No surprise (!) to see the Spanish refs in Group F, given the restrictions for Spanish officials (5 groups with Spanish teams), and given the limited options in group F as well. I guess, they were the first names appointed on paper.
ReplyDeleteAn early appearance in Group F allows them to work again in this group in later stages.
Several new VARs on this level: Bebek, Kajtazovic, Popa and di Paolo all make their CL debut.
ReplyDeleteAlso interesting, that Hernandez continues as VAR in spite of his Elite promotion.
Relatively normal referee appointments: First group referees, where they could be expected and established names in the two biggest games.
Also interesting to see that in many matches, VAR and AVAR come from different countries. Maybe the AVARs will have another match as VAR later, but this approach seems a bit different from what we could see in the last season.
DeleteI guess the reason for the rather "weird" VAR teams is that UEFA is trying to minimize people working in Nyon, right? I presume we will see the same VAR teams in tomorrows appointment just with the VAR and AVAR switched.
ReplyDeleteThat's the way it worked before, yes
DeleteVAR will always work from Nyon? No one on the station?
DeleteStadium
DeleteImmediate PUNISHMENT lenient referee Sanchez in MILAN NEWSCASTLE. Not Uefa STRICT?
ReplyDeleteGood to see new VARs being trusted instead of Van Boekels and Dankerts in every game
ReplyDeleteSome of the AVAR’s on Tuesday are main VAR on Wednesday. Last season they switched. A VMO usually does not work two days in a row as main VAR in case of crucial mistakes. So we can already make some educated guesses:
ReplyDelete-Irrati: works with Orsato or maybe foreign refs (Kovacs or Meler)
-Van Boekel / Dieperink: I’d guess Gozubuyuk based on his domestic appointment. Or maybe Nyberg.
-Attwell with Oliver or Taylor
-Dankert / Fritz with a German referee, Kovacs or Nyberg
Interesting that Sanchez and Massa get a very quick appointment after their heavily criticized play-off games. And these appointment can’t be made earlier ofc.
ReplyDeleteI reckon, this would be different if they were referees from smaller nations. Dear UEFA… Is that fair?
It is not and the blog administrators know it too but keep silent because their Italians are involved too. However the Sanchez treatment is totally ludacrous. Imo sanchez if appointed at all should have been at Conference league at max. However there seems to be no punishment for him after his abysmal game in Eindhoven. Really unfair
DeleteIt shows how useful it can be to have a countryman in the committee. Take Daniel Siebert as an example, he’s from a Top5 league as well, however we know his treatment after one weaker game. He’ll get a bunch of Europa League assignments. Referees are not stupid; they notice the different treatment as well. Some of them may even read this blog.
DeleteFor Sanchez Martinez IMO his fortune save him, indeed he was very poor in Eindhoven, but the appointment in Tirana made before the game in Eindhoven and in Tirana he showed very good performance, very opposite with his game in Eindhoven, then I think he’s not really “deserve” to get the punishment.
DeleteQuite regular assignments, the two Category 1 are in the games you could have expected: maybe more in Manchester than Barcelona, I consider Pinheiro game easier, at least on paper.
ReplyDeleteVinčić in Rome, this game could be really hot if you ask me. Lazio attitude against referees (yesterday another chapter in Juventus - Lazio) and Atlético Madrid on the other side, we all know how they play. The Elite from Slovenia will hopefully adapt his style.
Massa in a tie in which you could have expected an Elite, but less than other games: an experienced Category 1 wouldn't have been a real surprise, I think, in case. Both teams can be on a similar level, having to ffight for qualification, different from Barcelona - Antwerp (again, at least on paper). Still, something is missing at moment to Massa for making a small step inside the Elite Category in terms of consideration, I would say "Middle Elite", so far.
Peljto confirms the good form as new Elite, with a regular appearance, Spanish officials in group F as you said also because of the management. Sanchez Martinez getting some trust by committee, and I think the officiating of CL Play Off now belongs to the past.
Finally, the debut for Jorgji: surely a big moment for Albanian refereeing, let's see how he will perform under the eyes of Rosetti.
About VAR assignments : more and more we have the confirmation that there is an (unwritten) Elite category, with big names for respective countries, used for the games in the major competition for European clubs.
