Confirmation from the FIFA referee press conference of the 11 teams still left at the tournament.
ReplyDeleteBibianna Steinhaus is not one of them.
Confirmed out with muscle injury.
DeleteJackson, which are the teams? Thank you

BEAUDOIN Marie-Soleil
QUIN Liang
FRAPPART Stephanie
BORJAS Melissa
KULCSAR Katalin

PUSTOVOITOVA Anastasia
MONZUL Kateryna
UMPIERREZ Claudia
Thanks, Nathan!!!
DeleteWould suggest Frappart will have one of the remaining QFs
DeleteThe South American referees have impressed me and with none of their teams left they could dominate the appointments to come
It's sad to see that FIFA has gone "all in" in backing Qin (CHN) after her highly unconventional performance.
DeleteIMO, FIFA sends two messages:
1) If you act poorly enough as a team and threaten to walk off. You can bully the referee into disregarding the LOTG against you.
2) That it is okay for a referee to stop using the LOTG to appease a team that feels that it is being unfairly treated.
FIFA's given figures and statistics.
ReplyDeleteThis is from the press conference.
107 yellow cards, 3 red cards.
VAR general overview:
441 incidents checked.
29 VAR Reviews, 22 on field, 7 only VAR.
10 checks per match.
1 VAR review every 1.52 matches
Decisions changed 25.
Decisions confirmed 4.
8 Final decisions wrong.
92.51% correct without VAR.
98.18% correct with VAR.

Delete14 goals correctly disallowed by AR's.
6 decisions corrected by VAR.
While our male CONCACAF referee's were a major disappointment in Russia last year. I am happy to see our female counterparts killing it in France this year. Well done ladies, keep up the amazing work!
ReplyDeleteAbout the choices made by committee: one must mention Ri and also Keighley among the disappointments. Especially the North Korean: given her experience she was surely a candidate for final, but again it seems as she didn't convince committee. For Keighley, it was difficult, or maybe even impossible to repeat the exploit she had 4 years ago, but surely leaving after group stage with only an appearance as fourth official in KO stage is below what she could have expected. Qin confirmed after England - Cameroon, one can discuss about this choice, but very likely she convinced committee.
ReplyDeleteCAF officials were the least used there, only one game for both the appointed referee. Disappointing for Africa.
Staubli maybe among the UEFA officials is the "negative surprise"...
Very good CONCACAF with two referees.
A last comment about Steinhaus: hope she can recover soon from her injury.
The video of full press conference:

So Chefren mentioned this in his message above. I'd like to get the opinion of the rest of you.
ReplyDelete1) Biggest Disappointments
2) Biggest Surprises
Disappointments: Ri, Staubli, Fortunato, Adamkova and Steinhaus*
Surprises: Beaudoin and Jacewicz
*Yes, I know that Steinhaus is injured. But I was not fully convinced by her sole performance.
Disappointments: Keighley, Lengwe, Staubli, Ri
DeleteSurprises: Beaudoin, Batista
Rather based on expectations vs real appointments than on performances
I'm watching the press conference: among other things, Collina reported that there weren't yellow cards for dissent / protests at all. So this should mean that Yamashita in Germany - Nigeria (33') did an identity mistake but after VAR check she didn't change her decision. We assumed that card had been given for protests, because after a foul worthy of YC, she booked another player...
ReplyDeleteDiscussed here:
http://law5-theref.blogspot.com/2019/06/2019-fifa-womens-wc-referee_21.html
Reading between "the lines" Collina's words, it is clear why they kept Qin after England - Cameroon. They are very angry with Cameroon for the behavior against the officials and the protests, so in this way they wanted to give a signal. Under this point of view, they have indeed all my support. What Cameroon did there was not acceptable.
DeletePenalty by Borjas in NED - JPN seems to have been assessed as very correct decision.
DeleteIt is easy not to have cards for dissent if you are not allowed to give any. Statistics are a wonderful thing.
DeleteKate Jacewicz in Sweden - Canada (65') returned back to monitor after having left it because she noticed some protests from players about a possible foul (holding) before the handball-penalty, so she asked VAR for checking that and she watched again the monitor.
DeleteDiscussed here:
http://law5-theref.blogspot.com/2019/06/2019-fifa-womens-wc-referee_24.html
Collina is excellent in communication :)
DeleteHe said that we will have more VAR interventions at this tournament if compared to Russia 2018 because now VAR officials are more expert and so they can see what they maybe did not see in past. A different reason to justify what should be commented more honestly in: "We would have liked to see referees on the pitch making such calls without VAR...". No, now the slogan is "VAR can see more". :)
While Cameroon's action were indeed unacceptable.
DeleteIt's a complete lack of professionalism for a FIFA referee to allow himself/herself to be intimidated or bullied into disregarding the LOTG.
That's fine if the Ref Comm kept her around in a sign of solidarity. But if she is assigned as a main referee in place of a referee who wasn't as controversial as her. That would be the ultimate injustice.
NED - JPN VAR footage and audio.

