ReplyDeleteTeam of Lehtovaara is a replacement. (Source: FA of Finland)
ReplyDeleteAny predictions for promotion from second to first category as well as from third to second?
ReplyDeleteSecond to First: Glova, Kruashvili, Orel, Strukan, Pandzic
DeleteFirst to Second: Aranovskiy, Gil, Ivanov, Nijhuis
I would be surprised if there are promotions from Second to First in January. Last one was Ekberg Second -> First in 2018 IIRC.
DeleteOut of curiosity: did any country (likely Italy or Spain) have more than 3 referees in the Elite category at the same time?
DeleteYes. Italy (Rocchi, Tagliavento, Orsato and Rizzoli) and Spain (Velasco, Undiano, F.Borbalán and Matéu)
DeleteIn that case, Stieler can be promoted without necessarily replacing another German Elite referee.

ReplyDeleteRefereeing HL of Italy - Nigeria handled by Arturo Brizio Carter, one of the most remarkable WC games concerning the officiating ever (not just Zola's RC!).

An interesting offside situation from Standard Liegi - Benfica, referee Kulbakov:
ReplyDeletehttps://streamja.com/kWvEe
Punishable offside in my opinion (impeding defender's intervention being exactly right in front of him) and referee should have asked assistant referee whether the player ahead of defender close to net was in offside or not.
However, about the position, looks like extremely tight offside, keeper is second last defender and it looks like the attacker is slightly ahead.

More cooperation was needed in this case.
I agree with your words here.

Opinions?
Drop-ball for the team that last touched the Ball. (white) Assistant is not going to be happy with that, maybe he lost the flight of the ball, didn't want to get hit and made a step into the field. Or did he lose his footing?
DeleteBut the LotG requires that the ball "remains on the field of play" to make the touch of the match official relevant. And it seems, the ball left the ball after the touch.
DeleteThrow in. The fact that it didn't change possession on the field and not attack was started it doesn't count when the ball is out as a changed possession. The laws of the game require that it remains on the field of play and changes possession. It's a regular throw in for the other team.
DeleteA mistake by referee. Correct decision is a throw in for the team that did not touch the ball last.
DeleteIG Schiedsrichter tweeted today that Stieler will replace Aytekin in the Elite category as of 1 January 2021. I guess the new categories are out and you are preparing the post? :)
ReplyDeleteI guess, they have taken Referee1's comment from yesterday as source...
DeleteIG Schiedsrichter usually has correct information from German refereeing. I recall him tweeting some appointments of German refs before they were posted by UEFA, which proved correct.
Deletehttps://twitter.com/IgSchiri/status/1337373260023992326
DeleteIG Schiedsrichter is highly controversial among German refereeing. The main author there has been banned from refereeing for lifetime as he was convicted of having posted wrong, misleading and derogatory information about referees and observers. Still until today he has a good network where he receives information that appears to be sometimes quite delicate. I have heard that he uses DFB logos and picutres illegaly and sometimes called or wrote elite refeees claiming to be an official DFB organ, so he obtained their trust and they provided him with sensitive information. In general I think he is very biased when it comes to assess performances but that is up to his opinion. Towards the end of the season he regularly posts only positive articles about his favorite referees, even in lower leagues, and sometimes falsly claims promotion for his favorites. And due to his large range (10k followers) he therefore puts a lot of pressure on the local RFAs...but that is just my personal observation as I follow him for almost 7-8 years now...

I ask to the german forumists news of Soren Storks please.
DeleteStorks has done 3 BL matches (I expect the next one for this weekend) this season without any controversies, including the somewhat more prominent Frankfurt-Leipzig, where he performed quite well.
DeleteThanks, is still far from the FIFA license ?
DeleteMostly depends on how many places become available in the next years. Brych is clear, but also Aytekin could leave the list earlier as well as Dankert, Dingert or Fritz (especially with the perspective of a FIFA VAR list).
DeleteJablonski (1990) should be ahead of Storks (1988) after a much better last season. Then I would say, Brand (1989) and Storks come next with currently similar chances. And Schlager (1989) is already in his third season, so he also becomes a candidate sooner or later.
Petersen and Schröder (both 1985) are probably getting too old for a FIFA selection.
Thanks Philipp
DeleteReferees are beginning to punish goalkeeper more often now adays as they are oftenly so protected... Another penalty giving in Real Valladolid vs Osasuna, just like the on Benoit Bastien whistled yesterday but this one and of quite clearer than yesterday's
ReplyDeleteInteresting. This was not a punch but rather a collision, but important part is, that the GK did not get a touch on the ball. I think PK is correct.