I think that we have almost all games covered from Nyon (the particular assignments with big names from different countries) and a couple of VAR crews that will go to stadium.
For what I can point out it could be that Hamburg and Barcelona games are with VARs at venues (both VAR and AVAR from same nation of the crew, indeed) while the others from Nyon, with a small doubt about Peljto game (Bebek and Ulusoy). A further confirmation about that could be that Barcelona will play at a different stadium while Shakhtar on neutral venue (so maybe not expected to link Nyon with such venues). We will know more tomorrow and/or on Monday, because some of them can get Europa League and Conference League as well.
And the very last remark about Hernandez Hernandez, the fact that he continues as VAR even after Elite prmotion, could be just a small signal that the promotion was made just because they had to add new Elite following the retirements, in case of more "developed" promotion, he could have decided to dedicate himself to pitch performances. But it seems his status will not change so much... I hope it is clear what I'm trying to say, maybe just a nuance, but it can be read in this way.
Thanks for your analysis!
DeleteIs it a practice that a ref, promoted to Elite, state that he don't want to be the VAR and want to focus being the field?
To clarify, it is not a real practice, it was just my reasoning. I think the reality would suggest that being an Elite referee would mean reaching big achievements on the field and not working at monitor. And in my opinion the paramount example we can mention is Makkelie, pioneer of VAR. When he noticed that he was reaching the top he was not appointed like before in that role (of course we talk about international assignments), to achieve the best possible as referee.
DeleteYou see that almost all experienced UEFA VARs are (were) Category 2 or referees without a real progress.
Dankert, Irrati, Millot are some examples...
On the other hand, we don't see very often big Elite names in UEFA working as VAR in international games.
Spanish situation can be different because indeed you have a major number of Elite referees, not like other countries, so in this context there could be a "secondary" Elite, and Hernandez Hernandez maybe belongs to this one.
All of that for now, then we must see how the career of the Spanish will develop.
Chefren and others maybe I'm wrong because sometimes I have missed some appointments. Does any of you remember a good and important game of Jorgji? What is the point to keep a referee all the time in shadow and then to appoint him directly to the most important stage in Europe, without proving himself that he is ready and belong to this stage! more and more the ref com works in mysterious way with some referees :/
Deleteanyway nothing against Jorgji and good luck to him
@Chefren in comment above you said that Lazio has behaviour problems that were shown yesterday in match vs Juve.
DeleteWhat do you think about Maresca's performance in that match?
IMO he had great line in terms of fouls and bookings, but kind of lost himself in last 10 minutes..
Interesting to see what you think..
I didn't watch the game, so I can't answer this time, I only read about Lazio complaints because before first goal ball looked to be out (but no evidence) and VAR supported assistant referee decision. In addition, they wanted a possible foul in Immobile, I think it wasn't the case.
Delete@anonymous 14:37 it seems more like a "hater "comment to me. Maybe not very important appointments for him in the past but have you seen or read any mistakes from Jorgji in his matches? The answer is simple. NO. That's why he gets an UCL now because of his consistency
DeleteThe biggest games for Jorgji this year were the ECL R16 match in Florence and the EL PO in Bruxelles. Apparently those were enough for UEFA.
DeleteI would also prefer, if CL debutants get a EL KO game first and have in general more experience on the UEFA stage - but it seems a trend in recent times, that the CL debut comes quite early in the development for some referees and other achievements follow later.
(And yes, I know, that Jorgji is around for quite some time, e.g. U19 EURO 2014(!), but he has disappeared for several years, so his experience is mostly early round or youth qualifiers)
Can I ask who is Catalin Popa? Is he VAR specialist or what because it’s interesting that Hategan that I believe more experienced than him only act as AVAR.
ReplyDeleteI think on paper Nejc Kajtazovic would be busy, both Vincic and Kajtazovic can’t lost their focus because simply when they lost their focus it would be cost they would ruin the game.
ReplyDeleteAnd for Bebek congratulations again for keep gaining the trust from the refcom. I think he will be in Germany next year with Peljto’s team.
