    1. Big matches at home and correct major decisions with VVD dogso etc so let’s hope he brings this into Uefa. Could he be the next cat 1 England ?

      Delete
    2. I'd say Brooks, Madley and Jones are the ones to keep an eye on

      Delete
    3. Brooks it’s okay, Madley little bit too old, Jones no way, IMO Gillett slightly better :) but all mentioned names not good enough to reach elite level at the moment (no indication, strong performance to replace Taylor position after retire, hopefully Taylor will continue like Kuipers)

    4. Big game as well. And only just got his badge

      Delete
    5. How about Darren England?

      Delete
    6. @Neil I don't think he receives big enough fixtures in the PL yet. Hopefully this changes because I think he's a good referee and is 37 years old so still time for him to have a good international career too.

  3. It seems clear that Erik Lambrechts is now the new number 1 for UEFA instead of Lawrence Visser.

    1. Yes I think that for committee something went wrong with Visser, definitely too many OFRs in his games...

      Delete
    2. I check official UEFA site, appointement is change, Lawrence Visser take the game

      Delete
    3. Yes, from uefa.com, Lambrechts and his assistants were replaced.

    4. Nevertheless, UEFA's first choice appeared to be Lambrechts. I am following Visser closely and it is very clear : he does not get any more or less important game from UEFA anymore. Last year and in 2021, he had both 1 UCL match in first round (not important games of course), but my strong guess is that he will not even have one UCL game in the group phase of UCL this autumn. He was prepared to be the final upcoming Belgian top referee after a gap of more than 10 years now since De Bleeckere, but I fear. In his advantage is stil his relative young age (born December 1989). Wait and see if he gets another chance from Rosetti...

  4. Regarding (possible) international assignments: Makkelie with a Sunday game, Gözübüyük has a second division game on Friday - we can expect him in UCL next week

    1. Is Gozubuyuk considered #1 by UEFA now?

      Delete
    2. Ahahaha based on what???

      Delete
    3. No, Makkelie definitely number 1 still, and no indication of an upcoming change. Remember that referees for MD1 and MD2 are usually appointed together, so Makkelie will most likely appear on MD2 (if that's not the case, questions can be raised)

    4. Exactly Anonymous 19:55, I t’s quite funny that some readers often tend to make strong conclusions based on only one set of appointments instead of considering a period of about 4-6 months.

      Delete
    5. Makkelie had a one-sided Play-off game in Europa League, which is not regular for him. Meanwhile, Massa and Sanchez were shining in the UCL play-off 😉

      Delete
    6. And this, Anonymous 20:28, is exactly what I mean: drawing conclusions from 1 set of appointments, which by the way were already made before the 1st legs were played. And beforehand a Serbian-Greek encounter can easily be considered high-risk.
If, from these appointments you’re point is that Sánchez Martínez and Massa are rated higher than Makkelie I can only laugh…

      Delete
    7. Don’t forget we haven’t seen Makkelie in a UCL game since March.

      Delete
    8. Gozubuyuk might have a 2nd league game because he will have the Classico on 24 September.

For a UCL game, it would be possible to see him on Saturday as well.

  5. Armenia - Croatia factual review in 15' to give a goal wrongly disallowed by AR1 for offside.

  6. Turpin with the "new approach", only a few fouls so far but already yellow cards issued.
Now troubles with the game, a drone on the stadium with Armenian flag.

  7. What about chances of Dabanović to go to Elite?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Withous age limits anymore, this shouldn't be an argument, but I also think that the referee from Montenegro didn't show the required skills to join Elite. I think the important observation waiting for him in this Qualifier game, is just to understand which kind of games he can handle on European competitions group stage. We know that Category 1 can get both very good games in CL but also appearing only in EL.. we will see.

  8. Russian referees are appointed to Women's Nation League. First appointment in 1.5 years

    1. Discussed here:

But... easy to do that in a minor competition of Women's football.
I think that very important observations must be made on this topic.
The situation can't go on in this way.

  10. Correct penalty and YC by Ocenas in Riga for an arm to the head by Latvian player

    ReplyDelete

    1. https://streamin.me/v/b6b6f005
An illegal use of arm that you can't deny, but this penalty would be still described as soft by some people, I think...

      Delete
    2. And now in stoppage time in 1st half LVA should've had penalty.

Hand/elbow to the face, very clear imo.

      Delete
    3. @chefren Maybe called soft by some pundits, not referees, who come with arguments like ”what else could he do” and ”he had his eyes on the ball” etc, arguments with very little substance in regards to LOTG. If you go in with your arm this high up, you take a massive risk

      @m I agree, it should've been a penalty

      Delete
    4. And now big RC appeal, even VAR check by ref,but he stayed with his YC decision.

      Delete
    5. My goodness…. The Latvian only initiated his high and forceful tackle after the ball passed him. No possibility whatsoever to play the ball, a clear VC for me and a RC had to be issued!!

      Delete
    6. IMO inconsistent YC decision by Ocenas. That was a deliberate kick on knee.

