  1. The Spanish Men's selection for the Summer Course is represented by the three Elite referees + Juan Martinez Munuera.
So the other Cat. 1 De Burgos is missing, unless called only as VAR, but he would have appeared in CTA Picture.

    1. Germany: all Elite and Category 1 (both Stegemann and Osmers).

    2. Do you happen to have the full list of all the names present at the summer course?

      Delete
  2. A big focus on Minakovic, it seems that again a committee picked few new names to try to give them a chance to skip few steps.

Also, so far 23 matches and 0 Croatian referees. I expect Strukan and Bel (or maybe Jovic who is now back) to participate.

    1. I believe the second Serbian referee has already been identified and he is Miloš Milanović, 29 y.o.

    2. Bel is appointed in Croatian second league this weekend so I do not expect him. Strukan and/or Pajac would be my guess.

  3. Quite good appointment for Kabakov - and also already his third game in this campaign.

So MCI Ake’s goal deemed as error from VAR.

  5. Zwayer replaced by Letexier?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Indeed. Zwayer the most replaced referee, it starts to be very strange if you ask me, definitely too many times...

  7. How is Barjamaj ( ALB) a non Fifa Referee (just checked on Google barely has 10 matches as a referee in Albanian Championship ) more trusted VAR then Jorgji or Xhaja? Third match for him as VAR!
Jorgji as fourth official and Xhaja as AVAR make no sense for me.

    2. In such appointments, the choice of VAR and AVAR seems to be at federation's discretion (when UEFA doesn't ask for a particular VAR and the officials come from the same nation of referees), so it was Albania to make this choice.

      Delete
    3. For sure Uefa asks for particular VARs for each match. Barjamaj and several of the other appointed VARs in this round were at a Uefa VAR seminar in spring.
Elite and category 1 referees have been asked who are the preferred VARs from their countries independent of status as Fifa referees or not. In this way, Uefa acknowledges that the best VARs are not necessarily the same as the best referees on the pitch.

    4. @Chefren VAR is always appointed by Uefa

  9. Zwayer’s replacement could be anything.
I don’t think it has anything to do with Letexier being more trusted. Zwayer was announced 3 days before the game, removed 2 days before the game. Injury, personal issues, or maybe a failed test in Geneva

  10. The penalty area incident in Georgia - Spain, minute 2':
    https://streamable.com/jt2u6d
OK by VAR to stay silent, grey area in my opinion given also the confusion about handballs, especially when player is making a tackle. In this case one can say the arms were still in an consistent position with the rest of the body, but if Siebert had called it, VAR wouldn't have intervened. The check was long because it wasn't easy incident to assess. Then from the ground, defender tried to play ball with head.
Please note also the very particular incident that happens when Spain #20 kicks the ball to penalty area, and Georgian opponent is hit, entering in the path. Would you call a foul for that? Very hard, it can appear as reckless by Spanish player, but absolutely harsh to whistle.

  11. Luxembourg - Iceland, OFR and penalty following a challenge by keeper:
    https://streamable.com/wqlxs2
In my opinion not all VARs would have called this one.

    Second YC for SPA:
    https://streamable.com/nbfs80
In my opinion attacker would have never reached the ball, but a SPA can't be denied and YC seems expected in such a situation.

    1. If the attacker would never reach the ball then why you support an nonsense YC. I'm curious to know at least one element in favor of 2YC

      Delete
    2. You can indeed not see a promising attack there, but the action is kind of unsporting behavior. Probably whistling just the foul would have been better though.

  12. How was Minakovic performance in Azerbaijan?

  13. Potential RC for Stepanenko, but IMO YC is enough

    1. I agree, bad calls, he should have allow the last corner. I've seen the same with other refs

    2. So, you are not discussing the whole management af the game and that all 4 YC give were corectly spot on.

The players trusted him. One possible PK for Handball - corectly assessed as support the body.

Normal game and expected performance by Bulgarian.

  16. Definitely poor appearance by the Bulgarian and it is not important how you assess crucial incidents, the overall handling of the game seems a trouble for him.