I couldn't help but feel as if I was watching 3 politicians speaking.
ReplyDeleteI don't get why you dislike Collina and the whole department so much. All he said at the conference was fully reasonable. I agree on every word he said. I also admire his great communication skills which he use to tell the truth to the unintelligent media which questions were as ridiculous as always. I was hoping they had finally learned at least something about refereeing but they had not.
DeleteYou've just proven my point, thank you!
DeleteCould you please prove the point to me too?
DeleteI can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
DeleteWhy should you understand it for me? If you prove the point, I will understand what you mean and either change my mind or not.
ReplyDeleteI think Liang was just kept around to send a message of support. If she gets another game I'd be shocked.
ReplyDeleteNo surprises with regards to Staubli, Keighley, Adamkova, or Ri.
Early guesses for the final? I'm all in on Umpierrez. She's kept her hands really clean with no VAR checks and no cards issued so far either, while still having good control of both her matches. I've also been particularly impressed by Beaudoin and Pustovoitova.
IMO Beaudoin was the best so far

So among the referees left only PUSTOVOITOVA is without a knockout match so far. Directly to semifinal??
ReplyDeleteI think so, otherwise I would find strange to keep her without being appointed for any game, not even as fourth official.
DeleteMaybe in this round Frappart had priority because after that she could be out due to France. Normally it is very rare to see a referee directly in semifinal, but the appointment for CL final could allow that.
She's the best UEFA has to offer for this season. Her on field performances have earned her a semi final spot.
DeleteLast year Cunha and Cakir had two group stage matches each, and then they took charge of a SF. Maybe the same for Pustovoitova?
DeleteI think in case of a controversy free performance by Umpierrez. It's straight to the Final for her.
ReplyDeleteIf Umpierrez gets the final, then all the opening and final matches of the men and women world cups would have been handled by referees from South America. Politics in mind. Though with Collina it may be possible.
DeletePerformances not politics should dictate.
DeleteWake up Sheriff..
DeleteThe world cup in 2015 Kateryna Monzul took charge of the oppening match and the final in Canada. Precedence speaks.
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly she was among the best performing referee's in 2015. And she was justifiably rewarded.
DeleteShe had a controversial opening game tho. But Umpierrez with be justifiably rewarded also if she gets the final
DeleteUmpierrez just needs to navigate through Saturday's match controversy free.
DeleteNone of the R16 4th officials were assigned again. The 4th officials for QF stage are BORJAS, KULCSAR, JACEWICZ and QIN. Does this mean these 4 refs will not be selected again?

