  1. I think Malmö-Sivasspor is the most competitive match in the referee's perspective.

    1. Based on Malmo's performance against Zalgiris, competitive I don't think is the right word considering the mentality of the Malmo players at that time. But, I agree that the match can be difficult for the referee.

  2. Spanish referees are almost systematically sent to Eastern Europe/Balkan/Greece/Turkey/Caucasus this summer :D

Hernández Hernández in Armenia, Sanchez Martinez in Cyprus (and yesterday in Belgrade) & Gil Manzano next week has Fenerbahçe-Austria Wien.

Also yesterday in UECL 2nd legs, Martínez Munuera in Israel (Hapoel Beer Sheva-Lugano) and Cuadra Fernández in Turkey (Konyaspor-Vaduz)

Soto Grado in Albania (Tirana-Dudelange) and later in Greece (PAOK-Levski)

I wouldn't say that Hungary is 'Eastern Europe' but De Burgos Bengoetxea's Ferencváros-Slovan was quite demanding in terms of atmosphere (also, both clubs have been punished by UEFA for their supporters' behaviour and Ferencváros for use of disrespecful political banners)

Is it because they are used to referee in crowded stadia?

  3. I think this time I will looking forward for the performance of Stieler and Collum (after twice OFR in Yerevan) :))

  4. Just a few words on Siebert, after the trip in Kazakhstan, this appointment shows in my opinion that now committee wants to be more careful with him. He will get surely CL in group stage, but as for now, no focus on him after the recent facts.

    1. Indeed, it seems unfair to him after almost unseen rise and, I will be free to say, mostly great performances on the highest level.

No doubt that it wasnt deserved at first and it was a desperate move to have another German ref at EURO, but Siebert showed it wasnt a mistake, and did football a favor because we dont have to watch Zwayer on that level so much

    2. Chefren, can you say more, about what facts you are speaking? Thanks, in advance.

    3. The poor performances he had in recent times after the full trust by committee, nothing else!

  5. With an very important observer and a match that shouldn't be challenging enough (football-focus teams), Frankowski should do well.

  7. Well, Kruzliak with Ludogorets is also not an easy match. We've all seen Zagreb - Ludogorets. Pressure from the stands, from the bench, a lot of pressure on the pitch. Not an easy job for Kruzliak and maybe a chance to show his worth. I still think he's a good referee.

    1. Harm Osmers will handle the second leg match. Strange that secon leg (more decisive) will be handled by a lower category ref than first leg ref

      Delete
    2. How do you know?

      Delete
    3. @anonymous 12:12 Strange? maybe you didn't see the result of Crvena Zvezda-Pyunik and Bodo-Zalgiris, how can you make sure the 2nd leg is more decisive than the 1st leg, it's often the 1st leg it's decisive so it's not a strange appointments like you said.

      Delete
    4. To be frank, I don't think Kruzliak is a much better referee than Osmers. A lower Elite versus top Cat.1
(as far as categories mean anything nowadays :D)

      Delete
    5. If Osmers really gets that match, it would confirm the trust of the committee, he got already. I generally like him, but the ups and downs in his oerformances still make me a bit doubting.

      Delete
    6. Osmers' appointment has already been confirmed by UEFA. For sure he will have his Europa League GS debut early this season.

  9. Many referees are from top countries, in this summer. But many of the small countries are outside the appointments, especially for many of them it is also like an increase in income. If we make a comparation, referees of the same category from different parts of Europe (including countries) have different numbers of delegations and, of course, here the income is different. They all give the same test, the same requirements, but double standards. Not quite right!

  10. OT: Incredible scene from Mexico. Cruz Azul – Toluca referee Fernando Hernandez FIFA.
About the first clip is not acceptable for a referee to not give a decision on the field of play and waiting for VAR. As for other clips I prefer to enjoy the 2 commentators.
For those who understand Spanish those 2 commentators are simple brilliant :)

    81' waiting VAR… https://streamable.com/hv3f0c
    87' penalty appeal live https://streamable.com/63efro
    var intervention https://streamable.com/anu77m
    GK shirt :) https://streamable.com/qcknba
104' var intervention for penalty https://streamable.com/uyv7ft

    1. Fernando Hernández transmits a lot of insecurity in his decisions, he lacks credibility IMO. As for the penalty and expulsion, IMO is a wrong decision by VAR, I'm not sure it's intentional.

    2. Same referee who blocked a shot on goal at the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup... Mexico should give their top matches to Ramos and Guerrero.

  11. IMO correct (and brave!) DOGSO RC by Pinheiro in HJK-Silkeborg.

Brave for modern standards, indeed. Expected decision in this case is always YC, but RC is appropriate as well and VAR wouldn't intervene.

    2. Eerily remined me of Piqué's RC for his challenge on Neymar in 2013 Confederations Cup final.

The fact that the ball isn't going exactly in goal direction because the attacker had to do it in order to dribble the last defender isn't an excuse for me because he was looking for a 1 vs 1 with the GK, GSO and not promising attack in my book.

      Delete
    3. Quite clear DOGSO in my opinion.

