ReplyDeleteVery good observation, it is indeed extremely difficult to understand the real consideration that committee has in him, let's also consider the story about his past that came back in recent times. Basically I think he is a quite good referee, very often he showed some controversial performance, especially some seasons ago, but basically to me he is a very strong German name, even more than Stielera and Aytekin (this is very easy to say). A possible competition with Siebert would see still Zwayer in advantage for his experience, to me he was always the German nr. 2 after Brych.

Zwayer Nr. 2 in Germany? If we consider his national performances, this is ridicolous. His marks in kicker and other magazines sre low average. All Players being asked end of the season rated him on place 19 of 24. His arrogance, his lack of a clear foul detection, his talent of putting himself often in the centre, his problems with teamwork, many fractions between him and his colleagues, and his unclear "maybe-relations" to Hoyzers bet-mafia in Berlin... Sorry, but he should be very thankful that he is still refereeing in Eliteclass.
DeleteIts a shame that theclear number one of Bundesliga, Deniz Aytekin has decided to end his international career cause of family reasons right now. He is continuing in Bundesliga, but wants to see his family more often and so 1 game at weekend is enough. He also is head of a lawyer-company and of a fitnesscenter-ckmpany as well and needs time for that, too.
But believe me, Sven Jablonski from Bremen, who. Just got the FIFA-badge, will soon walk in his footsteps. And with Florian Badstübner we have a very!!! promising young talent in the background, who is crystalclear enforcing law, but the players still appreciate that his line is obvious and clear.
And Siebert is a really good ref, so I am very optimistic, we in Germany have no problems with our refs in future...
I think you are not seeing the matches I see. Not because I'm his fan, but many people can agree with me that he evoluted his performances. Also you are using Kicker grades? Lol, they hate him and always put his grade down exact to them criticize him and they also don't know anything of rules and refereeing at all. His performances are very good, his experience is amazing and he has a great fitness and great use of the rules. Review your content please :)

DeleteDespite of some controversial performances, Zwayer is clearly German nr. 2. I was 100% percent sure that he will get another chances. On the other hand, this autumn, you can expect very good appointments for trusted refs like Zwayer, CdCG, Gil Manzano, Bastien, Gozubuyuk, Massa(his case is a little bit particular, but Rosetti has to rush the process as there are good chances that Orsato will retire after WC) etc. It should not be a surprise if some of the referees that will go to Qatar will be kept in shadow sometimes.

DeleteDoes have a link for a full match replay of Kyzylzhar Petropavl vs. APOEL Nicosia, Siebert's Conference League qualifier last week? I'd cut clips from it if so (there is a very interesting scene where he verbally warns a coach, you can hear him talk in English very clearly); the only one online is in not great quality and audio out of time. Can report a good performance by the German, just slightly hesistant in some isolated scenes, but overall pretty strong in a fairly spikey tie.

Okay, I just watched it again and maybe very clearly is an exaggeration :D I recorded the scene on my phone, video below. If you listen carefully, you can definitely make out what Siebert is saying (a shame that the Russian commentator talks over it somewhat). It was quite interesting for me, especially under the heading 'managing the technical areas', after we all remember what happened in his famous game last season.

DeleteSeems Siebert had a good evening. Despite the high number of cards, The German simply had to show them. 70' is a mandatory caution for me, I'm still okay with no card in 89'.
It is quite clear that Siebert is not the most confident leader on the pitch (eg gestures in the 85' scene), he relies more on tactical approach/game reading. This might be an area for him to work.
Good to see the German hasn't been much troubled by his Man.City-Atlético QF - poor performance in a game he simply wasn't ready at all for - with the WC coming within 3 months, a strong form is almost everything he can ask for.

just trying to ask with a much better quality of answers than I asked elsewhere, the first question what is the most important thing for a country whose referee quality is very far behind even compared to its own neighboring countries to improve? In this case, I am from Indonesia, a country that is very fanatical in supporting its team but the quality of Indonesian human resources is very poor, in this case the referee problem which has become an annual disease since two decades ago. Neighboring countries already have elite referees such as Singapore with Muhammad Taqi Aljaafari Bin Jahari (will become VMO in Qatar), Malaysia with Mohd Amirul Izwan bin Yaacob (AFC Elite), and Thailand with Sivakorn Pu-Udom ("elite" VAR in AFC ). In this case Thailand has implemented VAR for a long time, Indonesia which wants to implement VAR is constrained by the problem of the very few FIFA licensed referees, even less than 5 in Indonesia and even this FIFA referee often causes controversy. Another question is how should VAR be applied to countries with "unique" or "problematic" conditions? Hope you understand the meaning of my questions. Here I try to show from other sources some mistake from the referee.

and many other controversies, including refereeing firmness (it is customary to leave the first SPA only a warning or no warning at all even if it should be clear YC) and the assistant referee's poor performance in the case of offside. In this season an additional referee was tried which in Europe was abandoned a few years ago, but it is clear that often it is not useful because often AAR is just a "sculpture" and the problem is the same (HR).

Pretty clear, nothing to add. It was not only the holding but legs contact too.
Despite the low difficulty of the game, it was (very) good performance by Antonio Rapuano. Foul detection and general approach were perfect for this game. I will let Chefren to take care of the video links.
For me the 41. minute isn’t that clear. The holding occurs from both sides, the attacker significantly holds the defender’s shorts. Then the defender plays the ball which, admittedly, stays in playing distance of the attacker, and after that defender stumbles and attacker stumbles. I don’t see a really clear contact caused by the defender which made the attacker fall.

DeleteIt is like Kulbakou/Karasëv to Saudi Arabia during the summer. I leave it for others to determine what the right approach is regarding match officials and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But what is clear that is that UEFA/FIFA took the action they did - not because they believe it to be 'morally right' - but that they are only guided by media reception and threats of other team's withdrawals.
That's very clear, Mikael. Nowadays almost everything is done because committees are forced and not because they really believe in what they do.

DeleteAs far as PGMOL is concerned, they probably don't have an issue with the first goal and the Romero hair pull is more on the VAR as Taylor is focusing on the expected dropzone at the near post. I would have been pretty surprised to see him get the weekend off. Plus, he's probably going to have CL match next week so him getting a chance to get the Chelsea game behind him is probably a good thing.

Unknown. Doctors gave the ok but is up to him if he wants to take the low risk and get back on the grassor not. There were a couple of uncorfirmed rumours that O. Hațegan decided to continue only from the VAR room. So far, he was VAR in every single matchday in Romanian First League, usually in a potentially hot game. On the other hand, he was present at the Refereeing Course in Frankfurt in July. We'll see.

Predictions for second leg?
ReplyDeleteI think the two hottest matches will be in Belgrade and Trabzon. In Trabzon, Marciniak or Lahoz will be suitable. I also think Soares Dias would be in Belgrade, because despite VAR in there, I don't think UEFA would take the risk to choose World Cup referee in Belgrade (although actually it should be necessary) after Makkelie incident.
DeleteJudging from first game in Copenhagen, Marciniak will be send to handle the 2nd leg. Mateu to Belgrade, Turpin for Benfica game in Portugal (or might fancy him a Dinamo - Bodo game and Taylor to Portugal)

Hmm Mateu recently officiated AZ - Dundee. Would be a surprise to see him again with a Scottish and Dutch team. I wouldn’t mind though ;)

This time I think that all three games were not so challenging as one could have expected on paper, I think all good officiating, for what I could see.
ReplyDeleteSince the abolishment of away goals, the first legs are in my opinion more football-focused, less cards, whereas second legs are more intense and players behaviour is worse, do everything to win.