I did not manage to watch the whole of the Norway - England game, but I had the impression of a good performance by Lucila Venegas (as did the media here who gave her a special focus c. ENG-CMR, for what it's worth). A penalty correctly awarded for a push, correct YC for a reckless tackle at the end.
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to hear from an observer who caught the whole game to give a much better résumé.
Although it is ostensibly clear that Claudia Umpiérrez is candidate no.1 to handle the Final, I don't think we should forget Venegas in the race, if the United States are eliminated. She was trusted to handle Brazil - Sweden semifinal game spectated by a full Maracanã Stadium in Olympics 2016 by FIFA eg. If they accepted her penalty decision in Italy - Brazil (which they never should IMO; zero foul), then we can say that she got through each of her three games without bigger problems. I would not forget Venegas (and others') names just so quickly, although it appears near certain if Umpiérrez handles Italy - Netherlands well she will officiate the Final.
In terms of final candidates this is my list having seen some games and athletics impression by the Referees:
ReplyDeleteBatista (BRA)
all other three CONCACAF officials, specially Borjas (HON)
Jacewicz (AUS) if politically AFC is needed
I don't see Umpierrez as candidate no.1 to be honest.

Does Ms Monzul not know that dives deserve YCs? 2 clear ones in 17 minutes...!!
ReplyDeleteAfter a very good first caution for the deliberate hold
ReplyDeleteChallenge by Henry on Rapinoe in 19th minute should have been a caution imo.
Delete27" French goal kick doesn't leave the penalty box before French player touches it, and no re-kick. Did I miss something?
ReplyDeleteNew rules maybe???
DeletePlease read the appropriate LotG section and changes in them before asking such simple questions. The kicker's teammates have never been prohibited to be in the penalty area when goal kick is taken. But until the introduction of the 19/20 laws they weren't allowed to play the ball until it leaves the penalty area. Now they are. (Opponent s must still stay outside the area.)
DeleteKateryna Monzul reminds me of Eriksson when she reproaches players.
ReplyDeleteFully correct no penalty.
ReplyDeleteNotice how the players never actually go out on the nearest point on the touchline. Especially on the bench side. They always go to the middle line to high five the substituter. Nearest point means straight out like a straight line not towards the middle line.
ReplyDeleteAs long as referee's allow it to happen, it will continue.
DeleteIt is a huge shame that the referees do not enforce the LotG. But there is not a single one who does (in the matches I have seen) so it must be another "recommendation" from the department. Unacceptable.
DeleteI remember it being done in the USA's previous match, Rapinoe went off on the opposite side and walked round behind the goal.
DeleteLOTG? What are those? It seems that they are no longer worth the paper their written on. They're all mere suggestions not Laws or rules.
DeleteMichael, my point was when they are closest to the benches sideline. They don't walk straight out, they walk towards the middle. No big deal for me however a brand new law and immediately not followed. Bad.
DeleteSee my pic. The red line is what they do when they should do the blue line.