No English referee on Tuesday games 😏 expect to see Michael Oliver on Wednesday games👋
ReplyDeleteYeah because, he was in the middle yesterday early kick off match between Liverpool/wolves and with his full team
ReplyDeleteAm expecting him in Portugal or Spain

ReplyDeleteVideo Assistant Referee: Aleandro Di Paolo (ITA)
ReplyDeleteMentor for VAR: Massimiliano Irrati (ITA)
;)
Sanchez Martinez gets match that could also be really ugly, wouldnt be surprised if we see lot of cards and dirty moments.
ReplyDeleteBoth teams have hot headed players, use dark arts sometimes and every match in this group is like elimination game.
OT:
ReplyDeleteIn Italy looks like nothing has changed in terms of punishing players behaviour and doing something with that.
Righ now watching Frosinone-Sassuolo,hosts have penalty claims ref Prontera does not whistle and imediate mobbing and players suround ref in a second, showing VAR sign and demanding penalty.
Of course,he does nothing, unlike english refs that are punishing that type of behaviour.
David Coote is not a good referee at all
ReplyDeleteHe should have cautioned Fernandez for dissent but his performance was fine today?
DeletePredictions for tomorrow:
ReplyDeleteRMA-UB: Nyberg
GLTSY-COP: Gozubuyuk
BRAGA-NAP: Oliver
BAY-MU: Orsato
BEN-SAL: Taylor
RSO-INT: Turpin
SEV-LENS: Siebert
ARS-PSV: Zwayer
Prediction: Gozubuyuk won't handle GLTSY.
DeleteYes he might have a Turkish passport himself ;-)
DeleteAnd it is unlikely to see both English on the same day, unless one of them works with a non-English VAR. Atwell is the only trusted English VAR atm.
From serie A game, Monza - Lecce: RC for SFP confirmed after OFR.
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/w1qit6
I think that the original decision of referee can't be assessed as clearly wrong, also because player entered the challenge with a force that we can describe as excessive, taking a risk.
Watched at replay maybe you can say more YC than RC, but I think that RC should have been supported and so I also believe Marinelli was not wrong in refusing the correction. He is one of the very few referees that nowadays can do that in serie A (not changing idea after OFR) due to his strong character.
VAR was Marco Serra, new in the role from this season, with Irrati working as AVAR (indeed like a tutor for him).
Do not understand this OFR to be honest. RC ist fully supportable as intensity was high and hitting point at the ankle area. Also, the referee was very quick, had a clear view. Good that the referee stuck to his initial decision.
DeleteI missed Antonio Mateu Lahoz already when I looked Sanchez Martinez in Milan, in one side it’s easy to find the reason to appoint him, but in the other side I don’t think he deserve it, I mean his level still too low comparing to IINM DCG/Lahoz when they all at the same age.
ReplyDeleteDel Cerro????? He barely started his international career at the age Sanchez Martinez currently has
DeleteBut at the end we know his performance totally different with Sanchez Martinez, before or after he became FIFA referee in the middle.
DeleteNot top spanish Referees in spain since Mateu Lahoz times… Gil Manzano and Sanchez Martinez not bad, but, Hernandez Hernández? Crazy…

ReplyDeleteI’m speechless with the tackle, the referee was spot on, very clear view and of course very clear RC.
OT: Could I ask, I don’t know about how another FA “punish” their referees, but interesting to see Salisbury is back on VAR duty after 5 weeks absent with Anthony Taylor in Man City-Nottingham, what do you think?
ReplyDeleteAlexandre Boucaut (former belgian Fifa referee and new tv consultant) confirme that Erik Lambrechts is the new number 1 for Uefa instead Lawrence Visser : he was planed for Iceland - Bosnia and for champions league MD1 but he's injured.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure if he wasn't injured, he would have been in Switzerland today for Young-Boys-Leipzig being watched by RR
DeleteFIFA trying to solve AFC troubles with refereeing...

Not even a warning for foul on Hernandez?
ReplyDeleteMassive mixup between Martinez and his AR1. Clear defensive throw, AR1 gives and then for some reason half heartedly changes his mind. Strange thing is Martinez actually starts walking up the pitch as if it is defensive throw, then says no attacking throw
ReplyDeleteFurios Calabria gets YC.
ReplyDeleteHe points to his Captain armband, but that does not give him right to complain.
and also insulting him saying “cogl****”
DeleteSomeone please what does that mean

ReplyDeleteDisgusting comment.
DeleteIs SPA not a thing tonight for Martinez?