Please correct me if I am wrong. In the Borussia Dortmund game, Mark Borsch is standing as the forth Official but isn't that Felix Brych regular AR or am I missing something. Do AR work as Fourth official
DeleteYou are right. Mark Borsch is Brych's regular AR.
DeleteIn Germany, it's common to see ARs as 4th Officials and AVARs.
And the replacement referee would be AR2 Timo Gerach, who referees in 2. Bundesliga.
DeleteThanks guys.. curious question, has there been a case where an AR serving as Fourth official handled a game as a result of injury or something else to the center referee in the Bundesliga
DeleteNo, because one of the ARs will always be a 2.Bundesliga referee, if the 4O is a specialised AR. In case of an injury, this 2.Bundesliga referee takes over as center referee and the 4O becomes AR, as he would do, if the AR gets injured.
DeleteOh, thanks, it's quite clear now, but I am really surprised that Referees in 2.Bundesliga also serve as Assistant Refereess, their weekly training and all other individualistic events for both Roles
DeleteBut there are several advantages:
Delete- More flexibility in appointments
- Referees already get a feeling for the higher league (and IMO more than only as 4th, because you are more involved in e.g. foul detection)
- it could improve teamwork, if the referee is more aware of the challenges for an AR, because he does that job himself
- referees, who don't manage the last step to 1.Bundesliga still have the chance to become specialized AR (happens regularly) - and then already have some experience, i.e. could become FIFA AR faster.
The physical training during the week is adapted to the role, you have on the weekend (Ref, AR, 4O or VAR) as far as I know.
I don't think, that those referees take part in specific AR courses, but I am not sure on that.
It's also only 10 referees, who do both roles. The number has reduced (from ~18) in recent years, because DFB wants more specialiced ARs.
So great to read. Thanks alot

DeleteThe Concacaf Referee Committee has announced the referees and assistant referees that have been selected for the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League (SCCL) Final Rounds (The tournament was delayed due to Covid-19). The final seven matches of the tournament will be played December 15-22, at Orlando’s Exploria Stadium.

All Match Officials have been following a high-frequency Covid-19 testing regime prior to arriving in Orlando, Florida.
I'd say that the pre-tournament favorites to handle to Final would be. Mario Escobar (GUA), Said Martinez (HON), or Ivan Barton (SLV). But we'll see how things play out.

Shukralla disallowed the goal after OFR. What's your opinion?
https://twitter.com/brentonspeed/status/1338087945492856833?s=21
True that was a little contact but clear kick on foot’s opponent so supportable call IMO !
DeleteAlthough they seemed to focus on the foot contact, for me it's more the push which makes the foul here. Supportable decision IMO.
DeleteIMO absolutely supportable.
DeleteWatching the match in real-time, I didn't perceive any type of foul. What added to this perception was the fact that no Ulsan player protested or complained to the referee. So I was actually surprised by the VAR intervention. However, upon seeing the images. There was indeed a foul. And I agree with Phllipp, not only the contact with the ankle but also the push.
DeleteShortly after this incident. VAR was once again used to validate an ULSAN goal which had been incorrectly disallowed for an offside. No OFR was used, VAR simply confirmed the validity of the goal via comms
DeleteIs Handball or NOT? (2:53 Min)
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/vob8pn
Never handball..
DeleteBased on the current LotG, this handling is punishable. Not deliberate, but happens in the immediate build-up of the goal. Any handball - deliberate or not - in the build-up of a goal is punishable, this for almost now two years. Correct intervention by VAR, an on-field was not needed here as such scenes are seen as 'black-or-white' decisions.
DeleteIMO clear and mandatory, no matter if it is deliberate or not, as it is in the direct build-up phase.
DeletePunishment for nondeliberate movement of the arm in the normal position is against the spirit of football.
DeleteHandling has become one of if the most controversial interpretations with the new wording that is being used. It doesn't help that the application of the law seems to vary from continent to continent and from league to league.