No Problem ;-)
Frappart for the final ?
ReplyDeleteGood job by Monzul. Excellent performance by her AR1. They can be satisfied.
ReplyDeleteI agree. AR1 was very good.
DeleteBy the way I would have preferred an OFR for the handball at 86’. Nearly every handball in this WC resulted in a penalty. At the 86’ minute of such a tensed game, this should have been at least an OFR, and could (should ???) have been a penalty, for the uniformity of refereeing. Cf. Borjas, Netherlands v Japan a few days ago.
ReplyDeleteThat is never a handling offence. Arm tucked in, no matter the new interpretation there is no offence made. Clearly tucked in. If VAR checks it basically they are telling the world ''we think this is punishable'' and obviously the ref would check it and say no penalty and it would lead to even more issues.
DeleteAgree. Borjas was back by fifa for his decision. So wrong call here.
DeleteArm tucked in ? Don’t think so...
DeleteArm is absolutely tucked in, it's just that she is not standing in front of the ball. She is standing on the side. I find it unbelievable if a ref thinks that's handling.
Delete@victor I agree : according to the LotG, this is never a handball offence. However, there are many jurisprudences in this WC, and the better one is Borjas’s. For a uniform refereeing, I am convinced that this should have been an OFR at the very least.
DeleteNED - JPN vs this is COMPLETELY different. After reviewing that one several times, I accept that the arm was 45 degrees out, the shot came from 5m away, it's borderline ok to call the handball.
DeleteToday, shot is from 1m (intentionally against the arm to win a penalty), arm is down next to the body in natural position, and she can't cut it off.
If I had it my way, neither would be a penalty, but today it certainly wasn't and didn't require OFR.
Disagree. Lot of minor issues (especially Numbers of throw ins). Misses card with simulation and Morgan’s important foul. And sorry but in thks WC, thks hand is a penalty. The same which assessed as correct PK against Japan...
ReplyDeleteIn the Japan penalty the arm was not tucked in. It was 45 degrees out.
Delete35 degrees are acceptable for you. Not for me...and all french commentators and consulting experts...
DeleteSorry but if you think commentators and ''experts'' (former players with zero referee knowledge) know the laws of the game then keep doing so.
DeleteFully agree with my « compatriote » Frenchref ;))
DeleteEven though I have learnt never to listen to the commentators’ opinion about refereeing.
Of course I agree with Victor! I’m sorry, but these very strong opinions of our two French friends here make me laugh. If you really argue that tonight’s handball and the one in Netherlands-Japan are similar I strongly doubt your objectivity. It’s exactly how Victor describes both situations. No reason at all for OFR, simply not a punishable handball.
DeleteIs this what is called patriotism? Laughable to be honest...
Japan:https://ibb.co/9Wc6CMQ
DeleteUSA1:https://ibb.co/QDGj3xR
USA2:https://ibb.co/pQPpNXq
Probably we are not 100% objective ;)
DeleteBut I think that such a crucial situation could have been reviewed by the central referee. That’s all.
But I repeat : according to the LotG this is NEVER a penalty.
WCReferee basically what you wanted to see is that they watch it to sell the decision better and to get more acceptance. But then again, why do so if they feel it is not punishable? OFR is time wasting.
DeleteAccording to LOTG, never a penalty. But according general lines in this WC, not the same...
DeleteMy conviction is that there is no time-wasting with an OFR at the 86’ of a WC quarter-final. ;)
DeleteBy the way, she looked sure of herself, so an OFR probably wouldn’t have changed anything.
Delete3 out of 10 for Monzul in the French newspaper « L’équipe ». It means nothing in terms of refereeing, but it proves that the handball situation was not black/white area. An OFR was the best solution !
ReplyDeleteFunny, you argue exactly why an OFR was actually NOT required. It was by no means a clear and obvious mistake, and as it wasn’t a missed incident either the protocol gives zero arguments for an OFR to be executed.
DeleteOh, and I still don’t understand what L’equipe’s grading of Monzul should suggest...
I agree with you. However, we saw in this WC OFRs for grey situations, and it could have been the same here.
DeleteWow! Kateryna Monzul observed by Collina. Don't know if officially or not but he was at the stadium.
ReplyDeleteHe was up there besides Infantino, so I am quite sure that he was not the official observer as well as he didn't pay a huge attention to the performance and that he just hanged out with the VIPs. ;)
DeleteI think that the japan situation as well as the possible handling today were in a grey area with arguments for penalty and for „play on“. Both decisions taken on the field are not wrong and at least supportable. So it is correct for me that VAR doesn‘t intervene and that the decisions stand. (that‘s also the way it was before VAR was implemented...)
ReplyDeleteFully agreed with victor, if we are talking about optics the viewers around the world would have been VERY sure that Kateryna Monzul assessed the incident and the handling was not punishable. And it was an objectively correct decision, as it seems everyone here agrees. To compare to Netherlands - Japan is to take the argument to abserdium.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, I was really impressed with how Monzul handled the game. She was able to connect with players despite initially presenting herself as a coldly, and a missed YC, FRA#06, for a heavy studs tackle in 1H was a rare mistake. Don't blame her for not cautioning the simulations, conceptually that doesn't exist in FIFA, she should issue verbal warnings though (look at, Mažić and Neymar). She was able to present firmness in the harder moments of the game as well. Good performance: well done.
Also, an absolutely incredible performance by Maryna Striletska; she has an amazing eagle eye. Many, many offside situations all evaluated correctly, including an unbelievable decision to disallow the 0-3. AT LEAST, she should get 9,0 in UEFA system. Chapeau.
Monzul was really great tonight. Full control and acceptance by the players. Foul distinction was from a high level. Two yellow cards only, and I agree on that. The game didn't ask for more cards. The penalty situation is never a PK and sending the referee for this would be hilarious. First you create a big expectation in the stadium and secondly the VAR would have made himself ridiculous. OFR is only when the decision was wrong or when the referee has missed the incident which is in the grey are (more to PK). The arm was tight to the body and in natural position. Good teamwork between the referee and the VAR. Monzul for the final.
ReplyDeleteMonzul handled the last World Cup final four years ago. I think the maximum she could (have) reach(ed) this year is a semi-final.