      Delete
    7. Very clear RC

      Delete
    8. Correct intervention by Di Paolo, Ocenas should've changed his decision after OFR. I doubt UEFA will be very happy…

      Delete
    9. Missed penalty,missed RC.
      Big mistakes.

      Delete
    10. Upholding the YC even after OFR should count as a double mistake. Shocking decision, clear tackle as an attack with high force on the opponent's knee.

      Delete
    11. And in 84’ no 2nd YC issued to LAT #11 after a SPA-like trip which could have easily led to a sending off.

      Delete
    12. Unbelievable decision not to award a red card to Latvia player. Correct to go to screen, referee must think he is the best not listening to the very experienced VAR

      Delete
    13. It goes to show the wrong referees are on the talent and mentor programme. This referee will have 7.2 and still get a group stage match in club matches because he is on this program

      Delete
    14. He now caution many players because he has no control.

      Delete
    15. @Anonymous at 22:39

I doubt that the referee will get 7.2. At least with this observer....

      Delete
    16. How Latvia didn't finish with 9 men is beyond me ,should have at least a straight red for an extremely poor challenge and 2 others walked the tightrope after been yellowed .

      Delete
    17. What's funny is that maybe some refs think like Clattemburg,I wont show RC so that I don't finish on the headlines.
But this is even worse, you are on headlines cause you made some crucial mistakes and ,that's a fact.

      Delete
    18. @anonymous at 22:43 I think UEFA will watch this match closely even with spotter. If the observer does not do his job properly then you could call it “fixing”

      Delete
    19. It is not his fault. The blame lies with Rossetti completely disastrous management.
Management based on friendship and not performance.

      Delete
    20. @ anonymous 22:43

Why do you say that? what do you mean with this observer you doubt.? This guy had a very good career as a referee. Do you know him personally?

      Delete
  11. It's a pity, because IMO this Euro qualifier window was going so well until now in terms of referee performances. UEFA should be absolutely furious that a Talent & Mentored referee commits such a howler even after being given a second chance by VAR.

    ReplyDelete

    1. The issue appears with referee’s ego. He thinks he his bigger and better than his colleagues to not listen to them

      Delete
  12. Just seen the RC not given. Incredible error. Referee seems to approach it as a SFP and issues a YC because there isn't contact with the studs? Clear VC, terrible mistake

    ReplyDelete
  13. https://streamable.com/y33ck3
Terrible decision, the development of Slovakian referee should be over right now.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah indeed very bad to not show the RC after he went to the monitor. But... don't kill him for one mistake, he is young and knowing him by close he is a very good guy and always open to admit when he is wrong, I'm sure he will learn from his mistake. As someone mentioned focusing to much to the point of contact and watching in monitor not in normal speed leading in a crucial mistake to not see it as a VC

      Delete
    2. It was many mistakes in one match, not one. Unacceptable for international referees

      Delete
    3. I didn't watch the match, just was sharing an opinion about the clip Chefren posted

      Delete
    4. This is clearly 'NOT protecting the players'. Terrible foul !

      Delete
    5. Right, just one incident is not enough to kill a referee, but this is absolutely unacceptable, for the safety of the player involved. You have all the tools to take a correct decision, you can make a mistake on the pitch, nobody will blame you, but in front of a monitor, and looking at the severity of the offense, what should be our opinion? I think that he missed the reality and he just wanted to defend the original decision.
You can justify the player thinking that he was late and so SFP and not VC (but I think mostly VC), but deeming it as reckless is definitely shocking. There are mistakes and mistakes, I think the argument of not being harsh in criticism against the referee is mostly valid for almost all incidents, but not for this one.

      Delete
    6. @Chefren maybe you misunderstood me, i know you are always in favor of referees when there are even some minor elements to protect them. And once again I'm totally agree with every word about the incident. I was just strongly disagree with your quote
" the development of Slovakian referee should be over right now" .
He his very young 32 -33 and for one mistake, described as you want , terrible, wrong, disaster, unacceptable still is not right to "kill" him for the future. Maybe I'm wrong i don't know 😕

      Delete
    7. I think this kind of mistake should only belong to referees with few experience, surely not to a FIFA referee, and that's the problem. At this level you expect obvious decisions when things are clear, I will always defend a referee making a mistake, but when in front of monitor and with such a clear action, it's simply impossible for an international referee, because either he didn't want to change idea to avoid the correction or, we must think, he is missing in basic knowledge for being a FIFA referee.
We will see which games he will get as Talents and Mentors member, time will tell us.

  14. Despite the fact that I am Slovak, I agree with you. Perhaps that is also why UEFA does not recognize Slovak VAR.

  15. Could I ask, who are important referee observer for women football in UEFA beside Damkova?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Perhaps Jenny Palmqvist (SWE), she is in the referee development panel amongst Vassaras, Fandel, Rocchi, etc.

      Delete
    2. Also (IMO) Hilda McDermott, Katarzyna Wierzbowska, María Luisa Villa Gutiérrez, Teodora Albon, Gyöngyi Gaál, Eléni Kyríou, and surely Bibiana Steinhaus-Webb or Kirsi Heikkinen among new names.
