  1. OT:A question for our German friends: Has anyone taken a look at Aytekin's new book? What are the reactions, is there something interesting in there?

    1. I can't comment on Aytekin's book as I haven't read it but tbh it seems to me that we are on the right track here in Germany.

Many people here have repeatedly talked about too little transparency and that we don't really know the referees. Patrick Ittrich (Bundesliga ref) released a book last year which was very well received. He also has his own Podcast Refitcom where he also speeks to other Bundesliga referees and ARs (Stieler, Osmers, Schröder, Thielert). There is also another podcast from schiri.de releasing monthly with Aytekin and Zwayer in the first two episodes.

We've also had several videos by DFB with the refs (Kartenduell on YT) and a documentary about Aytekin including communication between the refs during the match that has over 4 million views on YT.

I think that helps the acceptance of the referees immensely. Many people now finally see what they are really like and what's happening on the pitch.
Also it's very refreshing to see that many commentators and media seem to have improved a lot in terms of the LotG and VAR which helps the general acceptance of decisions.

  3. It is indeed Higler for Feyenoord - Ajax, the Dutch Classic. Van Boekel will be VAR. I'm skeptical, but it's an excellent chance for Higler to prove himself to Dutch audience.

Also, it was revealed by journalists that Higler hasn't been invited to the UEFA Winter course and that indeed Kooij and Van der Eijk will replace Kuipers and Nijhuis.
