  3. Orsato is fourth official in serie A on next Friday (and his assistant referees will work on Saturday with another referee), quite sure he will handle a CL game either on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The game should be Liverpool - Real Madrid I think, with Hugh Dallas.

    1. Interesting - possibly, I'm not so sure though, with limited options for the German officials (and doesn't seem they would be trusted with Italian teams after recent performances) my pick would have been someone like Siebert with Dallas. I would have kept Orsato on a 2nd leg fixture with importance like Bayern v PSG.

    2. Siebert in RMA-LIV??? It must be a joke

    3. After all what happened it is indeed impossible to see Siebert in that game, Zwayer in case of a German is the only possible choice.

    4. If the Germans are out of Italian games then there are only 2 possible options RMA v LIV in R1and BRU v BEN in R2
so I can see Zwayer & Siebert on those
I may have missed why Siebert can't do that match (Liverpool are not the team they have been this season). I can also see Zwayer there too

    5. @Alfie46 see Atletico Madrid x City (quarterfinals, last cl season) you may understand why the people had this reaction.

    6. The question is, whether Dallas still is an important observer, that would rather indicate a younger referee, e.g. Jovanovic. Or is he a "normal" one now, where Orsato would be more logical (although he also had Real on MD5, but UEFA might not care about that).
I also thought, Orsato would be the logical choice for Bayern-PSG 2nd leg.
I don't believe, the Germans should be ruled out from all Italian teams, only the ones, where the particular referee had a problem. If they are considered good enough for a CL R16, any game should be possible.
E.g. Zwayer for Inter-Porto or Tottenham-Milan should be an option, I think.

    7. Thanks @ZwayerBrazil- I'll have a look.
I also agree that the Germans should be possible for those , we don't know if UEFA feel differently.

  4. Superb Gil Manzano so far. I think RFEF should not be worried after Lahoz and CdCG will retire. Gil Manzano has all the qualities needed to reach an European final or KO stage games in final tournaments.

I'm not a fan of the kind of penalty whistled by Massa to Benfica, but it is common and accepted in football. My question is: what defender should do when he is about to kick the ball and an attacker puts deliberately himself ahead of him to be fouled and to get penalty call by referee? There isn't any careless action by defender, only cleverness by attacker to use the situation...

    1. I understand your point, but I would say, it is somehow careless by the defender. He needs to expect the attacker's action resp. make sure, that this can't happen.

    2. The defender is about to kick the ball? and the attacker not? But the one who gets the ball is the attacker

  6. Absolutely superb advantage in Dortmund

  7. Mass confrontation in Dortmund in 90', but I don't think, there is any blame on Gil Manzano. He reacted quickly to the foul near the sideline and then also booked the two most guilty players in the confrontation.