Monzul and the team was very good, also the VAR. And the assistants of Monzul, 100%!!
ReplyDeleteJust to add something, former international referee Joel Quiniou said : "Let’s say that, with the new rule about handballs, the Law is clear concerning players with their arms far from the body. If a player enlarges the surface of his body and impedes the ball, this is a handball offence, and therefore a penalty. I think the VAR considered that the arm was not far enough from the body. But of in doubt, the referee should have gone to see the screen to realize the accuracy of the situation..."
ReplyDeleteMore reliable than L’équipe ;)
WCreferee, communication means not only writing, but means also listening. Perhaps you forgot the listening. Or just try your best to understand the topics and considerations. If you are a referee you would understand. If you are not, then we won't blame you for not understanding. At least your name doesn't fit then to your knowledge ;-) Amen.
ReplyDeleteNo problem, I really like discussing on this blog ;))
DeleteI listen everything you say, and I am just debating. Sorry if you think I’m not listening.
I’m a referee, not at a very high level, but at a level in which you whistle many handballs, because that’s what modern football expects IMO.
Quiniou’s quote proves that I’m not 100% wrong, even if I repeat that this was not a penalty, but considering several situations in this WC, it could have been.
That’s all !! ;))
20': AR1 raised the flag (offside was correct), it was a rare case in which AR didn't wait for the end of the action. However, Umpierrez waited for the end of attacking action before stopping the game. Very good management, it is from these details you can understand a referee is focused.
ReplyDeleteFussy refereeing.. she doesn't feel the game. Many soft calls where players don't even want or expect a whistle.
ReplyDeleteShe's been consistent in that throughout the tournament. But it comes across as not letting the game flow and for me is far too low a foul threshold.
DeleteVery strange management in the second half by Umpierrez. She yells at players whenever they (respectfully) ask or say anything to her, rather than staying calm. I don't think a referee earns respect and acceptance by using this tone.
ReplyDeleteI agree, in a calm match with not very aggressive challenges by players I found it a bit strange.
DeleteOne will think that she already knows she has the final already and trying to play everything safe. It makes you a good referee but never s great one. A hear referee should let the game flow
DeleteMy opinion tho
Indeed, very aggressive behavior, this wouldn't be absolutely accepted in UEFA, we can say "South American style" with all the respect, but in my opinion authority must be shown in a different way. Referees must always be calm and composed.
DeleteIMO all referees must be as calm as Cakir. He is a great example, not yelling at all. Brych also yelled a lot at Nations League semifinal and it didn't gave gim any confidence or big acceptance. Yelling is a sign of unprofessionalism. Probably another stupid recommendation by FIFA.
DeleteBrych, Turpin, Orsato, referees who are yelling a lot to players. It's not a sign of in professionalism, but a lack of natural authority/personality.
DeleteI think Turpin has made a lot of progress on that point in the last year.
DeleteAgree, but still arrogant and not friendly in contact to players.
DeleteTo be honest, in my opinion Umpierrez did more than just screaming, at a certain point it seemed she was chasing players. I condemn the overall resulting picture of this behavior. We see also some UEFA referees sometimes screaming, true, but I never saw such similar behavior by one of them.
DeleteIt will be interesting to have some clips from second half, I don't remember the exact minutes, but this happened at least twice.
I found one clip on Twitter. This was after a minor foul on the edge of the penalty area, Umpierrez also showed a yellow card a few seconds later to this player.
DeleteLike you said Chefren, it wasn't just screaming, but body language too. Too aggressive behaviour for a referee if you ask me. As the other "Anonymous" said in reaction to my post, this behaviour is a sign of unprofessionalism and maybe even a lack of natural authority.
https://twitter.com/WoSoViewer/status/1144976824277118977?s=19
I can't help but laugh. Mateu Lahoz is a Spanish referee which is in UEFA. He not only yells and berates players. But he takes it a step further and physically engages players. But in his case all I ever read from y'all is, "oh that's just his style and it works for him". And if any of you "lowered" yourselves to watch Pitana yesterday (Colombia v Chile), he used a very similar approach.
Deleteto what Umpierrez used today. Hopefully these similarities continue. And just like Pitana did last year. Umpierrez also opens and closes the World Cup.
DeleteVery, very poor players management by Umpierrez. Almost every free kick lasted minimum 1 à 1,5 minute.
DeleteAnd indeed, very agressive behaviour towards the players and this for minor issues !
You must understand Sheriff that it has nothing to do with "lowering" or whatsoever, but with the fact that most Copa America games are played around 3 AM local time for me. I'd rather sleep then ;)
DeleteI have not seen a lot of Lahoz this year, but you can be right when you say he has a similar style. I must assure you that my comment had nothing to do with any bias/disliking against South-American referees in general.
What struck me the most this afternoon with Umpierrez, however, is that her behaviour was completely unnecessary. The game wasn't aggressive with a lot of hard fouls, as Nathan said, but she did act as if that was the case. I would even say that Umpierrez's behaviour made the players more irritated and agitated. That is not something that any referee desires, right?
I agree that there were not a lot of "hard" fouls. But there was a lot of tactical fouls by the Italians. After which the Italians complained or dissented. Umpierrez IMO, wasn't reacting to the type of fouls but instead to the dissenting of the Italians
DeleteHonestly Umpierrez isn't like that if you had followed her ever since. And if she reacted in such manner(Which I have no problem with) you would no it's the way and pattern the game went. Our own situation of "the game did not warrant such behaviour" might not be what she saw.