    1. Cheferen, I was on the stadium and really can NOT share the same opinion. He was really well accepted by the players and the evidence of that was at the end of the game when both teams and Officials shaked hands with him.

    2. Chefren, as you said, he took correct decisions in crucial situations, which I agree. When every decision is accepted by players and you manage top players well and in a trustful way, handling the game is not a problem IMO

    4. Dear Cheferen,

This time I can NOT agree with you and here I give the minutes with decisions which I rewied of the Bulgarians:

      - 20'50 - Correct delaying whistle in case of possible advantage who failed and then correct First YC in the game for reckless tackle the offenders behavior shows he accept the disciplinary sanction!

-33'50 - Correct YC for N 11 ENG for reckless tackle. Positive body language.

      - 40'13 - very tight Offside situation and very good decision by AR1. From the replays the AR was on perfect position to assess the situation. Replays on 42'28.

      - 41'52 - Perfect position by the Referee to detect the CLEAR YC by N 9 UKR late reckless tackle.

      - 62'07 - Possible PK for Handball - Correct play on as the hand support the body. Very good position by Kabakov to spot on.

      - 84'44 - YC for H. Maguire looks the expected desision by everyone on the field of play even not 100% clear but we can consider as supportable one. Positive strong body language by the Referee.

      - 1-90' - Some situations which Kabakov was too close to the situation but not interfere with play or players but this would not be a problem.

Considering all this situations, I can say imo. expected performance by the Bulgarian Team.

  17. Interesting educational incident in ANDBLR. The substitute BLR GK, Siarhiej Ignatovič delayed the restart when it should be a throw-in in favour of Andorra. According to the LotG, he should've been sent off but Eldorjan Hamiti decided to only caution him.

    1. I have just checked the LoTG and I did not find what you are saying. Sending off in cases you mentioned are defined only for team officials, but for substitution players it says yellow card is correct decision.

      Delete
    2. LoTG, page 105 explains that substitute player is cautioned for the abovementioned offence.

      Delete
    3. This is Yc for a substitute trying to delay the game. Rc is in case of team official delaying restart of opponent team.

    4. So, Euro SoccerRef I believe it is time to excuse about this comment. Sometimes some of the comment are based on nothing and this is not the block to attacked the referees. When they are correct, they deserve to have positive feedback- look the reaction by the Referee, look the body language. He clearly stops the incident to escalate!

    5. Team officials
Where an offence is committed by someone from the technical area (substitute, substituted player, sent-off player or team official) and the offender cannot be identified, the senior team coach present in the technical area will receive the sanction. Pag. 108
      Sending-off
Sending-off offences include (but are not limited to):
      • delaying the restart of play by the opposing team e.g. holding onto the ball, kicking the ball away, obstructing the movement of a player. Pag. 109

      Delete
    6. Cautionable offences
A player is cautioned if guilty of:
      • delaying the restart of play
      • dissent by word or action
      • entering, re-entering or deliberately leaving the field of play without the
      referee’s permission
      • failing to respect the required distance when play is restarted with a
dropped ball, corner kick, free kick or throw-in
      • persistent offences (no specific number or pattern of offences constitutes
      ‘persistent’)
      • unsporting behaviour
      • entering the referee review area (RRA)
      • excessively using the ‘review’ (TV screen) signal
A substitute or substituted player is cautioned if guilty of:
      • delaying the restart of play
      • dissent by word or action
      • entering or re-entering the field of play without the referee’s permission
      • unsporting behaviour
      • entering the referee review area (RRA)
      • excessively using the ‘review’ (TV screen) signal
Where two separate cautionable offences are committed (even in close
proximity), they should result in two cautions, for example if a player enters
the field of play without the required permission and commits a reckless tackle
or stops a promising attack with a foul/handball, etc.

I have no problem to apologize! I was wrong, what has been proven. Although I think everybody on the bench should be equal to the LotG, that's not the case and therefore I'm sorry if my comment harmed anyone!

