  1. All readers suspecting Allard Lindhout would be put on hold after harming Italy’s u21 against France can be relieved. Europa League debut in Olympiakos vs Freiburg(!) game.

    1. Committee member for him... still KNVB revealing appointments before :)

  2. Totally unrelated but Delajod appointed to Le Classique PSG-Marseille. What is Gautier seeing in this referee?

  3. It will be interesting to see appointments for the games in Bratislava and Lublin, observed by Cakir and Kassai.

    1. It is very difficult to predict the referees for the Conference, there are always many options, but I am going with Walsh observed by Kassai and Theoulí observed by Cakir.

  5. Wow, Sylwestrzak debut in group phase only 15 month after his first international match.

    1. It will be very difficult for him to bounce back so quickly after the fully understandable, but causing horrendous media and fans reactions, wrong 2YC to Legia's star Josué in the first half of Piast - Legia on last Saturday. Fingers crossed for him!

    2. I agree with you, I hope he will forget about Saturday and referee this match perfectly.

  6. The most notable ref-obs pairings:
    Manoúchos - Mažeika
    Ciochirca - Çakır
    Chiffi - Kassai
    Sylwestrzak - Gestranius
    Kuĺbakoŭ - Gautier

Manoúchos, Frappart, Cuadra Fernández and Kuĺbakoŭ with - imo - best games, especially Genk - Fiorentina with the Frenchwoman and Club Brugge - Beşiktaş with the Belarussian (also a confirmation of Belarussian referees being 100% back in UEFA competitions).

    1. When i checked the appointment of Genk Fiorentina on UEFA Site, Jérémie Pignard was in charge, with Coniglio and Drouet appointed as ARs.

      Delete
    2. Then, the referee with assistants were deleted and another French trio appointed. Either way, too big match for Pignard, imo, and undeserved (due to her last performances) for Frappart.

    3. No PIGNARD is injured

  7. Who is the mentor of Očenáš?

  8. Again 0 Croatian teams appointed (except Bebek as VAR). Now in MD2 I expect 2 teams (between Strukan, Bel, Pajac and Jovic). Or we could definitely talk about unequal treatment.

    1. I think you always have to regard matchdays 1 and 2 in common. As to the EURO qualifiers, even the September appointments are not sufficient to draw any conclusions. From my (Austrian) point of view, we also were not considered at any of the EURO qualifiers in September and Ciochirca's debut in the Conference League is our sole assignment in the international club competitions so far. With Lechner, Gishamer and Weinberger as First Category referees, I would expect to see them on matchday 2. Back to Ciochirca: I read somewhere that Cakir is his mentor in the current season's talents programme and therefore already assumed to see him this week in Bratislava. Last season, Gishamer was coached by Fandel and also observed directly by him in one of his group stage matches. I didn't follow the other candidates and their observers but it seems that this could be the common practice.

    2. I think we must be patient, Bebek already in very very positive way to book his position in Euro 2024

    3. With MD1 and 2 appointed together, you can have 3 or even 4 Croatian crews on MD2.
Zero referees on MD1, if taken alone, doesn't mean anything...

      Delete
    4. I know, thats why I say I expect some appointments in MD2.

      Delete
    5. @Forlan: I can understand what you mean by "unequal treatment". On the other hand: (My country) Austria has 7 (male) FIFA referees, Germany "only" 10. Germany could consider these proportion "unfair" and argue that Austria is overrepresented. As far as I have in mind, Austria has as many UEFA observers as England - maybe also an "unfair" proportion ...

  9. First appointment for Kulbakov this season after two appearances as fourth official, it is interesting to observe that he gets a quite interesting game, surely not an anonymous one. Belgian team against Turkish side. It can be challenging and not so much hidden, but maybe the main argument is that competition is Conference League. Very curious to see how he will perform after all what happened.
Also, important to underline that Raczkowski seems free from alligations afte the notorious facts in Greece, that's very good for him. No development anymore for him, but still regular games as Cat. 1.
Another game for Spasjonņikovs after Denmark - San Marino, he seems quite on focus as Category 2...
Finally, about Chiffi, most suitable referee for a development among Italian Category 2, waiting for Sozza (he will follow), while Fabbri and Pairetto have no chances for performances and Maresca for age (but still...).

    1. Definitely interesting appointment for Kulbakov. I do not even want to comment on how treatment with referees from Belarus should be. BUT is it really wise to appoint them with a POLISH VAR crew? This even looks a bit ironic to me…

      Delete
    2. IMO it should be either OK or not OK for Belarussian referes to do UEFA games. Appointing them, but only in "hidden" games would be a weird compromise (but maybe expectable...).
So if he can do Conference League and performs well, I would also see him as a candidate for Champions League at some point this season.

