Well, how do you read the appointment of Mateu, Bastien, Collum and Siebert in UECL ? Is it a demotion or just a turnover ?
ReplyDeleteFrom my perspective:
ReplyDeleteLahoz - I am afraid we should not expect much from him this season. After the disater from Netherlands-Argentina at WC, he had at least one terrible game in Primera, not sure how he performed in other games this year. But it's possible that Rosetti already consider him retired. More credit these days to José María Sánchez (very good game for him), Alejandro Hernández and of course Gil Manzano (really like his style; has all the qualities required to reach European finals imo)
Bastien and Collum are at the normal level for them, personally, never been a big fan of the first one, I prefer Letexier, who got a fair game in UEL.
Siebert, a little bit complicated, it is indeed surprising to see him here. But the game is tight, so not a bad appointment nevertheless. He had a couple of poor performances this autumn in UCL after that infamous Atletico - Man City last season, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a good level of refereeing by him at WC and I thought that he passed the difficult moment. Probably Rosetti needs a confirmation of that before UCL light.
How powerful is RFEF? 6 crews appointed in 2 weeks?
In this case it must be a coincidence because these appointments have been made before 06/02, so before the earthquake. But is is surely particular, in his fate it seems that there is something particular written about emotional teams to be officiated...
ReplyDeleteI start with Zwayer, he gets ECL with Siebert, while Stieler will officiate in EL. As always, differently from all other big federations, no rankings for German top referees in UEFA, they always switch competitions based on current form. I would say, CL and ECL are quite on a similar level for these games, but still, one could have expected more at least for one of them (Zwayer...). Let's see whether at least a German will manage a CL KO game. Given his appointment, and I was exactly expecting that, it seems that Siebert has to restart again the gain of trust by committee.
ReplyDeleteTo me a normal assignment for names like Collum and Bastien, I consider OK to see them in Conference League. Unlucky the French, absolutely meaningless game in Florence.
Normal appointments for Ekberg, Dabanovic and Treimanis.
Mateu Lahoz must restart after World Cup.
Interesting to see Walsh as 4th Official just 3 days before major cup final in Scotland. David Coote on VAR is the English League Cup Final referee on Sunday as well
ReplyDeleteJust about to mention that
DeleteI would like to know what referees who officiate UEFA competitions (CL-UEL-UCL) get paid. Previously, they were paid a fixed amount according to their category (elite-first...) and another amount for the competition. Is it true that assistant referees are paid half?
ReplyDeleteARs are paid 30% of the referee fee.
Delete37': simulation by Zwayer against Lazio. I think there was a soft touch, not enough for a penalty. Correct by VAR to stay silent, the Italian player is known for his behavior to look for contacts.
ReplyDeleteGood perfomance by Treimanis in normal match, but two crucial situation with DOGSO and 2nd YC was solved very good. Very surprised style-very strong , not lenient
ReplyDeleteHaving potential red card check by VAR but issuing no card sounds a bit weird for the incident at 17th min Basel- Trabzonspor game
ReplyDeleteCertainly! And, Now I don't understand why he canceled the penalty.
DeleteThe firsr 30 minutes show why a big name is not bad for the game in Basel: Many, many turkish fans there, the game is quit actionful and heated but not really unfair yet. But it will be very easy to lose in 2nd half, Lahoz will have to be at his best.
ReplyDeleteBtw the (missed) penalty was soft but supportable.
Now he missed his 2nd (dark) YC; this time against Trabzonspor. But his management and communication skills are so special and work perfectly so far.
DeleteTrabzonspor penalty is cancelled by OFR.
DeleteHe is too lenient also. So many fouls in midfield continuous by same players and no booking.
DeleteNow a very, very slight offside at possible 1-1. Impossible for AR2 to detect. Many fireworks were burned now
DeleteIn Florence VAR check after GLT, because the ball has not entered the net. Not the first time that GLT doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteIncredible GLT now says goal.
DeleteDid the referee get to see the goal line camera and GLT graphic at the screen?
DeleteJust as well they were 3 goals up on aggregate.
Weird situation indeed, but wrong restart of play after decision overturning: corner kick. It should have been a dropped ball to the goalkeeper.
DeleteNo, @AlexD. It was not the "wrong restart."
DeleteI am shocked by how little common sense comes into play on situations like this. The ball was cleared out for a corner kick. THEN the referee indicated his watch was triggered by GLT so he awarded the goal. Then, via VAR and an OFR, he annulled the goal. You don't suddenly just drop the ball to the goalkeeper. First of all, the whistle did not go when the ball was in play so there's really no lawful justification for that. Secondly, from a common sense standpoint, a mistake that would have wrongly changed a corner kick to a goal should not magically benefit the defending team with the result being they get possession of the ball.
If we all want to be elite referees or at least analyze elite referees, we need to know what we are talking about. In a situation like this, corner kick is the correct restart for both LOTG and common sense reasons.
The question of how/why the VAR and referee felt they had enough evidence to overrule GLT is a much bigger one, though.

That YC situation Bastien had in 70' must be the worst managment I saw in last 10 years. Wow!
ReplyDelete@Chefren: Any footage/clips of Bastien decisions?
ReplyDeleteI can't find a free download for this game, BTW I took a look at the YC incident in 70', never seen something like that, extremely poor!
