Oliver finally gets the Odd Italian team!! It’s long overdue. This season although not so good at times the committee keeps trusting him and keep giving him big matches, if there was a match available to him in UCL he would have gotten a UCL quarter final, he is becoming a trusted referee for UEFA. I am so happy for Felix Zwayer!! He came back at the right time to quickly grasp the German 2 position at the time Aytekin was probably going strong but Felix deserves this chance.
ReplyDeleteAlso comment on English VAR, this shows something is wrong with Christopher Kavanagh, I only hope it’s not major and he returns soon.
DeleteIt is exactly the second time that he gets an Italian team after Real - Juventus, he handled Atalanta for the first time in CL Atalanta - Valencia two years ago.
DeleteOliver appointed to a good game after Sweden - Czech Republic, so his performance has been assessed as satisfying by the committee. No consequences for him. Let me say, it's a very different approach to what he had under Collina. Nowadays, you have to commit a huge mistake all media will be talking about or totally lose control like Ekberg in AUTMKD or Grinfeld in Rangers - Slavia in order to be ommitted by the committee.
ReplyDeleteBig, media appointment for Jovanović. Apparently, Rosetti sees a huge talent in him and consistently appoints him to big games. He will even directly observe him this time. I am not so enthusiastic about the Serb but we'll see his development in the nearest future. For now, it's more creating a refereeing stars by the committee than getting such status by referees themselves, in my opinion.
Big test for Zwayer with Dallas observing. The game is quite big and after all what happened to him it's going to be another stressful event for the German.
I wish good luck to all the appointed officials!
Happy to see Zwayer back. I suppose that the engagement of Jovanovic will rule out him for the return leg of CL. It's a pity !!
ReplyDeleteI'm surpized by the assignmnet of Massa; he is suspended in Italy so it's strange that he can officiate in Europe; at the same time Cakir can be appointed as well
Very happy to see Oliver again with an Italian team.
ReplyDeleteZwayer is fully back and he gets Dallas for checking his form.
Normal appointment for Massa, in Italy he is under a certain "suspension" but only on paper because he already appearead as fourth official in serie A on previous matchdays, while Jovanovic with Rosetti is surely something very interesting. After Siebert he is without doubts in my opinion at moment the nr. 2 among the new Elite and I also think he could get something big in the next weeks after this observation.
chefren, what is your ranking of the new elite referees?
DeleteI feel this is a big game for Jovanović.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's "only" EL, but it's Europa League in Frankfurt. If you've seen the videos, you know what I mean.
It's Frankfurt's biggest game in the last 40 years - Chelsea and Arsenal were big, Barca is much bigger.
If he keeps things under control and nobody talks about him afterwards, then Rosetti should hand him the flight ticket to Qatar straight-away.
Meanwhile in Africa the following match officials are confirmed for Qatar WC 2022
ReplyDelete.Mustapha Ghorbal (Algeria)
• Redouane Jiyed (Morocco)
• Papa Bakary Gassama (Gambia)
• Tesssema Balmak (Ethiopia)
• Victor Gomez (South Africa)
• Janny Sikazwe (Zambia)
• Maguette N’diaye (Senega)
• Jean Jacques Ndala (RD Congo)
It's Victor Gomes, not "Victor Gomez". He's of Portuguese descent, not Spanish's.
Delete1) Source?
Delete2) That's too many, CAF shouldn't have more than 4-5 referees in World Cup + I'm counting on people like e.g. Zourak as specific VARs.
Those are the 8 pre-selected referees from CAF - their names have been known since last year; nothing new. The final selection has not been made yet.
DeleteMany people praised a lot Mr. Pacifique for his performance at AFCON but I don`t see him on the list.
DeleteIm very happy to see Zwayer being back. Just the proximity people know what he passed thought, wasn't that easy but now he is being back step by step. Wish the best for him!

