. Of course, this process has taken some time, but at the end of the day, making the right decision is a top priority. There is security before speed."

      VAR Petersen on 2):
"After a tackle by Lustenberger to Elvedi in the penalty area of Hertha BSC I said to my assistant (VAR2) Robert Schröder: "You watch the game, I check the situation." This was a common procedure, because we check every situation in the box in Cologne's Video-Assist-Center, which could lead to a penalty. While I started the examination, (referee) Bibiana Steinhaus asked me to look at the situation. The operator, who is responsible for the technical provision of the images, played the situation in parallel from different perspectives. I looked for the best perspective on one of the screens and looked at the process in slow motion. "That's a penalty," I said to Robert. To be absolutely sure that Lustenberger had not played the ball, I asked the operator to bring in the scene again from the perspective of the camera behind the goal. Now I could clearly see that the ball was not played, and had a clear result. At the same moment Bibiana interrupted the game because of another foul. She asked, "Martin, what is it?" I replied, "That was a clear foul in the box, check the scene again." As Bibiana made her way to the review area, I told the operator which camera shot he should show her in the stadium. Once there, she examined the situation and decided on penalty."

    2. At least Mažić and Zwayer, with only one game, should be quite sure to get the second match...

    5. @Chefren One certain Dutch referee (I've stopped taking names :D) is with 0 matches in KO so logically he should also get a game but most things these days are completely devoid of logic :'(

    1. Safe choices by the FA RefCom, which I think is required considering the presence of VAR.
      Oliver for the final?
Swarbrick and Friend would be the other options IMO.

    2. Oliver as main referee and Tierney as 4th official will be my choices!!

  5. Tackle from Leipzig - Leverkusen. Set the 1/4 speed and you'll see what happens to Charles Aránguiz' right knee... Of course, no whistle and no VAR intervention...

    1. I'm sure we will see Collum again, that's one name, rather for EL.

Brych, Cakir, Kuipers and Rocchi seems like logic choice for both semis (EL, CL)

      + Skomina/Mažić.

      What about Orsato and Kralovec?
      Your opinion?

    2. Why not, he didn't have crucial mistakes in last match.
      Am I wrong?

  7. Chefren and people in the know, what are your thoughts on Orsato? Any more European appointments for him? VAR in Russia?

    1. I think we can expect him in Europa League semifinals.