ReplyDeleteThe same was in ALBPOL. Very high threshold for SPA...
Delete52' looks like Jorgji has to be invited to OFR for a penalty... I think that in this situation he should have whistled either penalty or simulation, difficult to think about a play on...
ReplyDeleteWell, no penalty after OFR...
DeleteGood decision from Jorgji. No penalty
DeleteTo me rather no penalty. Very theatralic action by Leipzig's player.
DeleteGerman TV commentator ist furious. Says "millions of football fans saw a clear penalty ... just two persons did not: the ref an the VAR ...
Very intresting situation. The english commentators are furious and can‘t believe he didn‘t award RB a penalty. To me, I can see where he is coming from. Simons is looking for a contact and just leaving his foot on the ground initiating a contact. I think in the end he even gave a free kick to YB. Gutsy call.
DeleteBut what was the final decision?
DeleteHe quite clearly signaled goal kick, but the restart then happened as free kick...
No penalty is indeed supportable (and accepted as correct by the German commentators). The VAR intervention therefore rather doubtful.
OK, HaGo and I seem to listen to different commentators...
DeleteI agree with the ref
Delete@ Philipp S: I'm watching Sky ... in Austria.
DeleteIMO it's a clear penalty
DeleteI think, the final decision was an attacker's foul for he stepped on the goalkeeper's foot.
DeleteNever penalty
DeleteBut why VAR called referee
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/m0zknl
ReplyDeleteThe video of the incident in Bern: no penalty after OFR, very likely (not clear after gestures by referee) free kick in favor of keeper.
Well done to the referee who had the courage to keep his decision. Very theatrical fall by the attacker who stepped into the GK foot.
DeleteYes, he even whistled foul from attacker on goalkeeper!
DeleteThis can be the key frame for Jorgji assessment:
Deletehttps://ibb.co/hMWcjVK
Attacker deliberately changing his path to get the contact with keeper's foot? We can see that the leg of attacker is not upright like before. Nevertheless, shouldn't be then step on foot in this case and so missed YC to attacker?
If you see the incident from keeper's point of view, with his late attempt, this is a penalty as common practice, that's why VAR called him, in Italy this would be considered as penalty without discussion.
There is room for discussion, but a very particular decision by Albanian referee. Rosetti will have his say...
For me, no penalty is the best decision in this situation. It is not a clear dive, and also not really a clear stamp by the attacker. Normal accident/collision, rare but IMO we have one in this case. Strong by Jorgji not to change his initial decision.
DeleteIndeed quite courageous by Jorgji to decide against the Italian VAR with Rosetti observing...
DeleteVery special case with 4(!) supportable decisions: Play on, foul by attacker, foul by defender or dive by attacker.
For me dive by attacker, good Jorgji
DeleteI like the courage by Jorgji. He did not lose control of the game after that incident. Leipzig was furious and the commentators have repeatedly adressed that situation, saying it was a clear penalty and missed by the referee. Good job overall.
DeleteSuper Job from Jorgji.
DeleteGoing to be very interesting to see how Rosetti analyzes this. If he think Jorgji made the correct decision he will have a referee with great courage that is ready for the very big games, if he thinks it's wrong I doubt we will see Jorgji in any big game in the near future. Quite rare to see a decision that could have such big implications…
DeleteI agree with you Elliot.
DeleteThe 4th on Milan-Newcastle looks familiar….is he the same as from the Getafe-Barcelona disaster?
ReplyDeleteHe is the referee from Getafe-Barcelona, yes.
DeleteYou do not agree it was disaster?
DeleteBut he had an outstanding Performance last weekend in real vs San Sebastian in my opinion
DeleteSpanish refs are always a disaster
DeleteI watched the second half in Milano. I liked what I saw. I don't think either of the teams has any majour complaints. An improved performance showed by Sanchez.
ReplyDeleteClear corner missed by João Pedro da Silva Pinheiro on his CL debut
ReplyDeleteIt's his second CL game after Leipzig-Donetsk last season.
DeleteCome on…
DeleteAre we going to be writing down any fouls that aren't whistled?
It'll reach the Elite soon, but like this case we'll continue to see many!
20 minutes and the most problematic coach of CL has been booked, well done to Vincic!