ReplyDeleteBig news coming from Russia. Very scandalous 23rd MD is over. Yesterday, RFU decided to punish some of referees for their mistakes. https://rfs.ru/news/215644
1) Spartak - Lokomotiv. Sergei Karasev and his VAR referee Pavel Shadykhanov are suspended by RFU for 1 and 2 games respectively for no OFR in this moment - https://streamable.com/073in6
2) CSKA - Ural. Igor Panin is suspended until the end of 21-22 RPL season for his refereeing level in 2021-2022 season and for his mistakes in this game.
1. penalty after OFR - https://streamable.com/d91yqi
2. penalty again after OFR - https://streamable.com/s3eqpb
3) Krasnodar - Dynamo. Aleksei Sukhoi and his VAR referee Artem Liubimov both are suspended for the end of RPL 21-22 season. Liubimov for wrong OFR and Sukhoi for changing decision after OFR. https://streamable.com/ujozhr
These sanctions are justified in my opinion.
DeleteOliver early minutes: correct YC for blatant holding (no SPA but unsporting behavior according to UEFA), and then a wrong offside call by AR2.
ReplyDeleteI thought the offside call was correct?? Looked tight and now wrong throw in which one can say gave Atlanta a goal!! A bit of play went on but ???
DeleteYes, ball was not totally out, wrong throw-in, but a certain time passed before goal, and Leipzig gained for a while the possession of ball again, difficult to make a direct connection with the goal, but still a mistake.
DeleteRewatching the offside, I think you can be right, maybe extremely tight, but very difficult to say.
AR1 with 2 very wrong offside call coupled with the wrong throwing he awarded, Stuart Burt having a bad game so far.
DeleteHe should have more courage in keeping flag down, I think the secret of an assistant referee is to raise only when 100% sure, in those cases it couldn't be! So far the only thing to underline in Oliver's first half is indeed the work by ARs. Quiet game.
DeleteMandatory YC by Oliver right now for a reckless challenge very close to SFP (leg hitting opponent's head).
ReplyDeleteCorrect penalty by Oliver
ReplyDeleteThe penalty is correct, however attacker was very clever in making it even bigger. Perfect positioning by Oliver.
DeleteOff-topic: Interesting situation for NZL referee Matthew Conger, who originally hails from the United States: He's been back in the US (I've heard due to New Zealand's COVID protocols making it impossible for him to travel for FIFA events) and has, for the first time, been appointed to a professional game here: he will referee Las Vegas Lights vs Colorado Springs Switchbacks in the USL Championship (our second division) this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI've heard some rumors that he wants to work in MLS while he is living in the US as well, but since this arrangement would only be temporary, I think there are some logistical/political hurdles that might prevent that. I hope he gets the chance, though!
Las Vegas Lights vs Colorado Springs Switchbacks
Cashman Field (5PM ET)
REF: Matthew Conger
AR1: Seth Martin
AR2: Justin Fillmore
4TH: Matthew Schwartz
OFR in Braga, minute 27', clear foul before goal scored by Portuguese team. Disallowed goal. Correct intervention by VAR.
ReplyDeleteOFR in Frankfurt. Jovanovic reversed the penalty as the Barca player played the ball first and then the opponent brought the fall
ReplyDeleteCorrect OFR in Frankfurt, for a wrong penalty being given and subsequently overturned after OFR, good performance by Jovanovic under the eyes of Rossetti until the Wrong PK which maybe he won’t be blamed so much!!
ReplyDelete100% right
DeleteRed card by Felix Zwayer for DOGSO, I think it’s correct especially as the defender didn’t even attempt to play the ball but dragged him down although the attacking player might have just been going away from goal!!
ReplyDeleteHe's going away never a red. No chance he could have put it in the goal or on target. Very little contact
DeleteI think the red card is correct if the ball and the player go vertically towards the goal, but it is very wrong as it moves sideways.
DeleteSupportable red card, correct by VAR to stay silent.
DeleteThe contat is at mininum, but this was enough to make opponent fall down. Very malicious wink by attacker when he realized that opponent had been sent off.
I understand what you mean but it’s more Red card than yellow!! The defender new what he was doing there, so right for VAR to support. Certainly a brave decision by Zwayer!
