  1. Debut for Bjorn Kuipers?

  2. Debut for Bjorn Kuipers as committee member, he will observe Obrenovic.
Important game for Fesnic in London as well with Dallas.
Debut for a referee from Kosovo in a UEFA group stage, one could have expected more appointments like this for other small federations, but this was the only choice by committee.

  3. Important match for Farrugia, may be the most important in his international career.

  4. It’s nice to see some new names. Saggi, Bogar and especially Nuza with the first match in UEFA group stage.
Also nice to see Vad again.
The Slovenian Obrenovic with his third game.

  5. Very unexpected appointment for Pajač. He is currently not in the top 4 in Croatia. I understand that maybe Croatians should have some game (also because of Bebek absence), but I would definitely expect Strukan or Zebec then.

And interesting to see Kuipers "appointed" in UCL :)

  6. Great game for Fesnic with Dallas observing. Possible promotion to Cat 1?

  7. Also important match for Obrenovic in front of Comitte member...

    1. Yes I agree. For sure he will be promoted soon. For everybody who knows a little bit about UEFA refereeing and the politics behind this should be clear.
To realize that you just have to remember the treatment from my compatriot Cüneyt Çakir after his bad game Slovenia-Austria. I don‘t like this political influence.

  8. This weekend (League):
    Ajax - AZ: Nijhuis
    Groningen - Feyenoord: Makkelie

    Next midweek (Cup):
    Twente - Feyenoord: Gözübüyük

It was generally assumed that Makkelie would be the referee for the Dutch Classic of next weekend, but he has been appointed for Feyenoord now. Huge surprise for me, options left are Blom, Van Boekel and Higler.

Personally, I think KNVB has taken a gamble here that the game will be played behind closed doors. With fans, this will be the hottest clash in the Netherlands since a direct title decider in 2011, and I couldn't see anyone but Makkelie get this game.

    1. It Will probably go to Higler now and that would be a gigantic mistake

    2. Higler is the expected choice for Feyenoord - Ajax. I like him as a referee, I like his foul detection and has personality. However, his match control does need to improve.

Higler is appointed in the last month with the same assistants; Zeinstra (Kuipers AR2) and Diks (Makkelie's former AR1). I hope he will get more games in Europe the next years.

    3. Higler didn't start very well this season, but he was decent in his last few matches. No crucial mistakes. He also looked a bit more relaxed in the empty stadium, while for example Makkelie IMO is on his best in packed stadium. I also liked Lindhout in his last few games. I hope he also gets a top game this season.

100% sure that in a packed stadium (and Berghuis returning to the Kuip), it would be Makkelie in charge of this game.

I think Higler can do a good job. It's never good a sign when all the top games are whistled by either Makkelie or Gözübüyük. KNVB has to think about developing the other internationals as well.

  9. 48 game 0 Turkish Ref.
Are Turkish referees really that bad?

  10. Giorgi Kruashvili also has crucial game that can decide who goes through.

  11. Tottenham vs Rennes off due to Covid 19 outbreak in the Tottenham squad

    1. And Vitesse-Mura goes ahead buth outcome of this match has big influence on Spurs match. Unbelievable

    2. I must say unfair. Vitesse - Mura should have the same treatment of Tottenham - Rennes.

    3. Uefa cannot decide to postpone the Tottenham vs Rennes match without a very clear and valid argumentation! According to Dutch newspaper Telegraaf Leicester City plays their game against Napoli as planned with 7 players out due to Covid-19.
Apart from that, Slovan Bratislava, Qarabag and FC Pristina were all sanctioned with a regulatory 0-3 defeat after not being able to play due to Covid-19.
Until this moment no explanation whatsoever was released by Uefa.

    4. The problem is that we are talking about a very delicate topic, health authorities are more important than UEFA and they can force a decision. Then, the team should prove that and it is very hard. So we can only say in my opinion in this case, if UEFA accepts that a game is postponed, at least they should postpone the other one as well...

    5. If it were that simple (health authorities deciding that the game may not be played), then Uefa could have explained this course of affairs immediately IMO. This whole situation just feels weird to me…

  12. Goal should probably have been allowed for Qarabag after less than 2 minutes vs Basel. On the angle we have it looks like the ball passed the line. AA1 had bad visibility due to the players in between.

Qarabag coach shows his dissent to FO I must say in a very polite way.

After the Malta vs Slovakia game, we said that Jovic's level was ineligible. I am not at all surprised by this error.
They may share the same fate with Ivan Bebek.

    4. 1) Yeah, in the end we have a terrible mistake that shouldnt happen to anyone, but the situation really looks very unfortunate. AR1 cant see well because several players were inside! the goal, and at the same time a gk makes a move so it could look as he made a save. And from Jovic perspective, he should see this because he had a clear view, but again not easy to assess the depth in the slightest moment.

      2)@KeyNote
Ineligible? Did you see any other game before Malta-Slovakia, or you judge by two performances? I have an opinion about Jovic, but without explaining it in details, he is a good referee. Maybe not the elite level (at least for now), but he showed enough quality and consistency to be in cat 1, and in general he doesnt make many crucial mistakes.

  14. Union Berlin - Slavia Praha
Obrenovic missed in 8 minute a clear penalty for Praha (for a handball)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I must say, not such a good performance by Glova in Arnhem. In the last minutes, he missed a clear yellow card to Mura (92nd minute) and the injury took a lot of time. Vitesse still needed to score. After that, Mura got a free kick, a player of Mura talked a bit, got a yellow card and Glova ended the match, without adding some more time. However, the injury and the yellow card took at least 1,5 minute from the 3 minutes...

Also - can someone give Glova a new whistle?

    1. Very clear handball, VAR would have intervened.

  17. weak performance by Swedish crew in GNT vs FLO - 1:0 scored from clear offside and handball penalty missed for FLO at 90'.

also at least two mandatory YCs missed for FLO on 2nd half.

  18. It seems like Tottenham vs Rennes will not be played anymore.

Most probably Rennes will win 3-0 by forfeit.
Bad luck for Horatiu Fesnic. Under Hugh Dallas`s eyes, I think he was about to be promoted in case of a good performance.

    1. Do you really think that a postponed game can change a decision about a promotion? :)

      Delete
    2. No, it shouldn`t, normally. But this autumn he had only a random UECL game and one, pretty important, in UEFA Youth League. This thursday it would have been the big test.
If a promotion was possible, and the decision will not change because the postponed game, will UEFA promote it based on what games? If the promotion was not supposed, then why was Dallas chosen as observer?
