  2. Big game for Oliver with Rosetti as observer, we know how much difficult is to officiate the French team in KO stage, nevertheless against a German opponent is still a bit different, if you ask me. The focus about pressure and so on will be all on French side. Good luck to him, we can say that the two English have two referees at very top level, but what about the rest?
Very good to see Schärer in the other game, KO stage debut for him, following his development with mutiple GS assignments in recent season, you can clearly understand that he is following a path.
Also, finally a different name for an Italian team, and it must be admitted that now all must be treated at the same manner. There shouldn't be anymore the management we saw in past, also, the quality of some Italian clubs has definitely decreased. This tie involving Milan and Spurs seems ad hoc for his development.

  7. A fan attacked a Millonarios player and Roldan insisted that the game had to be played, but Millonarios refused to play.
In the end, the game was called off because Millonarios did not come out of the dressing room to play.

The video of this discussion between Roldan and Millonarios is 2 minutes long; if any Spanish speakers would care to transcribe or translate this conversation that would be much appreciated!

  11. 30': Kjaer vs Kane is one of those situations, which are quite clearly not enough for a penalty (nobody asked for it), but are easily a free kick everywhere else on the field.

    1. Onfield penalty decision, in case, wouldn't have been questioned by VAR, but it is indeed OK to play on.

  12. Kjaer should have been booked already...

Very lenient in that aspect is Sharer, very unusual from him.

  13. Hows Michael doing. Worried if what happened at the weekend would effect him.

  14. Very good Oliver in a low difficulty game so far. Let's see if the things will spice up in the second half.

    1. To be reported a possible foul (not whistled) on Neymar at the edge of penalty area (he was hit in face, exaggerating contact, I think, but still foul), I also think that a few later the Brazilian made his reveng by fouling the opponent in a similar way. Nevertheless, both situations are minor ones so far.

    2. Agree with Chefren about the possible foul on Neymar: absolutely exaggerating, but still a missed foul for me. Also, maybe (but just maybe) an advantage was a better option than a foul on Musiala in 26'-27', but my perception might be wrong on that one. Everything else was fine for me, expected level in a low difficulty match.

    3. The general opinion is that foul is the expected decision indeed but I've seen dozens of duels like this in Premier League and at many of them - play on. Neymar exaggerating also didn't help him getting the foul. Kinda funny that after the game was stopped Oliver walked 60 metres towards Neymar, without running, it felt like an eterninty.
      Minor incident however.

  15. Now (49') in Milan a very dark YC. OK to support it by VAR, but RC wouldn't have been a mistake... many protests by Italian side.

    1. Yes, I agree. Not all the SFP boxes are ticked, therefore not a completely clear situation, but still more Red than Yellow, I think.
Also, it was the first card of the game, which normally raises the barrier for a RC.

  16. Strange yc for Dier, normal foul, lots of such fouls from both sides went without yc today.

  17. Correct second YC by Oliver for both reckless challenge and SPA.

    1. Fully agree, mandatory YC IMO, nothing to add on that.

    2. YC is probably more expected, but RC-SFP isn't too absurd either, I think. The tackle is actually quite dangerous due to the scissor movement.

  18. Wow, must have been a pretty low key return to the Champions League judging by the low numbers of comments.

  19. Mihael Oliver Gave an outstanding performance in what was a potential explosive match and has to be commended for his calmness in dealing with high profile players. He and his team deserve the highest marks for what can only improve his already high profile and standing in world refereeing standards. He is without doubt the number 1 English & European referee at the present time. Roll on to even greater and biggar appointments in the years ahead.

    1. Let's not exagerate. A good, but not outstanding performance by Oliver. And definitely not "number 1 European referee" as you wrote above.