ReplyDeleteSarri has been booked as well. We must admit that this new approach by referee against protests is very evident and we can only praise the referees.
Delete2 excellent onside decisions by AR1 in Barcelona at the goal from 20'
ReplyDeleteVery unbalanced game. There should not be problems here, gonna switch to another games.
I thought this one could have been more challenging than City - Crvena Zvezda but I was wrong.
DeleteYC lost by Vincic for Molina by SFP
ReplyDeleteNow Sarri has YC for the same reason as Simeone, Vincic is very attentive today
ReplyDelete40‘ correct no penalty for handball by Manzano. VAR checked but arm was in a natural position and even took a weird deflection of the own body, so unexpected.
ReplyDelete40' Quite a long VAR check for possible handball by Dortmund #15 Süle in Paris, I'm a little bit surprised it didn't end in an OFR, but I'm quite glad it didn't and if it a change on UEFA's strict interpretation on handballs, it's only for the better imo
ReplyDeleteIncorrect Offside call for the Red Star Belgrade goal. Correctly overturned on review. 100% support the decision
ReplyDeleteVincic has done well, except for the YC lost to Molina and, to be very strict, the position on the field is a bit confusing, very close to the plays and that is fine, I hope he does not interfere with a play. Well done
ReplyDeletePoor mistake by AR in Manchester, this goal should have been allowed.
ReplyDeleteMore of a technical question but why is SAOT sometimes taking so long like in Barcelona or Manchester tonight?
ReplyDeleteThe game in Manchester was one sided. Only in the guests half of the pitch. Apart from the 44' goal on counter attack. A pity that AR2 wrongfully raised the flag for offside. Goal awarded after VAR analysed. Shocking result at halftime. It is important that AR2 will keep his concentration and not let this wrong decisin affect him in the second half because now City will attack on his half and he might have a lot of work to do.
ReplyDeleteAny doubt about Feyenoord goal. when free kick is taken, an attacking team player is less than 1 m from the wall with more than three defenders?
ReplyDeleteIMO wrong penalty by Manzano.
ReplyDeletePenalty for PSG - totally wrong handball call on Sule. Common sense needs to come into play here
ReplyDeleteMay aswell give up on playing football if that is a penalty in Paris
ReplyDeleteNow a penalty was given by Gil Manzano, a harsh one in my opinion but I don't think VAR can intervene once penalty has been whistled. For my taste, the one in the first half was actually more of a penalty than this one
ReplyDeleteIf that’s unnaturally bigger then let’s throw away all whistles in the world and we can go home.
DeleteI said it before, spanish refs..........
ReplyDeleteOk, good offiside now by the AR2 in Manchester
ReplyDeleteAnyone else thinking that the kit of the GK of FEY isn’t much differing from the away-kit of Celtic. On TV it looks almost the same.
ReplyDeleteMissed 2nd YC for Stepanenko by D. Massa.
ReplyDeletehttps://dubz.co/c/d1c2fc
ReplyDeleteThe penalty call in Paris: I think we can consider the position of the arm consistent with the movement of the player, so I understand the point of view of those against the call. But I think it is right by VAR to support because the arm is not close to body, so defender took the risk. It is always the same problem with handballs, most of them are very harsh and can't be questioned by VAR. Gil Manzano shouldn't have whistled it, but once he did that, no chances for VAR.
To me it is a clear and obvious error. The arm can be considered close and is definitely natural. Horrible penalty decision and to me, VAR should intervene as the whistle clearly goes against the handball instructions.
DeleteDon‘t know how to support Gil Manzano in this situation. Arm is in a natural position for a fall, very small distance. Not in line with what has been said before the season.
DeleteI cant say this horrible. I even can say that there is not any wrong decision here. Both acceptable and for sure NO INTERVENTION.
DeleteI'm against the penalty in this situation, and I had the same opinion while watching the game as well as after analysing this clip. As Chefren said, the position of the arm is consistent with the body movement, at least for me. I don't see how his arm could have ended anywhere else, given the movement he makes. He is already starting to fall, and the arm goes out instinctively as a support. Distance was also pretty small. Taking everything into account, my final decision would be play on. However, if I had been the VAR, I admit it would have been a problematic dilemma for me. Eventually, I think Chefren is right in this regard: given the current guidelines, VAR's hands were probably tied. But of course, I may be completely wrong.