I appreciate your work and it is good that you bring those points up for a possible discussion. However, according to your analysis, 18 yellow cards should have been issued (if I counted correctly). That is way too much and would be terrible game management.
DeleteTv replay looked to show Swedish player offside in 12" though no call.
ReplyDeleteVery negative article the other day about VAR at https://edition.cnn.com/2019/06/23/football/womens-world-cup-referees-spt-intl/index.html. What would everyone's overall grade be of VAR at this tournament? It seems like there have been many more controversies surrounding it than any other time I can remember. The article says that VAR isn't used in any women's domestic leagues and that World Cup refs had about one month of training. If you think VAR could have been handled better in the tournament, is lack of training the main reason why?
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, the decision to implement VAR at this World Cup was taken in March 2019. Couple the introduction of VAR, the slew of new rule interpretations and you end up with quite a few interesting situations.
DeleteDecember 2018.
DeleteUfff so unlike their male counterparts. These women were unable to work with the system in an actual competition.
DeleteThey did have tournament as state by FIFA referee chief in his media briefing
DeleteYC for high kick into German player's stomach warranted in 44" but no foul called.
ReplyDeleteMissed foul on a German player before Sweden made it 2-1. I feel the attacking play was far ahead for VAR to intervene otherwise I don't know why
ReplyDeleteIMO there was a foul against Germany that was not called by Frappart. Which led to the ball being turned over and ended in Sweden's 2nd goal. However, I must say that conviniently my TV broadcast has not shown a replay of said possible foul. So that doubt remains.
ReplyDeleteReplays were shown during the hydration break. Unfortunately for Frappart, there was a foul that she missed.
DeleteYes a foul in the build up to the goal scored. VAR should intervene here, perhaps the referee missed the incident.
DeleteFrappart most definitely missed it. But how far back prior to the goal is VAR able to go?
DeleteIn this case, he must backed ref to show this contact...