Correct goal disallowance by AR1. Very tight disallowance by AR2 in first half - possibly wrong decision.

Clear YC missed by ref for stamp/step on foot for HJK-player in second half.

    4. Never a DOGSO for UEFA…

  12. Penalty given to Hearts against Zurich. Quite a delay in giving it, almost certainly with help from AR2 but absolutely correct decision

William Collum, Malmo 3rd goal vs Sivasspor
How do you assess it? Although in the end it's "lucky" for Collum passiveness

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Clear penalty (if no goal scores) arm is way above his head in an unnatural position and as such, he is making his body bigger

      Delete
    2. expected performance by Collum in such as intense game but not really difficult (8.2/8.3 for me, small improvement), I forgot to record Sivasspor goal which is very tight onside decision I think and another Collum "strange" position for free kick, if I'm not mistaken in around 33' he seemed block the kicker from taking a free kick in another way (pass to the side)

  14. Clip of Hearts penalty?

  15. Great advantage By Collum before 3rd goal

  16. Mr Collum is excellent referee and is handling the game very well
    Using his vast experience.
    Well done

  18. Predictions

Viktoria Plzeň - Qarabağ: Mateu Lahoz
Dinamo Zagreb - Bodø/Glimt: Soares Dias
    Trabzonspor - København: Marciniak
    Benfica - Dynamo Kyiv: Taylor
    PSV Eindhoven - Rangers: Turpin
Crvena zvezda - Maccabi Haifa: ...?

Regarding the sixth name, I'm a bit clueluess. Probably a referee we already saw in a first leg.

  19. Does anyone have an idea how long it takes before there is an outcome of the appeal by Bulgarian team? (Kovacs)

  20. Hearts penalty against Zurich given by Frankowski. 50 seconds in.
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pfD2Fyu_R7Y

Quite a delay and initially waved it away but correct in the end

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Very interesting, you can also add that referee made gestures of waving on, in such circumstance it is more unique than rare to change idea, so we can assume that the input came from AR2.
And in this case it should be very interesting to observe that maybe the best view was for referee, so clear mistake by him and excellent intervention by another official, as it was a very clear penalty.

      Delete
    2. Not a convincing decision. It lasted 5 seconds between his 'no foul wave' and the penalty kick whistle. IMO, the referee was closer to the action and had a better view than AR2.

    3. full situation here. for sure because of the situation they have missed YC nr 8 for stamping but in the end the penalty given is more important. well done AR2 good and brave call. YC for nr 10 was for protests

  21. RKS Raków Częstochowa (POL) - SK Slavia Praha (CZE)
In overall a good performance by Saggi with some details to improve but he is still young and I’m sure he will improve by time. The main problem IMO is his attitude, very soft. He has the same problem as his compatriot Eskas, both of them should understand that behavior of players in Europe is not the same as in Norway and the approach with the players should be totally different in European games. During the game despite good foul calls he had many “small” protests by both teams (players raising their hands, disagreement by gestures, by body language etc. ) and Saggi in non-off those protests didn’t made at least an public warning. This in the main point to improve in my opinion. His foul detection was very good during all game, he let it game flow and didn’t interrupted with soft fouls (except at 89’) His fitness was very good, good position during the game and free kicks (except one corner kick at 87’) This was my opinion for what I saw, below you will find the links and everyone can create their own ideas. Good luck in the future Rohit :)

11' first foul of the match https://streamable.com/30k753
    2 good play on https://streamable.com/3m4jd9
25' I like it no card here and last warning of the player https://streamable.com/hw6zv9
26’ wrong offside AR2 https://streamable.com/gg63ti even his foul detection was not good at this game, 2 times Saggi whistles near to him and he gave throw in instead of foul + one wrong foul at 83’
27' penalty appeal SLP. good play on https://streamable.com/5lxszf
head to head injury, faster reaction needed https://streamable.com/advvo1
42' penalty appeal RCZ. good play on https://streamable.com/yvcdjz
    50' more strong presence https://streamable.com/h4i0z7

77' strange position during CK https://streamable.com/jlpml7
    81' YC RCZ https://streamable.com/gdymoj

    2. And Raków's coach should be punished by UEFA for his statements at post-match conference. "I am proud of winning this game despite of scandalous refereeing. Two penalties [not given], two 1v1 situations stopped. You have to be blind. As for the second leg game, I don't fear Slavia, I fear refereeing."

  22. Excellent decision by other official in Zurich game. Did they show a yellow card to the wrong player at penalty or just miss a clear step on foot?

  23. I am sorry for the following rant but what happened today in my country in a game from First League is simply unacceptable! It took VAR 10 minutes (!!!) to check if it was offside or not after a goal!
I know we are at the start, it is the first season and there are things to fix but this must be a record. 10 minutes! Vassaras must be fuming right now. I do not know yet if there were technical problems or not but you can`t delay a game for 10 minutes like that. On the bright side, at least the AR correctly saw offside :))

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_GSq0aCGZY
Starting from 3:20 in the video above

    VAR was Ovidiu Hategan
AVAR was No-FIFA AR Adrian Vornicu