DeleteWhy can't be questioned by VAR? I think the handball rule is not clear and creates a lot of problems for refs, press and fans.
ReplyDeleteVery harsh penalty given to Feyenoord
ReplyDeleteClear and correct penalty
DeleteI think its soft but no VAR stuff. Can understand Scots anger though...
DeleteCorrect PK + 2YC for reckless use of arm
DeleteCorrect penalty by Peljtio and 2nd YC in 62 for Feyenoord.
ReplyDeleteNo handball. The player is standing with arm in a normal position. Nobody keeps it closer to the body in this posture. Close distance
ReplyDeleteNo more moving of arm to the ball. Unexpected contact which plater cannot avoid.
In PSG.
ReplyDeleteGood red card decision by Peljto
ReplyDeleteCorrect RC for Celtic in FEY-CEL. Confirmed by VAR. Studs high above the ground and stretched leg.
ReplyDeleteCEL down to 9 men
Correct penalty for Feyenoord in my opinion. Now an excellent straight red card for SFP by Pejlto. Really well done.
ReplyDeleteFor me really harsh RC. Red if we only consider the hitting point. However, only a small contact was made, force was not so high.
DeleteShocking red card 69’ by pejito horrendous he’s been!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great RC IMO. Wish that more refs would do this no nonsense approach when I compare it to the idiotie Sanchez "nothing is a card" approach
DeleteClear and obvious mistake by Manzano for my taste. If this is not natural position, then what is ? The player can’t possibly put his arm anywhere else. I’m sorry but that’s why VAR is here for.
ReplyDeleteThe point, that nobody has written so far, that he considers the penalty correct / the better decision, is also a strong indicator for a clear mistake...
DeleteShocking penalty call by pejito
ReplyDeleteStraight after the RC for Celtic, FEY makes the 2-0 which is correctly cancelled for offside by the VAR. To close for AR2 to decide.
ReplyDeleteCorrect RC for SFP by Peljto, studs up above the ankle with high intensity.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but we have to disallow again anonymous comments.
ReplyDeleteSimply unacceptable to read some posts, written by fans without any interest in refereeing...
Penalty and second YC by Peljto: https://streamin.me/v/8c27f0fe
ReplyDeleteVery soft decision, for me wrong. I would have played on. Don't know whether it will be supported or not...
Hm, not too soft in my opinion. The defender is losing the duel and is using his arm to prevent his opponent running past him.
DeleteThe YC seems harsh though, because the arm doesn't really hit the face but rather below that.
Obviously given on the advice of the (busy!) Bosnian linesman. I think the decision is technically justified, it is a striking by a defender who panicked about an attacker going past him, but one can also ask if there really would have been many complaints in case of play on. Meanwhile, excellent/nailed on and very brave SFP call later.
DeleteCLEAR penalty and yellow card for reckless - illegal use of arms. I cant believe on my about your comments. you give this one every min in any part of the field but not for penalty? Mandatory reckless any minute.
DeleteIt's simply a correct decision for me, I have to say. A clear striking offence by the defender losing this duel to the attacker who is already past him. As for the YC, enough for me to deem it as reckless; maybe on the softer side, but still enough, at least for me.
DeleteHaving said that, I'm just watching some highlights from Peljto's game and I can say I'm really satisfied, seemed like a good game for him tonight.
Took me quite a while, but I now realized, that the YC is clearly correct for (at least) SPA here. Reckless or careless doesn't really matter...
DeleteGreat Peljto!
ReplyDeleteStraight RC by Peljto for SFP:

excellent decision... well spotted thank to positioning, I think even VARA stuff in case of YC
Excellent decision indeed, very well spotted and clear and firm in issuing the card. Well done.
Delete83' of Lazio vs. Atletico - missed freekick for a striking foul by Griezmann, then clear tactical foul by Cataldi with no YC given, but then two(!) Lazio players cautioned for dissent for protesting about the initial erroneous play on. Clear guidelines about dissent and so on can be a bit jarring if you compare to some other aspects of modern refereeing...
ReplyDeleteAgreed, so far it looks like the referees really apply what has been said before. Many cards for dissent and rightly so.
DeleteINCREDIBLE ending in Rome...