DeleteWhere was the contact. Maybe a finger to the back. A little tap was all I could see
DeleteThat contact is enough to knock down a running player but I think the card should have been yellow
DeleteDon't know what game your watching but that is never a red card in England. Felix zwayer is having a shocker blowing for "injuries" that aren't actually injuries. And where the f is VAR because I'm sure if this was premier league that would have been reviewed and possibly overturned
DeleteThx God it's a German Var not a England one :).
DeleteIt feels like the Germans are favouring the French.
DeleteThis sort of comment ie ridiculous. That is a red card in England, Scotland or wherever. He has a clear strike at goal in the box. A clear unimpeded strike in the box is a clear chance to score
DeleteNo the ball had clearly got away from the attacker and there is no clear contact
DeleteGwrmans haven't been kind to the English teams this season
DeleteOk David we understand your point of view.
DeleteCould the attacker get to the ball maybe. Could he have scored probably not. He bought the foul because he winked when the player got sent off how else can that not be construded as buying a foul
Delete@Davidcrammond I went through stress to seek out this pictures and see the first slide and see the clear thug and if you disagree I ll know you are not being objective
Deletehttps://twitter.com/theeuropeanlad/status/1512156331259703309?s=24
Watch the video fully he relinquishes hold on the player and then 5 seconds later player falls to the ground like Cresswell has pulled a gin out and shot him
DeleteWhy must cresswell tug him like that in the first place when he is running it’s a very stupid action by Cresswell and he deserves the consequence of the action, he thought he was just going to buy a foul and get yellow carded. It’s a clear foul, DOGSO ? Debatable but not wrong
DeleteFirst sight yes Red Card. Showed a replay not a red card why didn't var get involved and at least got him to have another look
DeleteEintracht penalty removed by VAR:
ReplyDeletehttps://streamff.com/v/333d1a
Correct decision by van Boekel, I think here we can all agree.
Disallowed goal Braga:
https://streamja.com/29ZXr
OFR is missing in the video, however you can see the foul in penalty area by attacker a few second before the goal, Massa tries to make efforts to see something, but he fails.
IMO correct intervention. Ball played and the contact after this is minimal. Bravely done by van Boekel. The referee’s view makes it seem that there was a scissor foul by defender.
DeleteMakkelie has the advantage to have a good VAR besides good assistants. This increases his final chances. Reliable team.
It is great to see Assistant Referees Stefan Lupp and Mark Borsch working with Felix Zwayer but it's also such a shame Felix Brych isn't able to be the man in the middle... He still had a few years to give and was at the top of his game.
ReplyDeleteRed card in London: https://streamable.com/o2kp4z
ReplyDeleteBased on that angle yes but that camera angle is as much use as a chocolate teapot
DeleteI'm watching over and over again this can't be a red card
DeleteThere is a better angle from behind the goal offset which for me if var had it they would have probably overturned the red
DeleteCould you share it, please?
DeleteIMO this is not DOGSO. YC is enough for me
DeleteAnyone watching Gozubuyuk?
ReplyDeleteYC to Cristante (18') could have been saved but not a mistake, nothing extra-ordinary after that in this game.
DeleteThanks Chefren.
DeleteCorrect 2nd YC for Frankuft by Jovanovic
ReplyDeleteBarca seems to be irritated by Jovanovic accepting Frankfurts very physical type of play. Aren't they used to physical play in "La Liga" anyway?
ReplyDeleteAny opinions?
That could indeed be a point in my opinion. Most of the La Liga referees do not allow such phsycal play. For example long year refs like santiago laimbre or gonzales fuertes often have a very strict foul detection. But in general you have more theatre in La Liga and the players look like they dont want such a physical play or at least their way of playing and acting makes it hard for referees to have no strict line
Delete2nd pitch invasion at the London stadium. Holy mackerel this game is going to finish at midnight at this rate
ReplyDeleteShocker from Zwayer- not much control of the game, interested to see if VAR look at the potential foul 15 seconds prior to the sending off.
ReplyDeleteLots of unnecessary whistling, poor control.