  18. Kabakov was in full control of the game. He was well accepted by players and correct in the important decisions. 1-2 free kicks for 95 min are not a reason to blame the referee.
    Good performance IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am sorry, but I am not agree. I watched full game and I think that Kabakov was very well accepted by all players and coaches. He tried not to be a man in the middle and I like such approach. All the cards correct and on time, always close in PA. Excepted level in my opinion. He deserved a trust.

  20. Tough game for Letexier already. Missed penalty to Macedonia at 7’ (step on foot)?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think there wasn't a clear step on foot, otherwise a French VAR would have surely intervened.

      Delete
  21. Early penalty appeal by North Macedonia, good decision by Letexier to play on, including clear gestures of the assessment he made. It can turn into a quite challenging game, I don't know how much, maybe not at the level of the previous meetings between the two teams, but I think the crow can contribute to pressure on referee.

  25. Who is referee GAMBIA x CONGO , BURINDI vs. CAMEROUN?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Very good performance by Letexier imo! It was a challenging game on a poor playing surface and the Frenchman was ready, with a very attentive piece of refereeing, focused on keeping control and preventing trouble. He never missed a clear caution before rightly opening the cards on a reckless foul at 68’, and booked a further four players after that. I don’t think 7’ was a penalty, N. Macedonian player had already exaggerated his fall from a prior duel (trying to win a penalty; it was never a foul) and you can’t prove that the stepping contact was anything deliberate or more than negligible. Interesting incident though. I didn’t see a foul in the Italy goal, either.

Differently refereed, this game could have been a big mess indeed; well done François Letexier.

Imagine if the player on the left in the first capture, instead of passing, would have shot into the box and Vincic would have had to give a decisive penalty in 90+4 for handball while he was on the ground :))
The Slovenian referee had the bad luck of slipping in what could have been a critical moment but fortunately for him nothing big happened here.

Joking aside, a very good perfromance by Vincic in a game not difficult judging by the KMI but: 1) very demanding phisycally because of the numerous counter attacks, many of them with long passes and 2) a game that required full concentration for the whole time, with fairly numereous contacts and quick pace.
He had the full control of the game the whole time being respected by players.

Other observations: The atmosphere was pretty hot, almost full stadium with 50K people. Also, I noticed an almost unusual fair-play from both teams players, especially consider the big steak of this game. Kudos to them. There were no dissents, majour protests or mobbing. Vincic indeed showed one YC for ROU#3 because the player requested a YC for an opponent. There was absolutely not aggresivity in the request but the instructions for referees are clear in these cases.

  28. Two incidents from Bosnia and Herzegovina - Liechtenstein:

    65' Possible RC for VC
    https://streamable.com/eitc16
I think impossible to say it was deliberate action, but it can't be excluded. YC is OK, VAR wouldn't have questioned on a RC, if given by referee

74' Missed the identity of the player after a foul
    https://streamable.com/ripfmg
Referee was helped by either fourth official or assistant referee 1, he was looking in that direction.

    1. Omg the mobbing in the first scene… a red card is in order for the Bosnian who bodychecked him! Not a good impression (at all) from these clips.

      Delete
    2. i dont think that 74' counts as mistaken identity, right? the card has not been issued to a wrong player, just a bit confusion before issuing it to the correct player...

      Delete
    3. YC expected in the bodycheck situation. RC would have been too harsh. No swing in the arm and not too much force overall.

In regards to the ‘mistaken identity’ case, it appears that the ref initially moves to caution the correct player (#6), but then briefly changes his mind and almost cautions the wrong player. I suspect he was receiving conflicting inputs from his team, perhaps the assistant had pinpointed the wrong player and the 4th official corrected him (or vice versa). Does not count as mistaken identity, but naturally, the proces was terrible.

      Delete
    4. using the word terrible in this context is a bit harsh...it would have been terrible if he had cautioned the wrong player ;-) the process was not optimal...

      Delete
    5. Yep,mobbing in Bosnia match is not acceptable,1 or even 2 yellows missed,to#10 Pjanic and #8Krunic.
Key with Krunic is that he already had YC,but still,he needed to be puuished for making strong contact with ref.

      Weak from Karabaev.

      Delete
    6. When I watch how Karabaev handle that, for me it was typical AFC referee