ReplyDeleteThere was a penalty request prior to the goal. Correctly rejected by Vincic imo, not punishable.
ReplyDeleteThank you Chefren for disallow Anonymous comments. It is very hard to know who is writing what and not to speak about fans who protect their team or country.
ReplyDeletePeljto huge game tonight and should be praised as we know today it is last thing referee wants to take red cards on big stage. I like his second yellow and red there as this was correct call and this is key moment in the game. For me super clear Chefren because it is goal chance and it does not need to be a lot intensity , enough with only hand in face to disturb player from goal chance. It is yellow by the rule and I like that he did not cared that penalty is enough or that player was already on yellow card. Many refs would go only with PK here. The other red card is super clear nothing to speak about.
Refs showing more cards for dissent is also great to see.
All in all not so hard games for refs today but still overall I am very satisfied with their performances . Jorghi was really good in Bern .
Agree.
DeleteJust seen the rejected review from Jorgji. Imo great decision, very minimal if any contact from the goalkeeper.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I've been impressed by Peljto each time I've seen him, seems a very solid referee
ReplyDeleteSorry but Vincic may be elite and one of the best refs in your eyes, but his foul line and when to book players for fouls is unacceptable.
ReplyDeleteClear YC's for fouls not given(Cataldi, foul by Griezmann.
Then foul on Correa) and then YC's given for protests(Immobile,Patric,Correa)that should never happen if he whistles foul.
Very inconsistent booking and foul line and of course,he will get good grade for this match and he usually does, but one day he will have consequences for his style and match where everything boils over.
Cause these are clear errors, just not that deciding.
It's no accident that he booked both coaches in 1st half and I agree,he should punish protests.
But in the same time,we have to wonder what led those coaches and players for that reactions and his style of refereeing is the answer.
But this match one will go in one with one of old sayings:
When both teams are equal in complaints, that means you did not damage anyone.
TV pundit and Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer:
ReplyDelete"The way the referee stumbled and strutted across the pitch, it's no fun any more. Can I actually be banned? I don't know if Roberto Rosetti is here today. When he struts around the stadium like that, I always think: when the youngsters see that, they think strutting is right. I've always thought that the referee must have a certain authority and naturalness on the pitch. I just don't like this arrogance, this waving off."
Interesting idea, that Rosetti has a bad influence on the referees regarding body language, especially "strutting"...

ReplyDeleteThe mentioned incident from Lazio - Atlético Madrid.
Missed Griezmann action, here maybe you can blame more AR2, then missed the YC when he whistled foul on the counterattack to Cataldi.
Differently from other referees, very often I see Vincic missing very evident cards, you don't have explanations for that.
Either lacking in knowledge (but impossible), or I don't know...
But at least committee guidelines about protests are strctly applied, and in this regard, the Slovenian can find himself back, when he was Category 1 before promotion, he was such a referee, very brave.
After that, he changed...
He adapted to the game.
DeleteVery lenient game I might add.
But missing evident cards is something that,as you mentioned, happens to him often.
I just watched the clip from Lazio-Atletic game and I can not believe that Vincic was not even close to show yellow cards from Griezmann and Cataldi.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredible bad from elite refreree, this is minute 84 in the game. Griezmann with super clear hit and if Vincic in bad position his AR was just 3 meters away with clear view .
Holding by Cataldi on Riquelme from behing with two hands to stop counter attack also 84 minute late in game and no yellow card wow.
As many of you stated this is not first time he do this super mistakes . We know he is very close to Ceferin but this is so bad for committee and their image.
Was long time ago I saw this kind of mistakes so late in game , this is mandatory yellow cards even in first minute of the game but we have seen some of refs letting it go early but never so late in the game.
Shakhtar - Porto:

Missed second YC for step on foot, AR2 quick in raising the flag for reporting the foul, but they missed the kind of incident. Factual crucial mistake...
@chefren Orsato left as fourth official in Atalanta - Cagliari, Sunday at 3pm do you think he can get a Europa League md2 match?
ReplyDeleteNext week there are not European games. So there is no connection.
DeleteI remember a couple of days ago some opinions/speculations here on the blog about Orsato being rested in order to give him a game in MD1 - it did not happen as you can see.
I didn't notice it, forgive me