ReplyDeleteInteresting story by Marco Rodríguez.
Correct me if translation is wrong. He stated that he wanted to work at WC 2010 with Maria Isabel Tovar, FIFA Mexican assistant referee, FIFA would have accepted that, but she failed the tests, right?
You've pretty much understood what he said Chefren. She was unable to meet the men's standard on the fitness test as was a French female AR (he didn't mention name). So it's true that male and female fitness standards are different at FIFA level.
DeleteWas Nelly Viennot from France Sheriff ;)
DeleteThank you. However, it seems as the attempt for Nelly Viennot was made for 2006 edition, as wikipedia explains.
Deletehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelly_Viennot
Agree Chefren but this is the only one french female referee involved in this case. :)
DeleteDecent overall performance by Frappart. But one "BIG" blemish though. There is a missed foul which leads to the game winning goal.
ReplyDeleteAgree Sheriff. But normal contact in a normal action. So grey era to whistle this kind of foul and to assess it clearly in direct time. BUT why Spanish VAR didn’t intervene here : that’s a perfect example to help refereeing from technology. So IMO, big problem for VAR here...
DeleteYa VAR to be blamed but must come down first from the referee. She missed it and it's no grey area, it is black and white
DeleteOk. We saw clear replays and i have to correct myself because there was a clear foul. But just before, with normal show, i would say no foul. So VAR has to help french referee here...unexpectable silence by video assistants...
DeleteHumm...interesting debate Chiagozie, so you think Nestor Pitana had to be blamed too when he missed penalty handball in WC final ? Not so easy to tell...
DeleteThose are different situations. It is impossible for Nestor to have seen the handball there and evaluate it as a penalty because of the players obstructing his view and also it's a BALL TO HAND OR HAND TO BALL SITUATION that is a grey area and not what Frappart missed. That was clear as day.

@Sheriff Castrilli what Mateu Lahos does in his games is different from what Umpierrez (at least in my opinion) did yesterday. Mateu has this approach but basically he has a positive attitude in relationship with players, Umpierrez looked very, very angry as she wanted to threaten players. This was never seen before at least from my side, but it seems as also other people agree...
ReplyDeleteI agree Chefren. Sheriff, you want other people to listen to your opinion but sometimes you forget to listen to others. I think you should "lower" yourself and stop thinking that you are the one who know all better than anyone else (just like D. Trump ;)). Indeed, Mateu is not angry and agresive when interacting with players, he is just strict. Personally I really don't like the style Umpierrez used yesterday. I have seen such behavior at lower levels (but not that insane) but for a potential WWC final referee it is unacceptable IMO. She didn't gain acceptance by doing what she did. Appointing her for the final would be a signal for the refereeing world - "this is how you have to referee - threaten players, be aggressive and angry for small fouls, yell". Just my opinion; if you respect mine, I will respect your.

ReplyDeleteCertainly looks like Fifa graphics. It's got Frostbite written all over it. Doesn't look like a pre-match graphic or anything. U4GM FIFA 20 Coins Team wonder if this year Fifa 20 has also a female star on the cover. We know what EA are like with Battlefield V. I'm surprised they've taken so long to add WSL seeing as they added women's international teams in Fifa 16. The last few years it's a lot more mainstream.