      Delete
    3. The appointment of Kulbakov with Polish VARs may seem strange. But in my opinion, on the contrary, it is the Poles who understand the situation in Belarus better than anyone else, perhaps considering Belarus to be occupied in some sense.

  10. What is so special about Stephanie Frappart?

    ReplyDelete

    1. It’s normal appointment for cat.1, but to underline I still believe she wouldn’t go to Germany next year, UEFA will chose another female referee for development.

      Delete
  11. Pignard is injured and this might be replacement . We have talked here a lot that Frappart is not top 3 female referee anymore and ofc this is a bit surprise that she gets very tough game here.

Genk-Fiorentina 2 teams that plays very roughly and when you have to handle this players in English and not in your own language it can be tough for some referees . Genk took 6 cards in both of their last games and Fiorentina was very "dirty: side last season.

Frappart last game in UEFA was Lech-Djurgarden last year and she got big critics there. She missed 3 super mandatory yellow cards in first half and was very close to lose the game in second half but got saved by 2-0 goal . After that some low key games domestic and only 1/4 game in World Cup.

I think this is her last chance to prove herself and if bad game committee might put more focus on Caputti and Monzul.

About comment on Delajod getting Le Classique I don't see that as surprise . Last 8 Le Classiqe was in charge of the big 3 Turpin,Letexier and Bastien. But now Delajod is in front of Bastien and doing fantastic job. He needs big games and I am very happy for him as he impress for his young age always very brave no problem with hard decisions.

    1. On the other hand, she is also one of only three referees in this set with CL experience and the only one, who got a CL game last season.
So from this point of view, one could also say, that this is a disappointing appointment and a regression for her (unless she gets EL or CL next week, of course).

    2. An England versus Chile rugby match is scheduled to take place in Lille on Saturday afternoon.
This explains why the match has been brought forward to Wednesday, so that the pitch can be modified.

  13. Correct penalty given in Frankfurt

  14. Correct early PK by Theoulí in Frankfurt, careless trip.

  15. Busy first half for Cuadra: at first an OFR for revoking a penalty he had whistled, then a penalty whistled and a very long VAR check for detecting whether inside or outside the box. More than two minutes and penalty confirmed. It is true that a foul outside is penalty if it continues inside, but it looked to me that the contact ended outside, and player only fell inside. Nevertheless, surely De Burgos checked everything.

    1. Earlier Ferencváros scored, but female AR1 after long-long delay said offside, correct decision, but De Burgos checked this situation too this why 7 minutes added extra time.

      Delete
    2. And revoking of the first penalty was wrong IMO, there was a contact, the VAR showed a bad camera angle.

  16. Fantastic first half from Frappart. Very good positioning on the pitch and all 3 yellow cards mandatory well spotted and helped her to be in full control and gain respect from the players.

Not easy game at all as a lot rain in Genk and before the game both player busses has been attacked by fans.

  17. OFR for handball in the very last minute of added time in Helsinki, Barbu whistled the penalty after reviewing the incident.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Good impression by Manoúchos in Warsaw. The players behaved well so not a big challenge regarding management, but I liked his unobtrusive and cool-headed approach today. Some rejected penalty appeals, imo acceptable calls (watching it live). I will try to post clips when possible.

  19. I thought the Cypriot team did very well in Frankfurt

    ReplyDelete
  20. Correct PK after OFR by Raczkowski in Zagreb, defender stamped twice on the attacker.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Rejected OFR by Ciochirca in Bratislava who kept his original YC decision for reckless foul. Imo he should've followed VAR's advice, the force in the tackle is enough to warrant a red for SFP

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not a convincing performance from Ciochirca in Bratislava. He had a lot of problems with the disciplinary control and the the game managment. Furthermore, it was absolutely incomprehensible that he kept his YC decision after the OFR. It should have been a red card for SFP.

    ReplyDelete
  23. My opinion is really different here. Ciochirca's debut game was remarkable! His match control, decision-making, and fitness were top. What's more, he stuck to his decision, even with and VAR intervention which was wrong imo.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Here the possible RC in Slovan - Klaksvik:
    https://streamable.com/wis6xb
In my opinion rather a wrong VAR intervention, I don't see clear RC for SFP here. Only to be confirmed if issued by referee, but the intervention seems to be a bit forced if you ask me. Don't know, but maybe the refused OFR wouldn't be deemed as mistake by committee.

    ReplyDelete
  25. From Kulbakov game, the most interesting situation is a possible foul before 1-1 and the management by referee.
As Club Brugge gained again possession of the ball and then the player made a mistake in losing the ball, VAR couldn't intervene.
You have at first this tackle (see the replay) and then a possible reckless use of arm.

  26. Paweł Raczkowski in Dinamo Zagreb - Astana.

Penalty after OFR, clear intervention (foul with right foot)

Penalty whistled by referee, supportable (at least) decision
